“If I say so myself, I am muy foxy!” When novice P.I. Geri Sullivan first heard her adopted Chihuahua talk, she thought she’d gone barking mad. But it turns out Pepe is a savvy sleuth—and if he has his way, he’ll soon be a bone-a-fido celebrity, too, as Pepe and Geri are Hollywood-bound to star in the reality show Dancing With Dogs. So far, so bueno.
Then Nigel St. Nigel, the judge everyone loves to hate, becomes the judge someone wanted dead. Pepe and Geri are hot on a killer’s heels but between perfecting the paso doble and protecting Pepe’s Pomeranian lady love, both have their paws full. If Pepe’s new status as a Beverly Hills Chihuahua goes to his head, it may be the last waltz for Geri’s crime-biting compadre…

This is a quick easy read. Pepe is so adorable and likeable, as is Geri. The setting for this one was fun being down in LA on a TV set. Very enjoyable mystery.
This is the second book in the barking detective series. Geri Sullivan and her talking dog Pepe are set to star in a reality show called Dancing with Dogs. The "mean" judge is murdered. Geri and Pepe set out to catch a killer.
I am really enjoying this series. Pepe is so adorable and fun. I lovd his personality. The characters were well developed and very likable . I will continue with this series .
My counselor insisted that I come in for an appointment before I left Seattle.
Geri and Pepe have been asked to join the cast of Dancing with The Dogs in LA. Pepe feels this is necessary to rebuild his megabright life. Imagine their surprise when they find a judge murdered on the set. The show and the investigation must go on!
Pepe has been reintroduced to Caprice who seems to have forgotten him. This is very hard on his little doggie heart. The murder gets Pepe wound up and in detective mode much to Geri's dismay.
There are numerous suspects with lots of twists and turns. Pepe is once again the start of the book. I love his little Forrest Gump type world. He is laughable and believable all at once.
This series makes me very happy. I look forward to reading more.
With the completion of the previous book, Geri and Pepe are now traveling to Los Angeles in order to participate in the television pilot of Dancing With Dogs. Their lives become filled with costume fittings, dance rehearsals, and taped dancing before an audience but the murder of one of the judges and shortly afterwards, the Humane Society representative sparks their investigative interest. There is more than simple murder going on - there is a dog or two (or three) kidnapped for ransom.
Geri's boss, Jimmy G, decides to follow her down to LA when she receives a delivery for him at the studio. When Felix, Geri's new male friend, makes an appearance just as cameras are nearby, the illusion that the contest is 'fair' is broken especially when two of the contestant dogs have a staged fight. So much for 'reality TV'.
The amusing tales of Pepe's earlier activities weren't as funny when his supposed former owner Caprice Kennedy, is also one of the judges and Pepe's attempts to get her to recognize him was nearly heart-breaking.
One thing that did disturb me was when Alicia - on-site vet - attempted to inject a sedative into Pepe and accidentally injected Ted, a choreographer/animal activist. The disturbing part - human Ted has a great deal more mass than tiny Pepe. Even if Alicia intended to give the chihuahua a small amount, why would she fill the needle with enough drug to cause a human to be placed under observation? That much would have killed a small dog that likely weighs less than 10 pounds.
Otherwise, it was another amusing, fun read involving a feisty little dog and his human.
Please note that I did not read book 1. This book can easily stand on its own. The book is fun and a mystery all wrapped in one. I loved that Pepe was a talking chihuahua. It was interesting to know what he was thinking along the way. He really added to the story. Overall, a sweet and fun mystery that will thrill readers of all ages.
Go Dogs! So, the dogs are definitely the highlight in the book, and I liked the dogs. In small doses, this book wasn't awful, I didn't really like it per se, but I did like the dogs. The mystery wasn't as well done as I would've liked (because there isn't a whole lot of mystery solving going on that I could see) and there is pretty much no character development and I'm pretty sure this book features some of the most unbelievable asinine human characters, I mean some of the things they do are just nonsensical .
Basically, Geri still isn't the brightest or most impressive character - though she loves her dog, so she gets props for that, having to be saved by that dog, and have things explained to her by that dog doesn't help build up her character - though it does help Pepe's (who is clearly the main character).
' "Rodney Klamp. I'm Nigel's PA," he said, bristling with importance.
"PA as in public announcement?" I turned to Pepe, puzzled by the acronym.
"No as in personal assistant," said Pepe. "It is a common term in Beverly Hills. Like You."
"Like me?"
"Si! You are my PA." '
That pretty much says it all.
So, I will reiterate, it was okay in small doses, while not something I loved I did at times like it, even if at other times I could barely contain disbelief. I probably won't give the series another go, unless I happen upon the next copy in the library and feel like reading it. I just don't connect to the main human characters (particularly Geri), and while I like the dog characters some of the situations, conversations, etc., are just a little to unbelievable for my personal preference.
Oh Pepe, I adore you! Geri and Pepe are a great team once again in this second book in the Barking Detective series.. This one had me all wrapped up in their world and had some emotional ups and downs as they solved their crimes and competed in the Dancing with Dogs competition.. I love love love this duo and I will be first in line to get the 3rd book in the series when it's released!!!
Side note: this is a work of fiction, this is not suppose to be a true story.. It is a tale of mystery and dogs.. A fantasy that a lot of pet owners have wished many times! To hear what your pet wants and needs.. So those of you who are putting the book off as "stupid" because the dog talks.. Well maybe you are not reading it for what it is and maybe you should be reading nonfiction or true crime??
