Step aside, Bert and Ernie, the new odd couple is here! Pug and Doug are best friends. They both love doughnuts, bird watching, and polka music. They are also very different. Doug has a big imagination. Pug…not so much. When a misunderstanding between the friends hurts Doug’s feelings, Pug must find a way to set things right. This charming and hilarious odd-couple friendship story is perfect for best buddies who usually, but don’t always, see eye-to-eye.
Little Friend's new favorite book, but the whole family enjoys it. I think there will be tears and protest when this one goes back to the library. The pictures are really cute, and I personally love that Pug & Doug are nerdy. I think it makes them all the more lovable. :)
Doug is artistic and pug is more down to earth. A misunderstanding leads Doug to think Pug doesn't like him any more. Pug tracks Doug down and explains and they become friends again. They promise to talk things out in the future to avoid misunderstandings. Doug sees a "fossil" and Pug says it's just a rock. But really...the illustration shows it is an entire dinosaur under the ground. Funny.
I placed this book on the realistic-ficition shelf because although it is about talking animals, I think the plot of the story is very realistic to humans. The best friend duo Pug and Doug do everything together until one day there is a very big misunderstanding of how each friend is feeling about the other. By the end of the story they decide that if they ever have this problem again, the best way to deal with it is to communicate with each other. After reading this I immediately thought it would be great for a guidance counselor to have in their classroom as a mentor text on friendship. Love this one!
In this adorable take on the ups and down of friendship Pug and Doug share their everyday adventures together. But one day when Doug thinks Pug is tired of being his friend he goes off on his own, lonely and sad. When Pug finds him and explains everything they are back to themselves, full of fun and imagination.
This cautionary tale about communication is lovely and lends itself to the ears of the young children who will read it. It's all to easy to lose a friend because of a misunderstanding and this tale takes a unique path to discuss it.
Best friends Pug and Doug love being together--they even have a secret pawshake! A misunderstanding makes Doug think that Pug is tired of him, so he goes off by himself. Pug wants to fix things, and finally finds Doug (with the help of a jetpack!) at a UFO convention. Kids just learning about friendship will relate to this fun and charming story. Reviewer #19
I usually don't care for friendship books because they're always cookie-cutter but this had some fun elements. I loved the non-fiction, instructive feel when they showed the secret handshake. Also, the last page has a fun surprise that has a nice connection to the beginning of the story.
Pug and Doug are friends. They're alike in some ways and different in others. Doug misinterprets some things he overhears and sees and Pug has to find a way to explain.
Some funny parts . . . what they're afraid of (vampires, mummies, Chinese crested dogs).
Good book about friendships and not jumping to conclusions.
Pug and Doug are best buddies until, through a series of misunderstandings and jumping to conclusions, Doug begins to believe that Pug doesn't want to be friends. Pug makes everything better with some explanations and the two of them enjoy a day at Cosmic-Con. A sweet story about two friends. Recommended for kindergarten and grade 1.
Pug and Doug (Hardcover) by Steve Breen Pug and doug are best friends, but a misunderstanding could lead to the end of their friendship. A good book to read to second grade to help them learn to talk about things they do not understand that their friends did because their first conclusion may not be the correct conclusion.
This is a lovely story of two best friends and how a little misunderstanding and a big imagination can get the better of them. There is some turmoil between the two friends, but it is resolved by the end of the story when they learn to talk it out with each other.
I agree. Good solid basic story of two boy dogs who are friends. I like how it shows that you should go to great lengths to try to explain misunderstandings. The illustrations and the story layout is unique without being strange.
Pug and Doug are friends and are as different as can be. A simple misunderstanding happens and causes Doug to feel sad. My daughter enjoyed the illustrations and the story overall. Would recommend.
I thought this would be a little preachy about being a good friend. But it wasn't so much. And that made the book all the better. I wish Pug and Doug were my friends!
Totally cute story about friendship and the importance of communication. Great illustrations, and the story is funny and sweet. I really liked this one a lot!
