A bit outdated (I would recommend skipping Ch. 2 entirely if you're under 60), but overall straightforward and easily understood. It's a good place to start if you're trying to build your understanding of print production from the ground up.

Massive book and lots of tecnical terms. I think this would be a really good book if you were actually working with this kind of stuff.
