If you enjoyed the first book, you're going to love this one even more.

In the wake of the disastrous events of Shadow of Gorgon, the murderous lesbian polycule continue their shenanigans, with the fate of the organization--and their relationship--on the line. Dragons, dryads, fae, necromancers, clones, you name it--this book has it all, but rather than feeling cheap or silly, it just...works.

The relationship becomes very interesting here, because one is a clone who's largely the same but not the same as the dead character they replaced, and the others are still processing their grief, and none of them knows how to feel about the situation. Keeping in mind, these are characters whose relationship was born in violence and may end in violence at any moment. And another of them gets , then by the clone, so complications abound and will no doubt continue into the next book (we are left with an excellent cliffhanger).

The writing is excellent, and the plot--well, let's just say I was less invested in the larger action plot and more invested in the relationship plot. The plot is fine--good, even--but by the time we get to the big action finale, the characters overcame the plot, which is admittedly a bit complicated and thus a trifle confusing at times. But no matter--by the end, things were made clear, and the few bits I'd missed along the way didn't matter so much.

What mattered was the fun I'd had reading, good, chewy, insightful, fanciful fun. Exactly what I'm looking for in a book about a murderous magical lesbian polycule running a clandestine global mercenary assassin organization.

It was really cool to see how the events of Book 1 of the Gorgon book shaped the characters in this Book 2. I loved seeing how the characters progressed, and I adored the new characters. It is also really fun trying to unravel what is going on in the background of Gorgon.
