The Code of the Holy Spirit: Uncovering the Hebraic Roots and Historic Presence of the Holy Spirit

Rate this book
It's time to rethink what you know about the Holy Spirit.

When one of the head rabbis in Jerusalem told Perry Stone that, according to a Jewish tradition, on the Day of Atonement the high priest spoke in a supernatural “language of God,” his interest was piqued, and his heart set out on a journey to discover lesser known details and insights concerning the Holy Spirit.

In The Code of the Holy Spirit Stone shares his discoveries, providing a unique view of the Holy Spirit through the lens of Old Testament writings and Jewish tradition. In addition to revealing the Holy Spirit’s presence throughout the Old Testament--including clues revealed in the Hebrew feasts about the Day of Pentecost--Stone answers questions such as:

·          What is the chemistry of the anointing?
·          What is the significance of the wind and the Holy Spirit?
·          What is the code concealed in the menorah?
·          Can a believer blaspheme the Holy Spirit?

Whether you’ve been taught a doctrine, embarked on your own study of Scripture, observed others operating under the Holy Spirit’s power, or had a personal life-changing experience, this insightful book will give you a deeper understanding of this member of the Godhead than you’ve ever had before.

"There are untapped gifts locked within your mind and spirit that require a key to open the door of possibilities. The Holy Spirit knows the code to your doors, and when you walk into His will and purpose, the impossible will become possible." (Perry Stone, The Code of the Holy Spirit, Page 188)

One of my goals is to know the Holy Spirit intimately, so to do this I require to have knowledge of the Holy Spirit and who He is. This book brought me into a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit.

I found the author jumping around a lot from one topic to another and going off course at times, but overall, there are nuggets of wisdom on the Holy Spirit in this book nevertheless.

One of the things you may have to tolerate with is this author's belief that in order for you be baptized in the Holy Spirit, you require to speak with other tongues. This theology divides Christians and I have known many Pentecostal and Charismatic Christians who look down and think themselves more superior than other Christians that don't speak in tongues.

I believe in the gift of tongues (prayer language), but I don't believe that in order for you to be a "real" Christian, you have to speak in tongues. The verse that this author quotes is when the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost and they all began to speak in other tongues...what the author fails to mention is that they "spoke in tongues and prophesied". So are we to believe that if you don't prophesy that you are not baptized in the Holy Spirit? Paul even said in his epistles..."do all speak in tongues?...do all prophesy?" The answer is a big NO! We are all gifted differently and I believe this theology is incomplete.

I actually speak in tongues, so I do not lack the gift, but I believe the Holy Spirit has revealed to me that it is not required to speak in tongues to be A REAL CHRISTIAN. Many great men and woman of God do not speak in tongues...look at Billy Graham for instance...I don't think he speaks in tongues, but he is a world changer and believes in the Holy Spirit...He even wrote a book on the Holy Spirit, which I highly recommend. In it he acknowledges the gift of tongues, but does not preach the dogmatic theology, you have to speak in tongues to be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Read this book with this in mind..and be sure to take out this leaven.

Most of this book is darn good. I have been a Pentecostal for 17 years and Perry's historical work on the Hebrew roots of the Holy Spirit adds much to my understanding. I've been doing some work on the "tongues of fire" from acts 2:4 for quite a while and here comes Perry's book! Yes, his explanation is better than mine. I was also astonished that a Jewish Rabbis would say what he said - what he said is "BIG" to say the least.
When he gets into women's roles in the church, he does a good job. However I think this has little to do with "The Code of the Holy Spirit" and would be better off in a different book. That's why I gave his book four instead of five stars.
Perry does add a lot of his own experiences as others have said. However I see these added experiences a little differently than the others so far. These added personal experiences add to our understanding of is point. Many Christians do not know the value of mentorship, and keep talking about what they know and do. So many Christians just don't impress me at all because they talk endlessly about what they think they know. I got some advise for ya: sit down, shut up, and listen to some one more experienced than you! Let the Holy Spirit guide you to learn from some one else's experiences on the mater at hand. Be quiet, be still, the Spirit is like a dove and comes and goes like the wind.

