During a recent trip to Europe (Sep/Oct 07) we visited Mauthausen concentration camp (had seen it on a video of the area hightlights)in Austria. OMG--what a horrible place to be imprisoned!! Prior to visiting here, we had also been to Normandy, of D-Day fame. I think the first words I said, after seeing the camp, were "THIS is WHY there was a D-Day!!" If you have read, or remember "Diary of Anne Frank" the boy, Peter, was sent to Mauthausen when they were arrested but died just a few days before the camp was liberated.
We also visited Anne Frank's hiding place in Amsterdam, also a must see if you go. If anyone is interested, I do have pics of this camp, which is undergoing renovation at the present time.
