Jack Greene loathes author bios, thinking they ruin the mystery. But if you must, picture a handsome twenty-something insomniac: junior partner in a law firm by day, guitarist in a punk band by night. He roams the streets on his Ducati when he can't sleep, gathering material for his books, and watches the sun come up over West Hollywood as he types away at his laptop. Peace only comes when he writes the words "the end".
Jack writes about men who fuck, and love, other men. Men who, like all men, sometimes don't behave like they should.
3.25* I liked this story, it's cute and a sexy short read! Tom a bouncer at a gay club has been crushing on Andre, a regular at the club. Tom isn't gay, but he's not straight either, he knows that, especially after watching Andre for a while. My main complaint is it stops right when it's really getting started, I'm greedy and want more....
This is the short story told in the first person POV of Tom, the not-gay bouncer of a gay bar. There is a no fraternizing policy with the customers, which is very easy to adhere to because Tom isn’t gay. Right?
Tom is a great character – he knows that no one is 100% straight, and knows he isn’t that far on the straight end of the scale. He has experimented, and he likes pretty. Whether it’s male or female, he appreciates a pretty person. Hello, Andre.
Andre is Tom’s fantasy man, fragile looking yet not, beautiful and sweet. When a drunken Andre comes on to Tom, he is noble and does the right thing. Will a sober Andre want him? And will Tom accept?
Tom and Andre, just adorable. Sexy, sweet and oddly endearing (that Tom has never gone all the way with a man and is afraid “I’m probably gonna suck at it.” So cute.
The story is short and lovely. Wish it were longer, and I’d love to see more of Tom and Andre.
I always really enjoy Jack Greene's short stories. They're perfect for when you want something light, uncomplicated and undoubtedly sexy. Cherry Red is no exception and tells the story of Tom, a bouncer at a gay club who is straight. Well… mostly straight.
Tom has had some queer feelings in the past, and he's certainly not in denial about them, though he's found it easier to just say he's straight since for the most part he is. That all changed when he first met Andre, a regular at the club. Andre is a blonde model and made in the form of Tom's perfect fantasy. And after they dance around each other over time, getting to know each other a little more with teases and steamy looks over the dance floor when Tom does his rounds, Tom can see that Andre is even more of a temptation to Tom's need to rescue and protect his lovers. Now, Tom doesn't have a problem admitting to himself that instead of being mildly curious, he's definitely bi. But, if Andre has his way, he'll be gay all the way and only in his bed.
Tom and Andre are pretty great when they get together. Tom is a great guy who definitely comes off as genuine in his desire to protect Andre after some lascivious attention from the unwanted men around him. I liked that he was honorable enough protect Andre from himself at first, looking out for his best interests. I get the feeling that he's lonely, and maybe that's simply because he doesn't talk about his actual past relationships with women, but I definitely wanted him to get more than a night in the sack with Andre.
Of course, I would have liked to know a bit more about Andre -- both his character and his past and career, which are hinted at. The beginning of the story led me to wonder if someone had slipped Andre something, which made me wonder why he was out alone and not with friends. I think later I could see that he was probably doing it to force Tom into action after trying to get him to make a move for so long.
If you're in the mood for a no-strings, sexy short, Cherry Red fits the bill. I like having Jack Greene's stories around for when I'm in the mood for them. Try this one out by entering the giveaway :)
When I pick up a book written by Jack Greene, I know I’m in for a sexy, erotic and very naughty read! I love the sizzling chemistry between Mr. Greene’s heroes and always find myself re-reading his stories time and time again when I’m in the mood for a fun and spicy romance.
Tom is a straight man who works as a bouncer at a popular gay nightclub. He’s never been asked what his sexual preference is and Tom likes it that way. After all, he’s there for a job and nothing else. Despite Tom’s love for the ladies, there is one man who is a regular at the club that has caught his attention. Andre.
