Andy Warhol by Mike Venezia falls under the biography genre and is intended for children 5-9 years of age. It has not won any awards. This book takes you through the life of the famous artist, Andy Warhol, from his childhood to his rising fame and all the way up to his death. It includes paintings done by Warhol himself, and also fun little illustrations made by Mike Venezia to go along with the text. I gave this book a four-star rating because it was a pretty fun and easy read. Mike Venezia has a knock for making fun and interesting biographies. It was filled with color and amazing little facts about Andy throughout his entire life. I chose to do the Andy Warhol biography by Mike Venezia because as often as I hear his name, I did not know much about him or who he was. I had no idea he was the one that came up with Campbell's Soup logo! It was a very cute book that taught you a lot about the artist and now I know more about him than I did ever before. The book also included real paintings he had drawn and Mike Venezia's illustrations added a nice touch also. I think this would be a great book for young children especially as they start learning about art and how to paint. It was a simple enough text for beginner readers to be able to read through the pictures and the colors would be intriguing to anyone who would be listening to it as it was being read.
In working on my book on Susan Sontag, I've become fascinated by children's books about Andy Warhol who has both a childlike quality, particularly noticeable as Pop Artist and a childlike sensitivity, but also a scandalous life that is inappropriate for children. This one captures the right tone and does a nice job with its story and illustrations.
Andy Warhol. The name is known in the art world for bringing us the infamous Campbell's Soup. And for helping to bring the term Pop Art to light.
This title tells the reader a back story about Andy, a brief look into his childhood where, at a young age Andy had a natural talent for art, & about his medical condition that made his skin pale, which presented us the Andy we all know.
We are told of how Andy got his job at Glamour magazine in New York after graduating from Carnegie Institute of Technology. Having his mother move in with him after the passing of his father; having both his mother & friends help out with projects and creating The Factory.
This book is both for adults & children who are already fans of or budding fans of Andy. The text presented is large enough for beginner readers and accomplished ones. A great addition to any Andy library.
This is a great book because it is very informational; it describes the accomplishments of a great artist, Andy Warhol, from his early years until he died. The book includes facts on his art and the unique touch that made him rich and famous. The book is also very colorful and eye catching which is sure to grab children’s attention.
Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists, Andy Warhol is another nice edition in this fantastic collection by Mike Venezia. These books are perfect for exposing elementary and junior high aged students to a large variety of artists and styles of art.
