Heel leuk! Nu weten we eindelijk dat de uitspraak 'dat zullen de kaboutertjes wel gedaan hebben' waar is. Prikkelt de fantasie en inclusief humor. Ik stem voor meer losse deeltjes met verhalen over Kik 0:) of haar kabouterzus die Kafka leest.

Ik ga deze aanschaffen voor mn peutergroep, al is de doelgroep misschien nog meer kleuters.

‘Het Kabouterboek’ is de winnaar van de Sardes Leespluim december en dat is in mijn ogen zeker terecht! 😍

Dit kinderboek zit vol met gedetailleerde tekeningen waar kinderen heerlijk in kunnen verdwalen ♥️ In ‘Het Kabouterboek’ wordt je door kabouter Kik meegenomen in het leven van een kabouter. Kik laat je zien waar en hoe ze wonen, wat ze dagelijks doen, maar ook hoe ze zich verborgen houden.

Riphagen schreef en illustreerde dit verhaal helemaal zelf. De prenten en het verhaal komen realistisch over waardoor je na het (voor)lezen van dit boek bijna gaat geloven dat kabouters echt bestaan. In de tekeningen zijn er herkenbare voorwerpen gebruikt om te kunnen aantonen hoe klein kabouters nou echt zijn. Dit zorgt er ook voor dat er een boel te beleven valt op de bladzijdes van dit kinderboek. Wat ik zelf een erg leuk detail vond is de La Chouffe verwijzing op de buitenkant van een voorgevel: een speciaalbier brouwerij waarbij in het logo gebruik wordt gemaakt van een kaboutertje. Als speciaalbier liefhebber moest ik daar natuurlijk wel even om lachen 🙊

Op de tweede afbeelding zie je een voorbeeld van hoe een pagina in ‘Het Kabouterboek’ eruit kan zien. Zoals je ziet: enorm gedetailleerd. Deze boeken lijken mij ook zeer geschikt te gebruiken op school of een kinderopvang, maar daar kan Sardes je meer over vertellen 😉 (non-spon, ik vind hun maandelijkse Leespluim met bedachte activiteiten gewoon erg leuk!).

Je merkt het al: ik ben zeker fan van dit kinderboek. Dus… Mocht je nog op zoek zijn naar een kinderboek voor onder de kerstboom? Vergeet dan zeker deze niet 😉

The Gnome Book is an imaginative and fun children's book that will be sure to encourage imaginative play, whether that is making a gnome hat or searching for signs of gnomes around the house. This book seems very fun for a child with some gross and weird elements that kids usually find hilarious.
The book follows a gnome teaching us about gnome-y things like how many toes they have, what their hats mean to them, and how they keep their pets.
The illustrations really suit the silly energy and offer plenty of little things to look at and notice.
Overall, it was a silly, goofy time and offers plenty of specifics with which a kid could go off and play pretend with.

Alles wat je ooit wilde weten over kabouters heeft Loes Riphagen in dit prachtige prentenboek weten te verzamelen.

Maak kennis met Kik. Hij neemt je mee in zijn wereld, de wereld van de kabouters. Je leert alles over deze wonderlijke wezens, van hun uiterlijk en karakter tot waar ze wonen en wat hun de hele dag bezig houdt. Zo ontdek je bijvoorbeeld dat kabouters ook hun weg naar de stad hebben gevonden en na het lezen en bekijken van dit boek, zie je ineens overal de mogelijke ingang van een kabouterhuis. Maar dit boek leert je nog veel meer, wist je bijvoorbeeld dat kabouters geweldig zijn in gebarentaal? Of elkaars emotie over kunnen nemen? Naast alle weetjes zitten er ook grapjes verstopt in het boek en wordt er gebruik gemaakt van veel herkenbare dingen uit de belevingswereld van jonge kinderen. Iets wat ongetwijfeld zal leiden tot leuke gesprekken, onderzoeksvragen en veel (lees)plezier!

