Love Without Agenda: Moving our Spiritual Goalposts from Heaven & Hell to Wholeness

Rate this book
Why have so many Christians forgotten how to love?

Have we missed much of the point of Jesus because of our obsession with Heaven and Hell? We're forever arguing, theologizing, systematizing and evangelizing--all with the agenda to get to ourselves and others into one place and avoid another. Yet, Jesus steadfastly shows us a different set of spiritual goalposts. He shows us a Whole Pattern and invites us to mature into whole spiritual humans by imitating His work. He shows us how to discover our purpose by doing deeds that most reflect God in our every moment--and realizing that love can only flow from who we are and not how others respond.

We've forgotten the Jesus who loves without agenda.

This is a free e-book. No purchase necessary. For the money...it is a GREAT read. :)

Even though there were moments when I furrowed my brow in disagreement with an opinion (or thought process) shared by the author, Jimmy Spencer, the book gave me quite a few moments where I wanted to stand up and cheer, "It's about time someone wrote this down!" or "What a GREAT analogy!"

Jimmy shared at the beginning of the book that the reader would probably disagree with him at times...and encouraged us to "focus on the positive". I chose to do this. I liked his conversational style and humorous little quips throughout the book. I didn't take the time to click on all the video links and such, but I liked having the option...it was a neat approach.

I have quoted this book in conversations MANY times since I read it. Great conversation starter. Good thoughts.

I think it was a bit long for the kind of book that it is. It's hard to tell your friends to read a theological autobiography/opinion book that has more than 500 pages (even if it has a bunch of empty space and "extras" most readers would just skim over - like thank yous and such.) The rumor is that he is working on an abridged version. To which I'd say, "Yeah!"
***update***
There is a much shorter version of the book out now. Can't say I disagree with any of it! It is called Love Without Agenda, From Heaven and Hell to Wholeness.
