She's got three rules:

1. Trust no one… Eve Edens has been abandoned, used, or manipulated by almost everyone she's ever met. Born into ridiculous wealth, she's dealt with the petty jealousies and sordid little resentments for nearly thirty years. But after three botched attempts on her life, she can no longer ignore the truth. Someone wants her dead.

2. Avoid the bad boys at all costs… William "Wild Bill" Reichert, the wonderfully sexy boy who abandoned her years ago, is back in town. Only he's no boy. Now he's a covert operative - and he's all man. When Eve hires Bill to help her discover who is behind the attacks, Bill soon comes to suspect it's someone much closer to Eve than she dares to believe.

3. And never fall for the same ruse twice… The search for the killer takes Bill and Eve deep into the dark secrets and strange world of the rich and famous, and into the heart of red-hot passion re-ignited by the peril that threatens to consume them both. But does Eve dare risk her heart on Bill a second time?

JESUS. Sometimes he wanted to kick his own ass for the way he'd been treating her since their reintroduction.

This hero was a jerk. When he was 18, Billy met Eve and they dated for three months. She promised she'd wait for him while he was training to be a Navy SEAL, but she didn't. And she married someone else.

Now. Was this bad? Of course. Should she have waited for Billy? Of course.

But the fact is that this was 12 years ago and he's never forgiven her or let go of his hurt and anger.

Now someone is gunning for Eve. There's been 3 attempts on her life. In desperation, she turns to Billy and his friends at Black Knights Inc. for protection.

Then you have to read about 300 pages of Billy being mean to Eve and making her cry. :(

Now. Billy isn't an asshole hero like "This guy is a jerk because being a jerk is attractive," you know, alpha-male shit. Instead it's more like, "Oh, she hurt him so bad - how can he ever trust and love her again?" But it still amounts to being an asshole. You've got a scared, vulnerable woman - who not only is being attacked by people who want her dead, but also struggles with shyness and an overbearing controlling father. She's an innocent and a very kind and sweet person.

To see Billy verbally smacking her around all the time is just heartcrushing to this reader. I wanted Billy to stop being such a moron. It's obvious that Eve never stopped loving Billy and it's very obvious that her asshole father strongarmed her into dating another man and eventually marrying him. The fact that Billy is so harsh and unforgiving towards Eve until the very, very end of the book had me rabid.

Okay. If you put that issue aside, this romance novel was actually pretty good. The plot is entertaining, Walker always gets some laughs in. Even though Billy isn't a very likable hero, Eve is a very likable heroine. She's so shy and sweet and kind, but has been really pushing and challenging herself to be more brave, so she is now an expert driver, able to defend herself physically, and is a damn good shot. It's really touching to read about her facing her fears and being so brave when that kind of stuff doesn't come naturally to her.

Another bad thing about this book I want to mention is Walker's tendency to include very strange sexist rhetoric in her novels. It's bizarre. I addressed this in my review of Thrill Ride. It rears its ugly head here, too. For instance:

They were women, so they clung to each other and cried together, taking strength and lending it in the way only females of the species could do.

Or what about this little weird comment:

Men! They stomped around each other, taking bites, when the truth was they should just whip 'em out and measure, solve everything just like that.

And, if she was a betting woman - which she so totally was - Bill would win that little competition hands down. HANDS being the operative word. Because Bill's were big and square and strong-looking, while Patrick Edens's were long and thin and almost feminine. And in her experience that old wives' tale about the size of a man's hands compared to the size of his... erm... BITS was right far more times than it was wrong.

I have to tell you that I expect a bit of sexism in my romance novels. And usually it doesn't bother me - but then again, usually it runs more towards stuff like "he was so big and manly! She was so small and delicate and female!" This, on the other hand, is not only more insulting and offensive (to both men and women, I might add) but also very weird and rather out of place in the text. I'm really struggling to understand why Walker feels the need to include these little diatribes. o.O

How's the sex, Carmen?

It's good, it's good actually. Not AMAZING, but not bad. I can't believe Eve even agrees to have sex with him after how he treated her during the book, though. Best believe I wouldn't let him touch me. o.O
...

Tl;dr - Now that I'm reading over this review, it comes off as if I thought this book was bad. But it wasn't bad. The plot was good, the heroine was good, it made me smile a few times. It had its flaws, but overall I'd say it was one of the stronger entries in this series.

P.S. Also, there's fat-shaming in this. Like I've said before, Walker never fat-shames women, but men who are fat are mocked and scorned in this series. It's annoying.

3.5 stars!

I can't believe it's been 3 years since I've last read a book in the Black Knights Inc. series! Holy cow, where did the time go and why did I just forget about this series?!

The first half of this book was soooo good. I didn't even mean to read this book I just saw it on my kindle and I thought "wow I forgot about this series" and I started to read the sample on Amazon just to see if I'd like it and then the next thing I knew, I flew through the free sample and was quickly switching over to my kindle so I could finish the book.

