I obviously love this book as I'm the writer haha. The Witchlings is a trilogy, Book 1 - Midnight curse introduces Roxanne. New home, new school. Roxy meets Amber who becomes her friend and fills her in on the do's and dont's of Holbrook. One of the main dont's is the Elites. As soon as Roxy lays eyes on them she is intrigued, beautiful doesn't come close to describe them. Then she see's Luke.

Here's a taster

“WOW, who the hell are they?” Roxy was gob smacked.

Sprawling over two benches were the most beautiful people Roxy had ever laid eyes on. She was breathless, speechless, rooted to the spot. She was unable to move, she had lost all command over her body.

“Those my dear friend are the Elites” Amber gave her a nudge.

“Stop staring” she said in her nervous giggly voice.

Roxanne managed to collect her thoughts and guided by Ambers hand both girls headed over to the nearest table. Roxy couldn’t help but stare though. Those were five stunning examples of the human form, they practically glowed. She could swear they were moving in slow motion just so everyone could enjoy the vision to the maximum.

“Don’t worry” said Amber .

“They have that effect on everyone the first thousand or so times you see them” they both started laughing, laughing so hard that they almost fell off the bench.

The Elites suddenly turned to stare at them, deep stares as if they could see right into their souls. Both girls stopped laughing and twitched uneasily in their skins. Amber gave Roxy the low down on the Elites once they had turned their back to them. She began the story. Three years ago when they were fourteen they came to the school after being home schooled in their little clan for most of their lives. Apparently they had wanted to experience a proper school education. Roxy soaked up everything Amber said like she was a sponge, she couldn’t seem to get enough information about them.

“I don’t know why they bother coming to school though Rox, and then to stay on in 6th form because they know everything already. They get every single question right, straight A’s in all assignments and A*’s in every exam. It can’t be natural for such a close knit group to all be tremendously clever and so spell-bindingly beautiful.”

“Some people have all the luck, and then there’s me.”

Roxy laughed again but felt slightly nervous at Ambers statement, she really did have a great sense of humour, and Roxy knew she couldn’t mean it, she must have known she was pretty, not stunning but definitely pretty.

“You would fit in well over there Miss Taylor” Amber gave her a suggestive look.

“Hardly” Roxy replied almost shocked.

”I mean sure I don’t do badly in my studies and my looks are OK” Roxy twisted her face and crossed her eyes and they both fell about in fits of laughter.

“But I do have serious flaws. Take my crooked smile. The way my nose has a small kink in it and I’d love bigger boobs and a smaller waist”. Roxy thrust out her chest as far as it would go while still trying to pull a dodgy face.

“But hey no one is perfect. Well I used to think so but now yes some people are perfect” she turned to bask in their beauty again, took a deep breath and sighed.

“Those five could give someone a severe complex about themselves.”

“Five Hun ? I think you will find there are six of those magnificent creatures” Amber replied with an element of distaste.

Roxy peered over and then as they stood to move inside she saw him. The most stunning male Adonis she had ever laid eyes on invaded her eye line. He was lazing on the grass without a care in the world or so it seemed. He stood to his full six foot height and tucked his hands into his pockets giving him an air of boyish charm. His jet black hair perfectly styled to hang just above his blue eyes. They were not just blue eyes though, they were the bluest eyes she had ever seen and they were only enhanced more by the golden tan that she imagined covered his entire buff body. WOW WOW WOW ( he definitely warranted a double repeat).
Roxy felt dizzy, as though someone had cut off her air supply. Her stomach flipped and she felt as though she could throw up. A warm tingle rushed through her body as though she had never seen a hot guy before. The truth was, she had never seen a guy that hot before ever, not even on TV.

Over the next week she saw the Elites everywhere. They watched her, staring constantly and whispering. All of them except Luke, the super super hot guy. Even thinking his name name would steal her breath. Roxy wondered if they were staring because of that first time she had seen them when she had laughed loudly. Did they think she was laughing at them ? She was, sort of, but they didn’t know that. They couldn’t, they were far enough away not to hear. Their eyes constantly found her and as much as she fought it she couldn’t help but stare back, they seemed to draw her to them or rather Luke drew her to him. He wasn’t like the others, he didn’t whisper about her. He just stared, deep into her, like his soul was communicating with hers, like he was trying to lure her over to him. If that was the case then it was working. He made her feel edgy, nervous and very horny but more than that, she felt desperate to talk to him, to feel him. She had never wanted anyone like she wanted Luke. He walked with such rhythm, it was as if he had his very own band playing seductive sweet music. He oozed charm and masculinity. The other two Elite guys ‘Spencer’ and ‘Ryan’ were both pretty damn hot themselves, both muscular blondes, quite athletic builds and even though she was pulled to them it was not the same desperate urge she felt for Luke.

