All The King's Men #3

Micah's Calling

Rate this book
Author’s Note: This is a novella supplement to the All the King’s Men series. It is highly advised that you read Rise of the Fallen before reading this novella. Reading book two of the series, Heart of the Warrior, would also be beneficial, but not absolutely necessary before reading Micah’s Calling.

With the threat of Apostle behind him and Samantha’s life finally out of danger, Micah’s mating phase, known as the calling, unfurls to full strength. Unable to resist the demands of his body and the hormonal heat that drive him to propagate the vampire race, Micah loses himself in the pleasure Sam gives him, yearning for her body to receive his seed to create new life. But after what Sam has been through – barely surviving Apostle’s venomous bite, and then Micah’s own venom to counter Apostle’s and make her immortal – Micah knows Sam’s body has suffered too much to accept a child so soon.

But the desire to nest and start a family isn’t the only thing Samantha has awakened in Micah. She has also stirred Micah’s long-dormant love of domination. With Sam, Micah finds himself longing to re-open his dungeon, and Sam wants to know more about this kinky world she has heard so much about but never tried. When Micah takes Sam to a scene party to introduce her to the BDSM lifestyle, their lives are turned upside-down when Micah is asked to assist in dominating a fellow dom's submissive, only to discover the submissive is his friend, Traceon.

Throughout her journey in this new world Micah has introduced her to, Sam begins to realize several hard truths about herself and what she wants. Will Micah allow her to explore her new interests? And will the new direction in his friendship with Traceon prove to be too much and break the bonds that have begun to tie them to one another?

Micah’s Calling is a story of devotion beyond the level of friendship that will light your imagination on fire.

Strong sexual content, voyeurism, exhibitionism, BDSM, knife play, mild ménage, and much more.

Micah is evolving into the man that he was once upon a time. Caring, loving and an all around nice guy. People are finding this new Micah much better to be around. I can not wait to see where this will play into the other parts of the series.

Salve, Fenici,

All the Kings Men #2.5
Micah's Calling (AKM, #2.5) by Donya Lynne Micah's Calling by Donya Lynne was a nice novella length addition to the All the Kings Men series.

This book is completely about the three main characters of the first book in this series, Rise of the Fallen. If you want to get the maximum enjoyment out of this book, you should read All the King's Men books #1 & 2 first.

I enjoyed this up close and personal look at the love growing between Micah and Samantha as well as the bond forming between Micah, Trace and Samantha.

Here is my breakdown of the ratings for the different aspects of this book:
Ease of Readability - 9/10
Uniqueness of Story - 7/10 Mostly I found this story to be unique, but the beginning did reiterate stuff we already read in Rise of the Fallen.
Storyline Expansion - 8/10 The first part was mostly a reread of what we had already seen in Rise of the Fallen, with a little more depth and detail to it, and from a different perspective. The rest was all new.
Character Development - 9/10 This book developed Micah, Samantha and Trace even more.
Dialogue Plausibility - 9/10 The dialogue was mostly all good.
Plot Development - 9/10 It furthered the plot of Rise of the Fallen. If you haven't read that book, you probably shouldn't read this one until you do. You won't get nearly as much out of it if you don't.
Annoyance Factor - 0/10 I was not annoyed by this book in the slightest.
Interesting Characters - 9/10 I love learning more about Micah, Samantha and Trace.
Humorous Interplay - 7/10 a good amount of humor for this book.
Romantic Chemistry - 7/10 Not quite as good as the first two, but perfect for this book.
Tear Jerkiness - 9/10 I felt this book had just the right amount of emotion inserted into it.

I absolutely adore this series! It’s one of the rare gems that can completely captivate my attention, pulling me away from everything else so I can immerse myself in the lives of these characters. The storytelling is consistently engaging, filled with intricate plots and unexpected twists that keep me glued to the pages, eager to find out what happens next. The vampires are fascinating, each possessing unique powers that set them apart from one another, leaving me in suspense as I try to anticipate their next moves. One particularly intriguing detail is that these vampires actually purr when they are aroused; I find that notion incredibly appealing and a bit sensual.

Every character is incredibly well-developed, making it easy to empathize with them or feel a strong aversion towards those who are not as morally upright. The emotional depth adds layers to the narrative, enhancing the overall reading experience.

