Also writes Young Adult under Rachel Hawthorne, Jade Parker, and with her son as J.A. London.

Lorraine Heath has always had a soft spot for emotional love stories. No doubt because growing up, watching movies with her mom, she was taught that the best movies "won't half make you cry."

She is the daughter of a British beauty (her mom won second place in a beauty contest sponsored by Max Factor® during which she received a kiss from Caesar Romero, (the Joker on the original Batman TV series) and a Texan who was stationed at Bovingdon while serving in the air force. Lorraine was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England, but soon after moved to Texas. Her "dual" nationality has given her a love for all things British and Texan, and she enjoys weaving both heritages through her stories.

When she received her BA degree in psychology from the University of Texas, she had no idea she had gained a foundation that would help her to create believable characters—characters that are often described as “real people.” She began her career writing training manuals and computer code for the IRS, but something was always missing. When she read a romance novel, she became not only hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She's been writing about them ever since.

Her work has been recognized with numerous industry awards including RWA's RITA®. Her novels have appeared on bestseller lists, including USA TODAY and the New York Times.

The author of more than 60 novels, she writes historical and contemporary romance for adults and historical romance for teen readers.

Under the names Rachel Hawthorne and Jade Parker, she writes popular contemporary, historical, and paranormal romance for teens readers. She also writes young adult novels with her son under the name J. A. London.

Lorraine Heath is one of my favorite historical romance authors so I’m not sure why I haven’t yet read the Lost Lords of Pembrook series. Well, after this delightful holiday novella, I assure you, I’m going to remedy that right away!

Deck the Halls With Love is such a wonderful story! It has all the things I hope for in my holiday reading; romance, passion, humor, redemption… and most important of all, that special kind of magic found only at Christmas.

I’m so looking forward to reading this series, start to finish!

Many thanks to Avon Books and Edelweiss for providing me with a copy of this book for review. It’s a lovely story and I enjoyed every minute of it!

60 páginas son muy pocas para desarrollar una historia.
Un breve relato con pasión contenida, algunas frases bonitas y un romance muy bonito. Pero poco más da de sí.
Con Navidad de fondo, para las que os guste de leer algo bonito en estas fechas.

Lady Meredith Hargreaves spent a season flirting heavily with Alistair Wakefield, the Marquess of Chetwyn before he proposed to another. Except his fiance dumped him for another man, and now she's engaged to a slimeball, so obviously it's time for some romantic intervention!

As a novella, it was just what I was looking for: short, to the point, and semi-sweet. I could have done with a bit more development of the history between Merry and Chetwyn, and I also could have done without the casting of Merry's fiance as a sleaze. And also having sex on a pile of moldering drapes sounds completely awful from a cleanliness standpoint.

As expected from a story that only has 7 chapters, it was quite rushed but it wasn’t that bad. I liked the hero and heroine.

The only issues were

1) the story started off with them in the present, and while there was a past between them, it was only mentioned briefly that they liked each other and the hero courted the heroine before throwing her over. It would be good if the past was more elaborated and for us to see the development of feelings between them.
2) the heroine was too easily won over by the hero. She basically lost the battle whenever he kissed her.

3) I expected the heroine’s ex fiancée to make a fuss about the heroine not wanting to marry him but he only threatened her and didn’t do anything. Anticlimactic.

4. Because it is a short story, we didn’t really get a good understanding of what kind of people the hero and heroine is. I only know that the hero is honorable (In terms of keeping the promise to his brother) and kind (preventing the heroine from a scandal by avoiding being found with her alone). And the heroine.. I don’t know much about her.

Nevertheless, it was a nice read to pass the time.

Deck the Halls with Love is a novella part of Lorraine Heath’s The Lost Lords of Pembrook series which I binged and loved last month. This is a second chance, snowed in (at an abandoned castle!) historical romance with a Marquess and an Earl’s daughter, and this charming read had my attention from the premise!

