Three djinn warriors. One power-hungry sorceress. The battle for good and evil has taken a whole new turn...

From New York Times Bestselling Author Elisabeth Naughton, the second story in a series about brotherhood, survival and unexpected love in a world filled with magic and betrayal.

Hope is a dangerous thing...

Enslaved by his enemies and forced to fight in the pits of Jahannam for their depraved entertainment, Nasir, the once-proud Marid warrior and djinn prince, has become a killer. One celebrated and feared at the same time. Even he doesn’t remember who he used to be, nor does he care, until hope enters his cell in the form of an alluring woman who may be the key to his salvation.

Sold into slavery, Kavin must prove her worth. If she can survive one night in the arms of a killer, her life will be one of luxury—albeit as a concubine, forced to serve her lascivious master. Sickened by the thought, she knows it’s better than death, and where she once dreamed of freedom, now all she wants is to stay alive. But when the gladiator refuses to touch her, her only hope for survival is seduction.

Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—award winning author Elisabeth Naughton taught middle school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Elisabeth now writes full-time.

Though primarily known for her romantic suspense work, Elisabeth has penned over thirty books and continues to write in multiple genres, including paranormal romance and contemporary romance. Her books have been translated into numerous languages and have earned several award nominations, including three prestigious RITA® nominations from Romance Writers of America. In 2017, REPRESSED, the first book in her Deadly Secrets series, won the RITA® for best romantic suspense.

Elisabeth's work has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as being filled with "deadly intrigue, high adrenaline action, and scorchingly hot passion.” Kirkus calls her "a writer talented enough at weaving a yarn to get her readers ensnared in it.” When not dreaming up new stories, Elisabeth can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home, wrangling two cats, or chasing after one very rambunctious Dalmatian.

I enjoyed this one much better than the first in the series. The only thing that really bothered me about this one was the ending was very abrupt. I wanted to see Nasir and Kavin reunite with Nasir's family.

This one wasn't all about the sex and had a sweet love story.

The second installment for this series is leaps and bounds better than book one while having a much more brutal backdrop. This time around we find middle brother Nasir has also been ensnared, marked with a firebrand opal and placed as a gladiator for the Gaul arenas. Zyad, the highborn Lord of the area has sadistically decided that Nasir will deflower/rape with his newest harem entry, Kavin within a certain timeframe. This forced mating is so that Kavin will learn that no matter what her highborn master puts her through it will be better than being taken by a gladiator slave even a champion such as Nasir. During this timeframe glimpses of just how depraved Zyad can be while Kavin & Nasir circle each other as they thwart Zyad's plan, make discoveries about each other and try to find a way out of this hopeless situation.
This read was very much like the typical 2nd installment where you're familiar enough with the characters that the information flows freely and the characters are more polished and developed. It's a perfect lazy afternoon read.

Wow, I was entranced from the beginning. This is the first book I've liked by this author. The world ms. Naughton creates is just something so dystopian and realistic that I couldn't tear my eyes away from this book. You felt for Kavin and the irrihensible way she was treated. Nasir was such a bad boy with a huge heart...and don't all of us girls just LOVE that. Haha. The political undertones in this was captivating, add in the dystopian setting and you've got yourself a wonderful novel. I really did love how both the heroine and hero started off with a very rocky if not vile start. But then certain things happened and you have a magnetic and dynamic couple. I'll be looking for the third book which will hopefully have Malik and Hana as the couple..great secondary characters in this book!

This novella is a quick, Sunday evening read. High fantasy fare that takes you to a gladiator-like arena, where one kills to survive, to meet a prince turned killer, who is confronted by the archaic tradition of the Ghul in which a virgin are "deflowered"/raped by these gladiator-killers before being taken by highborns as concubines. This is to teach them a lesson that no matter what horrors they experience with the highborns, things could be worse. Gruesome. And in this context our fallen hero, imprisoned and forced to fight to survive, meets our virgin who is tethered to terrifying sociopathic highborn. They not only save each others lives, but also each others souls and spirit. LIke I said, a perfect Sunday evening read.

Another great addition to the series. I liked how we were able to get a view of the djinn realm in this book. The first one took place in the human realm, so it was interesting to see how the djinn realm lived. The story line was exciting and the romance was a sweet build.