This book takes a second chance romances and gives it a spin. Two people who have loved each other for years, separated because of circumstances and are now forced to share in the same circle again. With Eve needed his company's help, Bill has no choice but to be around her even after what she did. But as they spend more time around each other they learn that everything they thought they knew about their heartbreaking ending was wrong.

Like I said earlier, the first half was amazing. The second half, not so much. I can't tell you why but suddenly I just lost interest in the story. They don't get together until around the last quarter of the book and by then I just found that I wasn't interested anymore. It wasn't about the slow burn per se, because I've read books with slow burn and enjoyed them immensely, but it suddenly felt riddled with unnecessary descriptions and just so much other information. I skimmed most of the second half, and focused mostly on the dialogue which makes me sad because skimming feels like cheating but I just couldn't do it. It was either I skimmed or I just stopped reading this book all together.

I have almost all the books in this series on my kindle so I can't wait to return. The next book is about Delilah and Mac and unfortunately I wasn't a fan of their parts in the book at all so I'm kind of dreading this next book but I will get to it eventually. But if you enjoy Romantic Suspense books I would definitely recommend checking this series out.

Born Wild by Julie Ann Walker
Black Knights Inc series #5. Romantic suspense.
Eve Edens has had too many “accidents” recently. She’s sure someone is stalking her. Eve goes to Black Knights where her friend Becky and her brother Bill Reichert work. Eve and Bill were a couple before he left for military service and he’s covert now. Eve hopes that he can figure out who is trying to kill her.

Plenty of suspense and danger. Several steamy chapters. A few laugh-out-loud comments. Eve and Bill have different views on their prior relationship ending. He takes out his hurt on her repeatedly throughout the story with mean and rude comments. She’s nice in return, maybe feeling guilty for letting her father manipulate her into breaking up with him all those years ago. They get it settled in the end of course but I can’t say I was comfortable through much of this relationship.

Yeah, I loved it !!! The book was every bit as thrilling as I'd expected. As usual, the suspense was riveting, with a few twists & turns, and a whole lot of action. Julie Ann Walker did an outstanding job on this one, kept this reader second guessing right up until the end. As the plot unfolded, I was going crazy trying to figure out exactly who was trying to whack poor Eve. I loved the drama and how Billy & Eve interacted with each other. As a fan of the series, I knew these two had a past, they acted like nemeses but it was obvious there was some heartache, so I couldn't wait to read all about it. And yeah ... I loved the way it all played out. I really got into the story, loved how Billy protected his woman, loved how Eve finally put her foot down, loved the excitement. Shoot .... I'll go ahead & say it. Yeah, I loved everything about this novel. I'd been dying to read it, so I didn't mess around. I read it in one evening.... put everything else on hold until it was done. I enjoyed every page. Now I'm sad cause there was no tease at the end. My gosh!!! What will I do if the series is over ? Throw a temper tantrum ? Bang my head against the wall ? Go off the deep end ? Please take pity on this demented hapless reader, Julie Ann Walker. I must have more, you see, or I might go insane. Yeah, I'm hooked on this series, and I'm already jonesin' for more.

I'm gonna give this one five flying stars and my highest recommendation.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for giving me a copy of this awesome book in return for my honest opinion.

Another great addition to this series!

I liked Eve. She had a hidden strength that she discovered in here. She's always been kind of shy and a push over. When she stood up to her dad, I was proud of her. Especially since she was 30 years old lol. Our hero, Billy, was alright. I didn't melt for him. I felt like Eve was a more fleshed out character than he was.

Hotness Rating 3 out of 5

Wild Ride is the fifth book in the smoking hot Black Knights Inc. series by the talented Julie Ann Walker. This book was the one I was looking forward to reading the least, I think. Of course, it turned out to be one of my favorites. In this story, we finally get to learn what has made Bill so angry and gruff with Eve. Even better we get introduced to more of the alpha hotties that make up BKI. I can’t wait to get to know each and every one of these guys.

Eve was raised with wealth and privilege. Instead of her background making her act haughty and entitled she is the opposite. Eve allows people to dictate her life and walk all over her and her father is the worst. But, things are changing. Eve is tired of never sticking up for herself. She’s been taking self-defense classes and her instructor has been helping her work on being more assertive. However, even Eve knows that no amount of assertiveness can help her now. Someone is trying to hurt her and the police refuse to give her concerns any serious consideration. The only person she can turn to for help is the one man that hates her the most.

William “Wild Bill” Reichert has held a grudge against Eve Edens for most of his adult life. He knows it’s time to let the past go and move on, but every time he’s near Eve he is assaulted with all of the pains and hurts of old. It doesn’t make it any easier that Eve gets even more beautiful every time he sees her. And as his sister’s best friend he sees her much more than he would like to. Now, she’s in trouble and needing his help. He would never let a woman get hurt when he could stop it, even if she did tear his heart out, but it doesn’t stop him from wishing that anyone other than him could help her.

Eve is as sweet as can be and I loved how she worked so hard to be a stronger, more assertive Eve. Her little speeches to herself made me smile. The fact that she was so willing to just accept all blame and take responsibility for what happened was refreshing and just highlighted what a truly good person she was. When Bill would let his anger slip he was so protective and good. There was no way anyone could have resisted him.

