I was really impressed by this book. The author speaks from the heart and from experience. Although explained simply and directly it is surprisingly powerful.
If you want to get the utmost from your Bible then book can help you dig further that you hav before.
The authority is not sprouting some complicated theology, is not expecting you to be someone other than who you are, but is showing you how to get more Jesus than you thought possible.
An excellent and knowledge based truth of scripture to all searching for the Truth, the Life and the Way. A blessing to all who read this book along with the Word of GOD. Amen
Having read the other two book by Corey Russell, one thing you can notice after reading or hearing him preaching is his intense and passionate way he speaks about the knowledge of God and going deeper with Him through prayer or through His Word, and this book is no exception.
This book is about how have we lost our intimacy with the Word of God (as individuals and as church), but mostly how we can recover that lost intimacy.
I really like the boldness on how Corey speaks and writes, challenging our most deepest beliefs and mindsets about what the Word of God really is, and how it can become from being a boring place to be to the most delightful thing we can find in our lives.
Before getting to the practical section, Corey takes us into a Biblical journey about the Word of God. The Word being a living person through Jesus, the Word burning in our hearts with passion, and finding delight living the Word, just like David did. We can find a brief review in the book of David's life enjoying the Word in Psalms 119.
After this, the book turns to practical keys on meditation on the Word. There's a theme throughout the whole book, but more specificly in this section about meditation and contemplation. To some it may sound strange and completely foreign to the "normal" christian mindset, but let me say that Corey speaks of the results out of his own experience. So I invite you to try these tools and see if there's any improvement by yourself, always guided by the Holy Spirit.
Then Corey takes the last part of the book to talk about Mary of Bethany and her example of extravang devotion to the living Word, Jesus, and how she was able to know and to move Jesus' heart, thanks to her meditation in Jesus' words.
Finally the book speaks about the Word of God and its application in different areas and circumstances in our lives: as fire, hammer, water and sword, revealing the importance to know the Word in order let God do His work in us.
I finished the book really quick, I found what I was looking for, it is a word of encouragement to those who long for a deeper relationship with God, and to those who are willing to take a commitment with His Word.
I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to make a commitment with God, to go deeper into His Word, and take the time to experiment the living Person behind the words
Corey Russell calls us to return to the ancient paths of slowing down, taking time for long and loving meditation on the Word of God. God's Word is to shape all of life, to transform us from the inside out; not something to be rushed over so we can read through the Bible in a year.
Corey shares much of his story as he leads the reader down a path of intimately engaging with God through meditating on his Word. Being from IHOP-KC, he does a wonderful job emphasizing the themes of being devoted to one thing through the life of Mary of Bethany, as well as giving practical tips and insights into how to meditate on his Word. He calls us to hear God's Word afresh—not just to read it, but to hear it and eat it—and teaches us from Psalm 119 how to delight in it, not just boringly reading through the Bible.
God's Word is an invitation to encounter, Russell says, and transformation and change should come as we encounter the God of the Word, not just information. This was definitely worth all the time to read it. In fact, I even read it twice.
This is a fantastic book. It is by no means a difficult read as the author mixes personal stories and suggestions with very practical and Biblical teachings on the word of God. What I loved most about this book is you could sense Corey Russell's sincerity on each page. He is fully engaged with what he's writing and he is in no way grasping at straws. This is dear to his heart. This book has challenged me like few others have to really get into the scriptures more consistently... But not only has it challenged me, it has given me some tools I do so more effectively and consistently. I am excited to see what fruit may come of putting the biblical principles referenced by Corey into place in my life
Fantastic book that was very timely for me. A great reminder to slow down and converse with The Lord over His Word as I allow it to transform me. No need to get in a hurry when God invites us to know Him to the depths. Thank you, Corey Russell.