Lady Meredith Hargreaves gave her heart away to Alistair Wakefield, Marquess of Chetwyn, only to have it shattered when he proposed to another. But when things don’t go as planned and he’s free to pursue her once again, Meredith is the one on the way to the altar…

Memorable moments: He steals a dance at a ball, calls her “Merry”, seeing Tristan and Anne from book 2 of the series (Lord of Temptation), a billiards room bet, ice skating on a frozen pond, snowstorm forces them to stay in an abandoned castle overnight, a kiss in the middle of a ball, all the Christmasy moments!

Very short, but I enjoyed it very much. Now I have to go back and reread the second book of this trilogy to see if I was perhaps too harsh.

I barely remember Chetwyn from that book, although he played a major role. I do recall being annoyed at the ending though, and thinking it was contrived and senseless. This story gives it sense and explains Chetwyn's motivation.

Meredith is a lovely heroine. She came around to the hero's side of things in an organic way and I never felt like she was silly or insipid.

This story is perfect if you have a break and you want to get through something from start to finish. It's a reminder of why I love so many of Lorraine Heath's stories (and I always forgive her for the duds).

And the excerpt for the third installment of the Lost Lords of Pembroke trilogy really caught my interest. Can't wait for that one either. :)

I didn't think LH was going to be able to make me like Alistair. After all he gave Merry the kiss off in order to ask for Lady Anne's hand in marriage. This was due to some twisted guilt induced logic that Alistair applied after receiving a lost letter from his dead brother. But of course as we know, Anne chose Lord Tristan and now Alistair is free to pursue his true love, Merry. But all is not fair in love or war and Merry is set to marry a jerk after Christmas. So Alistair has got just a few days to convince Merry of his sincerity of his love. As well as convince her that he is a boneheaded male in his thought processes and needs her love to set him right. Alistair does convince me of his sincerity and I was rooting for them both in the end. Sweet read. :-)

A while back, I won a mystery box of books. I passed along several of them, but held onto this slender historical holiday romance novella. The author is one I've meant to try for a while so I leaped into Deck the Halls of Love with pleasure.

Deck the Halls With Love is #2.5 in a series and features two characters who were side characters in earlier books.

I knew this was only seventy short, quick pages so a lot had to happen quickly. Chetwyn is free of his own fiance to pursue Lady Merry, but she is currently engaged. Sounds like he'll have to give in gracefully. And, he plans to if she's truly in love. But, then he discovers her fiance is a gambler and in debt so set up the engagement with a compromise to get her dowry. Poor Lady Merry! Chetwyn has no true obstacle to his second chance.

I hadn't read the earlier books, but I got the gist of things and, once I saw that Litton was after Merry's dowry, I was fine with cheering on Chetwyn to get to it and make them both happy after he was an idiot the first time around. A light and quick Victorian holiday season romance hit the spot.

I have to admit that I didn’t think about the Marquess of Chetwyn being hero of his own story when I read him in Lord of Temptation. He was marrying Anne out of a sense of duty, because it was his brother’s dying wish, and he treated her like a piece of property, pushing his wants and needs on her. So, needless to say, his character at that time didn’t endear him to me, even in the end when he became a gentleman – too late in my eyes. But as usual, Lorraine Heath is able to turn that character around and make him hero material. I suddenly love Lord Chetwyn.

What I didnt read into Chetwyn’s scenario in Lord of Temptation is though he was coerced into marrying Anne, he didn’t make me feel it was an undue hardship for him. In reality, he felt guilty over his brother’s death, thus would do anything to make up for the fact he hastened his sibling’s demise, no matter how unknowingly that may have been. What we also find out in this book is that Chetwyn has been in love with Lady Meredith since the first time he laid eyes on her. He courted her the prior year, knowing he’d ask for her hand. That’s when the letter from his late brother arrived, much later than usual because it was hand delivered. So he reluctantly but nobly left Meredith behind to wed Anne.

Now Meredith is betrothed to Lord Litton, a man whom she feels will suit. She’s obviously settling, because the one she loves suddenly left her pining away. When Chetwyn begins to slowly pursue her once again, Meredith has to steel her heart against him; she can’t allow that delicate organ to break again. She wouldn’t survive it. But as adamant she is about ignoring Chetwyn’s attentions, he is just as adamant in finding her alone to work his charms on her and perhaps encourage her to change her mind about marrying someone else.

