"A gripping story of three sisters, of love lost and found, and of a family's journey from grief to triumph. A sure winner." - Debbie Macomber, #1 New York Times bestselling author

"Loosely connected to Rossiter's previous novels, this tale is peopled with wonderfully intriguing characters, both two- and four- legged. The story within a story is moving: quite emotional with much sadness, but there's also joy. This truly inspirational tear-jerker will be remembered long after the last page." - RT Book Reviews, 4.5 stars, TOP PICK!

From the back cover:

New York Times bestselling author Nan Rossiter weaves a poignant, empowering novel in which three sisters gather to celebrate their mother's life--and find new inspiration for living their own...

Losing her father on the night she was born could have torn Beryl Graham's family apart. Instead, it knitted them together. Under their mother's steady guidance, Beryl and her older sisters, Isak and Rumer, shared a childhood filled with happiness. But now Mia Graham has passed away after battling Alzheimer's, and her three daughters return to their New Hampshire home to say goodbye.

Swept up in memories and funeral preparations, the sisters catch up on each other's lives. Rumer and Isak have both known recent heartache, while Beryl has given up hope of marriage. But surprising revelations abound, especially when they uncover Mia's handwritten memoir. In it are secrets they never guessed at--clandestine romance, passionate dreams, joy and guilt. And as Beryl, Rumer, and Isak face a future without her, they realize it's never too late to heed a mother's lessons--about taking chances, keeping faith, and loving in spite of the risks...

I have seen pancakes with more dimension than the characters in this book. Everything about this book tries too hard. It tries too hard to be funny and to be tender and to be thought-provoking but doesn't accomplish any of those feats. The behavior of the characters was unbelievable. I say this as someone who recently experienced the death of my mother and going through her things and selling her house with the help of my two sisters. The author's take on grief is extremely juvenile. And the discovery of the mother's other life...again, the characters' behavior was not believable. The story did not create sympathy for Mia. I ended up hating her. Also, I struggled to keep any of the characters straight. They weren't well-developed enough to take on life of their own. One last sticking point--I have never seen so many exclamation points in my life. Okay, so now that that's off my chest...it was an easy read and somehow I kept going, even when I rolled my eyes on every page. So there were some addicting qualities to it. I definitely wanted to know Mia's story. More so than the daughters'. And the recipes in the back bumped up the rating maybe more than they should have, but i thought that was really cute.

A wonderful story of three sisters celebrating their mother’s life.
It was so captivating, that it was hard to put the book down.
The author did such a wonderful job with each character and the dialogue so interesting, that it was never boring.

Sorry didn’t work for me and I wonder if writers are paid to name drop products and manufacturers. Do I really care what type of dog food she feeds her dog or what type of dog bed she has etc.

The story for me was quite predictable, you knew where it was going pretty much from the second chapter. I found that I was able to predict the next chapter with ease.I had trouble with the over explaining of items events, including the incredibly detailed food and beverages.

The one thing the author did correctly describe was the deterioration and slow decline of a typical Alzheimer’s type dementia. But so little time was actually spent on this.

I found the siblings “too sweet” in dealing with the estate etc. I would like to believe everyone is amicable during times of grief but I doubt that really does happen.

To me the book feels incomplete I also would have liked to have known what was in the will and how David moves forward with the daughters as a relationship. Too much cooking and not enough substance.

“Family, Friendship, Faith and Love”

What started out as a joyous Fifth Anniversary celebration at the Chesterfield Inn on a snowy November evening turned into terror, tragedy, and heartbreak for Mia Graham. However, with the tragic event came a precious gift, as Daughter Beryl was born the same night. Mia was now a single Mother and with her Faith and Family to guide her, she raised three strong-willed, beautiful Daughters—all named after Authors—Isak, Rumer and Beryl. We fast forward years later, where the once little girls are now grown women, two married with children and Beryl maintaining their aging Mother’s care as that devil of a disease, Alzheimer’s, slowly erases Mia’s memory until Beryl is no longer able to care for her at home and balance her work schedule at her Mother’s prized tea shoppe, “Tranquility in a Teapot”. Beryl agonizes over placement in a nursing home, but the safety of her Mother is her first priority, especially after frightening situations occur at the house. After a discussion with her Sisters, Beryl decides it is the only logical solution. Sadly, Mia’s health deteriorates more rapidly than she expected, and Beryl is by herself when Mia passes. Her Sisters gather at the homestead, where memories and tears abound and some secrets are unearthed. Who is this David? And what part does Clay Davis play in this unfolding drama? In the midst of it all, Beryl reconnects with Micah Coleman, who used to work in the tea shoppe for her Mother, and a friendship blossoms amidst sorrow. We are also re-introduced to Micah’s parents, Asa and Maddie Coleman, who take Mia’s Daughter, Beryl “under their wing” and who help to show Mia’s family just how loved and respected their Mother was by the whole community. I must say that this book brought back many memories within my own family. I cried right along with Beryl and understood what a horrible monster Alzheimer’s is—as I have said many times, it is a greedy monster with large, gnarled teeth, and once bitten, you cannot unclench its jaws. Your heart will be warmed by Mia’s Daughters’ realizations and of love lost and re-discovered. You will giggle more than a little over sweet, aging Bulldog, Flannery O’Connor’s adventures. You’ll sigh as heartstrings are tugged by Mia’s memoir. I totally agree with Mia’s outlook on life. “Everything happens for a reason, There is no such thing as coincidence—serendipity, yes, coincidence, no. Every event is part of God’s tapestry—one side, the side we see as we stumble through life—looks like a confusing mass of interwoven thread, but, on the other side—the side that God sees, is a radiant, gorgeous work of art.” Beautiful thought isn’t it? If you enjoyed “The Gin and Chowder Club’ and “Words Get In the Way”, you’ll love re-acquainting yourself with the Coleman Family and meeting “The Graham Sisters”. Ms. Rossiter has also graciously provided the yummy recipes for “Apple Crisp” and “Mom’s Sour Cream Coffee Cake” for your recipe file, and if you contact her at www.nanrossiter.com , she will be more than happy to share any of the recipes for the dishes mentioned in the book. Lemon Chicken, Lasagna, etc. Don’t delay, put this heartwarming volume on your TBR list. You won’t be disappointed, just super anxious for her next book! Nancy Narma

