Jean-Michel La Grenouille has a lot going for him. He’s a prince. Handsome. Filthy rich. And definitely charming. But he also spent his first few years as a fly-catching, pond-dwelling frog. All that saved him was the kiss of The One, the girl who saw nobility through his slimy form and fell into True Love. Okay, fine. Technically she was a toddler who tried to eat him, but whatever. The curse broke, and as long as he finds and marries her by his 30th birthday, he’s a free man.
Trouble is, he’s going to be 30 in ten days, and he’s getting some seriously cold-blooded feet. He’s pretty sure Princess Sleeping Beauty is The One. But his best man has some villain issues, his in-laws-to-be belong in a really special castle, and a smoking-hot lady biker named Lollie Bliss has him rethinking all this happily-ever-after stuff. Oh, and he may have accidentally put out a hit on his blushing bride. Oopsie.

My Thoughts:
This book is the sequel to Curses! A F**ked-Up Fairy Tale . If you haven’t picked up the first one, you should. You can read my review of that one HERE.

In this installment, the main character is Jean-Michel (the Frog Prince). Jean-Michel was cursed into frogdom, and then saved by his “one true love”. Only, in this story – he has to not only be kissed by her – but WED to her. So the story follows Jean-Michel as he re-finds and plans to wed his Princess, before his birthday. (Thus, keeping him from returning to his former green self.)

What kind of story would this be if it were that EASY though, right? haha.

I loved the plot of this one, good ole RJ returns just long enough to turn this fairy tale on its head. There is action, mystery, and a shit ton of laughs.

Character wise, of course I loved them ALL. Beauty cracked me up, yes… Sleeping Beauty (yep- that one). Jean-Michel was such an arrogant ass. I loved to hate him, and hated to love him. haha.

In Conclusion:
I love this series. It is very entertaining and original. I know, original in a fairytale retelling? RIGHHHTTT… But, its true. This series is very fresh and I’ve not read anything like it. I can’t wait for the next book to come out (if there is one). If you enjoy laughing and rolling your eyes and then laughing some more, I say pick this up!

Mom Notes:

Humor can be a little raunchy, probably would recommend for those 13+.

Can we take a second to admire the cover of this book? This, along with reading the synopsis of this book is what brought me into the world of the Frog Prince from the perspective of J.A. Kazimer. The very idea that a cover like this will appeal to anyone (like to me) says that Ms. Kazimer either knows her audience or knows the type of audience she wants to appeal to and that, ladies and gentlemen, is the kind of author I can appreciate.

No one should be surprised with what happens in this book. I certainly was not. What I was surprised with, and pleasantly so, was to discover how complex the fairy tale world is in this story. I have a personal love for fairy tales, nursery rhymes and fables. I am a children's literature freak and I love it. I once wrote an essay explaining how Cinderella could have been interpreted into a story about Chinese foot binding. Yeah. This is sort of like that essay except with way more expletives.

Froggy Style takes two classic fairy tales, Sleeping Beauty and the Frog Prince and wraps them together in a tale of conceit, deceit, and tattoos. Jean-Michel La Grenouille (which means frog in French, go education) is the cursed Frog Prince who must find and marry his One before his thirtieth birthday or be fated to return to his froggy status permanently. His One just so happens to be none other than Sleeping Beauty herself who in this tale is portrayed as a bitchy, flannel-loving Princess (with a capital P) that loves to pull Jean-Michel's leg. Both froggy and human alike. Both of these characters are not as they seem, which was great to discover while reading. I'm not sure what I expected to get out of a book with two frogs going at in on the cover but I enjoyed every bit of this book. What could have a story that went horribly wrong was something that turned out to be extremely enjoyable. Now what does that say about me personally?

I got an ARC from the writer!

Goofy. I didn't know that J. could keep up the same tone as in the first book, but she did: two utterly ruthless, unloveable people fall in love, and you both buy it and like the characters. The mystery didn't confound me as it did in Book 1, but it might have been because I was waiting for the twist to come around this time :) Plus, we get to see the characters from the first book pop back in, and they're just as evil as ever. Happily ever after isn't just for the nice anymore. As fun as a Shrek movie but not for kids.