It’s not until they’re caught in a snow storm that Meredith relents, and what a lovely scene this is all the way around. Their lovemaking is sweet and tender and their parting is the same, with Chetwyn refusing to ruin Merry’s reputation, though that would guarantee getting him what he wants. He loves her that much, and that’s when I fell in love with him myself. I enjoyed Meredith’s test of Litton, setting her free to do what her heart desires. And Chetwyn’s proposal is romantic and heartfelt, lovingly done.

As I learned when Ms. Heath turned Stephen from her London’s Greatest Heroes series into a hero in Pleasures of a Notorious Gentleman, garnering my love for him with only one page, when I started reading this novella, I knew Chetwyn would suffer the same fate. She’s one of those authors who can pull emotion out of a reader even in a novella, nearly as well as she does in full-length form. The feeling of Christmas is present in this holiday story, the ball where Chetwyn begins his pursuit, the snow, ice skating on a frozen pond, and lovemaking in front of a roaring fire all come together to give you the joy of Christmas spirit.

Though Amazon is listing this book to be released January of next year, Ms. Heath has announced it was released yesterday. I’m hoping that’s the case, because this is a lovely, warm story to romance up your holiday. It also gets you in gear for the next book in the series, which should be out later in 2013. So be sure to get your copy as soon as you can!

This was an absolutely lovely holiday novella! It features a secondary character from the previous book in the series (Lord of Temptation), Alistair Wakefield, the Marquess of Chetwyn. After letting his fiance choose her own path to happiness, Alistair is determined to get back the love he lost as a result, the lovely Lady Meredith Hargreaves...who is unfortunately engaged to another. Sneakily cutting into a dance with her, he expresses his desire to be with her and it causes just enough confusion for Merry to start to reconsider her choices. Throw in some billiard lessons, ice skating and a snowstorm and you get a magical rekindled romance! Alistair is such a wonderful hero...kind, generous, passionate and considerate of Merry and her choice for her own path. Merry is determined to not let the man who broke her heart have it again but being stuck in an abandoned home forces them to talk and she sees the truth of Alistair and how far he is willing to go to protect her and let her lead the life she wishes. Overall, a delight and a perfect holiday treat! 4 stars

Ini cerita Natal ttg Cinta Lama Bersemi Kembali (CLBK).

Lady Meredith sempat menaruh hati pada Alistair, Marquess of Chetwyn. Sayangnya Chetwyn melamar wanita lain.

I pretty much never read novellas and I wasn't even aware that this one wasn't a full novel until I went to read the downloaded version on my nook. Lorraine Heath is one of my favorite historical romance authors, though, so I decided to give this one a chance and see what she could give me in only 50 pages.

Surprisingly, Lorraine was able to pack yet another enticing historical romance into such a short amount of pages. Chetwyn had left Meredith when their spark of passion was just being discovered in order to honor his brother's dying wish. But now that he's single and back to seeing Meredith more and more in society, Chetwyn realizes just how much of an amazing person Meredith is. After being caught kissing Litton in the gardens, though, Meredith is now engaged to be betrothed on the day after Christmas, much to Chetwyn's dismay. Chetwyn has to find a way to win Meredith's heart back before it's too late.

Like I said before, I was so shocked by how much romance and passion Lorraine was able to squeeze into 50 pages. The story definitely left me wanting much more, but I kind of enjoyed how fast paced things were. Historical romances tend to drag on for well over 300 pages of cat and mouse games, so it was refreshing to have a story with only a few back and forth feelings before you got down to the heart of the romance. And Chetwyn is definitely a main character that made you understand why a girl could fall for him in that short of a time frame.

Overall, this novella was a short and sweet read that's perfect for the holiday season. I read it during a car ride on the way to celebrating Christmas with some family, so it was a great holiday read for the mood of the day. If you want a read that's not too long but the perfect dose of holiday romance, definitely check out Deck the Halls With Love!

Deck the Halls With Love features a delightful second chance romance set at Christmastime.

