I always enjoy visiting the characters and pets in this series. I do recommend the entire series to cozy mystery fans! There was repetition of the fall leaves over and over that was a bit annoying; otherwise it was an interesting mystery!
It’s time for the annual Neewollah festival and this year the town historian, Eleanor is hosting a ghost tour in a old mansion with a spooky past. When the history of the home seems to be repeating itself with a murdered victim, Roxy is there to help clear Eleanor’s name.
This book contains some of my favorite things…Halloween stories, a cozy mystery, coffee , fur babies and of course small town southern charm. Roxy and friends are always fun to visit with, they have great chemistry. Roxy and Patrick have a great relationship. One of my favorite parts in the book was when Pepper discovered Patrick’s pumpkin he carved for a contest. Pepper is always adorable but the description of him growling at a Jack-o-lantern was so cute. The mystery is as always well crafted with plenty of twists. I was surprised at whodunit.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I have not been influenced by anyone.
I always love returning to Honey Springs and Roxy's coffee house, The Bean Hive. This series includes a wonderful dog named Pepper. He always brings added love and fun to the story. Animal adoption throughout the series brings warmth to the books. This time we have a sweet dog named Ginger. The annual Neewollah Festival is the backdrop for this spooky mystery. It's the perfect October/Halloween read with lots of surprises! Don't miss it!
Macchiato Murder the13th instalment in the A Killer Coffee Mystery Series by Tonya Kappes. I was so happy to visit Honey Springs Kentucky again, as I love this series. Get ready for a hauntingly delightful addition to the Killer Coffee Cozy Mystery series! Roxanne Bloom, the tenacious owner of the Bean Hive Coffeehouse, finds herself in the midst of a Halloween mystery that will keep cozy mystery lovers on the edge of their seats.
As always a Tonya’s stories are filled with humour, wonderful characters and a mystery to solve. I love visiting Honey Springs and the Bean Hive and this time we have a puppy named Ginger from the Pet Palace to love on.
The mystery is interesting and well plotted, I did not figure it out before the reveal!
The story moves at a steady pace, and I had a hard time putting it down thus I finished it in a few hours. Please note you could read as a stand alone, but you will want to read them all in order.
I cant wait to take another trip to Honey Springs, Kentucky, to see what Roxy and her friends get up to in Ice Coffee Corruption which releases September 24th, 2024.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading cozy mysteries.
I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It's the annual Neewollah Festival in Honey Springs, and Eleanor Blackthorn is promoting the Hollow Manor, an abandoned mansion rumored to be haunted. The invite is for the corn maze, ghost tour, and a magician act to raise money for the mansion's restoration.
When the magician is found dead, Eleanor is the prime suspect.
Eleanor becomes Roxy's client, and Roxy discovers that the secret Patrick and she share from their teenage years has much in common with other Honey Springs citizens. A visit with an author who wrote about the history of Hollow Manor reveals concerning information about an old mystery.
A clue sends Aunt Maxi and Roxy to bravely enter the haunted mansion to uncover the truth of the past and present.
Perfect spooky whodunit read for Halloween!
I received an advanced reader's copy and voluntarily read and reviewed this book!
This was another good mystery in the series. Roxy and her husband were visiting the mansion. The magician was found murdered. Roxy spent her time trying to figure out who did it. Thankfully, she solves it and all is well for now.
I have to say I was surprised at the ending!!! This was very interesting and a great read!! I love the characters and the storyline was really well thought out and very well written. Had me guessing the whole time. Thank you so much for the wonderful recipes!!
"Macchiato Murder" is book 13 in the "Killer Coffee Mystery " series by Tonya Kappes. It's always fun returning to Honey Springs, Kentucky with Roxy and the Bean Hive. Roxy and Patrick are on a fall outing when a murder happens at the "haunted" mansion. Roxy finds herself being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Roxy is also one to not let things be left undone, so she starts investigating things. This is one of those series where you just enjoy reading it and wanting more. My favorite part is when Roxy and Pepper are heading to the Bean Hive, and Pepper growls at the pumpkin. I also enjoy when the animals that need adopted find their "fur"ever home.
