Gracie had everything planned when it came to her future. She was set to go to California with her scholarship-jock boyfriend, attend college, get a degree, and maybe sometime later when they were older and successful, they would get married and start a family. But all of that was taken away by the passion of one careless night. A night that changed everything.
After days of sickness it becomes apparent that she’s pregnant, and the choices she must make now will change her life forever. Her senior year will not be filled with making stupid mistakes such as, getting drunk at parties, or worrying about school events. But whether her doctor’s appointment is next week or how to eat and sleep for her baby’s well-being.
This story tells of the experiences an expectant teenage mother goes through as a part of her is shaped by the news of her pregnancy and how true love is not just words but actually being there for that person when they’re most in need, despite the circumstances.

"But even though the choices we make can have an impact and consequences, it doesn't mean it has to be a bad thing. Sometimes the choices we make can be the best thing that ever happened to us. They can be worth every tear, every laugh, and every smile because when it's all said and done it's the ones that make life worth living that really matter."
THE STORY
17 year old Gracie made a bad choice in the heat of the moment. Unprotected sex with her high school quarterback boyfriend Nick.
Nick has a football scholarship for college and the plan was that Gracie was going with him to start their life.
Until she tells Nick about pregnancy.
Grace has made the choice not to have an abortion.
Nick makes the choice to walk away.
From Grace and the baby.
Gracie has made the choice to finish high school, after all this is her senior year. She should be preparing for parties, prom and college. Not becoming a single mother. But she is determined to do this.
Gracie is scared but has a great supporting cast of friends and family.
Her best friends Meg and Mason is everything she could want.
Her parents (having had her in high school as well) support her decision 100% and her younger brother Tyler thinks she walks on water.
School is already hard enough as a teenager without being pregnant to the quarterback. She is constantly tired and emotional and rumors and whispers get to her. One specific cheerleader is just a bitch!
It gets too much for Grace and she ends up crying at her locker one day. While crying she hears someone ask if she is OK. She looks up and meets/starts chatting to Carter Jenkins, the principals son. Instant attraction to the GQ Model looking Barista.
She then makes the choice to get a job to save a bit of cash before the baby comes. Of course she chooses to apply at the local coffee shop where the one and only Carter works.
Carter and Gracie start out as friends, but the more times they spend together they realize they want more.
Grace chooses not to tell Carter about the pregnancy just yet.She want him to like him for her. She also doesn't want to be rejected again.
As fate would have it Carter does find out after Gracie passes out at work and Carter comes to the rescue.
He is 100% cool with it. He wants Gracie, if she comes with a baby then so be it. That's his choice
He has made some bad choices in the past and is a reformed bad boy, but is trying to be a better person. He becomes Gracies rock.
They choose to get together and are happy until Nick shows up 5 months into the pregnancy.
He's made a mistake.
The wrong choice.
He wants Gracie back.
Can Gracie throw away what she has with Carter, to be a family with Nick?
What will her choice be?
MY HONEST OPINION
I really liked this. I managed to finish it one sitting.
How pretty is the cover?! It was love at first sight!
Gracie is beautiful. The whole book is written in her POV. So we get all the ups and downs of the pregnancy, the abandonment from Nick, the bullying at school, her innermost thoughts, the highs that come with Carter, and the comedic relief of her train of thought.
Meg - the best friend. She was awesome. Wouldn't hesitate to do anything for Grace and also the comedic relief when it was needed.
Carter- *sigh* the reformed bad boy. Who doesn't want of those? He really is an awesome guy!
Parents - AWESOME! Her Mum especially, having been through the same thing she is 100% there for Gracie and all her questions.
Nick- When he abandons Gracie. I hated him. then the more the book went on I still didn't like him but I did feel sorry for him.
I do need to advise that there is a secondary story going on this book that I do not want to spoil it. But lets just say when its dropped?
BOOM! I am assuming that more will be revealed in the next book?
Just found out from a REALLY reliable source *cough the author cough*
that the next book is from Nick's POV!
There was some errors in it but not enough to actually notice or to have an effect on your thoughts. For example an " at the start of a sentence etc. I know some people are picky about that and it makes them mad, but I thought it was fine. I just felt like I should point it out before people start talking smack because of it! lol
There is one sex scene in this. I know weird huh? book about Teen pregnancy and only one?! but I thought it was greatly done. Just enough to know what was going on but in no great detail. Good old fashioned Clean YA/NA whatever genre it is ha ha .. Ok so not so clean as Meg swears like a sailor.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed it. The writing style, the characters, the progression of it all. At some heartfelt confessions it was a little cheesy, but as a fan as cheese it worked for me!
it all wrapped up in a HEA that I was happy with but I am unsure where the next one will go as I know this is part one of a trilogy.... Just have to wait and see huh?
