The Bail Bondsman

Rate this book
Brett Donovan is a handsome, savvy lawyer in Albuquerque, and his best friend, a bail bondsman and strip club owner named Hector Lopez, is found dead in his home with a gun next to him. Was it suicide as the police reported? Or was it murder? There is a $5 million dollar life insurance policy that won't pay off if it is a suicide, and Hector's widow, a former stripper named Angel, hires Brett on a !/3 contingent fee to go after the insurance money.
In seeking justice for his deceased friend and the life insurance proceeds for Angel, Brett runs into many people who might have wanted Hector dead, including his rejected widow, a Mexican drug kingpin, Las Vegas debt collectors, international art smugglers, Peruvian revolutionaries, Hector's strip club manager, his wife's gangbanger brothers, and others. In the quest, Brett endures kidnapping, a shooting, death threats, a scandalous ethics complaint, and near financial ruin, as he seeks revenge for his friend and a $1.67 million legal fee. The legal thriller takes place in the courts, barrios and strip joints of New Mexico, the underworld of Las Vegas, and the cities and wilds of Peru. It is a thriller about what really goes on in the legal trenches and about international crime, greed, romance, sex, substance abuse, and the bizarre cases handled by a street lawyer who tries to do the right thing for the wrong reasons.
