Undercover Copper: One Woman on the Track of Dangerous Criminals

Rate this book
Gripping and eye opening, The Girl for the Job is an exciting account of life as a female undercover cop by Danni Brooke.

‘My life was full of danger every day and I couldn’t tell my friends or family what I did for a living. My mum didn’t even know! There were definitely times I was in too deep but somehow I always got away with it.’

For over a decade Danni Brooke was one of the most effective female undercover cops in the UK, one of a very small number of women in the Met’s elite unit. She was so successful at taking down criminals that she was seconded to forces around the country.

Whether she was infiltrating organized crime gangs or disrupting drug supply lines, Danni played the innocent Essex girl, fooling even the most suspicious villains, using her quick wits to keep her out of trouble. She loved the job but the pressures of her work, and trying to balance the long hours with being a mother, were to take a toll on her personal life.

In her honest, warm and gripping memoir, Danni also reveals why she left the police, how she found a new career (and love) on C4’s Hunted – and why the thrill of covert work still pulls her into private investigations.

this was absolutely fascinating! i loved hearing about all the undercover jobs that Danni did, especially as she was a young woman in what was a male dominated field. I love anything crime related so it was so interesting to find out what went on behind the scenes. I want to hear more stories!

I was less interested in the moving around stuff after the police, but to be honest it was necessary! It's nice to see what someone goes on to do after being undercover.

I liked the epilogue where Danni looks back on the work and critiques the policing system. It was refreshing to see an ex-copper be critical/constructive with how it can move forward. Highly recommend!

Was obsessed with this book! So interesting to be taken through the life of an undercover cop, her commitment to the role was steadfast and the journeys she experienced felt eye opening to what goes on around us. Towards the end, my interest slightly fizzled out when it came to the home life/relationship aspects of her post police career, but I can understand the necessity in telling this part of her story as it’s inspiring and hopeful for others that she managed to find a new career and way of life that she loves.

Looking forward to her next one!

A gave this a 4 star rating. Although I enjoyed the book I felt it changed in the later pages of Danni's life. Her relationships, her family, her work it became a promotional campaign for her works. I agreed with the prolouge and accepted her arguments that UK drugs policy doesn't work.
