Timothy "Tim" William Burton is a prolific American film director/writer, best known for the dark imagery and quirky nature of his popular films. He is also the author and illustrator of the poetry collection "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories."
Okay, I may be slightly biased here given my love of all things Burton and the fact this is my (very close) second favourite film of his but this is a great little book that take stills from the film and turns them into this fabulous portable, read it anywhere version (should you need a Frankenweenie hit away from electronica). It captures the sadness and joy of the story and the gorgeousness that is Sparky and the rest of Burton's characters and imagery.
Is it silly that this book made me cry? I cried because it reminded me of my love for my dog. Very cute book with humor sprinkled throughout to help mitigate the side effects of the sad heart squeeze.
When it comes to films created by Tim Burton that you absolutely love it because it has this strange vibe that everyone likes. So Frankenweenie it is loosely based on Frankenstein. Anyway, Victor owns a dog named Sparky but when Sparky got hit by a car that Victor wanted him back again. Dead or Alive. Worth the read and it'll make you cry at some point because when we lose our pets that we want them back in our lives. However, we cannot bring them back from the dead and the only thing we can do for them is to never forget them. That's all.
This book is about Victor Frankenstein who is a science nerd and outsider at school. He does have one good friend called Sparky(his dog). But then, tragedy strikes, and Sparky shuffles off this mortal coil. Victor is heartbroken, but his science teacher gives him an idea of how to make old Sparky back to life. The experiment worked , and all goes well, but then Victor's fellow students steal his secret and use it to restore other dead animals with monstrous consequences.
EN: I risk being a bit unfair with this book... Let me explain why.
Darker and more fantastical themes are always something I enjoy, especially when they have Tim Burton’s signature style. This was a book that had been on my reading list for a while, and I had some expectations about it...
Well, what I didn’t consider was that it would be written as a story for the younger (which I should have expected, I know, but I didn’t think of it beforehand). And that’s where I might be unfair, giving a less positive review since I’m not the target audience for this book.
It wasn’t a terrible book, far from it, but it doesn’t offer any real complexity in the writing. It also loses a bit of the surprise factor when you’ve already seen the movie, though I watched it many years ago.
Still, I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys this genre and appreciates everything Tim Burton creates.
I just love Tim Burton's creations. I have lost count of how many times I've watched his movies. This comic is very loyal to the movie "Frankenweenie", the illustration is the same and so is the aesthetic.
It is really interesting how Burton adapted Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" to create a very original story, a boy trying to bring his dog Sparky back to life. Instead of the tragic ending, here we are able to see the most important missing part that Shelley wanted readers to notice in her story: love and dedication to the ones that are important to us.
It seems that Tim Burton really got Mary Shelley's message and imprinted it in his works.
P.D. I love dogs with my whole soul. And of course, the movie touched my heart.
PB 20: I read the "cinematic storybook" of this book. I chose this because I love Tim Burton's work and since this is going to be a movie, I decided to read it. The artwork is phenomenal because the way he uses darks and lights to compliment each other is amazing. The picture book however is fantastic because of it's simplicity but deep meaning of friendship. Especially because usually more often than not kids long for a dog or a pet. In addition, the devastation that comes with losing a friend is so powerful in this book. Loved it!
Based on the animated film that is Directed by Tim Burton which is the remake of the 1984 live action 30 minute film about a dog who gets hit by a car and his owner decides to being him back from the dead while avoiding his parents and the rest of the town on finding out that Sparky is alive. This was a good graphic novel adaptation of the film but wish this version of the novel that could had been a little longer with some changes between film and book. Not for anyone who can't stand the Gothic subject matter of neither book and film but only for Tim Burton fans!
70 page graphic novel, probably about 3rd grade and up. Based on the Tim Burton/Disney movie Frankenweenie. Tim Burton style graphics.
Victor is a shy boy whose best friend is his dog, Sparky. When Sparky is hit by a car and dies, Victor turns to science to try to reanimate him. Other kids find out what's going on and mayhem ensues.
The scenes are straight from the movie, so if you've seen the movie and didn't enjoy it, you won't like this. However, if you did like the movie, or have not watched it, you may enjoy this gothic story about a boy who loves his dog.