Fractured fairytale!

This novel was absolutely hysterical. Raunchy, funny and full of fairytale puns, this is a ride not to be missed. I really couldn't stop laughing. Especially at the clueless hero. The Brothers Grimm would never be this entertaining. This is a happily-ever-after for everyone.

A mash up of The Frog Prince and Sleeping Beauty. Understated funny. She manages to use a reference to every fairy tales and nursery rhyme I know of an maybe a few I haven't.

Take one froggy prince and a sleepy princess. Add in screwed up family members, a trashed fairy godmother, a matchmaking cockroach and an acrimonious yet strangely loyal manservant and you have the start to a really messed up story. Watch out Saturday Night Live, Ms. Kazimer may have you beat in the hilarious skit category.

First he was a frog and then he wasn’t, but if he doesn’t get his act in gear, he will be a frog again. Jean-Michel La Grenouille must find the woman that broke his froggy curse twenty-two years ago and he has only ten more days to accomplish it. His fairy godmother believes it is the stunning Sleeping Beauty. The prince has his doubt that the sleepy, flannel wearing woman is his One, but hey he needs to trust his wand welding granny.

At this point I usually write about the heroine in the story, but I can’t. There are more than one love interests in the story and they can be pretty much summed up in a few words…borderline psychotic, rude, whiney, with whips for tongues. They sometimes encompass one or ALL of those traits. When you think of princesses you think of loving, beauties with hearts of gold. Well in this convoluted fairy tale we visit the world of opposites. Oh how sweet it is!

I really can’t go off on the women of the story without pointing out that Jean-Michel, aka Kermit *insert snicker*, is not your normal handsome prince. He may be gorgeous, rich and at times charming, but all in all, to put it plain and simple, he is an asshat. He is egotistical, selfish, conceited and at times a complete idiot. Not your normal portrayal of a Disney type prince.

Kermit, needs to save Beauty. On a drunken night out with his ex-best buddy, it appears he may have put out a hit on his beloved. She is his last hope to remain human, so he sets out with his faithful manservant Karl, to find the hit man and to protect Beauty. Along the way he meets Lollie. She knocks him off out of his fancy Ferragamos. She is everything Beauty is not. She is awake…no wait, she is a lot like Beauty; vicious, gorgeous and a touch crazy. She’s perfect. Now all he has to do is fight his lustful feelings for Lollie, find the mysterious hit man, stop someone from killing him and then finally force himself down the aisle to marry his sleepy bride. Whew and all in less than 10 days. Easy-peasy!

First off I will say I loved the first in the series, Curses. Loved, loved, loved it! I only really, really, really liked Froggy Style. Ms. Kazimer’s humor was still amazing. She can write one line zingers like nobody’s business. Her writing is fast, quirky and is truly hilarious. How she can twist such long loved innocent fairy tales into this twisted perverse alternate universe, I will never know. So what happened to my love-fest you ask? I’m not really sure. I could be in a princess kind of mood, or I just didn’t click the whole 100% like last time. It’s more like 90%. I still had snort out loud moments, and the way she can tell a story is beautifully unique.

If you want a good hearty laugh, Froggy Style is for you. You cannot be easily offended though. No matter the sex, race, heritage, sexual orientation, height or even inability to grow hair; nothing is safe or sacred in the hands of Ms. Kazimer. She is brilliant in her ability to screw with everything and not take anything serious, except her ability to be seriously funny. This is a raunchy, light hearted, fun read. There is no meaning to life, heart pounding romance or insightful a-ha moments. I compared her to SNL skits above and I can’t say it enough. She would fit right in with that group and make everyone laugh. So, if you are uptight, staunchy, proper, snooty and just no fun to be around, you will not like this book. You have been warned! Otherwise, if you are like me, you’ll enjoy it for what it’s worth; a hysterical escape, with great adult humor and characters you are glad you don’t know in real life. They are downright scary at times!