Annie -
WELL DONE on your second book!
One thing I didn't get though was... If Gracie was such a caffeine addict why didn't she drink coffee? LOL
“Do not be afraid. Look fear in the face and say, "fuck you" and move on.”
Gracie has to make a choice.
At 17, she got pregnant by her quarterback boyfriend Nick.
She told Nick but he bailed on her.
She was forced to make a decision that was supposed to be too early for her to make.
She decided to keep the baby.
Being a single mom was going to be hard and she was aware of that.
What she wasn’t expecting was meeting Carter. The older hot, sexy, totally drool-worthyand more mature guy who was there for Gracie when she needed it most.
Just when things were going well with Gracie and Carter, Nick turns up and confessed he wants Gracie back.
Aside from keeping the baby, Gracie will now have to make another choice.
Will she choose to Carter who has been with her when she needed it the most or will she choose to forgive Nick and try to be a happy family?
First off, I'd like to thank Annie for giving me the opportunity to review this book. I am sincerely thankful for the chance she has given me to read and review this.
I love books that deals with real issues. Choices is one of those books. It deals with teenage pregancy something that isn't really new to me because I experienced it first hand. It is a sensitive topic and I liked how Annie touched the subject without being too preachy.
It reminded my of Juno, one of my favorite film of all time but of course the outcome was very different.
I thought Gracie was a great character. I felt her struggles because I have been in her place. The only difference was that she had hot GQ model-like Carter and I didn't. I was totally jealous of that. Hahaha. I wish I had a Carter that would have backed me up when I went through something like that.
Okay back to Gracie! As I said, I understood what Gracie went through. At 17, she made a decision of keeping the baby and I would have give her kudos to that. A lot would opt to have it adopted or have it aborted. It's a sad reality now a days. But Gracie owned up to her mistake and faced the consequences. The popular kids bullied her because she got pregnant early but she didn't care.
She knew there were people who truly cared about her and she doesn't give a f*ck on what they said. Nick, however, was a different story.
Nick was an a**hole to my eyes immediately. I hated the fact that even though he loved Gracie, he couldn't be man enough to face his responsibilities. Man! I was so mad at him when he was talking to Gracie on the football field. I wanted to massacre him! I mean I understand he's scared because a lot was expected from him by his mother but his actions was totally not acceptable. This was exactly the same reason why my ex-boyfriend left me. He wasn't man enough to live up to his responsibilities. He was a coward. And seriously, I hope all guys like him rot in hell!
Let's stop talking about the a**hole and start talking about Mr.Right. Carter.
I seriously loved Carter immediately. He was the guy that should have been Nick. I mean he has his share of mistakes but he changed. He was the kind of person you could depend on. Maybe it was because he was a little older than Gracie and Nick but still he was the type of guy I'd take any day. And I just freakin' wish I was as lucky as Gracie to have someone like him.
Despite all the insults and the hurt Gracie had been through, she had all the support. She has her family, her friend Meg and Mason and of course Carter. At first, she was all mopey and sad but she grew up. She had to not only for herself but for her baby. She had to mature and make a decision not only for herself but also for her baby.
I really loved Gracie and Carter. It started with friendship and then bossomed into something else. It was a little too fast for me but then again we have two more books to find out what happens to Gracie and Carter and yeah yeah Nick too.
A round of applause for Annie's second book. I haven't read her first one but I'll try to get it when I can. It was a heartwarming story about a girl who made a choice and stuck to it and a guy who was willing to be the person she could lean on.
This book sounds like the typical teenage pregnancy story and for the most part it is, but there's also some other stories going on...stories about love and family and acceptance.
I was really impressed with Annie Brewer's ability of being able to totally immerse you in a pregnant seventeen year olds life. She brings you into Gracie's world where you feel you are right there with Gracie every step of the way.
There are a lot of great characters...and some not so great. Gracie has a wonderful best friend and great family that love and accept her unconditionally. I love all the different dynamics that they brought to the story. And did I mention Carter? He is amazing! The other not so great characters also added to the story but sometimes I felt we didn't get enough of their story. Nick is one in particular so I was happy to find out that his story is next.