I have to say that I loved the storyline. I love to read about witches, its one of my favorite subjects. Parts of the story were well written and brought you into the story. Some parts where not well developed as the rest of the book. The romance in this story felt really rushed. To me it wasn’t as believable as it could have been. I wish the author would have made the story longer so the parts that felt rushed could be drawn out longer. Nonetheless it was a great storyline and I enjoyed reading it. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves stories of witches!!
Note: This book was given to me from the author (through goodreads.com) in exchange for my honest review. There was no monetary compensation for my review.

I was given a free copy of this book as part of the R2R program, which is really incredible and I'm glad I found out about it.

First off let me say that I love reading YA. One of my biggest pet peeves about other people who read YA is when they then go and complain about the dialogue being too immature or annoying, etc. In my opinion it's YA, and it's targeted at teenagers who actually speak that way on a day-to-day basis, so if you don't like it you shouldn't read it. Okay, with that being said, this book's dialogue was NOT simply immature teenagers speaking. It was just poorly written. From the huge grammatical errors throughout to the broken up sentence structure, to the lack of question marks, it was just a mess. It almost seemed like an outline or a rough draft.

The MC seemed shallow and and was completely unintertesting to me halfway through the book. The love interest was cliche and the whole "Elites" thing just reminded me too much of Twilight. As well as the fact that two of the major twists in the story were incredibly predictable.

I liked the overall concept of witches, and I WANTED to like this book. I just couldn't get past the grammar and spelling errors.

The Witchling was a great fast past book! I enjoyed the characters as well as the story line! I liked the characters and how likable they were! of course there is one in every bunch that needs an attitude adjustment! The book was full of suspence. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one!
Yes there was some grammer issues, but thats not a huge issue for me as it is for some people!

Note: I received a free copy of this book from the author for a honest review. My review is totally honest and is written in the form of a conversation between my various self's.

Judge-a-book-by-its-title Me: The Witchlings? That sounds very exciting. Midnight's curse? Wow! Midnight and curses make very good combinations indeed. I don't even need to read the book-back summary. I am sure gonna love it.
Judge-a-book-by-its-cover Me: What a text-booky cover! But still a wand with light coming out of it has to be interesting. Let's read this book.

*Starts reading*
Excitement seeker Me (ESM): Yawn! Such a dull start. I better read it later.
Curious Me (CM): No, no! Wait. I want to see what happens. Perhaps there is going to be something exciting and you will curse yourself for not reading it earlier!
ESM: You're right. I will read it.

*Some-where in the middle*
Not-so-romantic Romantic Me (NSRRM): Luke+Roxy=Obsessive-compulsive romance. I hate that in books. I don't feel like reading more.
CM: Wait. Roxy just found out she is a Witchling. I bet you can control your hatred of the romantic part. Soon there will be wands and spells. Yaaah!
ESM: Are you sure?
CM: There has to be. According to the cover.
NSRRM: Keep arguing guys. I will squirm through the romance part quickly. It sounds quite like the twilight one. Thankfully, there are no love triangles. It maybe perfect for a tween, but not for a teen. I want a romance as in 'The Fault in Our Stars.'
ESM: Whatever. I am getting distracted. I hope curses start raining down sown.
CM: You wait, sis. They will happen.

*The scene where
Emotional Me (EM): I think I might be needed soon.
CM: Perhaps.
ESM: No you are not. Leave right now. It may be an emotional moment, but you don't want to shed tears. Not when you can cry about Fred Weasley's Death.
EM: Sure thing! I just thought I might be needed. I didn't want to be here. I guess I will just obliterate for now.
ESM: Better do. I don't want CM to get all excited up. She will force me to read more even when I don't want to.

*Towards the end*
ESM: Seriously, is this what I was getting to? I could have guessed it.
CM: But you didn't guess. :P
ESM: Whatever. It didn't get as exciting as you predicted too. Double :P
CM: But I HAD to read. I had to find out more. Don't you simply understand?
ESM: And I had to get excited, okay?
CM: Well, I kind of guessed it.
ESM: Then why did you go on?
CM: Because I had to complete it. And why did you allow me to go on?
ESM: Just so that I could get over with it. The End.

