After being wrongfully convicted of a crime and losing custody of her daughter, all single mother Laura White wants is her little girl back. But she'll need a job and a real home first. When Dr. Jesse Alvarez Cooper hires her as housekeeper at his Oklahoma ranch, Laura is grateful. The handsome cowboy doctor, with a harrowing past that stretches continents, also vows to help her get her child back. Suddenly, Laura's dreams may come true—two permanent place settings added around the Cooper family table.
Brenda Minton lives, procrastinates, writes, drinks coffee, raises her kids and is wife to her husband, in the Ozarks.
Okay, now to first person because a third person bio sounds like someone else wrote it about me, and is just license to create flowery prose about myself.
I grew up on a farm in the Ozarks. It was long ago and far away, in a land before cable TV, video games and the internet. To pass the time we read books, watched (gasp) network TV that rarely came in clear, and had friends over on weekends to play music on the front porch, or card games in the dining room.
The result of growing up 'country' was an active imagination. For fun I wrote stories to entertain myself and I dreamed of being an author. Oh, but first, before writing, I wanted to be a jockey.
Writing won out over being a jockey. In the spring of 2006 I got the call that made those dreams come true: the call that welcomed me into the Steeple Hill family of authors.
The Cowboy's Healing Ways is the 4th book in the Cooper Creek series. It is a Love Inspired book about Laura White who loses custody of her daughter after being wrongly convicted of a crime. She must turn her life around in order to get her daughter back; To do that will have to find a place to live and a job-enter Dr. Jesse Alvarez Cooper. Jesse hires Laura as a housekeeper and along with his family, helps Laura get back on her own feet. What neither the broken Laura or the planning Jesse expected though was the pulling attraction they feel towards one another. One has plans that don't include a relationship and the other won't let what she feels hurt her or her daughter.
Years ago, I use to often read Love Inspired books quite often and enjoyed them. Over the years though I've shied away from them and found interest in other types of books and haven't picked one up in awhile. During my last trip to the library, and browsing the shelves, I came across a few titles that sounded interesting and decided to give them a try again. After not reading one of these types of books in years, I would have to say it's a slightly different path/experience than some other books.
I was pleasantly surprised though to find that I enjoyed returning to this type of book. They deliver inspirational stories with down to earth characters and themes. While these books to feature christian themes and focus on belief and faith, you are still able to enjoy the story however these things may impact your own life.
I enjoyed meeting the Cooper family in this story; they are such a close, loving family. Minton did a wonderful job creating likable characters, a wonderful plot, and an inspirational story. I look forward to both checking out more of the Cooper Creek series, and other Love Inspired books in the near future.
This was a good Happily Ever After short read. Laura was wrongfully convicted of a crime she didn't commit and lost custody of her daughter. Now she is out of jail and ready to make a new start for herself in order to earn custody of her daughter back. She heads to a small town in Oklahoma where her aunt lives in hopes of getting help. She lands a job as a housekeeper for a sexy cowboy doctor named Jesse Cooper. This was a heartfelt story of faith, love and facing your past in order to build a new future.
"The Cowboy's Healing Ways" was absolutely excellent and did not disappoint me in the least. In fact, it has been my favorite book in the Cooper Creek Series thus far. I completely fell in love with Jesse, Laura, and adorable little Abigail. This novel was quite simply perfection and I would recommend it to fans of the CCS or anyone who enjoys reading a fantastic Christian romance.
Easy to read Contemporary Christian Romance. Not very religious, in fact I was surprised how little the male lead prayed. I haven't read any other books in this series but there are a lot of siblings to keep track of.
Ohh this is the kinda of books i love for just relax and have a great time!.. Just wonderful, more than once i had that moment of: noooo, please don't.. I'm glad all the end more than well. Lovely :)
I am a forever fan of this author after discovering her books a few months ago. She has about 40 or more and I am having the best time catching up! This one, like her others I've read, is perfect. She writes with a great heart for God and has wonderful plots and characters.