OMG, Froggy Style was just as PHENOMENAL as the first book in the series Curses!. Jean-Michel La Grenouille a.k.a. Kermit is such a funny character. I can't tell you the amount of times I literally laughed out loud. Don't get me wrong Princess Sleeping Beauty Vaniteuse and Lollie Bliss have some very funny things to say as well. I don't know how J.A. does it. She turns old fairy tale favorites into one heck of a hysterical story. She is a comic genius when she puts paper to pen (or fingers to keyboard....lol).

Jean-Michel is called the Frog Prince. When he was younger her was cursed and turned into a frog. When he was eight years old a young girl came and quite by accident broke his curse. Or so we think until some odd years later we find out that his curse will rear it's ugly head again when he turns thirty unless he marries the same girl who broke his curse, the ONE who is destined to be his ONE. Like most ruggedly handsome prince's Jean-Michel has been spending his time romancing all the fair damsel's he can find and, is of course, reluctant to marry Beauty but self-preservation wins out and he will do it, if it keeps him from turning back into a frog.

Princess Beauty spends most of her days sleeping and when she is not she spends that time chasing away would be suitors. To her, Jean-Michel is one more unwanted proposal. At every turn she does anything and everything to try and dissuade him from going through with their marriage.

In between all that is going on enters Lollie Bliss a Tattoo Artist at The Rose. When Jean-Michel enters her tattoo parlor he finds she is everything that makes him salivate with wanting. He will do anything and everything just to have her in his bed but that prize is hard won. In the midst of his conquest of Lollie he needs her help in calling off the hit he put out on Beauty (quite by accident) during a drinking binge he had the night before with his old friend R.J. Stiltskin. As in all great stories nothing goes right for our handsome prince and his hot cohort (or is she....lol).

There is SO much more I want to say but I feel it would totally ruin the story for everyone. J.A. Kazimer, in my opinion, has another great hit on her hands. I am so looking forward to the next book in her F***ed-Up Series. On a scale from 1-10 I give Froggy Style A F***ed-Up Fairy Tale a GIGANTIC 20. It is off my scale but that is a testament to the high caliber of story telling that J.A. gives to her readers. If you are looking for an insanely funny story, mishaps, froggy puns, or just an all around great story then I urge you to pick up a copy Of Froggy Style A F***ed-Up Fairy Tale (F***ed-Up Fairytale Series Book #2) By J.A. Kazimer. Let Jean-Michel, Sleeping Beauty, and Miss Lollie Bliss take you on the best adventure that even Jean-Michel's money can't buy....lol. For those who haven't read the first book in the series Curses! A F***ed-Up Fairy Tale while you are out picking up book two you should also grab yourself a copy of book one. I hope you enjoy both these books as much as I do.

Jean-Michel is the Frog Prince. As a boy he was kissed by a young princess, and turned into a boy. If he doesn’t marry the same princess, his, ‘One,’ then he will turn back into a frog. His fairy godmother thinks she has found his One, in the form of Sleeping Beauty. Jean-Michel is afraid she is right, so marriage plans are made. Afterwards Jean finds himself waking up after a night of drinking with a strange tattoo and a vague idea something is very wrong.

Froggy Style is the second novel in the F***ed-Up Fairytale series. These aren’t the kind that you have to read back-to-back. In fact the two novels have very little to do with one another. These are quick humorous stories with odd kinds of mysteries. They take the fairy tales we know, turn them on its head. The series is crude, absurd (I mean them both in a good way) and surprisingly modern.

Jean-Michel wakes up from his drunken night, remembering nothing, only to discover that he may or may not have hired an assassin to take out his princess. The clues lead him around the city (Cin City) to discover what happened. If you are thinking this sounds like The Hangover, then you’re right. It has some similarities.

