Always a fan of romantic fiction, I've always been in love with the alpha-male. So in love, I've never been quite satisfied with the restrictions of series romance. I like to get into a guy's mind and have him do or say exactly what he's feeling at the moment, and sometimes I shock even myself! I consider my stories soft erotica; one man, one woman, heterosexual. But since abiding love is always the happy ending I'm looking for, my couples are always monogamous. My guy would never share his woman with anyone, and she is always enough to satisfy him. Since I believe that love starts with lust, my stories are always highly sexual, explicit in nature, and hopefully totally satisfying to my readers. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.

John is a true Alpha Male. Way OTT. Too controlling. He wants something and he will get it come hell or high water.

I have read some of Lynda’s other books and yes, her Male Hero is usually tall, dark, grouchy, in charge – personally I love to read a book like this every now and again. Would I like such a person in real life – doubt it – but that’s what books are there for, for us to escape our reality and delve into our imaginations ….

He fully admitted to himself that he was unsocial. He flat-out didn’t enjoy people. Didn’t care for large crowds, didn’t like small talk of any kind.

Usually he wasn’t quite so picky, just wanting a quick lay. But tonight, for reasons he didn’t care to analyze, not one single woman looked to be fuck-worthy.

Real nice, John!!

He was beyond arrogant; he was beyond egotistical. He was infuriating, maddening, totally beyond the pale, and way, way too sexy for his own good. ….. conceited, controlling, obscene and unrefined. And evidently she was the stupidest woman alive because she was seriously considering starting something with him.

Naw, Sarah, not stupid. Would do the same myself.

And I got my

Seriously, every book should have one…..

Sarah's Surrender was an alright read. Though the main reason I found it alright was because of John. I found him quite interesting, hot and a little bit...crazy? It kinda worked for him, I think. Though if anyone had put that shit up with me, my hand would be meeting his face quite fast. Sarah was just...there. There was nothing special about her, nothing that made me love her as a woman, but John needed a female character so it might as well be her.
“I’m not crazy. You’re wet for me already, hon. If you think for one second I’m going to let some guy in Dallas dictate to me, you’re insane.”

The story was nothing out of the ordinary. I've read plenty of books like this, but I kinda knew it when I started reading it, however I just wanted something simple, and simply and easy I got. Nothing really happened, expect us getting to know the characters sexually and how they act with each other. As I said: a simple story. Not really complaining though.
He wanted to fuck her. Nothing more, nothing less.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - Contemporary Romance
Series: - Standalone Series
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Not sure... what she written more than this series?
Would I recommend this book/series? - Yes, if you like a quick read if insta-lust and a possessive alpha male.
Will I read this again in the future? - No.
Rating - 3 stars.

Sarah’s Surrender first caught my eye as I was looking over the bestselling books on New York Times. Many more indie and self-published authors are making this list, which means they’re selling thousands of copies in a week. As for the actual number sold in order to make the New York times, specifically the best selling ebook list, that’s a bit of a mystery. I’ve heard the minimum is 8,000 in order to be in the top 20, but then I’ve heard 15,000 must be sold in one week. Regardless of the amount, when a book hits the New York Times, it’s a big deal.

One such self published author, Lynda Chance has made the New York Times and USA Today with Sarah’s Surrender, a 165 page romance being sold at $2.99. The reviews for this one have been mixed, mainly because of the questionable actions of the hero regarding the heroine, but after reading the first chapter, I was interesting enough in buying the book.

What a mistake that was.

Sarah’s Surrender annoyed me to no end. What we have here is another stereotypical, rich, brooding cavemen alpha hero who lays claim to the innocent, almost annoyingly naïve heroine who tells the hero no with both words and her body, but the hero doesn’t care. Christine Feehan’s heroes come to mind (and I don't mean that as a compliment) when I think of John Garrett, the multi-millionaire rancher of some sorts who has a big chip on his shoulder based on the way he's written. John is peeved because he feels he has to keep giving out hand outs to every charity case in the area, including help making his town a better place. John is not a happy man and prefers to live a hermit lifestyle, but can’t because he has sexually needs that have to be taken care of. He doesn’t have a high opinion of the female race because of his spoiled and faithless hussy of an ex-wife. We know all of this because Lynda falls back on the not so successful way of allowing the reader into the character's mind to info dump and explain about the motivations of that character. She does this with John so the reader can gain sympathy for his situation. Unfortunately the more we know John’s internal musing, the more annoying he is and how unstable and almost psychotic his thoughts are that lead to disturbing actions he imparts when it comes to the heroine.