Alles aan dit boek klopt, van de mooie stevige kaft, het rode lint als bladwijzer tot de waanzinnige illustraties op stevige pagina's. Het is met recht een prentenboek, er valt zo ontzettend veel te zien en te ontdekken. Heerlijk om met je groep kleuters of je eigen kind lekker in weg te duiken. Een heel gaaf boek wat ook goed te gebruiken is bij het thema van de kinderboekenweek van 2023!

Das Leben der Wichtel


In ihrem Buch "Das geheime Buch der Wichtel" erzählt Loes Riphagen von den kleinen Wichteln und ihrem Alltag.

Das Buch ist wunderschön illustriert und besticht mit sehr vielen Details, so dass man gerne länger auf einer Seite verweilt und was Neues entdeckt.

Als Leser*in taucht man in die Welt der Wichtel ein: Wer sind sie? Was tun sie? Wo leben sie? Was mögen sie?
Die Geschichte ist dabei so süß, lustig und skurril und beinhaltet so viele kleine Details, die voller Fantasie und Ideenreichtum strotzen. Zudem habe ich das Gefühl, dass das Buch ein bisschen mehr Inhalt durch die Details und Seiten hat, was einem ein kurzes, aber länger erscheinendes Leseerlebnis bereitet.

Das Buch ist toll für kleinere Kinder, die gerne etwas über diese niedlichen Kreaturen erfahren wollen und gerne in andere Welten abtauchen (beziehungsweise unsere Welt aus einer anderen Perspektive sehen wollen).

This is a quirky and entertaining children’s book. It is like the diary of a young gnome introducing themselves and inviting us into their world existing alongside our own.
It is expressed in clear, simple text, overflowing with humour, cheeky irreverent fun and interesting insights.
Full of colour, with detailed illustrations. Within their society and homes there is an abundance of everyday items we can recognise and other things cannibalised, re-invented and re-used.
There is so much to see and unpack in these pages in addition to the gentle explanation of a gnome’s way of life.

This is a book to entertain and delight your children as it opens a window on an alternative reality we are often unaware of in our busy adult lives. The world of imagination and make believe.
Loes Riphagen is both author and illustrator. She has done a wonderful thing in allowing us to grasp what is apparent in the twinkling of an eye or a liberal sprinkling of fairy dust. A real pleasure to read and share with my grandchildren. To see and listen to them processing this enchanting dimension of gnome existence.

The values shared within these pages among gnome families and within their communities are honest, worthwhile and inspiring. So opening this book is to cast a brief look upon the magic of fairytales and hopefully beyond the fun, grasp an enjoyable experience; to imagine new ideas and take up enduring values and life lessons.

A rich and pictorially detailed view into the life of a modern gnome family.

The Gnome Book by Loes Riphagen is full of quirky nonfiction-esque details about daily gnome life that map neatly onto a child's own life experiences. Gnome belly buttons are on their backs! Their heads start round and grow pointy (ours start pointy and then get round. Ha.) They use spider webs as band-aids!

The reader sees gnome family structure, insects/animals they live with, and the landscape the navigate as the family of characters go to build things (gnomes don't have jobs, they just help each other) and school. Everyday objects from human life recontextualized in the building of the gnome world encourages close reading of the pictures and thus draws the reader into the world of the gnomes themselves. The craftiness of the gnomes may inspire some crafting with everyday objects in the reader after the book is closed.

The book is the right size to depict the gnomes in their actual size. Did you know they are as tall (with the hat) as 6 sweets piled on top of each other? The illustrations are cartoonish but the gnomes have just the right amount of pink blended into their cheeks to make them feel real and in the flesh. The grays of the unnamed European feeling city make the glowing jeweled tones of the gnome home interiors all the more lively and cozy. Children will enjoy seeing small structural details from typical urban scenes re-enchanted as possible signs gnomes may be living the area, just out of sight.

The Gnome Book brings the ancient and removed to a far-a-way-forest world of gnomes into the cities and towns of the modern child. Re-enchants the familiar. Recommended.

Loes Riphagen provides a delightful look into the world of gnomes with “The Gnome Book,” which will appeal to the entire family.