As a character, Jean-Michel is so arrogant that he can’t put the pieces of his mystery together. He is also kind of an idiot, but he is purposely written this way, or seems so, for comedy. When the reader meets Sleeping Beauty for the first time, we agree that he shouldn’t be excited over his future bride. Though as he follows his clues to discover who he might have hired to kill his future bride he meets a tattoo artist, who he assumes many things about. Jean also has a manservant who adds to the comedy.

I figured out what was behind the plot well before the central character. Despite that I still enjoyed it. The funny twists on familiar fairy tales, and even how the characters make little rhymes in their heads’ is truly enjoyable. Kazimer does a great job with this. The only thing about the novel that really didn’t impress me was how the story tied together at the end. It still left a couple unanswered questions that didn’t fully make sense.

As in so many fairy tales there is a romantic side of the story. Even the romance is more funny than romantic. Jean-Michel is telling the story, and at times he thinks like a teenager, which added to the story for me. It let me wondering if there will be a third, and if so what story will we get next?

Jean-Michel La Grenouile is not your average prince. Sure, he is handsome, charming, and very rich, but there is something that overshadows all of the that. He is the fabled Frog Prince—the victim of a curse that caused him to spend his first several years in a pond on a fly-only diet. The kiss of his One broke the curse when he was eight, but with a caveat: he has to find and marry her before his thirtieth birthday if he wants to remain the charming, handsome, rich human prince he has become. With ten days left, Jean-Michael has to convince Sleeping Beauty, the princess he is pretty sure is his One, that marrying him is a great idea. This proves a difficult task what with a drunken fairy godmother, a villainous best friend, a group of in-laws out to drive him crazy, and his introduction to Lollie Bliss—the one he finds himself truly drawn to. Oh, he also has to stop the assassin he may have hired to off his bride to be in a drunken bought with cold feet. Happily Ever After never looked so impossible.

Froggy Style is a fun and very twisted take on the traditional story of The Frog Prince. All the hallmarks of this and numerous other fairy tales are blended together to create a land where everything is a bit more jaded and a touch darker than the typical Disney fare. The story moves at a fast pace, and there are tons of little details that help bridge reality and the setting of Cin City.

While I enjoyed the story, there are a few issues that really kept me from losing myself in Froggy Style. Almost none of the characters are very likable. They were all great characterizations of their historical counterparts, but I had a hard time feeling for any of them. I think this also threw off the love story that developed. I did not necessarily believe the relationship or the growth Jean-Michel experiences.

While the Froggy Style moves quickly, there were several transitions that were awkward and would throw the pacing off. I felt as if I missed a page in several spots.

Despite these issues, Froggy Style is a fun read and I would love to return to the world to see how some of my favorite fairy tales are twisted.

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Prince Jean-Michel Grenouille spent the first eight years of his life as a frog until the day a slobbery four-year-old princess came along to his pond and tried to eat him. It wasn’t exactly a kiss, but it worked to turn him back into a boy. Fast forward to a few weeks before his 30th birthday and he must marry his One or turn back into a frog. Forever. His drunken fairy godmother insists that Beauty is his One even with her sleeping problem and nasty attitude, so the wedding is planned. But when Jean-Michel goes out with his cousin RJ for his bachelor party he accidentally, while quite drunk, hires a hit man to kill Beauty. Oops. He may not want to wed the slobbery sleepy Beauty, but he doesn’t want to be a frog for the rest of his life either. Now, he must stop a hit man and resist the beautiful Lollie Bliss he meets while searching for said hit man. If Beauty is supposed to be his One then why does he feel as if Lollie is the one he should marry? Poor Jean-Michel. He’s got some serious problems including his tendency to croak at the most inopportune time and his extreme dislike of the color green. Is he doomed to a lily pad forever or will he get things sorted out? Curses are such inconvenient things.

