Favorite Lines: “Ariana, I’ve done things I’m not proud of. I’ve tried resisting the urges, but I’ve never made it long. In fact, resisting them seems to make things worse. I’ve blocked out and woken up in pools of blood, unsure where I am or what I’ve done.” (p. 203, e-galley)

I’ve been enjoying Kristin Miller‘s Vampires of Crimson Bay series and couldn’t wait to read book three, Last Vamp Standing. In the previous book, Vamped Up, we got to know a little bit about Dante. Enough that I knew his story would be good.

Last Vamp Standing is the final book in Miller’s Crimson Bay trilogy. Do not read it as a stand alone. It is where all the previous stories have been leading and to a final show down with the series’ bad guy Savage. It takes place primarily in the secret land of the hidden vampire haven Black Moon. Living inside the walls of Black Moon are elders, but surrounding the haven are a mysterious people.

The heroine, Ariana, takes on a huge roll in her haven. She is revered by those around her but that leaves her alone. She doesn’t feel part of the elders living there as they all seem to defer to her. Her haven has an exclusive “elders only” rule so when her love interest Dante tells her of the Crimson Bay area vampires’ needs she doesn’t see how she can help. Ariana also doesn’t know that she’s part of an elaborate scheme which affected her past and affects all of the vampires’ futures.

Dante is our tortured hero. Dude has some serious issues, but can’t hide his fascination of Ariana. He is a protector so expect him to fight his base urges in hopes of saving her from himself. In previous books the reader was able to see Dante in action and read of other vampires’ reactions to his unvampire-like abilities. By the end of the trilogy expect to have a clear understanding of where Dante comes from and where he belongs.

It took me a while to get into Last Vamp Standing. I think if I’d have been able to put down book two, Vamped Up, I’d have had an easier time slipping back into the world. However, once I reestablished myself in Crimson Bay I couldn’t put Last Vamp Standing down. I like knowing books having a clear ending and that is exactly what Miller gives with this installment. All my questions have been answered and I’m ready to move on to Miller’s newest work.

Last Vamp Standing picks up immediately after Vamped Up ends. Savage is still annihilating every haven he finds in an attempt to absorb as many mawares that he can. The vamps of Crimson Bay have found out about a hidden haven, Black Moon. It has always been a hidden sanctuary for elders only. Now the havenless vampires need a place to hide from Savage and the hidden elders are going to need help in defending themselves from Savage. Joining forces would make sense, but nothing is ever that simple.

Dante quickly became my favorite hero in this series. He is so tortured by the things that he does not know or understand about himself. He is tormented by guilt over someone he has harmed in his past. He has learned how to manipulate his hungers in an effort to feed them without harming innocents. No matter what Dante does though he can’t get the hungers to completely go away and at the end of the day he is still alone in this world.

I liked Ariana as a heroine. She has sacrificed much for her haven at Black Moon. She has spent her time finding elders and bringing them into Black Moon. Her maware allows her an advantage in this task. It is her visits to the black market in her hunt for elders that lands Dante in her life. She soon discovers that she can’t get him out of her thoughts. She knows he is hiding something from her. The more time that she spends with him the more she wants to know about those secrets.

Last Vamp Standing wraps up in a way that I’m left feeling like this could be the end of the series. I’m wondering if Vampires of Crimson Bay is in fact a trilogy. I’ve enjoyed this series from the very beginning. I have to admit that I am a sucker for prophecies and lost texts that reveal cryptic messages. Many of the characters in this series have turned out to be something more or something different than they had assumed. These are the mysterious elements that have made this series such pleasurable reads.

YAY!! I'M DONE!! I do not recommend this book to anyone. About 85% of the way through the book it finally gets on with the story that was started 2 books before. Even then it's only a few pages long. The rest of the book is all about how he likes her and she likes him and they really want to hit the bedroom but it of course takes them forever! It's basically an entire book of filler, filler, filler. She should have just ended this series in the 2nd book and had a duo instead of trying to make a whole book out of the small amount of story that she had left. The first 2 books are worth reading, they aren't great but I believe I rated them 3 stars each, but this book stunk especially as the last of a trilogy. Is there such a thing as negative stars? If so I would rate it -5 stars.

Last Vamp Standing was a fast-paced, smoking hot page turner, and a great end to a fantastic series.

Dante, the male lead, is deliciously tortured, and I fell for him almost immediately. I'm going to quote Meredith Grey from one of my fav T.V. shows, Grey's Anatomy, and say that he's "dark and twisty", and man do I love that about him. Dante's inner demons play a pivotal role in his relationship with the female lead, Ariana, as well as with the plot itself. Good stuff!

Much like the previous two books, the female lead is strong and well-crafted as well, as are the supporting characters.

If you're a fan of dark paranormal, this book is definitely for you. A real page turner!

It took me awhile to get into this book, but I think that's just because I'm an idiot and picked up yet another book in the middle of a series. Oops.
All of that aside, it was pretty good.
I had some issues with some of the names though. The big baddie was named Savage. Let's face it, with that name, he wasn't going to be a good guy... The main male character was Dante, which I'm becoming to think is slightly overused in things where the supernatural is involved. And there was a Dylan, which took me awhile to realize it was a female character. But, that's my issue, still a good book.