I was so happy to visit Honey Springs, Kentucky again! The Bean Hive, known for the best cup of Joe in town, combines the aromas of Roxy’s freshly roasted coffee beans and baked goods while inviting folks in for a spell. The excellent businesswomen and friends enjoy all four seasons. It sounds like one of the most gorgeous places in the world for autumn color. Roxy, a licensed attorney, hasn’t practiced much since she moved to Honey Springs for good. A couple years ago she opened the Bean Hive, then began to roast her own beans. She occasionally gives legal advice if someone is in need, but Roxy’s hands are full with her shop, roastery, husband Patrick, and their pups.
It is late October, the Neewollah Festival is opening, and Roxy will have quite the mystery to solve before the week is over. Hill’s Orchard, famous for their many fresh farm products, had hosted Neewollah festivals for years. This year, Eleanor, the new owner of Hollow Manor, dressed it up into the epitome of haunted houses. She wanted all the events at the haunted mansion, got the Chamber of Commerce involved, and her property voted in. Losing that chunk of income could mean the end of Hill’s Orchard.
If I wanted to go into a haunted house, I would for sure read Macchiato Murder again! Roxy’s walk through and narrative of what she experienced inside Hollow Manor brought it to life. I really felt as if I were there at the elegant manor in its Neewollah costume. It was said to be cursed since the last time it was opened for a party, over fifty years ago. A magician was killed that night and it hadn’t hosted guests since. Eleanor hired a magician for this year’s events. Eleanor is also a storyteller extraordinaire. Even if she embellishes the truth a bit, folks around there love her tales. Roxy was exploring the manor and the detailed renovations her husband did for Eleanor. I loved the library the best, especially when she found something that set me on the edge of my seat, wishing I could see it. At least until it led her to the just-murdered body of Mangus, the unfortunate magician.
Roxy didn’t plan to look into Mangus’s death. She had helped solve several murders since moving to town, but only if someone close to her was involved. That wasn’t the case until Roxy was asked to represent Eleanor, at least for the short-term, if necessary. Eleanor said she was being set up and asked Roxy to find whodunit.
There were others who may have had a motive to kill the magician, but the evidence stacked up and pointed straight at Eleanor. Roxy knows Eleanor is lying about something, so she needs to sort through, find the lies, and verify the truth. Even with the help of Aunt Maxi and Bunny, they might not find whodunit before those metal bracelets snapped and locked tight around Eleanor’s wrists. I was shocked at whodunit, not recalling even one clue suggesting that person! I highly recommend this novel especially to those who enjoy Southern cozy mysteries set around Halloween, where the uniquely roasted coffee and pastries are excellent, and a magic school I’d love to see more of!
From a thankful heart: I received a complimentary ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.

Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. When Eleanor Blackthown wants to raise funds for an historical registry, she hires a magician to help with the festivities. But when the magician is found dead, Roxanne must figure out who killed him and why. But it will not be easy.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me in the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery is well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider.
I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. It was great to get back together with Roxanne and her family and friends and see what is new with them.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided my honest review.
You can never go wrong with a cozy mystery written by Tonya Kappes. The town of Honey Springs goes all out when celebrating Halloween. Their festival is called the Neewollah Festival (Halloween spelled backwards). I love it! The imagination of Tonya Kappes is far above the rest of us.
Roxanne Bloom owns the Bean Hive Coffee Shop, and is preparing for the festival. Roxanne's coffee is well known and well loved in Honey Springs. The festival has it all including candy, costumes, pumpkins and, of course, a haunted mansion known as Hollow Manor. Rumors have swirled around this home for years dating back to the time that Roxanne and her now husband visited this abandoned home in the dead of night and were scared senseless. I could not help myself. I kept getting Scooby Doo vibes reading this book. When a magician who is supposed to perform is killed, Roxy has use to her legal expertise to try and clear her friend's name.
This is another great cozy mystery with plenty of suspects to choose from, and plenty of surprises. I love the characters in this series. Roxy is not your average coffee shop owner, as she was an attorney in her former life. This makes her investigative nose a little more sensitive. I also love the fact that Roxy helps the a local business, the Pet Palace, by trying to find homes for rescued dogs. This warms my heart. Roxy's dog, Pepper, is a schnauzer that is the coffee shop's mascot.
