Sandy Curtis lives on Queensland’s Central Coast, not far from the beach where she loves to walk and mull over the intricate plots in her novels. Her husband says he doesn’t know how she keeps it all in her head, and her friends think she must be far more devious than she appears.

Actually, after having dealt with the chaos involved in rearing three children, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and a kookaburra (teaching it to fly was murder), creating complex characters, fast-paced action and edge-of-your-seat suspense is a breeze for Sandy.

At fourteen she wrote a story about a pickpocket who steals a wallet from an off-duty cop. To make sure her details were authentic, she wrote to Police Headquarters asking them about fingerprints. Her mother received a phone call wanting confirmation the query was genuine, and as Sandy hadn’t told her about the letter (or the story), she nearly had a heart attack thinking her daughter was in trouble with the law.

Sandy’s query resulted in an invitation to tour Police Headquarters with her teacher and several schoolfriends and meet the Police Commissioner. That’s when she learned that although the pen might be mightier than the sword, it does nothing to imbue self-confidence in an extremely nervous fourteen-year-old who had to shake the hand of Queensland’s top cop.

“All my pocket money and birthday money went on purchasing books,” Sandy says. “I devoured them. My aunt and uncle used to let me borrow their Saturday Evening Post (American version) and Reader’s Digest. In one Saturday Evening Post I read a story called “The Answer” by Philip Wylie, about a nuclear explosion which kills an angel and the Defence Force’s efforts to prove it was ‘really an alien being’. I was so impressed with the story I decided that one day I would become a story-teller like Philip Wylie.”

Interviewers often ask Sandy to describe her normal writing day. “Normal is when the chaos in my life subsides to frantic rather than frenzied. I once told a friend that I must have a chaos attractor glued on my forehead and she said that creativity hovers on the edge of chaos, to which I replied that I’d long ago fallen off the edge into the middle.”

Her various occupations, from private secretary to assistant to a Bore Licensing Inspector, as well as hitch-hiking around New Zealand and learning to parachute, have given Sandy lots of people and research skills. It’s the paperwork going feral in her office she has trouble with.

Until Death by Aussie author, Sandy Curtis is a fast-paced thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. This book held my interest right from the start and I must admit I was most intrigued over who the white-haired man was and had me guessing right to the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. Sandy is one talented author who knows how to keep her readers entertained. Highly recommended.

Patrick, Rashod and Marty followed their guide through the forest, guns at the ready. When the explosion ripped the air, they quietly and carefully made their way to the site. What they found caused Rashod to round on their guide in fury; the bodies were shredded, death was instantaneous. But a faint cry could be heard in the distance – what Rashod did next caused an intense feeling of hatred, of utter horror in Marty….

Fourteen years later Libby Daniels had returned to Sydney from the States for her father’s funeral. She inherited his business, his home and a vineyard in the Hunter Valley. But she was uncertain on the workings of the business so accepted help from her father’s trusted employees. Wesley Scanlan was one such person, and he attached himself to her like a limpet. Libby didn’t feel anything for Wesley other than friendship – but he wanted more.

Libby’s mother, Vanessa arrived from the States to take up residence with her daughter as well. Her parents had been divorced, and Libby also had issues with her mother. But she loved her all the same…. But when she woke feeling like she had the worst hangover ever, then spotted her mother’s body at the bottom of the stairs, with two men leaning over her, she was stunned. Worse was to come though, when she overheard words which threw her world into a nightmare of chaos and terror…

When Libby arrived at her grandfather’s house to take refuge, a stranger opened the door. Conor Martin hadn’t seen this girl before, but the condition she was in, bloodied, dazed and terrified, meant he couldn’t turn her away. Suddenly their lives were in great danger, as well as the lives of other innocent victims. What would happen to Libby and Conor?

I absolutely loved this book! I found it so hard to put down – the pace was intense and gripping right until the very end, with many plot twists along the way. A brilliant thriller, one I have no hesitation in recommending highly.

Couldn't put it down! A fast-paced thriller which had me captivated. I did guess the identity of the "white haired man", but that didn't deter from the overall thrill of the book. Would love to know how this whole scenario would have been explained to the police LOL

Two intriguing stories collide.

Libby Daniels runs after overhearing the men standing over her mother's dead body, she'd killed her? Confused, she flees to Brisbane in search of her grandfather.
Conor Martin answers his front door after watching Libby's approach through his extensive security cameras. Despite his reservations, he can't help but need to help her.

Both have men gunning for them. There's a lot of characters introduced early on and things did get a little confusing. Fast paced and action packed this will intrigue right to the end.

Libby Daniels wakes from a drug-induced sleep to find two men bending over her mother’s slain body. When she overhears that she is suspected of killing her mother, she flees to the only safe haven she knows: the home of her long-deceased grandfather. Disoriented, she arrives at the house, now occupied by Connor Martin, a man with secrets of his own, which, if revealed, could prove deadly for them both. Together they set out to discover the truth about what really happened the night Libby woke to her nightmare. Sandy Curtis is a master of combining crime and romance. Her writing is crisp, clear and pacy. The story will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last. Looking forward to reading many more by this author.

The story is a little confusing at the beginning but, it comes together pretty quick and had me frantically turning the pages to see what happens next. I was at the edge of my seat until the very last page. The white haired man throughout the story kept me guessing his identity, I kind of had him picked but still I wasn't quite sure until it was revealed at the end. Kudos to Ms Curtis for a brilliant mysterious thriller.

I'd read a Sandy Curtis thriller quite a while back and loved it. Hard to believe it took me a few years to read another one. I certainly won't let that happen again. She's a master of the romantic suspense genre. Do yourself a favour and read this book. Highly recommended.