The heroine is Sarah McAlister, a school teacher from Dallas who is on vacation. She has come back to this podunk town where she spent time with her grandparents and has fond memories. She has left behind her boyfriend, a safe and kind man who wants to marry her. Sarah is thinking of marrying her safe and kind boyfriend because he’s the total opposite of her ex-husband who was over the top controlling and possessive. How do we know this? Because Sarah tells the reader from her internal thoughts. Sarah stops for gas and that’s where she meets John. Since Sarah doesn’t have any idea how to pump her own gas, John takes over and does it for her with the purpose of getting to know her and hopefully sleep with her. But all bets are off when she says she’s engaged.

John is now angry. He can’t get Sarah off his mind and it’s her fault. He goes to some bar to let off steam and release some of his unbridled sexual tension thanks to Sarah, that cocktease. He spots Sarah at the bar in very tiny shorts and he grows even angrier. How dare she be out and about in such tiny shorts, showing her cocktease legs, on the prowl to get laid when she told him she has a fiancé. He’ll show her! He grabs a woman and gives her a kiss in front of Sarah and then will use an office he’s given the okay to use by the owner of the bar, grab Sarah inside, invade her space and make her admit she wants him. He orders her to dump her fiancé at home so they can have sex, because he refuses to go after a woman who's promised to another.

John scares Sarah but she can’t help respond to him and for no reason I can think of, she gives John a chance. Their paths cross again because she needs John help because he has money and the only way he’ll give it to her is if she accepts him, basically paying her for the right for her body in the guise of giving her a job. They dance around one another until John can’t take it any longer and one thing leads to another and Sarah allows him to plunder her body and soul in typical bodice ripper type fashion.

Sarah’s Surrender is everything wrong in romance. This is a book I wouldn’t recommend to anyone and I wish I could return it for my money back. I know it became a WTFckery of a read when John plies Sarah with orange juice and vodka in the attempt to loosen her up so he can take her to bed. He thinks this, how he’ll get her drunk and seduce her, but then in the next sentence changes his mind so he’s shown that he isn’t a bad guy. This happens throughout the whole novel. John will make Sarah pay, he will seduce and have her, he will claim her, but then he’ll change his mind. This is Lynda’s way of showing the reader he’s not a bad guy and we can forgive him for his near psychotic and obsessive tendencies toward this woman who should run far, far away from this man. There's nothing engaging or appealing about John that I could find. So what if he’s virile, handsome and mega rich? His personality and outlook on life makes him unattractive and the way he treats Sarah is almost abusive. The fantasy factor can only go so far with this type of story and I really can’t see how anyone would think John is a woman’s fantasy come to life or that Sarah is a heroine we can admire.

The ending is rushed and abrupt with some lame cutesy happily ever after ending that doesn’t fit the story in anyway. The plot is one-dimensional and has no real meat to it. It’s all surface reading and the love scenes are the typical, been there, done that ones I’ve read time and again.

Sarah’s Surrender is a big fail and is promoting the dark side of love romance with John, who is the farthest from what a hero should be.

A big pass on this one. Horrible. I want a refund.

Months ago I tried reading this.. To put it down for 2 reasons. 1 Sarah was engaged.. And I was afraid the cheating would make me mad. 2 John was an ass. Like totally. At first there wasn't much more to him except jerk, mean, bossy, arrogant, and so on. Usually I love a lot of the bossy and take charge alpha tendency. But there has to be that underlying care, tenderness, sweetness. So I stopped. I picked it back up after reading the other book because I wanted to know how Lynda would make John being a widower, and a manwhore after his wife died work. I actually expected to hate him even more but like a car wreck on the interstate I couldn't look away. I'm glad I didn't. Its like slowly he started peeling back that jerk to show the true simple caveman LOL underneath. Its like pure possessive need drove him and he didn't even understand himself as to why he was acting like he did. He had never wanted the things he did with Sarah before. He hadn't ever needed anyone like her before. And all those questions about his marriage and Sarahs engagement were answered to my satisfaction. Simply put this was OTT alpha at its best pure caveman romance and I'm in line for the next Alpha Addicts NotSoAnnonymous meeting that starts in a lot 5 minutes but.. Well I just saw another book by this author on my kindle so Oops I'm not gonna make it.

4 stars as it reminded me of the Over-the-top heroes in those angsty un-PC HP books that I love.
In the real world the hero would be stalker/control freak material, but in romancelandia, he fits right in.
My favorite by this author so far.

I didn't like the hero at all, he was borderline abusive and I could see him taking it a step further if he was in the heat of the moment. He was just so physical to her and ran rough shod over her, he seemed to care mostly about his wants and needs and barely about hers. Their relationship such as it was seemed to only be about sex and the characters weren't fleshed out very well.

