Dragostea este, intre cartile mele de versuri, aceea care parca a avut vocatia nesansei. Este ultima dintr-un fel de trilogie „optzecista“, care mai cuprinde Poeme de amor si Totul, dar optzecismul ei e putin trecut din copt, si din cauza asta cred ca exista in ea un fel de ambiguitate, pentru care am ezitat ani de zile s-o public, incredintata in 1986 unei edituri, i-am preferat in 1989 Visul si in 1990 Levantul, carti mai noi si mai ambitioase, complet iesite din atmosfera „anilor nebuni“ din deceniul noua.


Totusi, recitind-o dupa atatia ani, cred ca nu fac o greseala incredintand-o spre publicare editurii Humanitas. Este, in Dragostea, o veriga lipsa, a carei absenta ar obscuriza poate alte scrieri ale mele. Si, mai ales, Dragostea este o carte despre niste ani fericiti (prima mea experienta a unei adevarate bucurii), perioada pe care mi-o amintesc cu nostalgie.
Dedic Dragostea, cu dragoste, tuturor prietenilor mentionati in ea.

Mircea Cărtărescu

Romanian poet, novelist, essayist and a professor at the University of Bucharest.

Born in Bucharest, he graduated from the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Letters, Department of Romanian Language And Literature, in 1980. Between 1980 and 1989 he worked as a Romanian language teacher, and then he worked at the Writers Union and as an editor at the Caiete Critice magazine. In 1991 he became a lecturer at the Chair of Romanian Literary History, part of the University of Bucharest Faculty of Letters. As of 2010, he is an associate professor. Between 1994-1995 he was a visiting lecturer at the University of Amsterdam.

Among his writings: "Nostalgia" (a full edition of the earlier published "Visul"), 1993, "Travesti" 1994, "Orbitor" 2001, "Enciclopedia zmeilor" ("The Encyclopedia of Dragons") 2002, "Pururi tânãr, înfãsurat în pixeli" ("Forever young, convolved in pixels") 2002, "De ce iubim femeile" bestseller ("Why do we love women") 2004.

My favorite Cartarescu poetry volume. Sweet, ironic, wonderful. Full of charming visual details.

Qu'on aime ou qu'on n'aime pas M. Mircea Cartarescu (ou bien ses romans déjà traduits), il faut avoir lu CE livre : rien (à part peut-être le titre, [L'Amour]) qui soit bateau, ou alors ”ivre” de magistrale beauté moderne (quoique !), bourré de talent. RAM-tam-tam (j'applaudis vraiment, c'est lui que je choisis). Et puisque dans les années 1980 il se disait prêt à partir à l'ONU pour y rapporter la paix universelle („cri, noi putem astea toate”), dans 35 ans encore j'aurai l'audace de croire qu'il convaincra l'UNESCO. Que la Roumanie cesse donc de craindre ses poètes : „să alinăm nostalgia, frustrația, SIDA/coropișnița, moartea soarelui, infernul, omida...”