I think I would've enjoyed this story a bit more if I wasn't so far removed from it...not just the pregnancy conflicts but all the high school drama. It doesn't help that there are some editing issues and things get a bit wordy. The strange part is I found myself getting use to it and enjoying Gracie's inner dialog.
I felt the story ended well but it definitely left me with questions. Like I mentioned, Nick's story is next, which I'm interested in as well as getting some answers.
Favorite quote:
♥ “But Gracie someday is here. Now. I’m not proposing to you or anything. I just want you to know, I’ve found the one for me…in you.”
I don't love much about this book, but I DO love that cover.. Very intriguing and eye-catching.
I admit the description for this book didn't exactly have me craving or wanting to read this book by any means, but after I enjoyed Annie's last book 'Back To You' I was curious as to how her writing has developed since releasing her debut novel.
Unfortunately I did not like this as much as 'Back To You' I found Gracie so very annoying and yes, pregnant women are generally very sensitive and emotional- especially being a teenager an all, but she cried at just about everything towards the end. It was emotionally draining keeping up with all of her emotional turns. The book also was very dragged out in my honest oppinion and like with the previous book there was no excitement to capture the readers full attention- it was a little boring. I thought her being pregnant and deciding to keep the baby would mature her, I felt like at the start her winy and bitchy attitude was acceptable and to be expected but after a little while I just wanted to grab her and whisper to her to grow the hell up, your pregnant, your about to be a mother so pull yourself together! For gods sake. Carter was an amazing guy, truly Gracie should have adopted his attitude he was cool, calm and collected. He chose to stand by Gracie when Nick walked. He was willing to be the good guy and take on someone else's responsibility himself. It would be easy at that age to walk away and find another 'chick' but he didn't care. He was a really good guy.
But overall this book seemed to be lacking something, it could have been a little more edgy. Everything seemed to staged. I mean her and Nick had been together for what 2-3 years? And then it's over and no one seems to care all that much. Carter seems a little too sculpted and perfect. Everyone has faults but he seemed to have no imperfections and that annoyed the hell out of me. He was also such a kiss-asser. He seemed to do everything Gracie told him to and not be so independent. I wanted to know 'Carter' not 'Gracie's Carter' if you get me.
I'm 17 and I think that should ultimately make me more suited to this book and relate better especially no since my friend of almost 5 years is pregnant.. At 17. But she is the most caring person ever and yeah she's a little more touchy feely and hugs me a lot more she's not judgemental, angry and bitchy at everything.
The writing could have been a lot more smoother and the book was too person centred. This wasn't the worse book I've read but the storyline could have been a little more exciting and the characters should have more personality. It seemed like everyone was defined by certain traits, Gracie was really judgemental with major attitude issues, Meg her best friend was a little eccentric and crazy, Nick was self-absorbed and Carter was perfect even though there's no such thing.
If you like a thrilling and an exciting plot line this isn't the book for you. There are no keep you on your toes moments or what's going to happen next. This is a slow story about a girls emotional turmoil through a big life event and her finding love with someone new. It's romantic but boring. I prefer a more exciting relationship with twists and unexpected surprises. Not a bad book by all means just not the best.
Choices is an appropriate title for this book. All the characters make them, whether good or bad, they have to live with the choices they make.
Gracie is a seventeen year old high school student. She is dating one of the most popular guys in school, Nick, and she has a uber awesome best friend named Meg. She has great parents and a cool little brother. Her life is pretty great. Until one day, in a Target bathroom, she finds out something that will change her life forever. She is pregnant. “I’m scared. This is going to change everything.” Gracie has a choice to make. She can keep the baby, abort it, or give it up. Ultimately she chooses to keep it. Her parents are upset at first, but they were teen parents as well and they are very supportive. She has Meg to lean on, and her other friend Mason. But now she has to tell Nick.
Nick has a football scholarship and he and Gracie were planning on going to Cali together so he could play, live out his dream, be with her. When he finds out Gracie is pregnant, he has a choice to make. He can support her and the baby, or he can walk way. He chooses to walk.
Gracie is upset, some of the girls at school make it worse. Things aren’t looking too great for her. Then she sees him. Carter Jenkins. Carter becomes a friend to Gracie. You can tell they are really into each other, but Gracie is hesitant to tell Carter about the pregnancy. She really likes him, and she is afraid he will also choose to walk away from her. She needs him in her life, even if it is just as a friend. Carter and Gracie go on a few dates, they are starting to fall for each other. Then Gracie passes out at work. Carter finds out about the pregnancy. He chooses to still be with her, even knowing about the baby, he doesn’t care. “Just know I am not going anywhere. I will never break your heart.”
