Prose & Contests is based on the successful online course taught by award-winning author Amy Atwell. This easy-to-read book is targeted for unpublished writers seeking feedback from and/or a chance to final in the hundreds of writing contests offered, with specific focus on RWA® chapter contests. Two chapters focus specific attention on reviewing and editing your manuscript to improve pacing and characterization.

Writing contests offer opportunities for feedback from published authors, agents and editors, but they cost money and valuable writing time. Atwell draws from her experience as an entrant (75+ contests), finalist (25+ contests), judge and contest co-ordinator to share tips on how to research and target the right contests to save you time and money. The book explains the contest process, sources for researching contests, helps writers identify their motives for entering a contest and gives tips on preparing your contest entry. An accompanying PDF packet of forms and handouts is included free.

About the author

I'm a storyteller at heart. After fifteen years in professional theater, I turned from the stage to the page to write fiction. It's been a journey honing my craft in this new medium, but my debut novel LYING EYES was a November 2010 release from Carina Press. I followed that in June 2011 with AMBERSLEY, a Regency historical romance. As a reader, I love contemporary and historical tales that combine romance and adventure. When not writing, I run an online community to help goal-oriented writers achieve their dreams.