SLAVE TO PASSION (Firebrand Series#2) by Elisabeth Naughton

SLAVE TO PASSION is the second storyline (August 2012 release) in Elisabeth Naughton's Firebrand series. As one of three brothers entrapped by a sorceress, Nasir found himself imprisoned as a slave doomed to fight in the arena for the pleasure of the highborn. With his magic all but stripped, there was little hope of escape. But the day a frightened young female was thrown into his cell, he knew the stakes had changed.

Kavan's parents had sold her to Zayd as a slave. Hoping to save their youngest daughter, Kavan was now forced to learn the ways of a concubine. But first she had to pass a test, and to her horror, the test involved one of the arena gladiators-a marked slave: a monster. But left alone with the injured man, she soon realized that he was no monster, but a human being who had had his freedom destroyed just like hers.

Throughout the years, Nasir had always blamed the death of his beloved Talah on his inability to protect her, but he would not let another female suffer at his hands. Refusing to participate in Zayd's tests would hopefully protect the woman who had been forced into his cell for sex. But it would be a frightened Kavan who told Nasir, that if she didn't 'pass the test' the punishment would be worse until it ended in her death.

The relationship between Kavan and Nasir is one of mutual respect and fear. Nasir fears for the safety of the woman with whom he is falling in love and Kavan fears that Nasir is the only man for her, knowing she will be sentenced to a life as a concubine to an evil and cruel man.

We meet Malik-Nasir's trainer who pushes Nasir even when the man is incapable of fighting and protecting himself. But Malik is overly protective of Kavan which leaves many unanswered questions in Nasir's mind. It is only when he recognizes the patterns of behavior known by his own countrymen, does Nasir have any hope that there may be a possibility of protecting Kavan once he was gone.

SLAVE TO PASSION is another wonderful addition to Elisabeth Naughton's Firebrand series of novellas. Elisabeth draws the reader into the storyline from the start. The pain and suffering of the characters is palpable and our heart goes out to men who must endure at the hands of torture and death.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 *
Romance Rating: 4 out of 5 <3

It is unnerving to have such a gentle character turn into a cold-hearted gladiator. It always makes me sad, knowing that who they have become is not who they really are. Nasir took such a dark turn this book, after being sent to a gladiator-type place as a punishment to his brother, Tariq. He always seemed to exude strength and determination, but after being trapped in the hell like he was, I guess it is understandable. Either change or die.

And Kavin’s treatment throughout most of the book made me want to reach into my Kindle and pull her out. How anyone could live such a life is beyond me. She was a timid character, never having known love or care from the beginning. She was soft-hearted and caring, but her position in her life didn’t allow for that. She quickly learned she had to toughen up, or be broken. And being broken for the monster that owned her was simply not an option.

I think the aspect of this book I enjoyed most was how Nasir’s prejudices against Kavin’s race, and Kavin’s prejudices against Nasir, slowly changed. In the beginning Nasir wanted to wipe out every single Ghul in existence. Whereas Kavin was terrified of Nasir and thought him disgusting and disfigured. To have two very negative and strong opinions about the other is very different from the typical ’this-is-the-first-time-I’m-seeing-you-and-you’re-hot’ thing we usually get. It was interesting to see how their opinions of each other changed over time. From open hostility to sacrificing oneself, and downright terror to pure open love.

Unlike the first book, this one is quite simply about a beautiful and pure love. There was nothing hot or inflaming about this one. Instead, we got a much softer tone. It was like feeling around blindly and discovering that although things do go according to plan, things always have a reason for happening. It was a sweet story with a wondrous love.

"Slave to Passion" by Elisabeth Naughton. Book 2 in the Firebrand Trilogy.

I really enjoyed this second installment of the Firebrand Trilogy novellas.

Nasir has been forced to fight in a gladiator style arena for the cruelest of his Djinn kind, the Ghuls. He has hated them all since they killed the love of his life. He is now a stone cold killer, killing not only to servive, but for revenge. Because Nasir has a plan to escape his prison and sow his vengence on all the Ghuls....until he meets Kavin.

Kavin is a virgin and has been sold by her parents to a highborn Ghul as a sex slave or jarriah, the polite term for concubine. Before she receives her master's mark on her arm, she must pass her "test". Which means she will be given to the most vile, most monsterous, most evil gladiator to lose her virginity in the most cruel way possible. This "test" is to teach her that whatever her master chooses to do to her, it won't ever be as bad as the first time. She has heard talk of Nasir and his cruelty in the arena so when Kavin is thrown in a prison cell with Nasir and he doesn't touch her, she is confused (and releaved).