Sensible Me (SM): OMG, you guys. You people quarrel a lot.You woke me up from my sleep. I have to struggle to make sense of you people. I will tell you what I think of it. And my word will be final. The story does make sense, but the amateur-ness of the author is evident. The writing style is plain and simple. And I really like that. No fancy words or descriptions. Which makes it perfect for tweens. They are gonna love this story. I might give a copy of it to my 10 year old cousin for reading. But not me-

ESM: I told you so CM! :P
Sensible Me (SM): Do not interrupt me. As I was saying the story did not intriguer me. I kind of plain guessed it. Oh, and one more thing. I found myself mentally correcting punctuation and grammar errors while reading it. But that may be just because I received a pre-edited copy. Or the fact that I am a grammar Nazi. Also, there was nil character development. Not that I look for it much in books, but still.... something. I admit I was curious to read more at times but gave up because it felt so dragged. I started reading the book 4 times before I finally completed the first chapter. It is not a bad book, but not as good as I would want it to be. I feel that the title promised more. That.Is.All.

I received an electronic copy of this book from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for the review – and all conclusions are my own responsibility.
Firstly – this book is most aptly described as a Young Adult book, it would even be appropriate for younger teens, and the pacing of the story would fit them well.

The story centers on Roxanne, a just 17 year old girl who has, after several tumultuous years of moving, finally resettled in her hometown. She is, like every new kid in school, nervous and rather shy, having decided to not mask her personality to fit in – but to be herself. She makes one friend, and is entranced by a small clique of students, in particular one boy, Luke, who appear to have everything one could want: brains, beauty and friendship. But there are secrets, most to do with her heritage and ancestry. And a witch executed in the early seventeenth century whose influence is creating tremors even today.

So - it’s a story about witches and those who wish to eliminate them; finding your inner resolve and strength, while learning to fit in unnoticed by those who wish you harm. It is quite cleverly written, characters are well developed according to their involvement in the story. There is some ‘flatness’ to a few characters; whether from their meager appearances in the plot, or that rather dismissive teenaged viewpoint that tends to lump adults into a rather removed species , the less developed characters are very much secondary and sideline to any and all action.

There are a few differences that you will notice as an American reading this story; it is told utilizing mostly British slang, the inclusion of A levels seems to center the book in the UK, although I don’t remember the inclusion of more than a town name. There are a couple of small errors in spelling, not enough to change the flow, but a careful edit would remove those issues from the final product. The only other issue I had was a personal one: we have all been “done to death” with the idea of the handsome, hot, mysterious boy who will solve all the problems – this book started to feel as if that would be the tone to the end, when Roxanne found her personal power and was the heroine. While I truly did appreciate the movement away from “boy saves girl, girl can’t function without boy” storyline, I wish that Roxanne hadn’t so quickly and completely fallen under thrall to Luke.

As a start of a series, I think this is a winner. Especially for fans of paranormal stories that center around modern witches, and their all too real foibles.

Like most books about witches, this one was a coming of age tale that could have been redundant in the telling yet it was not. All of the characters were likeable, flawed, love/hate status, and friendly too. The story was skillfully woven with just the right amount of backstory without it being over done or tossed out like breadcrumbs~a piece at a time which can drive you crazy. The pacing of the story was just beautiful it wasn't rushed or force at all. It was a true page turner because you just had to know what happened next it was that good. Everything flowed together in such a way that you were anxious for more until you finished the book. Here are my thoughts:

Roxanne(Roxy) Taylor has just moved into another town to attend another new school with just her dad. Roxy's mother left when she was just four years old. She keeps hoping that this will be her last move yet she's not holding her breathe either. She meets Amber, who takes her under wing, at school and the two become friends quickly. When Roxy spys a group of good looking individuals known as The Elites. She becomes fascinated by Luke and the feeling is definitely mutual much to the dismay of one member. Luke and Roxy become close quickly. Yet Roxy knows that Luke is hiding something from her just not sure what. Every year for Roxy's birthday, she's wished to see her mother yet this year's wish is different. Luke mysteriously disappears and no one has heard from him. Roxy learns some interesting news about her mother and confronts her father with what she's learned. Roxy receives even more stunning news~her mother wants to see her and she's also a witch. Roxy has a lot to learn about her heritage, being a witch, and staying clear of the witch finders too. Where is Luke? Do the witch finders have him? Can Roxy handle the truth? Will she accept being a witch? Your answers await you in The Witchlings Midnight Curse.

I have to say that I truly despised Mr. Smith from the get go. He struck me as the type of person who finds no joy in anything and everything that he does. It's almost like he has unreasoning hate for people in general. He always appeared to be angry about everything and nothing at the same time. It was like he lived and breathed hate in all of it's forms. How does a person cope in the face of all that? Simply put you learn to ignore it and pray that the person gets over themselves soon. At least that is my take on how to deal with The Mr. Smith's of the world.