Laura, having served 3 months in jail, is having a hard time getting a job. Jessie was willing to believe her and give her a chance at a job so Laura could bring her daughter home! God and love really work
I know this series has been out for awhile but I just found it and it’s so good each story has a good ending and awesome lesson in it. If you’re not read the series you should
You know you’re reading a good book when you care about the characters like they are real! All the books in the series are like that. Can’t wait to start the next book in the series!
This is such a beautiful story, Jesse Cooper is an amazing man, who helped and save Laura White is so many ways. He provide her with a job, as a housekeeper, a beautiful home to live, getting custody of her daughter, Abagail. His family is genuinely loving, compassionate and kind.
This is the 2nd book I read by Brenda Minton. I really liked this book's story line. I really liked Laura's character. My heart broke for Laura. I really liked Jesse's character. I really liked how Jesse helped Laura. I liked the ending.
I can’t help it, every time I spot a BRENDA MINTON book at the store I get excited. If I’m currently reading a book, I have to fight not to stop reading that one, and read MS MINTON’S instead.
One thing I can be sure of when I open up to the first page of a BRENDA MINTON book, I’m going to be swept away. Swept away in an amazing story with characters that I will fall in love with and wish I could walk into their world.
Laura White is down on her luck when she’s driven off the road by a sweet, elderly woman. When her handsome grandson comes to the rescue, Laura doesn’t trust him as much as he is leery of her. He may be a doctor, but the caring man has the potential to break her heart. Something she’s experienced one too many times.
Jesse Cooper isn’t happy that his grandmother is so willing to take in a stranger. One that seems to be hiding something. In time he discovers not only is Laura to be trusted, she just may be the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
I feel like a broken record when reviewing a BRENDA MINTON book. How many ways can I say that I love her writing and the stories she gifts her readers with. Never tired of her novels, as I finish one, I wait with baited breath for the next.
I love Jesse Cooper, just as I have loved the rest of the Cooper men. Sweet and caring come to mind when I think of his character. Laura’s story is refreshingly unique. An ending can make or break a story. THE COWBOY’S HEALING WAYS has one of the sweetest and endearing endings I’ve read.
Dr. Jesse Alvarez Cooper had always had a plan, a plan that didn’t include getting married before he was 35. All his life he thought God was calling him to mission field, but what if it wasn’t a far off mission field but one closer to home. Laura White has had a hard life with a past that she wants to put behind her. The only thing that she wants is her daughter back she never planned on falling in her. These two thought they had their lives all planned but God had other plans. As the Love Inspired line and authors like to show is that no matter what God is still control and His for us are far better than our own.
I have yet to read a book by Brenda Minton that I have not loved and this one was no different! Everytime I read one of her Cooper Creek books I fall a little more in love with the Cooper family. I had never really paid to omuch attention to Jesse before this book but his story was so good and I loved the way Brenda developed his character!! The book made me laugh and made me cry but most of all it made me once again want to visit Cooper Creek. I just bought her newest book and can not wait to start reading it soon!!
I read this book in one day but they are short books anyway. Me and my grandmother are in this book club together and get these every month or two months, trade them out and then I either keep them or trade them in to our trade in book, dvd, cd and a few other things store :) It's called McKay's and it's in Chattanooga, Knoxville and Nashville currently.
I really loved this book. The story is better than I thought it would be so this one is a keeper!
This was a very sweet story. I enjoyed getting to know Jesse, and meeting Laura and Abigail. I liked how the author used the story to remind us that there are people who keep the promises they make, but wish she had developed that idea even further to include how God always keeps His promises. I'm looking forward to the next installment in the Cooper Creek series.
This is a good book. "Good" being the operative word. It is a light, short, and easy read. Nothing to make you think or digest. Jesse was amazing, but Laura was rather lackluster. She isn't boring, but I spent most of the book wondering why he fell so hard and fast. Abigail, of course, was really adorable.
Nice easy read, but very predictable. Love Inspired are easy to read when in the right mood, and this one is no different. There's all levels of love: self, familial, spousal, and religious. The predictability can be heart warming when life is stressful and unpredictable.
What a wonderful read! Kept my attention, and loved all the details and descriptions-felt I was right there with Laura and Jesse and all the people and places in Cooper Creek.