As the plot continues, the chemistry between Kavin and Nasir is very well written. And the overall story arc of "who are the 'real' monsters" is fabulous and very engaging. The plot moves along quite fast being a novella but slow enough that you don't feel like it's being rushed.

Can't wait to read the last installment!

Synopsis: "Kill them all…

Enslaved by his enemies and forced to fight in the pits of Jahannam for their depraved entertainment, Nasir, the once-proud Marid warrior and djinn prince, has become a killer. One celebrated and feared at the same time. Even he doesn’t remember who he used to be, nor does he care, until hope enters his cell in the form of an alluring woman who may be the key to his salvation.

This is not my life…

Sold into slavery, Kavin must prove her worth. If she can survive one night in the arms of a killer, her life will be one of luxury—albeit as a concubine, forced to serve her lascivious master. Sickened by the thought, she knows it’s better than death, and where she once dreamed of freedom, now all she wants is to stay alive. But when the gladiator refuses to touch her, her only hope for survival is seduction."

My Review: I really enjoyed this one, possibly even more than the first in the series. I liked that there was no clear leader in it and Nasir and Kavin worked together so beautifully. I did feel like Kavin was at times a little week but she ended up surprising me. I really love Malik and I desperately hope we can revisit him at some point. The storyline really moved along nicely and was so enjoyable I didn't want to stop reading (I did finish this one at work because I couldn't wait until I got home).

This is the second novella about the three princely brothers bound by a powerful sorceress. The hero in this one is forced to fight for survival and he is slowly losing his goodness but the voice of his dead love doesn't let him fall completely. The heroine is from the same tribe that has made the hero into a savage but she is not high born and has been sold by her parents as a sex slave. Her master has a test for her before he makes his concubine, the heroine is disgusted at the way he choice has been taken away from her, she is to be thrown in the pit for one night to make her appreciate her master. The hero tries to harm her but not rape her as she feared but the next day she is whipped for having failed and given five days to succeed or be beheaded. The book was filled with perverts and sexual deviants and people high on power who thought they could do everything. The romance moves very fast, the heroine takes care of the sick hero and they get to know each other, she gives him hope, for her he would try to fight and find a way out. At the end of the book though they escape the sorceress still has her hold.

Oh I liked this one much more than the first. This story gave us more information on the castes of the Djinn tribes and explained the differences.

Continuing from the first story, Nasir is still trapped by the sorceress and she'd sent him to the "pits". Think of where gladiators of old fought, make the "players" Djinn and add in more blood. These fights are to the death, and Nasir, as Marid Tribe, has fought his way to the top. This is not normal, as Marid are not fighters, they don't like it, but they do it. Nasir has fallen deep into the depths of his soul and he lives in the darkness. Barely remembering who and what he comes from, he returns to his cell to find a present. Kavin has been given as a concubine to the highborn Ghul and this is her test. To survive one night in the cell with a killer. She survives, much to the dismay of the Ghul. She's sent back for 5 days and if she doesn't come back from her test "completed" she'll be killed.

Kavin has her own plan. And Nasir is going to help her.

Story:
The djinn prince Nasir has been thrown in the pits of Jahannam, now nothing more than a slave, to fight for others entertainment. Then one day the slave girl Kavin is put in his cell. She must sleep with him, or die.

Cover:
This cover is a lot simpler than the first one in this series and stands out from the other coveres, but I still like it.

Review:
When I started to read this one I didn't really know what to expect, concidering that the first book was just amazing! But this one didn't let me down either. Elisabeth shows again that she's a great author.

she has done it again for me. i enjoyed this book, i finished it in 1 day. nasir was captured by zoraida (a sorceress) and thrown into jahannam, where he must battle to the death with other people that are slaves. it started to eat away at him until he meets kavin. her master put her in nasir's cell so she could pass 'a test'. but she got much more. can't wait until the next book and find out about what happens with the other brother.

*** Spoilers ***

This book was a little better than the first one.
I liked Kavin, the female lead, alot more than Mira from book one.
I also like Nasir, Tariq's brother better in this book. This book had more action and suspense as well.
What happened to Malik, did he die a slave?
What happened to the Pits of Jahannam? There was no follow-up and unanswered questions in this book.