Book 2 in the F***ed Up Fairy Tale series is definitely not for reading to the children. This fairy tale retelling is funny and entertaining, but I didn’t find it quite as good as the first one. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a wild ride with laugh out loud moments and total creativeness regarding the fairy tale rewriting, but there was something missing and I tend to think it was the whole assassin thing that seemed off. It didn’t make a lot of sense, but then when do drunken actions make sense? Anyway, I did enjoy myself and look forward to Book 3, so if you want an afternoon of light-hearted entertainment then I suggest picking this one up.

A got an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of Book two in j.a. kazimer's 'F***ed-Up Fairy Tale' Series, and polished it off in about a week.

Where book one Followed R.J. (AKA Rumple Siltskin), a former professional villain, temporarily on leave due to a curse that forces him to act in a less than Villainous manner, book 2 follows the Frog Prince. Yes, THE Frog Prince. If anything this prince is less noble than R.J., his former best friend (their relationship hit a rough patch with the Frog Prince slept with R.J.'s first wife).

Cursed, as a baby, into the shape of a frog, the prince was rescued when a young princess kissed him. But that was over two decads ago now, and after twenty some-odd years of sleeping with every princess who glanced his way, our not-so-noble hero has just found out that if he doesn't marry the girl who broke his curse, he'll be transformed BACK into a frog. This time, forever.

While a few of the fairy-tale puns can get a little old after a while, the story is, as a whole, a fun read, and lot of laughs, though it definitely isn't suitable for children.

For the record, yes, you are seeing that correctly... There are two frogs doing the deed on the cover of this book... Take a moment... Just think about that... *shudder*

I wish I could say that the book gets better from there.... but I struggle with that. Jean-Michel is the Frog Prince. Cursed to remain a frog until The One frees him, he is finally released as an 8 year old boy by a 4 year old princess. But unlike the the classic version, it wasn't really a kiss that freed him. In this case, Violet, also known as Sleeping Beauty, tried to eat him. But the touch of her lips worked and the curse was lifted. Or at least Jean-Michel thought it was. Until his 30th birthday approached and the playboy discovers he has to FIND that princess and marry her or he will turn back to a frog forever.

Terribly disappointed :/ The premise is great: Frog Prince lives his first 8 years as a frog, then gets kissed by "The One" turning him human. By the time he is 30 he must find get again and wed her else turn back amphibian. How this story is being fleshed out is driving me crazy. The writing: continually describing how hot the characters are and repeatedly using the same descriptive words and phrases. The characters: zero meat to them, I don't care a thing about a single one. The plot: what the author seems to think of as humor is very shallow, and there are minimal twists or build up. Setting: lack of description. I guess all of the descriptive energy was wasted on the characters. The story did start to move along right around the halfway point, but not enough to save it.

I loved the book so much that I couldn't keep it to myself. I eventually gave my copy to my cousin who enjoyed it as much as I did. The book had mystery, romance, and a lot of cheeky humor. Totally entertaining. I will have to buy another copy when I'm ready to reread this story. I hope the author will be creating more of these humorous adult versions of classic fairy tales characters. A good laugh is always welcomed.

The Hangover 2 of "Curses"- same general story but in a different setting, had some funny moments, but was entirely too long.
Favorite Quote: “What do you even know about this girl, Johnny? Other than she’s mentally unstable.”
My eyes narrowed. “Why do you say that?”
“She had sex with you, dear boy.” Elly shook her head and snorted. “The girl obviously has issues”

Fairy tales. I love my fairy tales and Froggy Style by J.A. Kazimer is a retelling I happen to like. I'm on a roll with picking books I like! The cover makes me laugh. The subtitle reads "A F***ed-Up Fairy Tale", and that's what it is. This is definitely a more adult...

Eh, this was ok. It didn't suck me in like curses did. I knew the twist around the 45% done mark and found myself reading just to find out if I was right. The ending was a bit lack luster. Can't say I'd recommend this one the way I did the 1st.

thought it was cute at first, all the tie-ins and dropped references, then it got old, but yet I could not stop reading it....did end up liking the book and thinking it was a fun read. I bet it would have been even better as an audiobook though...going to look for others in the series as such.