Gracie is happy. Then Nick comes back into the picture... with a twist I didn’t see coming. Nick tells Gracie he made a mistake. He still loves her. He wants her back. Gracie is in love with Carter, but Nick is her baby’s father. The could be a family. Will she chose the her baby’s father who abandoned her from the beginning, or Carter, a man who loves her and has been there for her?
I really enjoyed this one! Gracie was great, and I absolutely adored Carter! So freaking lovable! Guys like that are rare! Gracie and Carter’s relationship was amazing! Meg- I think she is my kindred spirit! She is such a great friend, and funny as hell. Some of the things that came out of her mouth cracked me up! “He just better watch it. I am not dealing with his shit. Or I’ll bitch slap him into next week.” Meg and Carter definitely made this book for me!
A beautiful, emotional and sometimes funny story about growing up, love, life, and most importantly how the choices you make can influence the rest of your life. Looking forward to the rest of this series!!!
Even though the choices we can make have an impact and consequences, it doesn’t mean it has to be a bad thing. Sometimes the choices we make can be the best thing that ever happened to us. They can be worth every tear, every laugh, and every smile because when it’s all said and done it’s the ones that make life worth living that really matter.
Initial After thought after finishing the book - ONE WORD - WOOOOOOOW!!!
What can I say to fully help you grasp the intensity and brilliancy in this book?
This is a story that I will remember for a very long time.
Grace, a senior in highschool gets pregnant with her star-football player boyfriend, Nick.
Long story short - Other than her best friends, she is left alone to face the music in high-school.
It is a beautiful, breath-taking, character building type of story that takes you first-hand into Grace's struggle with teen pregnancy and her journey in becoming a stronger woman...better yet, a mother.
Although I was never pregnant in highschool, I did get pregnant when I was 19. The author, Anne, is an amazing story-teller that touches on every emotion I ever felt when I was pregnant at a young age. The good, the bad and DEFINITELY the ugly!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
And if you still have any doubts of adding this to your TBR - There is a scrumptous man named Carter that will make any and all doubts vanish!
2.5 Stars! I really like the cover. The story is really good, its ment for a younger generation I think.. or someone who went/is going through teen pregnancy or some teen who is having sex at a young age.
RANT TIME BITCHES!!! I'm pretty pissed at the editor of this book whoever that is. There are spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, the dialogue part is badly edited. Its like the main chick is talking more just to drag shit out. & hell is she fucking immature. The dialogues by each and everyone is immature. Its like 15yr olds are talking. And the talking part, you don't know who's saying what because it goes like.. "somethingsomething" I giggled.. when the other person is talking so it confuses you who spoke what
What would you do if you were made to re-think your life's plan? If you had all these hopes and dreams that were suddenly crushed by the choices that led you to that moment when your whole life changed? What would you do and would you do it all over again? These are just some of the questions you find yourself asking when you read Choices.
First of all I would love to thank the author, my great friend Annie Brewer, for allowing me to BETA read for her. It's been a great journey and I am so honoured and thankful to be a part of it. When I heard about the idea of this book, I knew straight away that Annie was onto something. So many young girls are going through this very thing that Gracie, our protagonist, is going through. They are made to make this life altering decisions, at often times alone, and have to be 100% certain that they are doing the right thing for themselves and their unborn child. And this is what Gracie is faced with from the moment you read the first sentence. You know that what she had envisioned for her life just changed in that moment when she 'peed on a stick.'
I found Gracie to be so amazingly strong and determined, considering how much she had to deal with and the choices that she had to make. She was determined to follow her boyfriend Nick and plan their future together, but as soon as she told him that she was pregnant, he bailed (no surprises there). Running away and leaving her all on her own to deal with all the decisions is a real douche bag thing to do. I detested him for a time but then I felt sorry for him, only because he was scared to be honest, and who wouldn't blame him. Though that moment he left her on the field was his defining moment, which was Gracie's wake up call for sure.