The entire storyline unfolds immediately following the events of "Rise of the Fallen," diving into the tumultuous aftermath where Micah is entrenched in the depths of his Calling with Samantha. During this time, he finds himself unable to go more than a fleeting moment without seeking physical intimacy, rendering work and other responsibilities nearly impossible. Their days seem to be filled with nothing more than moments of passion, punctuated occasionally by interactions with Traceon. As the plot progresses, secrets begin to surface, and hidden kinks are explored, unveiling the complexities of each character’s desires.

I’m particularly pleased to have the opportunity to delve deeper into Trace’s character. He has always been shrouded in mystery, and this installment allows us to uncover some of his hidden truths. His background as a mixed-blood has led to his powers becoming increasingly unpredictable, and Micah is about to discover just how formidable Trace truly can be.

The themes in this book traverse various elements, including BDSM, voyeurism, and humiliation, alongside the profound revelations that characters experience. While there may not be any high-speed chases or action-packed sequences, the narrative is rich with emotional depth and heartfelt moments that resonate long after the last page is turned.

Ummmm

Okay so I could have gone on without this. After reading Ari and Sev story I feel like the only couple that can compare will be whoever trace ends up with. I have some concerns, first sam is still married to her husband. Micah may have removed his memories but legally sam is still his wife. I can't see Micah being okay with this. Sam and Micah are a cool couple however I felt like I was reading the kinker side of Christian and Anna from fifty shades of grey. When Micah called sam little one I almost deleted this from my kindle. That's soren nickname for Nora and it makes more sense in the original sinners. The only save for this book was trace. I'm completely in love with him. While I won't be reading the rest of the series simply because I don't like the next two leading females I will be on the look out for traces book. Donya has a beautiful writing style. She gave me a very clear visual of the scenes. I dislike how the males in this book are not really males. They seem more feminine. I get the caring for your mate thing but really sam only cooked a pot of chilli and Micah did everything else. He tended to her like she was a child. If Donya wants me to believe these vampires are male and not man I'm I need them to be a lot less tame. Even the conversations Micah and Trace have sounds feminine. I just don't see two heterosexual males saying or doing some of these things in this story. This story was repetitive. The sex scene and how they start seem to all be the same. But like I said trace saved this book.

WOW !!! I was interested in this book because i really enjoy J R Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood Series, and wanted to read something similar.Boy oh BOY was that a great idea !!!
Micah is one of the oldest Vampires out there , and has had a second chance at a HEA with his forever mate Sam . In the 1st part of his story , Sam "rescued " what she thought was a man being beaten to death. Turned out o be Micah ! And as soon as he tasted her blood, he KNEW She was his . And as a bonded mate , he did whatever he needed to do to have her. no matter the consequences. With the help of his "new " best friend Trace, they are able to make stuff happen.
In this book, Trace has a problem.... He has certain powers that can get out of control VERY quickly if he isn't able to release some of them ,somehow. In the past he was able to find some release in a DOM/SUB relationship, with him being the SUB. He has learned that , in certain Circles, Micah is a DOM Extraordinaire !! Trace needs Micah to help him out, Trace needs Micah to DOM the HELL out of him. But will he do it ?? He is Mated now,and in" Retirement ". But will he come out of retirement for his New Bestie ? Or will the POWER overwhelm him , and lead to disaster ???
Some of the scenes in this book were SUPER HOTTTTTT !!!
I will DEFINETELY be reading more from DONYA LYNNE :)))))

GREAT STORY!

Micah is a very interesting character with a history many hunger for new knowledge of. He may be as stubborn as a mule, but he is loyal, trustworthy, and loving.
However, he is a hot-head when it comes to things he doesn't like, and he is not scared to show it. But I like honest characters, even if it's rather extreme behaviour-wise.

His love for Sam is clear, and frankly, treats her like a queen. But he does have a rather kinky side many wouldn't favour. However, he does say he would give it up if Sam wasn't into such kink.

As of his behaviour toward Trace, I like the fact both he and Sam bonded with him in such a manner. He is just as messed up like everyone is like Sam tells him. Trace needs help, which he was afraid to ask for, but Micah and Sam provided it without questioning it.

As for the sex during his calling, it didn't bother me, at all, but some may view it as a bit rough. Sam may have enjoyed it, and she clearly did! But some readers may not favour the degree of description. However, the warnings provided do indicate that the sex scenes are seriously spicy!

