I was in need of some real life true love stories that would make me celebrate my relationship with my boyfriend, and I remember coming across this book on one of our first dates, which conveniently was in a bookstore ha! So I picked it up the next time I saw it in MPH Bookstore, and so glad I did! This book is filled with so many wonderful stories of true love, marriages and overcoming life obstacles as a couple. It really did inspire me knowing that no two relationships are the same and we each have our own challenges to face.

It also made me think a lot of the marriages of my parents and grandparents and how I have been seeing true love in front of me for years, even if they may seem unconventional.

At the end of the day, this is a wonderful book that moved me to tears multiple of times, and I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a little strength in your own relationship :)

I am currently not considered part of a couple. But I once was, so I feel qualified to review this book. Chicken Soup for the Couple's Soul is all about relationships. Filled with short stories, it is meant to inspire and move you.

This book was filled with short stories over a variety of topics involving couples. These topics include: Love & Intimacy, Finding True Love, On Commitment, Understanding Each Other, Overcoming Obstacles, On Family, The Flame That Still Burns, & Eternal Love. Strangely enough though, the majority of these stories seemed to involve someone dying. I get that it's a true test to watch a loved one die. But it's depressing, and not uplifting in the least. There were stories in here that didn't involve dying of course, but a lot of them involved children. I never really got a sense of the true celebration of being a "couple" from this book. Now I'm not going to say a couple of these didn't make me cry, because a few did.

There was a lot of dedication in this book. But a couple of the stories just made me raise an eyebrow because of the people in them. I had to wonder if they were true because human nature makes it hard to find so many dedicated people. Now granted they weeded out some of the bad, so it's a possibility that all the people in here were good people and their relationships were true. Like with most short stories though, you're just starting to feel attached to the people when the story is over already.

I've already told you about my problems with the types of stories included in this book. As I said, there is just too much dying and not enough joy. I'm not inspired by death even if it does show the dedication and heart of the other spouse. It just makes me sad for them. And this one was also a rather religious book (it is a Christian publication) but it made it seem as if Christian relationships held together longer, and statistically that isn't the case. It just wasn't as approachable in that regard as some of the other Chicken Soup books are.

Two and a half stars for this one. It just wasn't the warm fuzzy type of book a book about couples should be. But if you're a die hard Chicken Soup for the Soul fan, you may enjoy it.

"Pesan Terakhir"

Kamar rumah sakit tampak tenang dan remang. Waktu berjalan lamban.
(Karen Corkern)

melewati tahun demi tahun
aku akan berjalan bersamamu-
di dalam hutan yang lebat menghijau;
di pantai-pantai berpasir;
dan bila waktu kita
di dunia sudah habis
di sorga kelak,
kau akan tetap
menggandeng tanganku (Robert Sexton)

I read this book hoping for some uplifting love stories that would want us to just sigh and dream. But alas, most stories were depressing! I didn't want to read about death and separation. I wanted the in-betweens of the happily ever after and the till death do us part. But overall, this was a nice little something for some light reading. :)

I started this book after I read "Looking for Alaska."I have not finished it yet but I knew that this would be a good book to choose because these books generally have inspirational poems or songs that move the reader. I have read a lot of these books and I am always moved by poems people have written so I knew this would fit the criteria needed for the Reading Portfolio well. I am still in the process of reading it but pick it up every now and then for a few quick stories. These books are always a fast read because the stories always pull me in. I also really enjoy the variety of stories. When I want a good cry I can find a sad story here or if I want a good laugh or just to read an uplifting story you can always find one of those in these books.

If you are looking for inspiring romantic stories, look no further! I could not get enough! Not only were the stories very well written, but I found that they were very relateable. This book put me in a place where I was truly able to self reflect and uncover true appreciation for the beautiful love I have in my life. I truly feel that for these Chicken Soup books, that is the kind of emotion the authors initially wanted to evoke in their readers, and they did a fabulous job of doing just that.

Stories about love from the general public, famous people, contributors and reprints from other sources.
While most of the stories are touching, some of the stories about illness and loss are depressing. Memories are fickle, in that we tend to forget some of the negative things that happened to us, when asked to tell stories about our loves.
Some of the stories read more like works of fiction. There was also an abundance of stories where love was assisted with the aid of God and angels.

I enjoy the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, but this one didn't seem to have the "spark" to it I just wasn't left with the inspirational uplift I have gotten from the others. Perhaps the previous ones left me with higher expectations for this one. Cjs

I have read several books in this series and enjoy them. Some of the stories are better than others, but there is definitely inspiration within the book. The books are just relaxing, easy reads, and most of the stories are short, so it is easy to put down and go back to.

I usually love the chicken soup series..it makes me think, cry and rejoice. That was not the case for this one. It just made me depressed and listless. Too many stories of death and tragedy left me feeling disturbed rather than happy.

None of the stories in this collection were really that inspiring or life changing. The writing was plain, stilted, and often riddled with mistakes (which could have been a printing issue). I wanted this to be a lot more than it ended up being.
