Are you afraid that . . you'll never reach the end of dirty diapers? You'll never be free of carpool duty? Your teenager's rebellion will never end? The empty nest is just a little too empty? Fear not, seasons change. You blink twice and find yourself in another situation. Maybe longing for the "old days" or maybe grateful for the freshness of a new season. But like it or not, the seasons will come, each in its sequence and each in its own time. Using lively examples from her own life and those of other women - including Esther - Lois Evans challenges you to to discover the purpose of your life and to depend on Him as He teaches the lessons of each season. In this book, you will find helpful priniciples, recognize familiar emotions, and take to heart encouraging promises from the pages of God's Word. In this edition a new chapter on the grandparenting season has been added. And to help you dig deeper - whether alone or with friends - chapter study questions are included.
Our Father, who is very much like a farmer, divides our life into a season of planting, growth, pruning and harvest. I like how Ms. Evans uses these details in our Christian journey which determines our calling. No matter where you are, raising teenagers , at dead end job, barely making it, remember it is only a season. Although we don’t know what our call might entail, the initial start to this journey begins with the planting of seeds. This is the time when God gives us our dream (our calling), he prunes and allows us learn lessons while we grow. The harvest, which provides a blueprint for our lives, is a time when the true meaning of our call from the Lord.
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. This book cover is on my Pinterest board and my blog, Michelle Dragalin’s Journey.
This book beautifully explained the book of Esther and Lois used it to explain the various seasons of our lives. It really helped me to change my perspective as I was starting to become discouraged by waiting for what felt like a long time. This is a great book for anyone needing some encouragement.
At the time of my first reading, I was in the "planting" season. Then, I had my Mother and BOTH my Sisters sitting next to me. We were all happy and healthy.
Now, I am in "harvesting" season and only one bio Sister with me.... but so many may Sisters-in-Love to help me see God's plan revealed.
If you have now experienced these seasons, I don't think the book will resonate with you as much. It is very scripture heavy though, so if that's what you're looking for, this is a helpful tool. It speaks of the story of Esther alot throughout.
This was such a foundational Reid that I did with my friend we had bought the DVD set, and did the devotional to Lois Evans, and her daughters are truly light of the Lord, and really captured the subject of seasons beautifully! Rest in peace to the queen of herself Lois Evans! Highly read rec!
This book was a great reminder that the seasons in our life are purposeful. Seasons require patience and faith while we wait for God’s plan to come to fruition. Great read that I am sure I will return to throughout the years!
This book,Seasons of a Woman's Life is written by Lois Evans, wife of Pastor Tony Evans of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas.
Using the story of Esther in the Bible as a guide and reference, Mrs. Evans shows us how we can learn to adjust to each season of our lives through faith in Jesus Christ, and reliance on God's Word. Through Esther's example, she expertly explains how we as Christian women, can walk through this life with the same faith, courage, obedience and love that Esther herself displayed, and how Mrs. Evans herself applies these principles to her own life as she moves through her seasons.
I recommend every Christian sister who truly seeks to a close relationship with Jesus Christ to pick up this book, as she addresses women of every age in this volume. May God continue to bless Mrs. Evans, He husband, her ministry and her family.
I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads. The author is someone I could see sitting down and having some long and great conversations. However I would be cautious about who I recommended it for. It's definitely geared toward strong Christians, so I would say if your recommending it to someone know who your talking to or read it together with them. There are some bits that were slow and some felt repetitive and I wish she shared more on her personal story. Many of the thoughts are ones I have considered before so maybe that played into it some. There were some good quotes in this book and God definitely used it to comfort me and remind me about certain truths. The author often wrote of speaking engagements and she is someone who I would be interested in hearing in person. For some reason I think she would be more compelling in person then in print.
I found this book being a great reference book, that I will review from time to time. It will be an encouraging as well as motivational tool, letting me know that I am not alone. The same emotions that I feel others have felt them during their trials. Dr. Evans is a real person and her transparency is well appreciated. Her heart can be felt throughout the book.
Lois Evans wrote a great book, as she shared the joys & challenges of growing and learning in each season God brings us to. God has a purpose and blessings for each season we face & I loved the acrostic for seasons: S - Sovereignty of God. E - Elevation by God. A - Assistance from God. S - Submission to God. O - Opportunities from God. N - Needs met by God.
This read was exactly what I needed as a women of faith. It was comforting to read through this book of conformation. Lois Evans gave meaning to the stages of a women's life as she tries to get closer to God and manage her family life. I would recommend this read for women who are trying to raise there children in Godly house holds and support there husband in ministry.
I don't normally do five stars but this book was amazing. The best inspirational book I've read all year! Definitely a page turner and eye opener. I loved it!
This book is awesome. It is like a cooling fountain on a hot summer's day. Mrs. Evans has so much knowledge of God's word and she uses it to encourage her sisters in Christ in their walk with Jesus.