In all, I love the AKM series, even Io's story, who many would just love to punch into the next century, and Micah would be the one to do the honours, mind you, Sev may give a helping hand!

We backtrack a little bit with this book, going back to the end of book one. We pick up with Micah and Samantha. However, Trace's story is brought more into focus in this book as well. It was great to watch, or read, the dynamics between Micah and Trace, Micah and Sam, and even Sam and Trace. When Trace's secret comes out to Micah and even Sam, what happens? When Micah truly brings Samantha more into his world with the BDSM lifestyle, what is her response to finding out about this? Especially after the move she made on Micah in the kitchen? Wow. This was a hot book, very erotic, very Dominant, very Alpha Male with regards to Micah and very sweet as usual with Sam. It was really cool getting to know Trace better and I cannot wait to see how this dynamic plays out. Especially with the revelations that came to light. I cannot wait for book 4.

I am so glad this novella was written. I read this book before I read Rebel Obsession, which is where you are supposed to have read it and looking back there are a few things in the next book that you just would not have understood as much if you do not read this.

As the title says this novella is set during the time of Micah’s calling as him and Sam are growing closer and getting to know each other a lot better. However not only does this novella give us more Micah and Sam hotness but it also lets us see more into their relationship as well as how Trace fits in with them. It provides a little background on Trace also and I for one can’t wait to read Trace’s story. He is so powerful but also so vulnerable. I enjoyed Sam getting introduced into the BDSM lifestyle as well as starting to find herself and what she desires.

There is a lot to this short novella that really adds a lot of background to these three and I would definitely recommend reading this if you are reading the AKM’s series.

This is the third book I have read by this author. I liked it better than the first two but it's still not quite up to the 4 star mark for me. Maybe because it's storyline is overlapping the first two and it's listed as 2.5 in the read order. There is a section that is verbatim from the first then continues with what happened later in the evening. There is repetition about certain things but not as much as the second book has in it. I think this stems from trying to make it seem as if it's a stand-a-lone book than a book in a series. Sometimes I think this tends to sabotage an author more than help a reader. The interaction's here are more fluid than the second and more in keeping with the first. Definitely a better read. I would have given it a 3 and a half rating. I see the building of characters and I think she will get better with time. All in all a good read.

This was a great follow up vignette really allowing us into more of Micah and Sam's life. They're just getting established together and still have a lot to learn about each other. The bond is there and they truly love each other, but there's a side of himself that Micah hasn't shared with Sam yet, and it's one he would like to. Opening up about being a Dom and showing her to his dungeon just intrigues Sam more and exploring this side of themselves leads to them learning more about Trace and what he deals with.

I loved how this all worked out and got Micah to learn more about what Trace was hiding. Trace needs Micah to help him maintain his balance and for me the way this all fell out made such perfect sense for the three of them. I'm more and more intrigued by Trace and can't wait for his story even though I know it's a ways down the line.

A perfect short to accompany Micah, Sam and Trace's story. These three are so interwoven, I can't imagine reading about one of them without the other two. This gives more insight into Micah and Sam's relationship, and how Trace becomes more than just a friend, something a whole lot more that is difficult to label. I can't wait to read more about the AKM and these three in particular.

Once again, extremely well-written and a wonderful addition to the series. Definitely recommended.

Micah's Calling (All The King's Men, #3) is a Paranormal Erotic Romance. The pace is steady but not fast. We do learn more about the connection between Micah, Trace and Samantha. The relationship between Micah and Sam is very intimate and enhanced by Micah's calling. The link between the three of them is complex. More than friends or family, but not quite lovers. The BDSM in the story mostly concerns Trace and how it is an essential part of their bond.
The first few chapters needed a lot more action and less repetition of Micah's thoughts. It was good, but could have been a lot better if it moved faster.

Wow, just wow! I finished the last page and was emotionally exhausted. But in a very good way. This isn't just about Micah answering to the primitive call of his nature. It's about looking inside yourself to get tot he core of what you are. Micah speaks repeatedly about how Sam has reawakened something inside of him. But we also see Sam and Traceon on their own inward journey. While the Calling may not result in Sam's pregnancy due to her recent trauma, it does give birth to a new dynamic between the three that will have far reaching results. Master Micah is known for his mind fucks, and author Donya Lynne is earning the same reputation herself.

