There are two things that happen when you graduate university:

1: You realize you'll be working for the next forty years...a realization that requires alcohol

2. You start to wonder when you're supposed to fall in love

Somewhere in between all of that, you'll find: office friends, office dimwits, good days, bad days, and a Human Resources manager that's out to get you.

You also might find an attractive guy from an office transfer, and that's when things start to get complicated...

This short story is a prequel to "Year of the Chick," and it tells the tale of a semi-normal main character, before she became all crazy and obsessed with finding love to avoid arranged marriage (that's what "Year of the Chick" is all about).

Length: 10,100 words

The first book in this series showed up on my free books for Kindle email. When I read the blurb about it, I was intrigued because I have recently become acquainted with a young man from India, living in the US who is about to be married after his parental arranged marriage. In further investigation, I discovered that their was a prequel to the book plus ones that came after. Going for broke and seeing that others enjoyed the series I decided to buy them all.

It is New Year's Day so having just finished a book this morning that I started the other day I thought that I would start this series. The prequel basically told the story of Romi entering the world of work after graduating from college. She and her sister are living away from their parents for the first time. Romi has not done much dating and is also learning how to form friendships with co-workers in a world where they are afraid that they could lose their jobs if they make the wrong move. Into the mix comes a new co-worker sent from the states. Romi forms a co-worker friendship with him which by the time she admits to herself is semi-serious on her part involves other issues.

This is basically a so-so novella. It held my interest for the length that it was but couldn't have gone on as it was for a full length novel. I am very happy though to see the ratings for the other books that follow and I look forward to reading those. It is so alien to me to think of marrying without love to a person that you don't know. It is hard enough to keep a marriage going to someone whom you married because you had things and common and loved them. Who is to say, however, that one way is better than another. I am interested in seeing if she ends up married for love or whether she is also in an arranged marriage. How much of this book is autobiographical, by the way????

When I first opened up this book I was surprised that it was only 76 pages long! It is actually a short story prequel to her 2nd book, Year of the Chick. It was decent but not really necessary IMHO. The real meat of her story is her quest to find "the one" before her parents arrange a marriage for her. Yet the prequel just delves into her developing career and crush on an unattainable co-worker. On the very last page she meets a barista at a coffee shop and then the story ends. The second book picks up sometime later and she and the barista have had a relationship which apparently ended with him moving back to London. The reader doesn't get much more information than that. You could easily pick up and read the 2nd book, and be completely unaware that there was even a prequel to begin with. It was a short, easy read but I guess I am just not really sure why Moondi felt the need to write Beginnings.

A chick-lit short story about Romi, a 20 something old, who is starting an advertising job in Toronto. A prequel for a longer book which explores the main character's beginnings. This read has me interested in reading more - but at a later date.