Pepe is again leading us on a trip to Hollywood a d the filming of Reality Show, Dancing with dogs. He leaps into trouble and Geri chases him to save him. The show has flown them to Los Angeles and the first day on the set they find one of the judges MURDER. Caprice Kennedy is one of the judges. Pepe claims once belong to her. He remembers where he live and home. He is heartbroken as Caprice does not remember him. Pepe leaphOrn through the dances, dog kidnapping, dog abuse and other adventures. Who will win the competition and who is doing the MURDERS and stealing animals.
A cute canine cozy with a touch of fantasy. Geri and her talking dancing Chihuahua Pepe compete in a surprisingly believable dance competition. Curtis makes the talking dog Jimmy G a little too much a stereotype for me, but it’s a fantasy and forgivable to add to the exciting action. Next in the series, "The Big Chihuahua" sounds like even more fun.
Fun, fun, fun! Geri and Pepe go to Hollywood to be on the show, Dancing with Dogs. They do very well. A murder takes place but the show must go on. Kidnapped dogs, shady characters abound. Geri finds out that Pepe actually does belong to Caprice, Hollywood social icon and is afraid she is going to lose the little guy she has grown to love. A great fast read.
I got tired of the talking chihuahua gimmick pretty quickly, and the mystery itself is so light-weight it could probably waft away on the breeze. Still, the genuine affection for dogs in this story makes the silliness bearable.
Chihuahua Confidential by Waverly Curtis is another exciting adventure. In this new mystery, Pepe and his owner, Geri, are headed for stardom. Pepe and Geri will be featured on Dan omg with the Dogs. It is there that they find a new case. A judge most disliked is found dead. Many suspects are found making finding the killer harder to catch. Danger, risks, and mayhem are everywhere. The pages are filled with humor. Pepe the talking Chihuahua is my favorite character. Then, there's Geri an average female who is needing a job to pay bills and feed both her and Pepe. Geri is learning to be a detective and Pepe is helping her learn. And it's not long before another case finds the pair. Hilarious, well-developed, and a perfect read for animal lovers worldwide. I enjoyed reading the first novel in this series. This second book, was just as good. Overall, I recommend it to all.
This is light, perhaps silly tale with a zany cast of characters, a dog that communicates with Geri, his new mistress and partner in crime-fighting. (Pepe being the real brains of the sleuthing duo.) They are in Los Angeles to film a show and win a contest, but get caught up in a dog-napping.
Initially Pepe the chihuahua is broken-hearted because Candace, his former mistress ---a rich Hollywood star---doesn't recognize him and has replaced him with a female papillon. But when a "Dancing With Dogs" contest judge is killed and Pepe's doggy love Siren Song gets kidnapped, then Candace's lap-dog, Pepe and Geri have some detecting to do --- as well as win the "Dancing With Dogs" performance.

Chihuahua Confidential is the second entry in Waverly Curtis’ Barking Detective series. This time Geri and Pepe, the talking chihuahua that only Geri can understand, are in Los Angeles for the taping of Dancing With Dogs, the pilot for a potential reality TV series. Dance lessons, costume fittings, dognappings, and the occasional murder keep Geri and Pepe on the go, even more so when Geri’s PI boss, the notable eccentric Jimmy G, shows up looking for a missing package. Pepe and Geri even find some answers regarding Pepe’s rather mysterious past life. The characters, both human and canine, are totally entertaining.
Gina, a sort-of private investigator, and her white chihuahua, Pepe, are invited to perform in a Dancing with the Stars-type of show, Dancing with Dogs. Almost immediately, one of the judges is murdered. Strange things happen on the show, and many people aren't who they initially appear to be, leading Gina and Pepe investigate. This book was so much FUN - the mystery was intriguing, with lots of possible perpetrators, but the best part was the relationship between Gina and her little dog (oh, how I wish I could actually understand my little dogs!). I thoroughly enjoyed this and will be reading more of these books!
What a fun read! Pepe is an amazing chihuahua and him and Geri agree to go on a dancing dog show. Pepe is definitely star material and we get to learn about Pepe history through the series. I feel like the mystery portion wasn’t so bad. I kind of figured there was more to the story, especially with Nigel St. Nigel’s death. I figured it out maybe halfway through the book, but it was still fun getting to the end.
A fun entertaining story....Geri & Pepe are of to LA to do "Dancing with Dogs", a reality TV show that Jennifer is trying to produce. Only to find one of the judges murdered on the set, and then another murder happens, and dog knapping start to happen. Will Pepe be next or will he and Geri find out what is really going on? In the mean time Geri finds out that Pepe is chipped and belongs to someone else...what will she do?
I really enjoyed this book, only to discover that Waverly Fitzgerald passed away on December 13, 2019 ( my mother's birthday). So sad to find that as I was looking for more books in this series. The stories are simple but the plots are also surprising as you get toward the end and can't put the book down. Both authors bring a simple joy of reading to this genre.
A great fluffy fun read! If you love mysteries/PI novels and you love pets, then this is for you. It made me lol so much so that my family made a list of who will read it next. I now want to read the entire series. I believe that this was book #2, but it also would have been a great stand-alone book.
It is a great barking mystery. You do have to read this series in order though to follow the events. This book starts where the last one ends. You want to keep going. I had to finish this one before sleep. It was that good.
It's silly but great, especially if you are a dog lover! It just flowed at all times. Never was I bored. This is my second book in this series and I look forward to the next.
I've loved every single one of the Pepe books by Wavery Curtis! They are just wonderful! And since I've read them all I am anxiously waiting for the next one! Terrific series!
Pepe the chihuahua and his human, Geri Sullivan, are in Los Angeles to film a new reality show called Dancing With Dogs. But things become a bit too real when two men are murdered on the sound stage and two of the canine contestants are dognapped...