The description of the baked goods from the Bean Hive made my mouth water. There are recipes shared at the end of the book which make them even more tantalizing. Reading this book will make you long for the cool nights of fall, leaves falling on the ground and enjoying a cup of coffee by a cozy fire all while reading a cozy mystery and trying to solve the mystery. So grab of cup of java and slip into the town of Honey Springs. You will enjoy your time there.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
It’s Halloween time and magic is in the air in Lake Honey Springs, Kentucky and the Neewollah Festival is in full swing. I adore the name of the festival which is Halloween spelled backwards. So creative. And speaking of creative, a treat with the tag “Boo Appetit!” is sold.
Fall is my favorite season and if it is yours you’ll love this book because there are so many references to the fall scenery, such as the colors of the leaves 🍁 and the scents in the air. Pumpkin spice all the way! I was inspired while reading to create my own autumn dish. Low carb style. I just pulled my almond flour crust from the oven. I added cinnamon, erythritol (zero carb natural sugar), melted butter, and almond extract to the almond flour. I pressed the mixture into an 8”x8” metal pan and baked at 350° for 10 minutes. So good. Next I’m going to mix together cream cheese, zero sugar pudding, and some Fall spices. I’ll pour that over the baked crust and then bake the pie long enough to meld the flavors together. By the way, this book includes 3 recipes at the end - one for cookies, one for harvest coffee, and one for scones, all of which are Autumn ready.
There is talk of magic as a magician is murdered. There is also a haunted house that holds secrets of the past and maybe a ghost or two.
Roxy asked an author named Samuel, “‘Do you think those memories can communicate with us? Reach out to us in some way?’ I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Samuel looked at me, his gaze steady and serious. ‘I believe that some emotions are so powerful, so profound, that they transcend time and space. They linger, waiting for someone to feel them, to recognize them. In that sense, yes, they can communicate. But not with words or signs. With feelings, sensations.’”
I thought that was pretty profound and as good an explanation as most of the existence of ghosts. And that reminds me, Tonya Kappes wrote a lot of poetic-like passages. I found myself forgetting about the murder and instead wanting to write paragraphs down of what was contained.
I enjoyed this book. I couldn't help but think of Scooby Doo and had the phrase 'if it wasn't for those pesky kids' running through my mind. Okay Roxanne and her aunt are not teenagers but it gives off that type of vibe with them trying to solve a mystery in a haunted house. It's a lot of fun too. The characters are likeable but you were introduced to a lot of them at the start and I thought I would struggle with remembering or keeping everybody straight. I needn't have worried and quickly got it straight in my mind. This is book 13 and having listened too a few books in the series but no where near in the right order, I can say they do work as standalone books. They are written with both first time readers and long time fans in mind. You certainly don't forgot what time of The year this takes place and even the recipes at the end of the book continue the fall theme. The mystery was interesting with all the different suspects and like Roxanne I was surprised who the killer turned out to be. I didn't see that coming. I can't wait to join the gang in there next investigation. When Roxanne's friend Eleanor decides to restore a historic mansion in order to raise finds she turns it into a Halloween attraction. Some of the town's people aren't happy with the changes and when a magician is found dead it looks like Eleanor's plans might be put on hold while she goes to jail. Roxanne quickly discovers that the victim wasn't the first magician to die in the mansion. Strange noises have kept people away for years, including Roxanne but can she put the past behind her and discover the truth? I liked the narrator. She has a pleasant voice which meant she did some good voices and even had to sing at one point. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
It’s the time of the year where I start to read books that match the holiday or season. Tonya Kappes new book ‘Macchiato Murder’ was just released and perfect timing. This book is book 13 of the A Killer Coffee Mystery series she has going, and the book is a full-on Halloween theme type book. From pumpkins to hayrides this Halloween isn’t going to be a breeze. Roxanne has another murder she is going to help slove. What’s great about this series is the coffee theme but also the small town feel where everyone knows everyone and the drama with the small town is real. Everyone has secrets and Roxanne makes sure to dig them all out.
