I received a free copy of this book for review.

This latest Zombie Fairytale is certainly not your children's bedtime story. Set in a fairtyale world full being overran with the zombie plague we find Wendy Darling wanting to die so she doesn't have to grow up. Enamored of Peter Pan she wishes to die and join his band of zombie children. Meanwhile, the townspeople are enlisting the aid of the Pied Piper to asist the town and rid them of this menace. As always, Richey does a wonderful job of blending these two stories along with the macabre and giving us a wonderfully horrible original tale.

As with the others before it, its not necessary to have read the ones before it to enjoy this one. There are elements from the previous stories that have been woven in so if you have read them you will notice. But if you haven't, you will still recognize who is who.

If you love a good zombie story or even enjoy horror you will like this series. This one appeals more to the child in all of us that wishes we didn't have to grow up.

It was good to finally read about the mysterious Peter Pan figure that's appeared in a couple of the other stories. But I felt very sorry for poor Wendy - too young to be a grown up, and too old to be accepted as a child.

As someone who's not really into zombies, I wasn't sure I would enjoy these stories, but as a free boxset (it was on offer when I bought it), I thought it was worth a look as I do love fairytales, and I wasn't disappointed. They are both very different from, and yet contain very clear nods to the originals. All have zombie plague themes running through them, and you need to read through them in the boxset order as there are references to the earlier stories in the later ones. These are definitely not for children, as they are very violent and often disturbing stories, but if you like fairytale retellings and/or zombies, this is definitely a set of short stories for you!

I am 88% thru this story and I am finding myself straining to continue. Not because of how it was written, or that it is a zombie portrayal of my favorite character/fantasy story (which I'm in love with), but rather for the fact that I just know what is going to fall in place in the ending of this tale.

4.8 * to be exact.

Kevin Richey did an amazing job on the execution of explaining Peter's after life within this collection. I won't lie, I was very curious (and somewhat concerned) on how he would have conceived such a weary combination. He stayed true to the character (in both mannerisms and description), as well as memorable keys from the original tale. One thing I both loved and hated was his portrayal of Wendy Darling. As I said, I am only 2/3 of the way finished, but as of right now I am still not holding high spirits for the child (never did from the original tale, personal reasons). I was even concerned with how Capt. Hook would be in the story and, to be honest, I love what Kevin did to contort him into this tale. Bravo on that little take; it was brilliant, as well as fetching.

I will add a bit more to my review when I am finished with the tale, but the ending...Oh, how I'm dreading it (though I'm sure I will still love it, nonetheless).

[Edit]
Okay, okay, I admit it--better than I had expected. Although, completely for reasons of my own person, I still dislike Wendy. Just the real portrayal of such a character in this realm heightens that dislike; I know, for her character, why she did the things she did and I wouldn't have her any other way. The ending for her fit brilliantly with the rest of the tale, and I feel she quite deserved it.

All in all, I find it a most fitting tale to share of what happened toward the end of life within the village: wonderfully written, gentle flow, and a strain on one's own childhood wants and needs versus logic sense (which I find compliments the original telling of Peter Pan). Not to mention, Peter and the Lost Children were just too freaking adorable. I still have a few more to complete the collection and am very excited to read them!

{My Thoughts} – This is an interesting take on the Wendy, Peter Pan and Hook story. I really enjoyed reading about what could have been, should have been or the way things can be twisted to be turned into something that is possible when you really put your mind to thinking about it.

Wendy is a girl that never wants to grow up and when she discovers Peter Pan he gives her that option. However, the option isn’t really made for her it’s made for her brothers, because as her father had simply stated earlier she is too old. Peter seemed to think she was too old to be turned into a live forever child like himself and the other children that he’d been taking each night and turning into one of his own.

Her parents leave in the night to go to a secret meeting where they discuss how to deal with all the change in their town. They decide the way to deal with it is to hire someone that was appointed through the now dead priest.

Wendy even though she was rejected wants to become one of Peter’s kind. She decides to follow him in order to stop the guy that her parents hire to kill him. She finds out too soon how impossible that is and the guy hired to kill him finds out that life and the way he’d always seen it isn’t the way it will remain.

If you want to find out what has happened throughout the series thus far, you will need to read the previous stories. If you want to know what happens to Wendy and if she ever gets to be a part of Peter’s kind or what comes of the guy her parents hire you will need to read this story. I promise if you enjoyed the others you’ll enjoy this one too.

Reading this made me sad that I’m now too old to join Peter and his zombie band. Peter was absolutely enchanting! I know that you’re not meant to fall for Kevin Richey’s zombie charters but there is something so wonderful about each one that you can’t help but love them all a little. When I saw that he was doing a version of Peter Pan I was so happy because it is one of my favourite books but then I though how is he going to bring in the flying and fairies etc. because Neverland is a world so unlike the Zombie one. But he knew just what he was doing once again nothing was left out. I am such a big fan of these stories not a single one has let me down and I am so excited about next month’s tale that once again I just can’t wait.

When I was a kid I could not wait to grow up and get a job. Although nowadays I take that back. Peter Pan was not one of my favorites but Kevin gave me a read to remember.

Wendy doesn't want to grow up after her father locks her in the nursery with her brothers she invites Peter in through the window. Instead he turns to her brothers biting and taking their bodies away, leaving Wendy begging to be one of the undead. After her adventure and killing Hook (aka Pied Piper) she becomes what she wants. Undead but you must read to find out.

Kevin Richey takes every child's dream to another level. An Undead child forever are you game. A Zombie tale to remember.

I guess I just don't get it. There were no traces of the original book except some of the names, the setting was different and oddly medieval, no London, no Neverland, no pirates, no lost boys ... but maybe I'm missing something. Maybe being grossed out is enough for some, and the book achieves that exceptionally well. Who needs interesting characters when you can have blood and gore and zombie babies, right? I don't think I've ever seen a "heroine" as stupid and one-note as this Wendy, and I read oldschool gothic romances on the regular. Sadly, this was still a better Pan adaption than Once Upon a Time did, so there's that ...

OH WOW! That is what I have to say about this story. I loved Wendy through the whole story. I saw her in a completely different light than the original story. I loved the twist on the Pied Piper. I think this may be one of my favorite stories so far by Mr. Richey. I cannot wait to read about the Little Mermaid this coming month.

OK you may think these books are a wee bit sick (my 18 yr old says they ruin his childhood fairy tales) but I do love the humor and continuity of Mr Richey's intertwining of the these old classics w/a wee bit of a twist. I look forward to the 13th of every month just for this series.

Wow is what I have to say! From Wendy wanting to be a zombie with Peter Pan to the Pied Piper and his fate involving a hook. Not as gory as the rest but a very enjoyable read. Can't wait for the next!!!

This book was better than the last couple, at least it had more of a plot. At this point, wondering how the series will end?

It was OK

It wasn't something I really liked that much. The little mermaids one was good, but this one was just.... disturbing