Not very good at reviews but i do recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something new to try. Its really well written :)

Finally finished it and i loved it. We have three sisters: Isak,Rumer & Beryl who are dealt with tragic when their mom, Mia passed away. Through out this story we see the love they have for one other and faith they have in each other. While dealing with their moms death, they come across her letters which tells us about her life and how she dealt with her husbands death, raising three girls and falling in love once again. I do believe that things do happen for a reason even though we wish they weren't such tragic events to have to make them happy once more. I'm glad that Isak is going to be happy with her husband even though he had to get in a accident just to prove how much she loves him and doesn't want to lose him. Rumer and Will are now happy when he gets to be a foreman for Tom?(Is that him?) Who he meet at the end of the funeral. Beryl who now has a chance for a happy ending with Micah(I love how they slowly started to fall for each other. Or in this case for Beryl since Micah had a crush on her for a long time) and his daughter Charlotte. I love the part where they spread the ashes over David's garden knowing that their mom would want to be with him even though she has passed on.

OK, disclaimer: I just lost my mother this past year and one of the things that impressed me was how accurate it feels to come together as sisters to go through my mother's house. Admittedly, I did not discover the same tidbits that these sisters did, but my two sisters and I had many moments full of a range of emotions. I enjoyed this window into a similar experience. The joy that celebrated a full life was very much present.
The rest of the book was a terrific read with characters I enjoyed spending time with. I would love another chapter, or two…:-)

More Than You Know by Nan Rossiter
The girls are all back home to attend to their mother's funeral. As they are going through her thing they do find a ring with a card from David. None of them know who he is.
Love how the phrase in the book describes love and is the title. I have a similar one for one of our grandson-to the moon and back and his response is I love you more... Love to hear Micah and Charlottes response as it is so near to ours.
Their personal lives are in turmoil, for the most part as we find out more deeply about each of them.
The story also follows the life of Micah-a local who now runs a bookstore in Quincy, MA. His wife died and he has their daughter Charlotte to care for while living at his parents.
He helps them with more clues of who David is. There are newspaper clippings and I love hearing of the Old Man in the Mountain as I've seen it myself and have traveled there just last year to see what's left.
Love how they all get along, so easy with one another and as they find more clues in the letters she left them. Mia had met David when she worked at the artist colony serving meals. Her burden is a heavy one til the day before he's due to leave the area.
Loved learning so much from this book! I had just read the aviator's wife about the Lindbergh's.
Tragedy strikes the family anf they all rally together. Very detailed descriptions of the places and there are a handful of characters-easy to keep track of them all.
Recipes are included at the end!
I received this book from The Kennsington Books in exchange for my honest review

This was my first book by Nan Rossiter, but I certainly will not be my last. She writes with such heart and soul and love of family.
Three sisters have been brought back together by the death of their mother and while in the midst of preparing to say goodbye to their loving mother, who brought up three little girls after her husband was tragically killed in a accident, her death brings out secrets life they never knew about their mother.

The three daughters find a diary their mother wrote at the start of her battle with Alzheimer's, because she wanted her daughter's to know that life is meant to be for the living, and that you can find love again and that a clandestine relationship with a young artist, teaches the three daughters a lesson the daughters are never to late to learn from their mother, that taking chances, keeping faith and loving in spike of risks. Beryl, Isak and Rumer find renewed faith in themselves, and the men in their lives, that love will blossom again with their mother's lesson.

This book was so very, very wonderful and I give it a 5+ Star rating.

For crying out loud,,,do authors get paid for name-dropping products??? The first sentence,,,North Face and Mini-Cooper. Names of wine, names of OTC medicine,,,on and on. So very irritating. I'm going to get thru this book even tho I am not enjoying the story all that much either.

A sweet, wonderful novel about family. When the matriarch dies, her three daughters come together to plan the funeral. This novel will have you laughing and crying - sometimes in the same paragraph. This is a book you wish you could live in. The family ties, bonding, surprises and emotions. This book has it all, and you'll be sorry to see it end.

