They say you can choose your friends but not your relations, and this book is a case in point. The plot started off well and hooked me in, but as more and more characters appeared, the story became a bit confusing and disturbing. It would appear that after nine years on the run and in hiding, Barbara is starting to take strain and her common sense fails her. Her need for support and understanding sways her better judgment, even when her intuition warns her against putting her trust in her new friends. The writing style is good and although the book does come to a satisfactory conclusion, I was disturbed by this novel. I did purchase this book some years back but also received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.

At first I was a bit put off by the cover of this book and was in two minds to reading it. But surprisingly enough, I did like the story. The plot is good, interesting with a mix of romance, suspense, mystery, sex….and though it started off a bit slow , half-way through it became more interesting with a bit more action, which kept me busy trying to work out who the villain was.

The characters are well-developed….so many secrets they all seem to have. The sex scenes fit in with the story and you don’t have the two mc’s jumping each other all the time and for an erotic romance not that explicit. My favorite characters were definite Kyle and Barbara’s son.

A good read and I am definitely going to read more books written by this author.

Going by the title of this book I actually was wondering what I'd let myself in for. What I got was a book that was brilliant and had more twists and turns than a Celtic knot.

For the storyline, Barbara comes across at times as being rather naive and not at all like a woman who has been on the run for 10 years. But she does have a strength about her that I liked.

There are red herrings aplenty, knights in shining armour, twists, turns and love. All in all, a good story with some not so nice parts in it that are completely relevant to the story itself. I loved the last bit of information you are given in the epilogue which just confirmed my suspicions!

Recommended.

I'm glad it was free. It was just ok nothing extra to write about but how many double and triple crosses were there going to be by the bad guys. I mean, really? And the epilogue was about one of the other characters, Dani, instead of the H/h and the next book isn't even about her. Thanks but I think I'll pass on the rest of this series.

She has been on the run with her son for a long time.
Can this be the right time to make a stand?
With each new character added the suspense mounts and I could not stop reading

This is a thrilling suspenseful romance in which no one can be trusted. Sometimes I felt Barbara’s common sense left her namely when it came to other women. I received this book from eBook Discovery. I am voluntarily leaving this review. This is my honest review.

The title and cover don’t reflect this fast paced thriller where everyone has a secret and the lies pile up so fast you don’t know who to trust,

This book was completely different from the other romance suspense books I have read. It started out with the present then did flashbacks to the past so that you knew what leads up to the present. It is a very good and interesting read.
Barbara has been on the run from a man for a very long time. She is trying her best to raise her son while in hiding. Her one error was to do what any other Good Samaritan would to, help others. By her helping someone else, it got reported in a newspaper and the man found out where she lives.
Barbara fell in love with a rich man who was not what she expected. The man, Hamilton, broke their engagement because his parents told him to. He did not know that she was pregnant nor did he know that the things his parents told him were lies. Russ, Hamilton’s friend, became Barbara’s savior when everything blew up in her face. The family lawyer, Decker, was the one who told her about the break up, while asking for everything that was given to her back.
When Barbara realizes how obsessed with her and her son he really is, she leaves. She has had restraining orders in every state she went to that he found her in., which lead her to her current situation. Decker and Russ both found her. Decker wants her because of Matthew, her son; Hamilton’s parents found out about him and want him. Russ because he thinks that Matthew is his son and wants them both backs.
After the newspaper report, Barbara made a new friend, Tammy. Tammy, to Barbara’s knowledge, worked in the same building as she did. They then became fast friends. Tammy even babysat Matthew for her. Matthew got a major crush on her.
Barbara also met a man named Kyle. He saved her pocketbook from getting stolen. Their relationship started out slow because Barbara was extremely cautious. She also told Kyle everything that happened to her. She wanted to be completely honest just incase he could not handle it.
Tammy was actually helping out Decker and Russ at the same time. Neither one of them knew about it. She just wanted a way to get rich quick and did not care whom she hurt to get what she wanted. Decker had hired Russ to find Barbara and anything else he could use to get what he wanted, which was Matthew. Russ just wanted what he thought was his family.
Barbara found out the truth about everyone, even who Kyle actually was. She forgave the people who needed to be forgiven. She also learned to give her heart out again and love.
There was soooooooo many twists and turns in this book that I could not stop reading it. There was always something new to learn about the characters. The way that the author kept you in suspense about what was going to happen next was extremely brilliant. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially to those who love little surprises throughout their books.

