It's Christmas Eve on Merryhill Farm, and Charlie can't fall asleep. There's a loud crash on the roof -- and who should appear but Santa and a broken-down sleigh. Now how will all the children in the world receive their presents? Dumpy comes to the rescue, of course, as Santa and Charlie load up Dumpy's dumper with toys, hitch up the reindeer, and set off ona glorious star-filled journey around the globe spreading love and goodwill wherever they go. Tony Walton's soft nostalgic artwork evokes the beauty of the American farm and lends a classic, old-fashioned feel to the Dumpy books.

Okay, I want to like this because it's written in part by Julie Andrews, but it's a bit wordy, and worst of all...I can't get over that they are going backwards around the world. Story-wise it sounds good, but science-wise I'm pretty annoyed. Starting in America, then going through Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, the pacific Islands, and ending in America...sorry, that's more fictional than Santa...lol.
A delight! Read this to my most skeptical students and they LOVED it! It’s rare that I find a children’s book written to the quality I expect in an adult book, but this one wins. Bravo Julie and Emma!