Featuring Kick the gnome, she brings us into her world, showing us how gnomes live. Kick gives us insight into the makeup of gnomes, like they have four fingers on each hand and different shaped ears depending on what part of the day they are born.

Revealing that not all gnomes live in the woods, Kick shows us her home, school and grandparents’ home who do live in the woods. She teaches us how to make a gnome hat and tells us about disguises gnomes use (“You can also disguise yourself as a garden gnome. Whenever anyone sees you, you have to freeze and stare into space with a dumb expression.”)

We also see how gnomes interact with and use animals and insects to make their lives easier.

Filled with bright, colorful and fun illustrations by the author, readers of all ages will love “The Gnome Book,” which is due out March 4.

Wat een ontzettend leuk prentenboek van Loes Riphagen! Kabouters en andere tot de fantasie sprekende figuren slaan vaak goed aan bij kinderen, zo ook de wereld van kabouters.
Loes Riphagen is er naar mijn idee erg goed in geslaagd om de wereld van kabouters, waar we eigenlijk vrij weinig van weten, zo geloofwaardig neer te zetten dat ze echt overal kunnen zitten en zich toch schuil weten te houden.
Het boek is als een soort informatieboek opgedeeld in allerlei deelonderwerpen, maar die worden verbonden door kabouter Kik en haar familie die op nagenoeg elke plaat te zien zijn. Er zijn ontzettend veel details gestopt in elke plaat waardoor je het eigenlijk wel twee of meer keren móet lezen en bekijken en dat zullen kinderen ook ongetwijfeld willen. Het viel mij persoonlijk op dat er bij elke pagina wel ideeën in me opkwamen om er iets mee te doen in de klas.
Het boek biedt genoeg inspiratie om thuis en in de klas mee aan de slag te gaan. Dit boek is zo rijk dat jong en oud er telkens opnieuw van kan genieten en het heeft de potentie om een klassieker onder de prentenboeken te worden. Zeker een aanrader dus!

Een heerlijke modernere gids over kabouters. Ik herinner me nog het boek over kabouters van Rien Poortvliet en Wil Huygen die mijn ma had, dus ik was erg enthousiast om een modernere/nieuwere/meer gericht op kinderen boek te zien! In dit boek volgen we een kleine kabouter en leren we van alles over haar wereld. Van hoe ze haar naam heeft gekregen (en ik voelde wel voor de kleine kaboutertjes, je eerste woord zal maar Floep of Die of Poep zijn geweest) tot haar familie die blijkbaar naar de stad zijn verhuisd en nu onder/in huizen wonen bij mensen. We lezen over haar dag, over haar omo en opo die op het platteland wonen, over het eten dat ze eten, en meer. Ik moet zeggen ik vond het feit dat ze echt een punthoofd kregen nou niet echt iets dat ik hoefde te zien. Zeg het maar, dat was voor mij genoeg. De illustraties waren echt geweldig. Ik heb dus genoten!

I read The Gnome Book to see if it might be a cute way to inspire interest for a younger child to learn the words that go with the pictures. Safe to say I think I found a story that will start doing that. The illustrations are adorable and so well done, and while the story isn’t going to fascinate the adult who might be reading to said child, it’s simple enough that a child can start sounding out some words and feel accomplished to have done so. Truly more about the pictures, this is a fun one!

As this is a review copy I anticipate this will be resolved by time of publication but this is formatted in a way where I’d not recommend it for kindle until it’s expressly indicated to be ready for that format.

A very whimsical, and incredibly detailed, illustrated children’s book, depicting a day in the life of Kick, a young gnome.

Young Kick introduces us to her family, and shows us around her home, her school, her transportation options, and even what’s in her wardrobe, while dropping some gnome lore on us (gnome heads grow pointy over time - just so you know).

But genuinely, this is a very beautiful children’s book. I can’t overstate how detailed the drawings are - your little ones could spend plenty of time pouring over this book, spotting all of the things that are hidden within each page. It’s been very lovingly put together.

I thought that this was a fun little story and it has some great illustrations.