Well this is the first book of the New Year and I think I got off to a good start. This is a story of 3 sisters who return to New Hampshire for the funeral of their mother who has died of Alzheimers. Each sister comes home with their own family baggage of difficult marriages and financial woes. The week before the actual funeral as the sisters are going through their mother's things, they find out secrets their mother has kept for years. Each of the sisters react in different ways to what their mother was hiding but in the end her mother and her story bonds the sisters in ways that they never could have imagined.

The story was a fast read and a good contemporary chick-lit type novel but not heavy on the stereotypical chick-lit features. There were no raging love scenes, just building of good honest relationships. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good contemporary fiction novel. 4 stars! I will definitely be reading more of this first time author for me.

Beryl Graham, a spinster in her 40s, loses her mother who had spent the last several years in a nursing home with Alzheimers. Her two sisters return to spend the week in their mother's country home, cleaning it up before the funeral. They spend the week remembering what an incredible woman their mother was and learn some things about their mother that they didn't know. In the process, both sisters repair their ailing marriages and Beryl re connects with Micah whom she had gone to school with and his 4 year old daughter. Truly a five star story and read that reminds us all what incredible women our mothers were.

Once I started this novel, I couldn't put it down! I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I thought there would be too much going on with so many different characters, but the storyline was perfectly written with all the characters alike.
Three sisters try to deal with the loss of their mother. While packing up all her stuff, they find out that she held a secret all these years. Learning about their mother brought not only the sisters closer, but also the families of the sisters.
It was a perfectly written, soul searching, romance in a way that wasn't really a romance. I would highly recommend to anyone!

I was attracted to this book because it is about three sisters who come together upon their mother's death and since I am the youngest of three sisters, of course I was curious. I didn't see parallels between the girls in the book, myself and my sisters, but that didn't matter much. It was a gripping story, well-written, not overly predictable, although the ending was a bit too prettily tied up. I love my sisters, and I like to think we would come together and act as graciously as these girls when the time comes with our Mom.

The Graham sisters reunite for the funeral of their beloved mother. When going through her things they find a memoir of sorts. Though dismayed by what they’ve learned the sisters take to heart the lessons to never take life for granted and to appreciate especially the mundane events of everyday life - timely advice because all three are at crossroads in their personal lives. More Than You Know is a novel of faith and family that will resonate with many readers. I enjoyed it.

so.... I'd like to give this book 2.5 stars. or maybe even 3. I'm waffling. There were several things about this book that I enjoyed. It really made me miss my Mom and think about her life in a bit more depth. I didn't enjoy all of the unnecessary dialogue in the book. I am also not a fan of the predictive "new budding romance" in the book. loved the story and the setting - hated the cliche resolution to basically everything.

I enjoyed this read. I loved the development of the characters and was completely involved with them. The descriptions were rich and you could imagine the setting and feel of the story. Having been in the situation of losing a beloved mother, I could relate to the emotional tone of the book, and even shed a few tears. The ending was completely satisfying. I highly recommend this book for a good read.

This heart warming story is a perfect read for a cold night by the fire... well the cold is here and I wish I had a fire to sit by. One out of two... not bad! This beautiful story is about three sisters who recently lost their loving mother. While packing her belongings; they come across a document left by her in which she tells them about a secret she kept from them. This book is beautifully written and all the characters are well defined. I enjoyed it!

I picked up one book by Nan Rossiter at my local library and enjoyed it immensely. Went back and looked for some of her other books. More Than You Know opens with an unexpected family life change in the prologue, then the story continues about four decades later. Another life change, going through family belongings and an unexpected story line emerges... I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book - good food for thought as sometimes life is “more than you know”!

I don't read much chick lit but it's nice to read a story where everyone gets their happy ending. This was a good story about 3 sisters with very different troubles who all come together for their mothers funeral. I am an only child and it's nice to read about the bond between sisters. I also liked the memoir that their mom wrote about her secret life. It was like a book within a book.

Enjoyed the relationship among the three very different sisters. The story was very personal as my mom died of Alzheimer's as well. What I really found intriguing was the mothers' past life that the three sisters discovered during the packing up of their mothers' house. A long ago love story and a budding love story in one book. Good summer read!

An easy interesting read about three sisters who unite for their Mom's burial. We learn about the lives of each daughter as they begin to go through their Mom's things and discover secrets in a ring and later a memoir. Her secret impacts her daughters in different ways but it is a story of love, family, and faith. The ending is fairly predictable, but it is still a good read.

This is the first Nan Rossiter book I have read but it won't be the last. The story grabbed me from the beginning and held my interest throughout. The ending was a bit predictable, but still enjoyable. I was originally drawn to the book because is am one of three sisters and our mom recently passed away. I cried more than once while reading this book. Would recommend this book.

Excellent Read

I wasn't sure I'd like it when I started, but the further I got into the story, the more attached I became to the characters. Even the mother, who's funeral they are gathered for, becomes of great importance. This book is well worth a quick read - especially if you have sisters.
