The Tom and Elizabeth will they won’t they situation is dragging on a bit now. As is Winnie’s hazing farce *roll eyes* But will I stop reading? Hell naw. Book 4 here I come.

The hazing storyline and the BSU/racism storyline had some good lessons, though they were certainly watered down, never getting too close or too deep. Today’s YA books are dumbed down in this manner, which is a good thing, IMO. These books touched on serious topics, but did not give teens enough credit by refusing to discuss them in a more honest way.

Have to admit I’m still reading the series because I’m interested in the Tom/Elizabeth/William Nina/Bryan and Winston/Denise romances. They are total cliches in every sense of the word. Still want to know what happens regardless. No longer interested in Jessica or Celine’s storylines at the moment.

This novel is where the "old Sweet Valley" started to click for me again. The plot flowed better and the characters started to feel more complex in actions, reactions, thoughts etc. The authors also found a better rhythm in who should be the POV when and where, making the transitions between scenes feel less jarring.

Yikes. Like the same 4 scenes recycled again and again and again. And who edited this?! Countless random letters or symbols where a space should be. Truly atrocious this went to print in this state.

After seeing each Sweet Valley friend settled into their new college habitat, the drama begins! That was a hint to read books one and two first.

Sorority pledging, fraternity hazing, a university scandal, and two bad-news boys--what more can you ask for? Another exciting read that gives you just enough to send you cruising your local used bookstores in search for Book Four. I love this series, and I love the drama that transports me right back to my own college days. Anyone who's ever hid their college activities from their parents should check it out; the SVU gang is irresistible. Just one bit of advice, though: just read them in order, don't read the synopsis blurb on the back of the books. It gives too much away!

General Review for series as I cannot remember each novel.

I read Sweet Valley University when I was in junior high school to high school. While there is sexual content it is very mild (not explicit) compared to teen books today. If you like the Sweet Valley High you will love this series as it continues with the twins' story as they attend University and are away from their parents. I am not sure how they would relate to teens today as this was before cell phones were common and social media. They are fun teen romances with "real-life" situation. I did not complete the series as I started to save for school so I wasn't able to collect them any further (they are out of print). I still have the books I bought and may try to read one again (I did reread the series a few times).

Jessica has moved in with Mike McAllery, which angers her brother, Steven Wakefield, who lives in the apartment above him with his girlfriend, Billie. He thinks that Mike is a "wildman" and that Jessica doesn't know what she's getting into. In a rather prophetic tirade, he makes comments about how she "might even be stupid enough to get married". In early Sweet Valley University, Steven appears to fill the role of Ned (well, a Ned who pays attention to his children) with unfortunate results. After an...incident involving impersonating her identical twin at the bank, Jessica gets a job at the coffee shop, while at the same time pledging Theta. William has a creepy crush on Elizabeth.

Liz is considering dating William White, even though she’s obsessed with Tom Watts who is “Wildman Watts” and while Jess is CLEARLY in an abusive relationship, it’s somehow more shocking that Liz just keeps finding THE WORST guys. I mean, Todd ends their relationship before they even get to foreplay because Liz hasn’t had any kind of intercourse before, and she’s not ready for sex. It’s deeply concerning that everyone just yells at Jess (I don’t mean Izzie, cause Jess deserved that, I mean Steven et al) because that’s just not what you do to an abuse victim. Jfc.