In this novella we get to see yet another side of Micah. The bond grows ever stronger between him and Sam. I love how Sam just seems to take everything in her stride, this is a whole new world for her in more ways than one, but by the end of this book, we see she has complete trust in Micah, and they are utterly devoted to each other, such a deep and tender love they share. The couple form a special friendship with Traceon, the three have become more like family, taking care and watching out for the other. Interesting to learn more about Traceon and his unusual abilities and what he needs to be able to control them....wow, can't wait to read his story.

Was thrilled for this supplement to the All The King's Men series. After reading the first two books I needed to know more and Donya has given us that with Micah's Calling. Micah and Sam are the perfect match as mates and while Sam is a strong female, it only makes their bond stronger. Traceon's role in their lives, and theirs in his, adds another level to the story that made it even more interesting for me. Keeping my fingers crossed that Donya has more for us from this series, and especially hoping for more about Trace. Thanks for another great read!

I realize this is a supplement to the first book but it is not as good as the first book. This is the continuation of Sam and Micah's relationship with a little of how Trace plays a role. The first book ended abruptly and this one did also. Micah got a little too sappy for me in this one. I will say that I was surprised at how Trace fit in. I enjoyed reading the first book (which was free), but hesitate to buy anymore in this series because of how the first book and the novella left me hanging.

I just finished this book with my hand over my heart a smile on my face and a sigh. LOVED IT!! I loved Micah & Sam in Rise of the Fallen and then in Heart of the Warrior I got to see another side of Micah that made me fall in love a little more. Now I think I am hopelessly in love with Micah & Sam. They are oh so sweet. There are moments where I busted out laughing and parts I just sighed and was in awe of the love they share. Can't help but to love Trace also and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.

I really enoyed Michah's Calling. This novella bridges books two and three in the all The King's Men fabulously steamy paranormal series. It gives you more insight to the expanding relationship between Micah, Sam, and Traceon. This series just gets more intense and I found myself thinking about the characters long after I finished the book. What comes next for the the AKM family. I can't wait to see!

It had been quite sometime since I had read the first books in this series and I had to reread them because I had forgotten much of the backstory on the characters involved. Needless to say I was glad I did. For the longest time I was wracking my brain trying to remember where I had read the best D/s scene between two men that I had ever read. It was in Micah's Calling

If you like the Black Dagger Brotherhood series you will like All the Kings Men, similar but definitely different.

I had a little trouble getting through this one. While I love the story, the BDSM scene with Trace was a little hard to read. I totally understand that he needed this in order to keep his powers in check so he doesn't change into a mutant.

I loved watching Micah and Sam during Micah's calling (fertile time). The scenes were pretty hot! The book was good, but the BDSM scene made me a little uncomfortble. I commend Donya for tackling this topic. It was very well-written.

Ms Lynne's writing just keeps getting better. This novella is a supplement/continuation of Sam and Micah's story from Rise of the Fallen. Their love continues to grow and the trust they have at the end is limitless. The friendship and trust of Trace grows to new levels for them too. There is a higher degree of BDSM in this book but needed to show us Trace's role in Sam and Micah's lives. Again a great book to an awesome series.

Wow this was a hot read. The book had me fanning myself followed by cups of cold water. Micah and Sam bonding while Micah goes through his calling (hot). Micah got his mojo back; I love their relationship and how they interact with each other. Then the friendship bonding of Micah, Sam, and Traceon (hot and spicy). I'm so into Trace. He's mysterious, strong, powerful. Looking forward to reading his book.

A sweet little novella that packs a full novel dose

3 of my favorite characters from the first novel had some unfinished business. In their friendship and bonding they still had some secrets between them that interferes with their ability to support one another. This book helps to get behind the curtains and bring light to the dark spots so they can really be what each other needs.

This was an excellent novella add on to All The Kings Men. Really love Micah and Samantha. It was really great to see Traceon get the help he needed to maintain his power and the good friends he cares for to be the ones to help him. Hope the next book gets him his own bonded mate. Keep them coming Donya.

Perfect! This is the perfect companion to the first book in the series. I wasn't ready to let go of Micah and Sam and this gave me exactly what I wanted. Of couse my appetite for Trace was whetted in the first book and this keeps building onto the mystery of his character. I can't wait to see what else will happen with the rest of AKM.