In "The Code of the Holy Spirit" Perry Stone shares his discoveries about the Holy Spirit through his study of Old Testament writings and Jewish tradition. He discusses the anointing, the significance of the wind and the Holy Spirit, the dove and the Menorah. He tackles questions about women preachers and blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

If you've ever read Perry Stone's books or listened to his teaching, you know he is thorough in his approach. Usually this has worked well, but with this particular topic, he added too many personal stories and anecdotes that really did not add to the discussion making it tedious to read. The most useful chapter is chapter 12 entitled "How the Holy Spirit Breaks the Spirit of Vexation". If you struggle with being happy and content and you are seeking the peace God offers, this is a chapter with reading.

There are other books written about the ministry of the Holy Spirit that are more beneficial than this one. I can't recommend it.

This is about the best of Perry's books in the past several years. I've been teaching on the Holy Spirit for 40 years and I learned a lot from Perry's research. I highly recommend this read.

This book gave some interesting history on the Charismatic Movement in America. Also I feel like I have a better grasp on how the split between churches took place—the split on policy regarding the exercise of all the gifts. I have felt for a long time now how truly deprived are the non charismatic churches, deprived especially of the gift of prophecy. The prophetic happens in these churches and people will say “I had a word from the Lord,” but there is so much more available to us than that! And of course, the most controversial is speaking in tongues. I like the way this author explains the gift of tongues and how it was used in the early church, who it benefits, and why it hasn’t “gone away.” He includes some wonderful true stories to back up all he says along with the pertinent scriptures.

My favorite thing related to my own book, King Alfred’s English. I point out in my book how the Bible is virtually locked up and kept away from the people for the entire Middle Ages, about 500 to 1500 AD. First, it was locked up in Latin, which was no longer anyone’s native language. Second, Bibles were hand copied, were enormous in size and enormously expensive! No one had one in their home except a few of the extremely rich . Even monks and priests had little access to a Bible. Martin Luther had been in seminary school already over a year before he began reading the Bible itself. The Bible was “complete” for sure but it was certainly not available.

Then the advent of the printing press changes all this. So back to the book here, the author points out that the chief argument non charismatic churches use for not allowing the exercise of all the gifts is that the cannon was now complete and we have the Bible so we don’t need prophecy or tongues (“when the perfect comes, the imperfect will be done away”—1 Cor.) but in reality, the perfect bible had not come in that it was not available to anyone. Only a very few had access to it and even that was limited. It was the printing press that changed all that. So the printing press made the Bible cheap enough for the common person, and it was being translated into their common tongue, and what were the results? Holy Spirit revival! So in reality, the “coming” of the Bible produced more speaking in tongues and more prophetic words being given.

“The Code of the Holy Spirit” by Perry Stone is by far one of the most detailed and descriptive books I have ever read. This provides so much detail and information on the Holy Spirit. Stone is a evangelist and pastor that believes in the theological and doctrinal teachings of the Church of God denomination within the Christian church. Perry Stone uses historical, personal, and scriptural evidence to support the ideals and perspectives that he presents in this book.
Personally this book was a very interesting read to me. This book changes the way you view God, and if you do not believe in the works of the Holy Spirit it very much persuades you to change your way of thinking. I believe that every Christian should read this book to gain a better understanding of the God they believe in and how He works today in the world.

This is a very eye opening book for everyone wondering about The Holy Spirit. The book is well researched and starts at the very roots of who and what He is. The author has obviously been blessed with insight and has traveled and spoken to many people, recalling experiences and encounters across al denominations without bias. I enjoyed reading and learning so many things. In fact, a number of things clicked together for me and while I don't agree with certain assumptions/interpretations, this is a book full of knowledge for those living in the Age of The Holy Spirit.

Perry stone on the Holy Spirit

I enjoy reading Perry Stone due to his understanding of Jewish custom. In his book the code of the Holy Spirit he chronicles the working of the Holy Spirit from the beginning up until now, and by doing such reminds the reader of what it takes to be sensitive to the Spirit, how the Spirit operated both then, and now.