4 Dawn of the Caveman Stars

Look.Even I like an Alpha male that talks in 2 syllables from time to time. But Damn Girl ! The hero John is seriously in a league of his own.The hero's crazy obsessiveness almost earned this book a 3 stars from me but his redeeming qualities toward the end of the book convinced me I was being a bit to harsh with the ratings. So a 4 it is.

Warning: DO NOT PICK THIS BOOK IF...Overly Possesive stalker kind of boyfriends offend or freak you out.

Keep in mind this book is just a fantasy. A novel.

⭐️⭐️ two stars -

Two stars for this one from Chance, normally an easy-pick author for me. Chance excels at writing quick and easy, shorter stories with uber alpha males, which I usually go for. Our Here here is a tad too domineering for me, and he gets the distinction of being my least favorite Chance Hero.

The story here is a typical Chance read, and I do like the heroine here. She is strong, confident, capable, and does stand up to our Hero - for a short spell. She’s able to push back at his alpha aggressiveness for a good couple of scenes, until he just basically steamrolls her. I normally enjoy hot, strong, alpha men, but John (our Hero here), just made me uncomfortable with his in-your-face aggression toward our heroine. She definitely has the skill set to hold her own, but the way he just manhandles her came off as a bit too much for me here, and just killed the romantic vibe somewhat.

In full honesty mode, I have read this quick story a handful of times, as again I do like the heroine here, and the ending does have a fulfilling romantic arc. I am just not thrilled with the H or the borderline dub con that happens at their first sexual encounter. He’s just too over the top, and it’s his aggression toward our heroine and everyone he meets that spoils the romance for this romantic soul.

Two stars. Would recommend you choose another Chance story for a hot alpha male read. I personally enjoyed “Marco’s Redemption” (my fave by her) or “The Mistress Mistake”, from this author. I’d read either of those again before I pick up this one up a third time.

I skimmed a lot in this one, maybe some of the stuff I’ve been reading has desensitized me but the H was more grumpy bachelor stuck in his ways than OTT Alpha billionaire. I found this to be a pretty tame read. He falls falls, fmc makes him work for it.

Want a taste of Lynda Chance's Alpha's?

"Not trying to intimidate you, babe. It seems like the next step, that's all." "We met, we're attracted to each other and you lost your boyfriend" (he refused to use the word fiancé). "now we sleep together" "just like that she said" "Well its not rocket science, babe" "you got to get it while its hot"

and that's what you get from Lynda Chance :)

I love em!

I kind of feel guilty that I liked this one because the hero was juuuust a little close to needing anger management at a domestic violence clinic. However, in his defense, he was mostly hot air and empty threats with no real physical violence other than some wrist squeezing. He is meant to be a ubber alpha male and is at least that for sure.

I could get all clinical and say that the heroine has a pattern for entering abusive relationships, but that would take the fun out it ;D She was strongish, though, other than letting the hero control her to a maximum degree.

I read up on the author and think I will try more of her stories. She likes to write about alpha males who act on thoughts and urges without the restrictions of what you find in most romances today (think Kitty Thomas without the whips and chains, maybe), but who don't share and are monogomous (kind of gives her stories away, eh? ;)

So if you like alpha males who might be just a little too much, but you are a stickler for monogomy in your stories and HEAs, well you'll like this story and probably others by the author.

Well that hero was definitely uber alpha. Having been warned going in I was able just to enjoy the total over the topness of him. Of course dealing with a guy like this in real life might be scary but he was fun to read about. I like the whole primal jealousy thing. Thanks Melissa for the loan.

Alpha male anyone?? Ooo, yes right here!

John is a loaded, skeptical, all alpha male kind of guy who is well known in not only his town, also in towns crossing over. He always gets what he wants when he wants it, has no qualms using his status as intimidation and is a possessive overprotective sexy Texan.

Enters Sarah. She stops into town every summer to live at her family owned ranch while on break from her teaching job, and happens to run into John who at first is a total douche to her (well because hello, he is a skeptic/cynic choose your poison), and then cannot stop thinking about her. Perhaps because she is the first person to deny his help, or is it deny him?? Regardless, there is an extremely fun game of cat and mouse he plays to win her over due to situations that would certainly hinder their relationship. John is willing to play this game and uses the words that would sweep any woman off her feet..Ahem ladies, pay attention:

"Romance, huh?" At her nod, he continued, "You're beautiful," he started slowly and then seemed to get into the groove. "You're sweet and kind and deserve someone special." His hand moved back to her hair and her eyes were glued to his, waiting. "I'll never be someone special. I'm just an ordinary guy. But if it's within my power to be even a tenth of what you deserve, I'm going to try my damndest."