Then, in walks in Carter. The older, more sexy and some what responsible guy, who is only there at the beginning as a friend for Gracie. Someone to listen to her and be there for her like no one else. Gracie, of course, has a wonderful support system around her, even though Nick bailed on her, she has her best friend and her parents and younger brother, so she is not lacking in people to lean on. But, Carter was someone different. And what was better, was that for the majority of the story he did not know that she was pregnant, and by then, he had already grown feelings for Gracie. She was scared of course, undecided on what to do, considering her heart would constantly pull her towards Carter, while her mind would be telling her to think only of her baby at that point. We forget that she is still a teenager and it's normal to want to be with someone, especially someone as amazing and wonderful as the reformed Bad Boy Carter. But, what is so beautiful about him, is that when he finally found out that Gracie was pregnant, he did not run. He was shocked, as you would be, but he did not falter, unlike Nick. Instead, he became more of a rock in her life…sigh!
What is even more astounding is that there is another story going on amongst Gracie's story, and I really don't want to reveal it, since you all have to read it yourself to find out but it has to do with Carter and Nick, and trust me, you will not want to miss finding out. The thought of being pregnant was not as complicated as the drama that Gracie finds herself in and I'm telling you all it's pretty juicy stuff.
Choices, is a simple story about a girl who was in love with a guy, who thought they had it all figured out, until one day their lives had changed forever. That said boy, bails on that said girl, who is left bewildered and scared and made to make choices that she didn't think she would make ever. In stumbles another guy who becomes the man that she needs and wants, plus another whole side of complications that are soap opera worthy LOL. I really enjoyed this story and I recommend that you all take the time to read it and find out for yourselves just how special it is.
"The real world is not that easy. We get hurt, we make mistakes, and we move on. We live and die, but we only have one life to live Gracie. One. So screw what I just said, I want you, and I'm not going anywhere."
Choices tells the story of Gracie, a seventeen year old girl with the world at her fingertips and the high school quarterback, Nick, on her arm. Her future is already mapped out- she'll follow Nick to California where he'll be playing college ball, they'll live together, finish school, and someday in the distant future they'll start a family. Unfortunately for Gracie, someday came a little bit sooner that she expected.
When Gracie breaks the news to Nick, he says he loves her but he leaves her anyway. Some love, right? So now she's alone, heartbroken, and pregnant. Until one day, left crying at her locker due to asshole Nick, older, smokin' hot Carter enters the picture, thus beginning down the path of friendship and then into love. I won't go into detail here so you can all enjoy it for yourselves. :)
Then, one day Nick decides he wants Gracie back. He comes by and finds Carter at the house. As it turns out, Carter has a past and Nick is part of it. Now Gracie has to decide what to do. Will she stay with the supportive man she now loves or will she go back to Nick in order to give her unborn child a complete family?
Choices was a fantastic story. I connected with the characters very easily. I felt Gracie's anger and pain towards Nick. I smiled with every interaction with Meg. She was such a kickass best friend! I loved the small side story with her and Mason. Carter warmed my heart with every interaction. He was so much more mature than his 20 years. Gracie's parents, brother, and Grammy were so supportive and caring. The family interactions felt so genuine, and it made me glad for Gracie that she and her unborn baby would have such a wonderful family to help care for them. Carter's family was the same way. They'd love Gracie's baby just as much as they would if it was Carter's, which is more than we can say for Nick's awful mother. Nick made me so angry throughout the whole book, but in the end I felt more pity for him than anything. I think he left before seeing the baby because he truly couldn't handle it. I'm so excited to read his story and see how he's been coping with Carter raising the child Nick, initially, didn't want.
Some stories about young love are pretty unbelievable and unrealistic. Or the couple has impossible feats to overcome and the world is against them. This story could have gone that route, but it didn't come even close. Annie Brewer did an amazing job making Gracie and Carter's journey to love a down-to-earth, relatable one. The whole relationship and it's progression was very genuine to me. They didn't dwell on issues when they came up, they dealt with them. While Gracie could sometimes be immature (she is only 17 afterall), for the most part she handled herself and her relationship with Carter very maturely. Overall, I really liked the book and would recommend it. I was so thrilled to find out that Annie's writing Nick's story and then finishing the series with Carter's.
Firstly I would like to thank the Author and good friend Annie for letting me review a arc of Choices, I was honoured.
Now back to the book from the start the books starts off with a Big Bang a big life changing bang for the main character Gracie. She gets some very unexpected news and it made me remember of my experience when I first got pregnant. All the questions that go through your head but with her it's very different as she is only a senior and 17. Yes she has a steady boyfriend but as soon as the news is broken what happens, you guessed it. So Gracie has to go through all this alone but not really alone she has Meg who I adored from the start she is the type of best friend everyone wants, and she also makes you laugh in tough situations , she also has her awesome parents.