This book will have you jumping from that person to that person trying to figure out who done it. But leading up to the murder or mystery is always fun as well. While I’m starting the book, I am always thinking how is this mystery or murder going to happen? The rollercoaster of the mystery that Tonya puts you on is nothing but the best like normal.
‘Macchiato Murder’ is a sold four-star cozy mystery read that you will love from start to finish and really helps put you in that autumn/Halloween vibe. I know this one will be on my autumn/Halloween read for years to come and I know you’re going to love it as well. You can get this book on Amazon and if you’re a Kindle Unlimited member it’s included in your membership. So, grab those cozy socks, that hot cup of whatever your favorite fall drink is and start reading this book.
**I would like to thank Tonya Kappes for the ARC copy of this book. Getting the ARC Copy had no influence on my thoughts of the book as they are all my own.**
Time to return to Honey Springs, Kentucky, for the Halloween season and of course…murder in the 13th installment of the Killer Coffee Series. The haunted Hallow Manor is being reopened as a Haunted House just in time for the Neewollah festival. As teens, Roxy and Patrick snuck into the manor and high-tailed it out of there after being frightened by a haunting.
Patrick’s construction company worked on fixing up the manor and on the opening night of the festival, Roxy’s Bean Hive had a tent for coffee, hot chocolate, and treats for the guests visiting the manor. After a hayride, Roxy goes exploring in the manor to see the renovations, hears a loud bang, and finds the body of the magician hired as entertainment. Eleanor, the owner of Hallow Manor, is the number one suspect, as she was heard arguing with the magician right before he was killed. Since Roxy maintains her law license, Eleanor enlists her help to prove she is being set up. Roxy dons her sleuthing hat and sets out to clear Eleanor, find the person responsible, and maybe discover the mystery behind the haunting of Hallow Manor.
I enjoy every trip to Honey Springs and would love to live there, visit the boardwalk, stop in for a treat at the Bean Hive, adopt a pet from the Pet Palace, and buy cute items from the Walk in the Bark Animal Boutique. The detail of the scenery in this series is so incredible you could close your eyes and join the lively characters in solving each mystery.
This is one of the best books in the series and will keep you guessing until the end! I received an ARC of this book, and the review and opinions are all my own.
Just in time for Halloween, the author presents a story that will send shivers down your spine with laughter and mystery. Roxanne is in the wrong place at the wrong time when a body is discovered. The town is geared up for the celebration of Neewollah Festival and everything is spooky including a haunted mansion. I adored the description of the mansion and all the decorations that make it eerily fun to walk through. The murder has everyone guessing and I think a little bit scared.
I am so happy to be back in Honey Springs with quaint little shops and fun characters like Roxy’s aunt Maxi who find themselves going into the haunted house to uncover evidence that will prove Eleanor’s innocence. I can’t imagine me ever stepping foot in a haunted mansion but I did peek over Roxy’s shoulder as she creeped along in the place. Secret passageways and unknown sounds drive the story forward as the investigation starts to take a twist. A magician’s body is laying on the floor but Roxy discovers something different about this magician. What did she notice that others didn’t see?
Get ready for an adventure where secrets, lies and danger abound. I loved how the author takes the story through a bit of history about the mansion and how it connects many people together. The book is very good with an ending that shocked me. I never suspected who was behind everything and how the author cleverly hid clues throughout the book. One of her best stories yet.
I received a digital copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
Neewollah Festival is here, which is Honey Spring’s celebration of everything fall. Just the food could draw you in, with choices like Wicked Witch Cupcakes, Spooky Spiderweb Donuts, Pumpkin Patch Pies and Monster Mash Cookies. And everyone is excited about the return of the Hollow Mansion, which has been closed for over fifty years, due to (at least to an old wives’ tale) a curse that once took the life of a magician at a Halloween party.
But Roxy can’t help but feel a sense of dread coming upon the town, as if something isn’t right. And that feeling proves true when a magician is murdered, and Roxy agrees to help her friend who is the prime suspect. The suspect list grows as we learn about disagreements over the manor, two different magicians fighting and more. Will Roxy be able to solve this one and clear her friend, staying safe at the same time?
