It was an entertaining read, but FAR from a good read. This is the 2nd book I've read by the author, and Carolyn McCray's books are kind of like Goosebumps for adults. The books are terribly written, the premises are stupid as hell, but you can't seem to put the book down because you know some part of you is guiltily enjoying the terribleness of it.

Yeah, so I thought the premise of the book sounded interesting - a movie that kills people. The book opens with two boys in line to see a film called Terror in the Trees and there is pandemonium, people smashing windows to escape the building, people rushing outside covered in blood. Something about the film is dangerous...
The book itself then focuses on an FBI agent, Derek, who apparently went through something traumatic involving a girl who died (but this isn't ever really explained). Along with his partner, Derek breaks up an underground showing of Terror in the Trees. The film is confiscated and he has to return it to the studio that is editing the film for national release.
The PR woman at the studio is Jill, who left Derek while he was at their wedding rehearsal (just called, never showed). She left because apparently, she had what she called a great job, but Derek never asked if she was truly happy or some crap like that. He still loves her, she's as shallow as a bottle cap (or something that isn't very deep at all). She is vapid and annoying. It is obvious that the filmmakers know what their film can do, but she wants to defend/protect them because her job is the most important thing EVER!
An intern at the film studio is present for a murder, and he has a theory about how the film kills.
Lots of potential even with Jill, and then the book just goes bat-sh*t crazy. The filmmakers are Druids, and the movie will sacrifice enough to bring back their Druidic god so that they can......

This book was nothing like I expected it to be. In the prologue you have Jake and his friend Drew going to see a movie. Next thing you know, BAM! New characters all around. We are introduced to FBI agent Dereck Boulder, Mitchell the movie geek and Jill the PR lady. This book centers around a movie that is causing havoc in the lives of everyone.
Not much can be said without spoiling the book. There is a lot of blood, guts, gore, sci-fi and old movie characters throughout. The book really had me feeling like I was watching Blair Witch all over again. I'm not a horror movie buff at all. Actually, I don't watch them, the scare the crap out of me. However, I can read a horror book and not be bothered...go figure!
This book was interesting in the way it evolved. I can't say it was my favorite...they all can't be. I do feel though that it just may be introducing new characters in the next book, "All Hallow's Eve: The one night it is BAD to be good..."

For authors I've never heard of before, this is a book I had a hard time putting down. I enjoyed the twist to it and hope to see more from them.

good read. Very Call of Cthulhu ish. Incredibly cheesy ending almost ruined it for me though.

I didn't really enjoy this one, started off pretty decent but just faded away. The two main characters, Derek & Jill annoyed the hell out of me but there were some good laughs along the way. The type of book that's good when commuting.