Barbara Jackson and her son Matthew have been on the run for years trying to stay away from a stalker. They are just beginning to feel safe when their picture is in the paper and they are exposed to Russ Latham. Matthew's grandparents, who didn't know about him have also found them, and they want Matthew.
Barbara Mancuso was a young aspiring actress when she met and fell in love with Howard Hamilton, heir to a huge fortune. They planned to marry but Howard's parents did not approve. Howard disappeared from her life with only the lawyers words that he had gone to Europe with his mother and dissolving the engagement. Russ was a childhood friend of Howards whose father was the gardener. He befriended Barbara especially when she found out she was pregnant. He moved in with her and then went psycho trying to own her, finally beating her up and causing her to go into labor. She got away from him and was in hiding ever since. Howard had died in a car crash some years before caused by drinking.
She is befriended by Dani, a police woman whose sister had been attacked by a stalker, and by Kyle who seems too good to be true and wants to marry her, and Tammy who is gorgeous and very nice to Matthew.
Turns out Tammy is working for Russ and Decker, the lawyer, to get Barbara and Matthew. Kyle is really Hamilton Trent, another childhood friend who promised Howard when he died to take care of Barbara. Russ had made pictures of Barbara with other men to get Howard to leave her. Trent wanted to make sure Barbara was for real and he did really fall in love with her. Russ gets beaten to death but not before he writes down about his father really being Howards father. Barbara has the proof so she can keep the Hamiltons away from Matthew. Trent is rich so she can live happily ever after. Tammy gets killed and Dani turns out to be the avenging angel who killed Russ.
Not bad, not great.

Safe with her little boy, in a new city, with a new name. Safe from the abusive man they had escaped and from the wealthy family with the power to take her child. Then a savage twist of fate exposes her location. And now those wanting to see her suffer and steal her child are coming, with every trick of the law and every weapon of terror. Determined to stand her ground, Barbara is swept off her feet by a handsome stranger who saves her from a mugger. The timing couldn't be worse for falling in love, but Kyle Trent is simply too perfect to push away, and she desperately needs someone in her life who makes her feel desirable again. As the nightmares of Barbara's past converge with the burning passion in the present, new secrets arise

Amazing, twisted, thrilling, suspenseful, romantic story! I loved this book...it was hard to put down. You couldn't help being drawn into Barbara and her son, Matt's life. She has a stalker that has terrified her for all of her son's life. She was vulnerable when pregnant and alone, and Russ befriended her, and she unfortunately trusted the wrong man. Ever since, it's been a nightmare of moving constantly, and looking over her shoulder. The crazy man finds her everywhere she goes, but even the police can't seem to keep him away. It makes for a thrilling, on-edge ride as you go through the story. It's very hard to know who to trust. I highly recommend it, and I can't wait to read more by this author, Marilyn Campbell.

Fine--if you like fluff. The cover said, "A mother's terror-filled flight in a heart-stopping thriller." I can report that my heart is fine, but I feel that it was misrepresented. I suppose that I could have chucked it into a pile for a book sale, or used it as firewood--still can. Barbara Johnson is both smart and gullible--apparently never heard that "of it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't." She and her 9 year old son have fled pursuers for years. Even getting pregnant years before was a stupid move on her part. If you like romances, you might love this one.

More like 3.5.
This was interesting. Some things happened that I expected, some things not so much. aBarbara was on the run for years and her trouble started when she fell in love with a super wealthy guy. Despite that, we dont really see a lot of action until the halfway mark, but I was captivated.

This book was better than I expected and yet not. The first half of the book was tedious; not uninteresting, but slow and at times confusing. The rest of the book was great. Barbara's son was probably my favorite character.

Great read!

Never a dull moment. This story has more twist and turns than a rollercoaster. I enjoyed going though this journey with characters.