Ummm SWOON! I'm sure reading that has just put a smile on your face, just as it did mine...It's not all romance though. No no. Not in a book with an alpha male! It's hot and steamy and if I haven't said it enough, I will say it again. John is ALL alpha male and isn't afraid to let it be known! Example?...I was just thinking that :)

At a local bar, upon seeing a man putting an arm around his woman, he "attacks""Take a good look and then don't ever look in her direction again. She's mine. You fuck with what's mine and you'll live to regret it."

*sighs dreamily* I think my point has been proven...Sadly, I have no more quotes to sum up the goodness of the end, because I do not want to give away what happens!

If you are looking for a short and steamy read, Sarah's Surrender is right up your alley :)

Contain spoilers!!

this was an ok read. I didn't like that the H was pushing h to have sex. I love my alpha men but he was a little too much . The h's past bothered me too. I'm assuming no condom with her ex because she got pregnant and I didn't like that.lol other than that I somewhat enjoyed it.

Safe with exception
H kisses OW . h told him she was engaged so he thought she was off limits. h is engaged to a man when meeting H . she has never had sex with him .she does kiss H before breaking it off. both were married before H ex died and cheated on him .h's ex cheated on her while she was pregnant which causes her to miscarry.both didnt really love their exes.

This book was an okay read. Nothing like Marcos's Redemption which I loved and will reread. I do enjoy Lynda Chances' alpha males. Therefore, I will be reading more of her books. Plus, I do like the author' s writing style. This book was just missing something. I can't put my finger on it.

Solid fun reread. Not my favorite by this author, but still good. Older characters (32 and 27). The H has a dead spouse and the h is a divorcee. Neither had good experiences in their past relationships. OTT jealous/possessive hero saves this book from being a bore. I love a bulldozer. 🤩

Bottom Line? I wish Lynda would write longer books. This one could have used some additional character and relationship development. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️

- no cheating or sharing

- OW drama - the H kisses OW at a bar to make h jealous becomes she won’t go out with him.

- OM drama - the h is engaged to someone else when the books starts

- dubcon-lite - it skates the line 🤷🏼‍♀️

- h is a 27 yr old divorcee

- H is a widower - his dead wife was unfaithful and a drug addict - he’s not mourning her

- condoms used

I'm not sure Lynda Chance's books are supposed to be funny but that's what I get out of them, I just love how she writes her alpha males, so outrageously over the top that all you can really do is just laugh.

Sarah meets the H at a gas station and he's instantly lusting after her
He had only three thoughts banging around in his brain. Who the hell was she, where did she live, and how fast could he possibly get her naked and horizontal on a flat surface?

He wanted to fuck her. Nothing more, nothing less

I just love the crude way the author writes.

So we have Sarah and she's already engaged to another guy, I didn't really get this relationship because she lived in another town away from him and even mentioned shed never had sex with him. her best friend thinks he's gay of course. He doesn't make an appearance in this book at all.

The second time they meet once he knows she's engaged he's already telling her to brake it off, Sarah just thinks he's crazy.
“I’m not crazy. You’re wet for me already, hon. If you think for one second I’m going to let some guy in Dallas dictate to me, you’re insane.”

“This heat I’m feeling is for me. You want me to fuck you just as damn bad as I want to fuck you. Otherwise you wouldn’t be pissed I kissed what’s her name, and your panties wouldn’t be so wet that I can smell your scent.”

So at this point we already know what's going to happen so I wont spoil it anymore. There were some HOT moments and plenty of sexual tension and more outrageous possessive and jealous stuff that happens.

There where also a couple moments when the guy would give off this rapey vibe
“I’m sick of this shit. I’m sick of walking on goddamn eggshells around you. You’re not going to give it up until I force you into it.”
Of course this TSTL girl is all for it.

Again I read this for a good laugh, when I need a crude alpha-male fix I come to this author, this is my 3rd book from her and all her characters sound the same.

Okay ... I get it. You read one Lynda Chance, you've pretty much read them all. But, this isn't always a bad thing. She doesn't sell herself as something she's not. She tells you she writes the tough to like alpha. Exactly. Simple reads. Not a whole lotta' whoopla. Just easy to read, put down, and move on.

I'm reading her backlist -- as many as appeal right now. As Wanele says, "trying to clean my palate." I've been on a huge run of bad luck trying to read more complex stories, so I'm just enjoying the simple same-ness this author gives me.