The story was well written and it is easy to follow and we loved learning more about what it is like to be a Gnome as Kick narrates his story in this book. There were plenty of parts in the book that made me smile and some yuk moments that made me pull a rather different face!

As a mum I really liked the length of the book too as it is a decent length for kids to read.

It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!

Kick is a gnome who wants to share everything about how gnomes live. Gnomes live in cities and villages mostly, between the walls. Kick shows readers how to make their own gnome hat, what clothes they have, and what pet insects they own. They share their collections and their favorite things as well as details about their family, school and life.

Filled with details to pore over, this Dutch picture book gives a humorous glimpse of the life of a tiny gnome that will have young readers glued to the page. Small touches throughout the book award a slow approach and deep reading.

Appropriate for ages 4-6.

Dit boek brengt jeugdsentiment bij me naar boven.
Want vroeger had ik thuis: De oproep der kabouters van Rien Poortvliet, waar ik als klein meisje zo vaak vol aandacht doorheen bladerde.
Het grote kabouterboek van Loes Riphagen is een beetje een nieuwe versie hiervan. Het is erg grappig en fantasievol. Met geweldige details. En ook nog zoekplaatjes (waar is toch steeds het 9e groene beestje?).
Dit is echt een geweldig boek om cadeau te geven aan een kleine kaboutervriend/vriendin. Een boek dat je keer op keer pakt om weer in te neuzen, net zoals ik dat vroeger deed met de klassieker.

Wat een mooi boek. Niet alleen de inhoud maar ook de manier waarop het gebonden is. Er is ook een lintje als bladwijzer aanwezig.

This book is incredibly cute and fun. There is almost an I-Spy quality in the big two page illustration spreads, lots of little treasures to spot! The story is entertaining and goofy, with a very child centered humor, like how Kick, the narrator gnome, has to brush his nose, not his teeth, before bed, or how the gnomes have to watch out for the dangers of a cat peeing on them. The text is overall very sweet, going through what the gnome kids do at school and how the gnome parents and community take care of each other. I will definitely purchase this title for my library!

This children's book gives an inside look at the world of gnomes, as narrated by the gnome Kick, who introduces his extended family and how they live, and then branches out into things like how many toes gnomes have, what their hats mean to them, and how they keep their pets. It's goofy, whimsical and imaginative - and I loved it. The illustrations - with amazing and perfect detail, always something new to discover - perfectly suited the energy of the text. Kick, the gnome, tells the story of, well gnomes. We learn how they get their names, some facts about their anatomies, how and where they live, and more. It’s a cute book with unique fun illustrations. Younger children will enjoy the book and get a laugh about certain things such as the bare butt and the dog peeing on Kick.

Published previously in Dutch and now English (as of March 2025), The Gnome Book is a quirky but adorable look into the lives of gnomes for children. The illustrations are beautiful and my 6 year old son appreciated the many “find it” games throughout (searching for bugs, the paper clip and other items). Probably best suited for a younger audience (4-7).

This book is the cutest! I love the illustrations and all of the tiny details. I think kids would really enjoy learning about a gnome's life (I know I did). I loved all of the arrows with extra information and the labels. I also enjoyed how bits of humor were sprinkled in. I will be purchasing this book for my classroom! I would recommend it for you too!

Felt almost like it was nonfcition! I loved all the small objects and detail put into showing how a Gnome might live. Lots of humor in the book, and covered all things things a kid might wonder about. Shows how a Gnome might live in our world, and use all the things it finds to help it love. Food, clothes, homes, school, transportation. All explained. Cute read for those who like fairies and magical creatures.

Ongelooflijk leuk om bijvoorbeeld nu te weten dat kabouterkinderen met ronde oren Zonnekinderen zijn. Zij zijn namelijk overdag geboren. Dit in tegenstelling tot de Maankinderen ...

Let Kick introduce you to the life of a Gnome. This is a beautifully and cleverly illustrated book with so much potential discussion around the artwork. Kick introduces readers to homes, family, clothes, transport, school and food amongst other things and there are plenty of ideas of thing to make and just the right amount disgusting to keep young readers entertained.