I loved the descriptions of everything fall/Halloween in this book, from the food offerings to the Hollow Manor rooms and decorations. And I didn’t see the ending coming at all.
If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Bean Hive and have one of Roxy’s macchiatos, now’s the time to start! This really is a feel good cozy warm series. The characters and town are well written, with the small community where everybody knows everybody else. But that doesn’t mean that all the going’s on are perfect in town, hmm? I received an arc copy of this book, but all opinions are my own.
I love this series!!!! Honey Springs is getting ready for it's spirit for Halloween, but it's called Neewollah Festival and the town celebrates it for a week or so. It's also to celebrate the fall season. The businesses have vendor tents put up at Hollow Manor, A so called known haunted house. The Hollow Manor was purchased by Eleanor to turn it into a ghost attraction, but slot of the towns people don't want Honey Springs known for the ghost Manor. The town would have a hay ride from The Hills Orchard, but Eleanor got the committee to vote for her to have the hay ride at Hollow Manor, then she would have a magician perform inside with the tents outside with food drinks, pumpkin carving contest and all sorts of games. Robbie and the Bean Hive is there at their booth, she sees the magician perform a little outside in the pumpkin patch where the people can pick their pumpkins to buy. Robbie goes inside to see the set up and finds secret passage ways and overheard an argument and everything goes down hill from that. It takes Robbie and aunt Maxie to uncover the big mystery of Hollow Manor!! You have to get this book because I left.out so much and not in the right order for you to read for yourselves!!!! You won't be disappointed!!!!
Macchiato Murder is the 13th book in the Killer Coffee Mystery series by Tonya Kappes. When a local historian receives approval to raise funds to restore an old, abandoned mansion, she plans a celebration, complete with corn maze, ghost tours, hayrides, and a magician. During the celebration, Roxi finds the magician dead inside the mansion. A perfect story for Halloween, Roxi finds herself knee-deep in another mystery.
Macchiato Murder pulls you in and keeps you engaged. The mystery was well-written and kept me on my toes. I found myself guessing who the murderer could be, the motive, and why it took place at the mansion. I was not clued into who the murderer was until the reveal.
Every time I thought I knew who the suspect was, something would happen, and I’d have to try and figure it out again. I love that in a mystery - fill the book full of twists and turns, red herrings, and deliberate misdirects so I have a tough time figuring everything out.
I enjoyed all the characters. The world building had me feeling like I was right in the middle of Honey Springs. I was able to visualize the town, the activities, and the people.
Macchiato Murder is another exciting installment in Kappes' Killer Coffee cozy mystery series. This book proved to be the perfect fall read with its Halloween mystery. Roxy and the town of Honey Springs are getting into the Halloween spirit with the Neewollah Festival. Different activities in the town including a magic show at a haunted mansion has everyone in town celebrating. Roxy even has booth set up for her coffee shop. When the magician is found murdered before his performance, Roxy decides to solve this case.
Kappes sets up a perfect Halloween mystery that fits in perfect with the season. The book's mystery is well done full of enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. I loved seeing all of my favorite secondary characters back in action because I really think that they add to the story. I also really love Roxy and Patrick's relationship. Overall Macchiato Murder proved to be a great read that I would most definitely recommend. I look forward to reading Roxy's next adventure.
Received a copy of Macchiato Murder from the author.
Festival, an Anniversary, with magic blending along the way This was a new to me series, and just jumping in I did not get lost. Loved the characters and how they related to one another. This is a whodunit mystery that I had the wrong person as the killer. Tonya Kappes did a wonderful job developing the characters and plot twists and turns. This is a small town (Honey Springs) that celebrates in a big way. Loved the details and could see the cleverly named shops as Roxy strolled by them. In the midst of all the activities, there is a murder, and everyone involved with the manor seem to have a motive. Roxy, a lawyer in another life, steps in to defend one of the accused. I enjoyed the small-town banter, everyone knows something about someone and Roxy gets the information she needs, when she needs it. Some of the encounters were especially chuckle worthy. I cannot wait to read the next book. I already looked up the first 10, as a set on Kindle Unlimited. Come on in and have a cup of the Special Blend, you won’t regret it.
