I picked this up and in a charity shop in Whitby where Captain Cook hails from. It tells the story of his second voyage of discovery and I guess most would read about his adventures on The endeavour first rather than his trip on the Resolution. So this book is probably not widely read. I was worried it might be academic and feel like I was studying rather than reading for pleasure, however I was pleasantly surprised that the author got the balance just right. It is rich in details because the Naval voyagers had to keep logs and journals of everything they did . It is astonishing to think about how far they traveled in a wooden ship , a journey I couldn’t even contemplate on a plane ! Very interesting to read about all the untouched cultures they encountered and equally sad to think about how they now have all but disappeared.
If you have an interest in Captain cook or this age of discovery I would highly recommend it.
