این کتاب نه تنها بحث عامه‌پسندی را در سینما بررسی می‌کند، که خلاصه‌ای از بسیاری از بحث‌های پیرامون مفهوم عامه در سایر مدیوم‌های علوم انسانی هم ارائه می‌کند.
آموختم که تمایز بالا و پایین برای تحلیل فرهنگ عامه کافی نیست. یعنی بجای اینکه مدام از تاثیری ایدئولوژی فرهنگ پاپ بر مردم سخن گفته شود، خوب است به برعکس آن هم توجه شود؛ یعنی شاید مردم با هنر عامه دارند مقاومت می‌کنند در برابر فرهنگ بورژوایی. و نیز اینکه این میل به مضامین پاپ، لابد رفع‌کننده‌ی نیاز و تمنا و آرزوی مردم است، که باید بررسی شود.

چیزی که میتونم بگم اینه که حداقل ترجمه‌شده‌شو پیشنهاد نمیکنم. ترجمه اصلا روان نیست، برگردان‌های عجیب و غریب توش دیده میشه و طبق معمول سانسور هم شده. احتمالا انگلیسیش خوندنیتره.

از کتابهای بسیار خوب با ترجمه ی خوب در زمینه ی مطالعات سینمایی. میتونه در کنار نظریه ی فیلم رابرت استم و تئوری های اساسی فیلم دادلی اندرو قرار بگیره.