This is the 13th book in the Killer Coffee mystery series by Tonya Kappes and revolves around Roxanne Bloom (Roxy), the owner of the Bean Hive Coffeehouse.
Roxy is furnishing coffee for the Halloween festival, which is being held on the site of a “haunted house” that Eleanor Blackthorn wants to have declared a historical site. Unfortunately, a magician hired to entertain at the house is discovered dead and Roxy and her aunt Maxi poke around to discover the killer.
I liked that Patrick features more prominently in this story than the last one and I love the relationship he and Roxy has. It is also fun that the story is set during the time of year that Roxy and Patrick got married and it is approaching their first anniversary.
There were many suspects and I felt that the killer and the reason behind the killing were surprising, which is always fun. The characters in this series are interesting and the fact that Roxy tries to place dogs into homes through her coffeehouse is a nice aspect to the series.
A great read for any time of year, but even more perfect for anyone who loves a good Halloween mystery. Author Tonya Kappes has done a masterful job of mixing this seasonal theme into the everyday lives of the residents of Honey Springs.
Roxy once again is helping a dog get adopted by bringing it into her Bean Hive Coffee Shop to meet her customers. The annual Neewollah Festival is in full swing, only this time this time there is some disagreement about it being held in a new location. Everything is running smoothly until the dead body of an event entertainer is discovered at the scene.
I’m going to admit that I found this story a bit more chilling than I have others in the series. But that’s not a bad thing! It just meant I was turning pages as the tension grew stronger because I really wanted to keep reading. There are plenty of suspects with possible motives and I was not able to guess the identity of the killer.
If you love trying new treats, Tonya Kappes has included recipes at the end of the book for several tasty sounding sweets from the Bean Hive.
Oh this one was just the best so far i think. I loved the twists and the ending was so perfect i even shed a tear ( yes i'm sensitive) Roxy and Patrick are so perfect together, i love the trust they have in each others when a murder happens at the manor, Roxy is tasked to help Eleanor, the owner, to prove her innoncence and find the culprit. However , the murder of a magician in the place another died years ago deepens the mystery. Is the manor haunted? Why some people were against its new occupation?Honey springs is torn betyween tradition and future?
Roxy will have a lot to uncover to find the culprit and motives seems to be legions.Thankfully she got help at the Bean Hive coffe shop because halloween season is very busy and the festival must go on despite the tragic events.
really a wonderful cozy mystery with a great setting, great characters and excellent story plot as well as the best ending possible
Fall is my favorite time of the year, fantastic weather with cool nights and warm days, fall colors, Thanksgiving, but most of all Halloween! I get hungry just reading the wonderful deserts and mmmmm the coffee Roxy has for fall and Halloween. Low-retta is as funny as usual, I really think she and Aunt Maxi enjoy sniping at each other. Magicians are a great idea for the Hollow Manor, and Halloween decorations, pretty sure murdering someone in the manor is a thrill “killer”. (Pun intended) Fun that Roxy gets involved right away by finding the body, and Patrick is helping her instead of telling her to not snoop in the murder. But she figures it out in the end.
There is no shortage of suspects, right away I suspected people on the hay ride. Poor Eleanor wants her Hollow Manor to succeed, she does have a wonderful idea about using it as a fun place to celebrate. Can’t wait for the next one.
Another fun whodunit from Tonya Kappes. The Neewollah Festival is underway in Honey Springs. Several events have been planned by historian Eleanor Blackthorn at Hollow Manor to raise funds for the mansion’s restoration. But plans come to a halt when the body of a magician is found in the mansion and Eleanor becomes a suspect. But she’s not the only suspect. As clues are discovered and more of Honey Springs history is revealed, Roxanne “Roxy” Bloom, owner of the Bean Hive Coffeehouse, is immersed right in the middle of all the intrigue. She is bound and determined to solve the crime and gets herself into trouble along the way. Can she accomplish that before any more lives are lost, including her own?
The ending was a surprise.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