Then in comes the gorgeous sweet Carter mmmmm lol. Who starts off as a great friend to Gracie but slowly turns into more but Gracie is scared of these feelings she has for Carter because of course she is having someone else's baby and Carter does not know yet. But when she finally tells him he does not run like Nick did. But as you know life isn't always this simple the past always comes back around.
This book is about Gracie's journey on this life altering choice she makes. It's a beautiful story and Annie really nails it on the head with all the pregnancy and everything that Gracie goes through the questions the feelings, it was like I was reliving my pregnancy again . I loved it. Annie Brewer is definitely a author to watch out for. I loved her previous book and I loved this one as well I know I will love anything she writes.
Yesterday I finished reading Annie Brewer's first novel 'Back To You' which was OK. After checking out her other work I found this. What made me go out and purchase this straight after was the fact that the heroin was about a 17 year old girl who has a surprise pregnancy. I can relate to this ten fold? How? Because 6 months ago I found out I was pregnant. I was with my boyfriend of 3 years- I first met him when I was only 14 and when I told him he walked out on me. Now I'm 18 and expecting a June birth. And trust me it scares the crap out of me. Gracie is a 17 year old who finds out she's pregnant and her boyfriend of 2-3 years walks. See the resemblance?
I can kinda guess what your thinking how come if I can relate to this storyline so much that I have only awarded this book 2 stars? Well because frankly I could stand Gracie and Carter was portrayed as her white knight- the perfect guy who promises to raise this baby as his own when in reality it's not as simple as that. When my boyfriend walked out on me I didn't just get over it and think well I'm better off without him. And not all pregnant teens are bitches who blame everything on their hormones.
Plus getting back to just the book the writing was boring and the story dragged out so much I struggled reading past chapter 7 to say the truth.
Not 1 character can I say that I truly liked and can nothing exciting happen in a book about teenage pregnancy?
I really liked this book. For me, it was relatable - I'm a product of a teen mom. So for me, reading about Gracie's experience made me wonder if that's what my mom had to go through. I couldn't fathom how hard it was, especially considering how hard it is for me as a mid life mom. (can I get an amen?!) I loved that Annie was able to take a real life event and write it in a way where you could really understand what it felt like for the characters, relate to them and watch as they developed. Admittedly, at times I was like ok, how lucky can this girl Gracie get? I mean real life wouldn't happen that way. But then I removed myself from real life and put myself back into the book world and got swept up into her idyllic family life, Carter (I totally fell head over heels for Carter.) I mean my god - can you say perfection? Friends like Meg & Mason, etc. But then there were also thought provoking points. Like, what do you do when your whole life plan has to change? What about when his doesn't? When parents interfere? Etc. That to me was when I saw how strong Gracie was. She fought and grew up through it all. I love that this is a series. What's to come in book 2? Whatever it is, count me in Annie.
Annie, told me this would be better than her last book. She's right. It is better. My girl's making progress! Woo! I love her. LOL
4.5 stars!
Okay, guys, first I want to start off with Gracie. She's...okay. I didn't love her and I didn't hate her. I could admire her for her strength though. She seemed to be really immature in the beginning and that really irritated me but by the end, I thought, "Wow. She really grew up." But she had to, right?
Nick. I did not care for him, but like Gracie, I do feel sorry for him. Is it bad that I wish him a HEA, too?
Meg. I LOVED THIS GIRL! I WANT A FREAKING FRIEND LIKE HER! SHE'S SO AWESOME! I found myself nodding along when she would say something or give advice, like, YES! DO THAT, GRACIE! LISTEN TO MEG! She's a wise girl and an amazing friend. Lucky Gracie.
Carter. This guy! This guy is just....UNREAL. That's all I can really say about him because he just leaves me speechless.
.........
Okay, Carter! Get off my brain!
........
Alright, moving on.
There was a lack of editing that could have made the book better if it had been done. It was just hard to figure out who was talking or what a misspelled word was suppose to be.
I liked the plot and how the story progressed. I felt like I was watching 16 & Pregnant, but with a smarter girl. LOL Everything that was happening was realistic.
