Corey Russell calls us to return to the ancient paths of slowing down, taking time for long and loving meditation on the Word of God. God's Word is to shape all of life, to transform us from the inside out; not something to be rushed over so we can read through the Bible in a year.
Corey shares much of his story as he leads the reader down a path of intimately engaging with God through meditating on his Word. Being from IHOP-KC, he does a wonderful job emphasizing the themes of being devoted to one thing through the life of Mary of Bethany, as well as giving practical tips and insights into how to meditate on his Word. He calls us to hear God's Word afresh—not just to read it, but to hear it and eat it—and teaches us from Psalm 119 how to delight in it, not just boringly reading through the Bible.
God's Word is an invitation to encounter, Russell says, and transformation and change should come as we encounter the God of the Word, not just information. This was definitely worth all the time to read it. In fact, I even read it twice.
