A spoof on the legendary fables of Aesop, these modern versions feature such characters as the cockroach and the dog, the pigeon and the salami, and a herd of sheep waiting for an unreliable wolf
This book is a collection of modified Aesop fables. The book covers many of the traditional Aesop fables, but retold with new characters and references to modern technology and culture. I chose this book because I think the delivery of the fables is creative and would be exciting to students. It also demonstrates that the character lessons behind all the fables can be translated across time and cultures. This book could be used as a foundation for character education, and for creative writing in older students. For example, students could take their favorite fable, and then rewrite it with their own experiences and ideas, while maintaining the moral of the story. The book could also be used to teach parts of stories, since there are several within the book.
This is an excellent book to have in a fairy tale text set. It uses the qualities of fairy tale in a modern way that will pull kids into the story. When has Aesop ever used a salami and a chicken leg as his characters! I also loved the explanation and connection the author made in the begiining of the book helping kids to understand the origins of the classic stories.
this is a fairly silly book. I think kids can still learn about fables through these unorthodox versions of the tales. Sometimes the text is over the pictures which makes it hard to read.
