***Warning: The DC Chili Cook-off has nothing on this red-hot erotic romance****
Already burned once by love, DC metro firefighter Seth Ripley thought he'd learned his lesson--women who break the rules are against the rules. When a hot blonde catches his eye at the annual fireman's ball, he's interested. But she's breaking the buddy rules and that makes her against his rules. So why does he want to burn the rule book?
Trauma surgeon Eden Thomas has never experienced anything like the inferno raging inside after one kiss from the new firefighter. Despite her best friend's warnings to take care, self-preservation is the last thing on Eden's mind as she starts to play with fire.
The problem is that when you play with fire, you might just get hurt.
This erotic romance is the story of Seth and Eden. When Eden first meets Seth at a fancy event that she is attending with her in the closet gay best friend Ryan, sparks fly and it doesn't take long for them to end up in bed together. But Seth isn't sure what to make of her friendship with his fellow firefighter. Can she convince him that she's not cheating on him without giving away her friend's secret?
I quite enjoyed this steamy romance. Seth is a dominant alpha male type and when he sets his eyes on Eden he knows he wants her - but he's been cheated on before and seeing her ease with her friend Ryan makes him unsure of whether he can trust her. I liked Eden's character too as she tries to navigate being with Seth and her feelings for him at the same time as she wants to protect her friend and his personal life. There is a good amount of tension in the story as things heat up between them both emotionally and physically. Their love scenes are sexy and emotional. There is a secondary subplot between Ryan and his boyfriend Michael that was left a bit open-ended, I would have liked to know how that was resolved (which could easily be a book all on it's own!). Overall an entertaining and steamy story. 4 stars.
Meh... not bad for an Amazon free novella. The sex was ok but I had a very hard time buying the "I'm a trauma surgeon and a virgin." If you are a doctor... who should know all about the female body and probably wouldn't ask this guy you just met about how everything is supposed to feel. Plus I thought it was hard to believe that a virgin would all of the sudden sleep with a guy before the first date is even over. Seriously, they were walking up the stairs to go somewhere, I cant even remember, and he stopped her on the stairs and stuck his hand up her skirt and got her off right there. Umm... nope.
Jut ok for me. If you're looking for a quick naughty read with lots of sex and little story then this is the novella for you. If you like a good story with your sex then I wouldn't even bother. The story itself could have been really good. There was a brief moment when I got excited something was going to happen but then Eden tripped and Seth's penis fell into her. (that is an exaggeration)
Oh and the last 20% of the novella are excerpts from other books.
Why I Read this Book: Firefighters! Need I say more?
What I Liked:This Fire was kind of a twofer. There's two love stories going on – one that is just beginning between Seth and Eden, and then there’s a secondary love story that has already been established. The primary focus is on Seth and Eden but it was nice to follow the other couple’s relationship and struggles as well. Hell, I would like to read the secondary couple’s book, if there was one.
Eden knows what she wants and she speaks her mind. She is also a very good friend and will do anything to help her two best friends. And keeping her friends' secrets has a huge effect on her relationship with Seth. It actually becomes a pretty big conflict between Eden and Seth, to the point where she has to make a decision. The conflict felt genuine and the outcome was realistic. No drama llama needed.
When I found out in the very beginning that Eden is a virgin, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book. But since her virginity wasn’t overly emphasized, it didn't bother me too much.
What I Didn’t Like: There’s a scene where Eden’s friend is giving her a foot rub and it goes into details about using hand sanitizer on her feet first. I get that it’s realistic but it’s just something I don’t want to read about. It sort of takes the fun out of getting a foot massage.
Memorable Moment:
“I am very attracted to you. I would very much like to see whether that attractions goes anywhere.”
“This kind of attraction goes straight to bed, sweetheart.”
Overall Impression:This Fire was a good story about friendship and love, and I wish this was a series so I could read about the other firefighters.
I always start off with how I do my rating- 5 stars are my favorite books and will re-read and recommend to anyone. 4 stars are ones that I liked a lot but not loved as a favorite. 3 stars are ones that I liked (just liked). 2 stars are ones that I was not fond of. 1 star is for ones I hate and can not stand.
I think of myself as a strong woman and I know if ever a man told me to shut up while we were having sex that would be the end of him. I was not drawn to Seth but wanted to beat him with a baseball bat instead. How old is Eden supposed to be? A virgin come on - who just happens to blurt out not innocent sayings. Not believable. Seth is an over possessive controlling man - I was seriously waiting for him to start abusing Eden. If the book continued she would have been totally cutoff from all her friends by Seth and kept at home where all she is ever allowed to do is please him - forget about any happiness - though Seth is so controlling that I'm sure she would be brain washed to think she was happy. I'm glad this was an amazon freebie. I almost gave this 1 star
I liked it, I do wish it was a bit longer 3 1/2 stars.
Trauma surgeon Eden is happy to play escort to her firefighter friend Ryan as well as his lover Michael who both prefer to keep their sexual orientation private for professional reasons.
At a firefighters ball Eden meets Ryan's new co-worker Seth and both are immediately attracted.
I liked how Eden was honest about her feelings from the start but the author chose to make her a virgin which I could buy but she was a bit of a Mary Sue considering she's a surgeon. Seth was downright sexy and I love me a dirty talker.
What a wonderful short story. I loved the characters and the overall theme. Would have liked it a bit longer but.... The only problem I had was the swift change toward the end declaring their love so fast. With all the questions Seth had and insecurities, just didn't connect for me. Would have liked to see more of the interaction even if only over the phone.
I liked the story but got a bit hung up on how quickly Seth reacted to Eden's relationships with Michael & Ryan. It was a bit too soon I feel for her to disclose things and then he just kinda stormed off on her. I liked how true a friend she was but glad that she finally talked with the guys and explained things. It was a quick read so I guess that's why there wasn't more of a story there but I would have enjoyed it more if it was a longer story. Overall, a good quick read though.
I liked this one, I just wanted more. I wanted more time with the main characters. I wanted more time with the supporting characters. I wanted more time for the relationship to develop. I want to see where this goes, for all of them. *sigh*
I picked up This Fire as a free download from Amazon on December 1, 2013 and read it as part of my 'Why Buy the Cow' reading challenge.
This is one of the better erotica books I have read. Elise and Emily did a good job making me care about the characters and I really enjoyed the dialog. Good story line also and I recommend this story if you want a lite read with some pretty steamy love scenes. It is also FREE on Amazon right now although I'm not sure how long that is going to last.
This was a great book. A little unrealistic but good nonetheless. The love between the heri and heroine seem not natural. I do believe in love at first sight but with the of them it seemed rushed. The storyline was ok but the sex scenes a nd the attraction between the two of them made up for that.
I enjoyed this read. I wish it was a little longer. I felt it kept me hanging, like there should have been a book 2 but this was a stand-alone book. Seth is hot, hot hot!!! Certain situations were hot. I like the story line a lot.
Absolute bollocks - a Virgem trauma surgeon who begs not to use condom and a borderline abuse male who suffers - after one date - from excessive jealousy. Sex scenes are not badly written but it does not save this “book”
This Fire is a short novella that fell short for me. I didn't really connect with the characters but overall this was a good story that had potential to be so much better.
This would have been a 5 star book had it been a full length!! Great short story really really would have to have had more!! Maybe she will right an update to there story!
I loved this book! Holy hotness batman!! Wow! It made me want to go camp out at a firehouse!! I could not put it down until the last page! Looking forward to more!
Super hot quickie romance. I loved the connection between Eden and her best friends. It was great to see her find someone who was just as worthy of her love as her best male friend.