Andre is gorgeous, fun and very flirty. His zest for life and flirtatiousness behavior toward Tom makes the bouncer fascinated and very attracted to the sexy Andre. Tom finds himself starting to seek out Andre in the club. His need to protect the pretty man as well as his surprising attraction toward Andre makes Tom realize that he’s not as straight as he once thought he was. When Andre is attacked by a zealous admirer, Tom finds himself Andre’s self-imposed bodyguard and protector in more ways than one. Will Tom be able to work through his attraction to Andre and take a chance on a once in a lifetime love?
I loved this book! For such a short read it really packs a lot of punch. The chemistry between Andre and Tom was scorching hot! I loved the flirtatious banter the two men had between them and I adored watching these two men dance around their attraction towards each other until they finally gave into it!
Both Tom and Andre were interesting, sexy heroes that I really liked. The story itself is very fast paced and kept my attention from the first page to the last word. I do wish the book had been longer. I would have liked to have really watched these two men make room in their lives for one another, and see where they are months later. Because it is short story, there’s not a lot of back history with the heroes. I do believe that Mr. Greene did an excellent job at still getting this reader to care about heroes despite it still being a short story, plus the author writes erotic moments unlike a lot of others. Every touch and moment the characters have with each other really means something special. Highly Recommended!
I enjoyed CHERRY RED. One of the things I liked most about it is that it truly is erotica. Meaning, it has lots of sex, yet it also has a decent plot. It is a short read, but I don't feel like I missed much. Instead, it felt like I was reading about the beginning of a romance, how they met, etc. I could see future books featuring this couple and their romance.
Tom works as a bouncer in a gay club, but he claims that he's not gay. However, when gorgeous male model Andre needs his protection, Tom tries to hold back but he can't deny his desire for Andre.
I also liked having the story told in first person, as it made me feel more connected to it. The only downside is that you only get Tom's point of view, not Andre's. But it's not much of a problem in a short book like this since the focus is more on the main points of what's going on versus the details. Also, there is a lot of character development for such a short story. Tom and Andre weren't just cardboard cutouts. In terms of looks and personalities, both Tom and Andre were well written and fleshed out, which I loved.
As for the sex, it was HOT! One thing that Jack Greene does well in every book is the sex. It was hot, it was sexy, it was even kind of romantic. Another thing I liked is the amount of sex scenes. There were two and they weren't overly long or over the top. They fit in well with the story and they didn't drag it down. They were just right for the story, which doesn't happen often with shorter stories like this.
All in all, CHERRY RED was a great read, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a short and sexy read!
I love JG short stories. The bonus is the smut, they are really well written, so hot! But what I like the most, besides being relaxing stories that will always be of my taste, is that the guys are really smitten for each other and none of them is looking for just a hook-up. So while the short story is not necessarily a romance per se (at least in this case Andre and Tom knew each other -kinda- for some time), it is the beginning of one. So of course this left me wanting more.
Tom, the bouncer of a gay club, "not gay, but not completely straight either" (so bi) is smitten with the androgenous Andre. One night Tome takes Andre home since Andre is drunk. Andre tries to seduce him but Tom resists only because he doesn't want to take advantage of Andre. After a bit of kissing and groping, he flies away... isn't that nice?? But they continue where they left it next night, with a very sober Andre. And Andre is not one of those who does hook-ups; he wants a proper relationship and luckily, Tom is on board XD
A bouncer who thinks he is straight working at a gay club is an interesting place to start. Add a model who is too sexy for his own good, and you’d think they'll figure it out. Not so fast, goes the bouncer's boss, employees are not allowed to fraternize with clients… and Tom needs his job. What to do?
Tom is pretty sure he is straight – or so he likes to think. As the story progresses the truth comes out: he is actually bi, and with all the tempting eye candy at his workplace, his interest in men is becoming rather obvious really quickly. Especially one guy: the sexy model Andre, who is far above his league, according to Tom.
Andre has different ideas. He is just as determined to make this work as Tom is hesitant to believe he is suddenly more gay than bi. After a couple of very sexy seduction scenes, Andre finally succeeds in snagging Tom's attention – and what follows is an explosive encounter that has both men exhausted but wanting more.
If you like your stories hot, if lack of a real plot is not a problem for you, and if you enjoy a somewhat tongue-in-cheek writing style then you will probably like this short book.