Happy Simple Reading ... me right now!

I'll say 3.25 stars. I might just let loose with a load of cliches.
A train wreck & I couldn't look away. The writing was very campy. So OTT and exaggerated. The first few pages were so full of inner thoughts and descriptions, I almost dnf'd right there. It took 3 or 4 pages to talk about pumping gas.
Another part: almost 2 full pages about the door bell ringing. Oh boy, where's the dialogue? The plot?
It started to get better after about 25%. They started to talk. He started to tell her what to do. She would (act like) she was listening. I laughed at parts that were supposed to be serious. I still kept on reading-turning the pages. I couldn't look away. The surprise? I liked it, although I'm very glad that is was a short book.

Ok so let me start with why I bought this book. I read Marco's redemption. It wasn't a great book but i was able to enjoy it. I decided to read reviews about that book and the author. Apparently people claimed that this book was better. God I don't get why they said that.

Let me start by saying that John is a big d bag. He pissed me off the whole time. I like dominate males but he was over the top asshole. Towards the end I did seem to like the book better but overall I rate it 1.5

Definitely obsessed and possessive hero that borders on stalkerific.
Both hero and heroine have already been married, she’s divorced and he’s a widower but was divorcing his wife when she died.
Both were cheated on by their spouses.
The heroine has also had a traumatic miscarriage.
So they are both experienced and I should say on the same level.
She’s a teacher and he’s a millionaire playboy.
But a rancher millionaire, so also a little rude and raw.
There’s an insta lust the first time they met- accidentally.
It’s kind of fun because he’s completely lost since the start.
He tries to flirt and seduce her but since she had already a bad experience and has also a boyfriend who is basically a fiancé, she refuses him.
He’s astonished and can’t stop thinking of her.
Some days later they meet again at a bar and since she snubs him he kisses a woman- randomly. Not his best move but he only does it to make her jealous.
Then he tries again with the heroine.
Of course she suffers from severe TBS, and is uncertain if she has to do him or not.
She leaves him anyway.
Then there’s a Big Twist.
She’s trying to get funds for a new hospice in her town and guess who’s the billionaire who has to give them? The hero of course!
So it starts.
He wants her and she wants his money so the hero at the beginning thinks he’s going to have her in his bed without giving her the funds she needs, and starts trying to seduce her.
Let’s be honest, she makes it difficult.
Then of course she surrenders as the title says but she can’t trust him anyway.
And even if he is the one who wanted no commitment at the beginning, later he’s the one who becomes more committed and possessive. He can’t let her go.
And it was kind of cute because he doesn’t realize he’s besotted as no one ever was.
There’s a lil drama when she thinks she can’t have children because of her bad miscarriage but - all is well in the end.
I loved this book, even if it was short and quick.
There’s not much angst but I loved this hero, an example of how a hero can be controlling, obsessed, a lil bit jerk and a lil bit sob, but without being sadistic or a cheater.
This is how a hero should be: besotted from the start and even if he isn’t in love but it’s lust first and then love, he’s faithful and devoted to the heroine and can’t even think to have another woman.
And the chemistry is so very hot!
I admit I enjoyed more the first part where he tries to seduce her, with all those maddening kisses and hot embraces, than the second when they have sex.
Because it’s how it should be: he’s so crazy about her that he can’t keep his hands to himself when he’s with her.
There’s hot passion, not cold and calculated.
He’s boiling. And when they touch they burn.
Is it too much to expect from a romance?
- besotted hero that can’t look at ow
- irresistible attraction and scorching hot passion
Very very good reading and very safe. (The kiss to ow was to provoke a reaction and he watched the heroine all the time)

The beginning of the story was frightening. She should have slapped him with a restraining order! When they first meet, at a gas station, he is gruff and bad tempered until he sees her well and realizes he wants her. He badgers her for her name, last name, is she married?...later on he gets upset at the way she dresses, if she goes out with her friend to a bar, forces her to take off her engagement ring and break off her engagement, to another man. He was excessively jealous and possessive. But of course is supposed to mean that he was that much into her from the beginning and that makes it romantic (shrugging shoulders).

Ummm...alpha anyone? What a fun fantasy! Yes. Yes. I know in real life that John might be considered over the top and be slapped with a restraining order, but I always let go of reality and just enjoy my Lynda Chance books and her jealous, irritable and totally sexy heroes and likable heroines. This was a great escape read and I enjoyed every minute of it.

John was just too overbearing for me… he is portrayed as a mega uber super duper alpha male. Not sure I’ve even made my point yet ;) If his character was toned down just a bit more I may have enjoyed the book more.
