Oh hell. What is an atheist grammarian supposed to write about a spirituality book called IS? I kicked, screamed, avoided, and finally had to lie down and take a Valium before I could even approach approaching a serious read of my dear friend Faith's first book, IS: Your Spirituality Unleashed.

But there's something in this book that works for me, and that's the permission to do it my way and to be creative about it. And if the goal of writing is to risk baring our most raw, beautiful, vulnerable parts so that our readers may relate to us and not feel so alone--and I think it is--then Faith has succeeded as a writer here.

By sharing this liberating confession about her own search for a spiritual orientation that spoke to her, Faith invites us to seek our our paths in our own quirky open-hearted ways.

My own atheism flourished because I perceived something wrong with the constraints of religion and rejected it. I think Faith and I only part ways where I rejected and she went diving for some way to make religion itself belong to her.

This book has been described as a jumping off place for spiritual mavericks to develop their own vision or philosophy. More than that, it's kind of like having life, the universe, and everything explained through the mind of a sexy, interesting, self-described party girl. I'm rating it 5 stars, because I see so many reviewers on amazon giving it 4, and I am a true maverick. There are certainly concepts here that have been discussed countless times before, but they're approached in a fresh way. If this were the first book on consciousness I'd ever read, I'd be completely blown away. Having read plenty already, I'm still quite blown away. The author views IS (Infinite Source) through the visual cue of a disco ball broken down into 4 quadrants. It's goofy, but it's a fun way of looking at deep concepts. When spirituality and holistic notions are presented in a more down to earth manner, they're much more digestable, and seem more reasonable. The idea of living an enlightened life is more accessible when all the b.s. is stripped away, and it's looked at from a different perspective. I particularly enjoyed the sections of the book that dealt with taking personal responsibility for your physical health. That's a key item that's missing from most spiritual teachings, and it shouldn't be considering its importance. The divine disco ball might not appeal to you, but it's still a great book to get a ball of your own rolling. How Am I? do you ask yourself that on a daily basis? You’ll be surprised at the answer that comes to you in silence and inner focus.

Do You Meditate? Do you try and clear your mind of the enormous clutter that can clog the pipes, create stress and divert your attention from what truly matters?

Do You visit the “here and now” in your mind?

These and other techniqu4es are the focus of Faith Freed’s new book written in her folksy style of a different generation, yet with an endearing quality that makes her feel like a young friend by the end. She uses various methods to get you thinking about yourself. What are your desires? Lead with Love. Give love – volunteer based on your “inspired self”.

As she takes you through her world, inspired and guided by IS, you’ll find many ways to connect with her spirit and the Divine. She clearly defines her perspective and the practice of spirituality as “an ongoing crative process, because a relationship with the divine is subjective, intimate, and fluid”. She’s not concerned with labels as she is with your inner and mental health.

I enjoyed Faith’s book, although it did take me a little while to get “into” it. But let your thoughts center around her message and before you know it you’ll be working your way through the exercised and guidelines.

I consider myself a cafeteria Catholic so the base point of view I found appealing right away. I enjoyed the matter of fact references and also did enjoy what a former Californian now living in the Midwest would refer to as "the California mentality"......book was very good