The story itself wasn’t very engaging. I lost interest in the story so many times, mostly because of the main character. Roxanne isn’t a very interesting or realistic character; and the speed at which she “falls in love” with Luke is just overdone. As for the boy, can I say overdone to death with the handsome, sexy, and oh so mysterious boy who will save the day. Not that he does but that’s the feel you get for him. I actually went *sigh*.
Also, there was no character development. You gain zero affinity for any of the characters in the story. This book seemed to drag on; I started reading it numerous times before I was finally able to stick with it. It seemed like chapter one was just moving at an absolute snail’s pace. Then we have the “Elites”, I mean seriously does anyone actually classify people in such a manner any longer?

I found myself mentally correcting punctuation and grammar errors while reading it. But that may be just because I received a pre-edited copy, or the fact that I am a grammar Nazi. But, since I received this book for free and I’m not sure if it was edited or not I can say that I can rule this out as a problem.

It isn’t a bad book, it’s a quick read which is what most teenagers would be searching for. I can also say younger than that could read this and possibly enjoy it more. Perhaps the 9 and up age bracket would be a better fit for this story. I’ll have to let my son read it and have him let you know.

This aside, I do feel that the title draws you in and the story should as well, but it just didn’t do it. The funny thing is if this book had been a bit longer perhaps then these issues wouldn’t be in there for me to complain about. It just felt as if the author rushed too many things which should have opened the story up and dragged along areas which weren’t truly needed for the overall story.

Received for free in exchange for an honest review.

The Witchlings - Midnight Curse is a book I'd recommend to young girls age 12 to 15; it will fall flat for anyone older than that.

I am a big fan of YA, but this one just didn't do it for me.

Not enough character development or tension to really make this an excellent read. There's potential, but it never got there. It all felt so rushed and too short. Here's a problem, hurry up and solve it...Too much love at first sight and happily ever after for me, all wrapped up in a pretty little box with a great big bow.

Also, a little too similar to Twilight in certain areas.

I wanted to give this book 4.5 stars, for the simple reason that it's a fast read, but decided not to deduct points for that. I thought the book had a great storyline and I did like the history that went along with this book. Roxy is starting over new, new house, new town, new friends. When she's at school, with her new friend Amber, she comes face to face with the "Elites" a group of uber good looking kids that stick to themselves. She starts "seeing" one of the Elites, Luke. On the weekend of her birthday, she finds out what she really is the the truth behind her move. It was a fast paced book and if you like that, this one is for you.

The book is written well, the world and characters are believable and mostly likeable. I liked the blurb and idea of the story and really wanted to love it. It fell a little short of that for me. There were some editing issues, but to me they were minor.

Roxy is the new girl in town. She makes her first and best friend, Amber, the first day of school. It’s the first time Roxy tries to be herself and it’s paying off. Not only does she have her best friend Amber, but the hottest guy in school professes his love for her. And this is where I have a problem. Roxy loves Luke and he supposedly loves her. I just don’t see how she can let him get away with saying he loves her and yet not show it in public. Roxy doesn’t complain to Luke, she just goes home and cries into the fur of the stray cat that comes through her bedroom window to visit at night. Then she finds out her dad has moved them to the same town her mother, the mother who up and left her when she was 4, now lives. Not only did her dad know that he waited until “you were ready” to tell her. She immediately forgives her father and the next day goes to visit her mom with complete forgiveness and open arms. Roxy came across as rather weak heroine. That is until the end when she really finds her inner strength.

Luke got on my last nerve with all hiding of his relationship with Roxy. He was telling her he loved her, but I can’t let ANYONE see us together. Nope, he doesn’t even go to her 17th Birthday party. Instead he climbs a tree and says a quick Happy Birthday to her through the bedroom window and leaves, and disappears for weeks. I won’t say what happened; you’ll have to read to fine out. It’s the best part of the book for me. Luke turns out to be an all right guy, not enough depth to his character to really connect.
This is a young adult book that I would recommend for those in middle school. Overall I liked it, just personally not to my taste as far as heroines go.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I received this book free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The book centres around a young girl (Roxy),who, when she moves back to her old home-town, discovers she is a Witch and is descended from a long line of powerful witches. She is initially in awe of a clique of students at her new school, The Elites, as they are known and develops a crush on Luke a pivotal member of The Elites. Little does she know that they are actually members of the local Coven......

