Bankrupt, homeless and alone, Lorelei St. James is an heiress on the edge. Yet she hides her desperation behind her glossy blond hair and even brighter smile. Getting lectured on her driving by a hot-tempered—and ridiculously attractive—stranger will not be what shatters her carefully crafted facade!
Legendary Australian racing driver Nash Blue knows a thing or two about pride and sees straight through Lorelei's polished front. Her vulnerabilities play havoc with his concentration. Never shy of a challenge, he begins his biggest yet: unwrapping the real Lorelei St. James….
Her heroines are unconventional, quirky, unusual and surprising. Her heroes are totally gorgeous alpha males and the settings beyond stunningly glamorous.
Pride after her Fall has one of the most surprising.......amazing plots ever!! I was "watching" a movie inside my head!!!
Okay, so we have a French/American heiress/socialite down on her luck....yes, she lives in a fabulous and "decaying" Baroque villa in Monaco but hasn't got the money for the upkeep. Her father is a modern day gigolo who has been "jailed" for "fleecing" one of his "conquests. The banks are about to kick her out of her home.....her flighty mom...oh she's somewhere in the USA...........she's ostracized by society and spends her nights and days doing something ....never mind.....Lorelei St James is at a very low point in her life!!!!
Enter Nash Blue (don't u love this name!!!!), Australian (wow...that's a change from Russian oligarchs, Greek ship-owners and Italian zillionaires!!!! This Aussie is a former world F1 formula driver, who now builds racing supercars and of course he also does some charity work!!!
And that is what Lorelei and Nash have in common!!! Charity work!!!
This was a total fun read. There are some over the top scenes that I just loved..........when Lorelei throws her shoe....and not just any shoe.............
at the guy who dares to tow her illegally parked Sunbeam Alpine Mk2.
The author mentions in her website that this story was inspired by the Grace Kelly movie, "To Catch A Thief"......so it goes to say that I couldn't get that out of my mind......there were actually a lot of things about Lorelei that reminded me of Grace Kelly.........
Tortured, engaging, damaged, flawed but human characters...........ooh yes!! Exotic locations...........yep....Monaco & Mauritius
A surprising and unexpected story, which totally engrossed me.
At first I wanted to give this book a 3,5 star rating....why? I thought Nash was a bit of a twat towards Lorelei....I wanted her to give him more of a hard time and let him do some really hard grovelling.....which never happened..............but wait.........I've changed my mind...........4 stars...........because, hell this guy was a hot lover!!!! Was he a sizzle under the sheets!!! Just kidding...........the real truth??? I couldn't stop turning the pages and finished reading this book in one "sitting."
I made it 24% in and we were still within the same four hours or so of the hero and heroine meeting and they did not have a meet nice, and yeah. I feel like this is not going to get better.
I am in a bit of a quandary about this book, because on the one hand, I really liked the story and mostly liked the characters and thought the writing was good, and on the other, certain little bits of the book made me a bit cross. I loved Lorelei as a character, I really enjoyed reading about her, but for someone who's supposed to be really smart and pulled together and everything, she really acted quite stupid in places. And Nash spends the whole book making veiled hints about his unhealthy childhood, but then when he talks to Lorelei about his brother, the main issue seems to be that he's a terrible person cos he's successful but his brother's not. You really just think the pair of them, despite how engaging they are, need to learn about personal responsibility and this annoyed me, because this was not the kind of thing I wanted to thinking about when reading a Mills & Boon novel. Still, overall I did like this book so I'm giving it 3 stars.
my 1st book by lucy ellis and i was clearly impressed as the book was intense. compared to other harlequins, it had depth. but i was a bit pissed off with nash's attitude. he did not treat lorelie well even though he did help her while lorelie lacked pride and allowed him to use her for sex. yes that's the impression i got. that's why the book lost stars for me
This was more than just a typical romance story with angst. I really felt for both Nash and Lorelei this was a story of healing and learning to trust. Well done. Yes, there was adult content but I was captured by the characters and the story itself.

Beautiful settings in Monaco and Mauritius. ..this is my first Lucy Ellis book and I quite like it! I like both H and h as both craved security and love they never got even as children. The overwhelming tenderness that comes through their love scenes and how each time Nash hurts Lorelei by pushing her away all got to me. Yet the moment Nash lays eyes on Lorelei he could not resist her...hot!