When I finished last night at 2:30 am, I was like, I can't wait to see what happens next. I think the next book will be even better. :)
This was a fantastic story! I think any teenage girl can totally relate to this. Gracie is a 17 yr. old girl with a bright future and a carefree heart. Nick has been her long term boyfriend and she never would have thought that he would turn his back on her when she discovers that she is pregnant. Confused and hurt, she doesn't know what to do. As this is the case for so many young girls, I think that the author, (also my good friend) did a superb job with describing Gracie's emotional roller coaster ride that is her life. Meg, who is Gracie's bestfriend is such an awesome character! She is a fierce protector and her potty mouth is hilarious! She helps Gracie in the decision to keep her child. Then there's Carter. The young man who steps in and shows Gracie that chivalry is not dead. He is what dreams are made of! If the world were filled with Carter's, it would be a better place. Together, they discover true love and that life is all about the choices you make. This is my first review that I've ever written and I'm so happy to have the opportunity to do it for such a talented writer! Great job Annie Mae! May the writing gods always shine your way! I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE!
I must say that I started reading this book while it was in the making and I could not stop. The excitement you get from the "high school love" to the sexy, more sophisticated man will relate to almost every woman. And then there's the pregnancy that every mother can feed into. What i am trying to say is....I love Carter!! No wait, I mean...WOW!! Great job Rie!!

I imagine it’s always hard to write about a tough topic that requires the right emotions, the right details and even the right characters to make it as realistic as possible. Ms. Brewer handled this quite well, introducing teen pregnancy with all it’s horrors and challenges, yet having enough light moments to keep the story from getting overwhelming or insignificant. Choices was a fun and educating experience, one I easily got invested in right from the start.
Like I mentioned, in a story like this the plot plays a major role in developing the emotions and the characters. Here it was not an issue. Choices didn’t have an overly complicated plot, but it was detailed enough to keep the story interesting. Gracie is in her senior year and she never imagines it would pass with a baby on board. The pregnancy brings many changes into Gracie’s life and forces her to face harsh truths. It was a great story of overcoming. The addition of witty dialogue, sweet moments, heartbreaking moments and just enough swoon-scenes made the storyline very satisfying.
As great as the plot was, however, there were several aspects regarding the prose of the story that could have been better handled. First, the language was very classy. Now, that may seem as a good thing, but the book is concerned with teenagers and I just didn’t find their way of speaking very realistic. That doesn’t mean the characters had to talk slang, just more their age. The other issue I had was the descriptions. I really wished Ms. Brewer had gone a little further in showing readers the full depth of the emotions of a pregnant teen, rather than just telling them. The execution of the story would have been much more effective had she done that.
The thing I enjoyed most about this book was getting to know the characters. Gracie and Carter are both likeable characters, and very easy to understand. Although, Gracie still hasn’t quite grown on me. She does learn from her experiences and it’s easy to feel sympathy for her, but her major fault is in that she needs to learn to stand up for herself and not rely on others to fight her battles. Carter, on the other hand, is a favourite of mine. He was sweet, sexy and full of understanding. At times, I got the impression that even he was annoyed with Gracie for the same reasons I was. He was a solid character, and I really enjoyed him. Not to mention, their relationship was sweet as well. They complimented one another, and their acceptance for each other was very touching. The romance definitely had no faults and I enjoyed it very much.
The secondary characters were all great additions to the story. Nick is your typical jock, but I felt bad for him. I think his character could have been explored further, but I liked the few glimpses we got of him. We also have Meg and Mason. These two are great. I loved how they were always there for Gracie and how honest they were in confronting her as well. I really found their side relationship to be fun and I’m hoping they get their own book.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this. The book delivered on most of my expectations and now I am looking forward to reading the next installment! For a new author, you did a great job Annie!
I’m really not too sure how I felt about this book. :-/ I really enjoyed it at the beginning when Gracie initially finds out she is pregnant, but as the book went on, it got to be a little boring and draining, and I just wanted it to be finished.
Scared and alone after her boyfriend decides he wants to go to college rather than be a father, Gracie is a bit of a mess, suffering from morning sickness, and acting extremely emotional. I really liked this part of the book, it described Gracie’s pregnancy in some depth, and it gave you a real sense of how difficult it could be to go to school during the early stages of pregnancy.