I have to say, overall, I did enjoy the book and I will probably read the rest of the trilogy but it does need some polishing in places. It suffers from some serious grammatical errors, misplaced apostrophes and punctuation errors etc - which really need correcting by a thorough editing process. I understand, however, that these are in the process of being ironed out as the author had to send us her pre-edited version to allow us to commence the reviews - so please don't allow these errors to sway you in anyway :)

I struggled to get a sense of place from the book - something that is crucial to me as a reader. For example, at one point it mentions A Levels, so I assume it is set in the UK, but later in the book it mentions cheerleaders - which are not common in the UK and they way of writing seemed very "Americanized". I also had difficulty with the one-dimensional nature of most of the characters and really would have liked them to be more "fleshed out" to help me engage with them more.

In conclusion, this book is worth having a look at but it does need some adjustments. However, I think for younger YA readers it would definitely keep them turning the pages.

I found this book to be enjoyable. It is the story of a girl named Roxy, who has just moved into a new town with her father. As the new kid in the high school she feels uncomfortable until she meets Amber. They become best friends and Amber helps her adjust. There is a small group of students called The Elites; they are beautiful and stick to themselves. Roxy feels an immediate pull towards one of them- Luke. He is absolutely beautiful and he seems attracted to Amber too. The stares Roxy gets from the other Elites makes her question what they are all about. Roxy and Luke do begin a relationship that goes VERY fast. The other Elites are not happy about it. From their relationship Roxy learns a lot of things- what the elites are about, that she really is a witch, where her mother is (who left when she was young), the identity of the black cat that has been coming around her, about the witch hunters, and more.

This book was a fun read. It totally reminded me of Twilight in parts. The characters were great. I felt bad for Roxy at times and Luke was definitely a bit of a crush for me. I did think the relationship between Roxy and Luke went a little too fast. They were in love with each other within a few days of starting their relationship. The book does need some editing- not a ton but I did notice some things. Overall, this is a good young adult book; definitely for younger people. I am curious to see what happens in next book in the series. If you are looking for a fun, light read, this is a good choice!

My review of The Witchlings Midnight Curse by Amanda Turner
Rating 3***
This book was provided free from the author in exchange for honest literary review.

. Let me start off by saying I feel like this book has a lot of potential. Roxy's a teen who had her whole life turned upside down when het mom left. However, outside of Roxy the book was just too short to develop the other supporting characters. I am a sucker for love... so I love the relationship between her and Luke. it seemed unfair to rush it and have them profess undying love on the second time they spoke to some another. I was hoping to see their relationship drawn out a little better. Like I said before I wish there was just more of everything....more character devopment, more cohesive flow, and more editing. I am very grateful to tje author eho allowed me to read as part of a r2r program. I love witches so to write this really does upset me. I just see where with a little more polishing there could be a great novel here.

Roxy moves to a new town with her dad and being the new kid doesn't know what to expect. What she didn't anticipate was a group of beautiful kids who keep to themselves and who all the "normal" kids refer to as the Elites. Luke is a member of the Elites and Roxy can't help but feel a connection to him. When Luke goes missing Roxy sets out to find out what happened and discovers things that she couldn't have imagined, like the whereabouts of her mother and the fact that she and all the Elites are witches.
Young teens looking for a series about witches will like this book. The story flowed smoothly and Roxy was a very likable character that many teens can relate to. This was a good fast read though predicable and a little cliche. I am not a big fan of insta-love and some things were just a little too easy, but I will probably still finish this series to see what happens next.

I had fairly high expectations for this book, considering I don't really read YA. Still, it's sounded interesting enough. The opening was pretty gripping, and drew my interest. But then I ran into problems. First off, I'm not from Britain, so a lot of the slang made absolutely no sense to me. I simply had to skip over them and continue on to get the gist of the book. I noticed a couple of grammar and spelling errors, though not overly much. Perhaps those of British decent or those that learn british slang may appreciate the book more than I did. It was not a horrible story. Just the style of writing didn't really work for me

I started this book due to needing to understand the background of the story to be able to review the second book in this series 'Blue Moon'.

I think the concept of the story was good, but it definitely needed a better editor before publication. I enjoyed the overall premise of the story, but I have to agree with some other viewers that Roxanne's character wasn't built enough to really feel like I connected with her. When I started the book it felt like it was Twilight with witches instead of vampires, but it did get better as it continued.

It was a fast, good read, but I'm hoping for something better in the second book!

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

The plot and idea of the book was intriguing and inspiring to this type of genre. However the book seemed very rushed. I felt like there was no middle no climatic feel to the book. I did not feel the characters as much as there could have been if the book was more smoothly transitioned. Overall the premise and idea was awesome and I look forward to the other books within this series.