In her first season Lady Meredith Hargreaves fell for Alistair Wakefield, the Marquess of Chetwyn, only to have him offer for another. Now that she's on the verge of accepting a betrothal, and Alistair is once again free, Alistair has been trying to pursue Meredith once again. But Meredith refuses to be swayed by his attempts to charm her. However when the pair find themselves stuck in an abandoned castle during a snowstorm, old feelings become impossible to ignore.

Meredith and Alistair's relationship ended poorly the first time around as Alistair left her and proposed to someone else to fulfill his brother's dying wish. After learning why Alistair called things off with Meredith I understood as his love for his brother compelled him to follow his wishes, but I didn't like that he didn't tell Meredith why he was calling things off leading her to believe it had something to do with her. Meredith does make Alistair work to get back in her good graces which I was happy with. I really enjoyed the scenes where they were stuck at the castle, the chemistry between them in those scenes was great.

Overall Deck the Halls With Love was an enjoyable read and I definitely need to check out the rest of the series at some point in the future.

Lorraine Heath is the best.

I've been in a real reading funk lately. I simply haven't found anything that grabbed my attention. I bought Lisa kleypas's new novel. I love LK! What historical romance reader doesn't love LK? Not to mention I've waited YEARS for this book. Started it. Stuck on page 17. Wth? Something's wrong....

In a last ditch effort to get out of this funk, I bought this novella by Lorraine Heath. Thank goodness for LH!!!! This tale immediately hooked me. I truly enjoyed every minute. She has yet to let me down.

This is a romantic and sweet quick read. I'm looking forward to starting Heaths newest release.

One of the rare romances by Lorraine Heath that is just mediocre. I felt the story lacked the author's usual, emotive writing: the passion and angst that make her stories compelling. Part of the blame also lies with the short length. Exploring Alistair and Maddie's previous relationship in flashback form might have helped to give the story more depth. But as it stands, the romance seemed underdeveloped as did the Christmas setting (the dance they danced together at could have happened on any occasion). The protagonists were likable but they too, like the story, did not leave a deep impression on me.

After reading Lord of Temptation, I found myself more intrigued by the future Lord Chetwyn than even the next Lost Lord of Pembrook. So I was really excited to see that Ms. Heath wrote a holiday novella focused on him. Overall, I liked this sweet story about getting a second chance at love. I continue to adore Chetwyn, but I wasn't as fond of Meredith. I liked her, but never felt like I got to know her enough to really make an opinion. Like most novellas, I was disappointed by the short length of this story. I would love to have seen a full-length story about these characters.

I LOVE Lorraine Heath's books so much, and this novella is no exception. I adore her characters because they are cleverly thought out and interesting, and her writing style is so witty and romantic! This was an adorable and simple Christmas tale of romantic misunderstandings and 19th century scandal. I loved every second of it and hope that she writes more Christmas stories for me to enjoy. If you already love her books, definitely read this one!

Meh. this was pretty boring. I know it's a novella but both the characters were so dull and I don't know why they were in love. And the sad part is Merry seemed like a really great character conceptually but man the execution wasn't great.

Another Regency romance Christmas novella that I'd really like to rate 3.5 stars, but am rounding it up to 4 because it's Christmas and I've got the holiday spirit.

I just finished reading this last night, and I've already forgotten the names of the leading lord and lady. So that pretty much sums up this story, haha. It was a cute Christmas tale, set at a house party at Christmastime.

Boy meets girl and feels instalove during the Season, boy and girl go to their homes out of town, boy gets life changing news and sacrifices self and love for what he sees as his duty, girl is crushed but bravely hides it, boy is miraculously let off hook for said duty (the story of which I assume is either book 1 or 2 in this series), boy tracks down girl at Christmas house party to try to make amends even though girl is already engages to someone else (who is rather slimy, actually).

There's the requisite trapped away from the main house in a snow storm trope. I wanted to like Meredith, actually, and how she loves sports and the out of doors but is kept from them for propriety's sake. I just didn't feel like I really got to know her, likely because of the very short nature of this story. There was nothing bad about this book, there just wasn't anything spectacular or surprising about it. It was a nice little Christmas read.

Definitely spoilers for earlier books in the series.
Available as a stand alone or as part of the A Christmas to Remember anthology.