I really didn’t like the character of Gracie, especially towards the end. I understand that being pregnant can make someone emotionally but it seemed that every. Single. Little. Thing made her cry, and it became a little emotionally draining for me to read it as I just couldn’t be bothered with it. Also she seemed to be constantly moaning about everything, your pregnant, accept it and get on with it! Another thing I couldn’t understand was her need to know what happened between Nick and Carters mum’s, although I can understand a little curiosity, when she says that she is having a baby and will not have this family separated, what the hell is she going on about? She barely knows either family, and she is apparently having nothing to do with nick, so it is really nothing to do with her.
I quite liked the character of Carter… Kind of… I think. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy, maybe a tiny bit damaged, but there was nothing startling or particularly special about him. He’s extremely accepting of Gracie’s pregnancy and wants to make a relationship work despite the fact it’s not his baby.
Being 17 and pregnant was never something Gracie Jordan planned on, but after seeing the positive pregnancy test, there's no denying it's how she'll spend her senior year. It might not be so bad, if she could only eat without puking, and maybe if her boyfriend Nick didn't abandon her to do it alone. But thankfully, Gracie has a fabulous support system in her parents and best friends Meg and Mason. And then one day Gracie meets Carter. Maybe she's even less alone then she thinks. And maybe not all guys just think of sex and football. I really liked this story. I felt like Gracie was a realistic portrayal of a teenage girl going through these things, and Carter was wonderful, and just flawed enough to not be unrealistically perfect. Gracie's parents were great, Mason was great, and Meg... We all need a Meg in our life. I really liked this. Here's the problem: Holy editing necessity Batman! Missing words, missing punctuation, incorrect words and punctuation. There were times I was seriously confused about who was talking, or what was going on. I had to go back and re-read paragraphs sometimes to sort it all out. The dialogue felt unnatural and stilted sometimes too. Well, more than sometimes, a lot. But I got used to that, and just rearranged it more naturally in my head as I went. The story also jumped ahead weirdly too sometimes. With only a small space between paragraphs, it's suddenly weeks later. That threw me for a loop a couple times. It's hard to get lost in the story when you are regularly coming across these kinds of issues. But if you can read through editing issues, then this really is a good book. I'd like to see an edited version come out. Either way, I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
I really enjoyed this book and I do love novels that cover teenage pregnancy. This is a beautiful, breath-taking story that takes you first-hand into Grace's struggle with teen pregnancy and the journey into this new phase of her life. You will definitely fall in love with Carter the reformed bad boy and together they discover true love and that life is all about the choices you make.
There were some big twists that I wasn't expecting and you hope that nothing would come in between Gracie and Carter, it made for some really tense moments and heartache.
What an interesting book this was....I thought about it for days later. I personally did not experience this type of life but know quite of few girls who did...I have a better understanding of what they must have been feeling!! I was upset with Nick, but totally understood his reaction and felt bad that it seemed a little too late when he realized his mistake. I look forward to his book. But I totally loved Carter and Gracie!!! Carter was a wonderful surprise!!! I also look forward to his book!! (I can only hope things go how I see it in my head!!)
Loveeed it I cried happy tears, sad tears I went through a roller coaster of emotions but it was sooo worth it. Very realistic story line I love Gracie she was such an awesome character and I love that Anne was able to capture the essence of a high school girl going through one of the toughest moments of her life. I laugh, beyond words amazing can't wait for book 2 I even love Nick and Carter was just swoon worthy ❤❤❤❤Definitely 5 stars book
I was really impressed with this novel, it was almost like I had the experience myself. There was never at an point in this novel where I felt that it was fake or unreal in any way. I felt bad for Nick and the choices he made however. I'm glad that this will be a trilogy. I can only assume it will continue on with Carter and Gracie, following them and the lives of their friends like this novel. Annie Brewer will be one to look out for in 2013!

Loved it! What a journey it was with Gracie. Beautifully written! I saw that #2 is from Nick's point of view, not sure if I really want to see his POV, I mean I get it he is just a kid and instead of stepping up, he ran away. I guess I just don't want to feel bad for his decision. I am however curious what Choices #3 will be about! Can't wait!!!
Woohoo!! 4.5 Solid Stars This book really took me by surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed every page. 17-year old Gracie faces some tough choices and it did take me out of my comfort zone a time or two. Gracie was such a cute heroine and although she had her emotional moments, it was such a joy to see she had steel backbone for the obstacles thrown her way.
It was one enjoyable read, but I must say that Gracie annoyed me some during the book. She had her parents, her friends, even Carter and some people are truly alone. And I am sucker for happy endings, so I really liked how the book finished.
And I loved Carter, we need more like him in the world ;d .