I don’t think I have ever rooted for a couple to get their act together and see what lies in front of them as much as I did for this couple. Thankfully, there wasn’t a lot of unnecessary self-inflicted drama (that drives me crazy). Nope. This poor couple has been at the mercy of Eve’s family for years and neither had any idea. I loved how the secondary characters involved themselves in the going ons and had little patience for Bill’s feeling sorry for himself.

This was better than the book before, though I still had to restrain myself from rolling my eyes. Eve is a sheltered rich girl who had a summer fling with Bill some 12 years ago. They fell in love, didn't do more than mess around, then Bill went off for Navy SEAL training. Well, things happened and Eve got married while Bill was still in training and he has kept his distance ever since, even though she's best friends with his sister.

This book has been coming for a while as Eve and Bill have had to deal with each other in a couple of previous books. In this one Eve realizes someone is trying to kill her by creating "accidents" and the police don't believe any are intentional. Eventually she takes things into her own hands and reaches out to Bill, as she knows what the Black Knights are all about from previous books.

Eve is super sweet. She was sheltered, controlled by her father, really shy, and is a marine biologist. In recent years she has worked hard to overcome her fears and has trained so that she can defend herself. However, she still comes across as a delicate and fragile feminine doll who is pure and sweet and has the spine of a wet noodle.

There were few surprises for me in this book. My first guess of the villain turned out to be right, although there were some distractions that made me question my original call. I knew that certain things happened in the past, and turned out to be right, although I thought the reveal came out of the blue . It was nice that Eve showed that she actually does have a strong backbone, rather than becoming the wilting flower everyone seems to think she is.

We also get setup for the next book by spending time in Mac"s and Delilah's heads. Delilah is involved in some of the action in this book, and so gets further involved in the situation with Eve. I'm now looking forward to the next book with these two. It sounds like it will be different as they go to find her uncle.

One thing I didn't need were the frequent pop culture references, only some of which I got, even if I had experienced the movie/book/song that was being referenced. The fact that each had to be explained made it even more painful to read. However, overall I found this book to be a solid step up from the wreck that was the previous book in the series.

I find it hard to write reviews for this Black Knight series. I often enjoy the stories, but with the exception of one (book 4), I find the writing difficult. It feels like the author is trying too hard to be hip by filling her sentences with slang: "Shit on a stick. Why the hell does life, and matters of the heart in particular, have to be so craptastically complicated?" Punctuating the story with slang makes the it fun, but when it happens over and over again, it gets tedious and makes if hard to take the character seriously.

Having said that, I like the characters in the Black Knight series. It is a good romantic suspense with hot alphas and damsels in distress. This one has a good storyline with unforeseen twists and turns. Having read a few books in the series, I enjoy reconnecting with previous characters. This part is fun.

IN A NUTSHELL:
If the author could scale back on the inner voice and the lose language. I would enthusiastically recommend this book. Book 4, Thrill Ride, set the precedent, so I know it can be done. Unfortunately, I can't say that I really enjoyed this read and wouldn't run to the store to purchase it. I will cross my fingers that the next book will be better.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4 Billy and Eve Stars

I enjoyed this audiobook. Great narration that flowed well
The story was well paced and if you love a second chance romance then this one ticks all the boxes.
Eve was 18 when she & Billy spent 3 months together, falling in love. Events happened and their relationship ended. Fast forward 12 years and Eve needs Billy’s help as she’s in danger. But can they ever be friends again, let alone lovers? Billy is a very gruff (and buff!) ex Navy Seal & he is the epitome of the dark brooding alpha male but I loved that he thinks about how Eve broke his heart - it’s unusual for it to be this way round.
Lots of drama, action & a delicious slow build to some passionate moments.

HEA? Yes - but I would have liked an epilogue.
Cheating? No.
Standalone? Yes, can be read as standalone despite being in a series.

I reviewed this at MustReadBooksOrDie with my friend Shelley.

Shel: This is my first foray into Black Knights Inc. territory and if it is your too, let me tell that it doesn't take too long to figure out how all of the characters fit together. So no worries if you haven't read the other books in the series...you can read this one and not feel lost. I felt mildly curious at the beginning about who these guys were and some of the references of past events but, honestly, it didn't hinder my ability to enjoy the novel.

Court: I take full responsibility for her being a little bit lost. But this is one of my favorite series' of the year! Why? Two words: Military & Motorcycles. Two of my very favorite things in a book, in the same book. Need I say more? And I had to have this book. So I went all sorts of fan girl on Shel there, and here we are! I will say that while this may not be my absolute favorite Black Knight installment so far, it was still up there in my personal enjoyment! And just look at that cover. Yum.

Shel: The novel starts very fast paced with an attempted murder via scooter (haha!) (Court: Now that is funny! Hehe) --and a very quick trip to the BKI headquarters to provide a safe harbor. Eve, the person with several attempts on her life under her belt, and Bill, a BKI investigator and resident bad ass, apparently had a tumultuous past and some very hard to deny feelings for each other.

Court: Seeing as the Black Knight motorcycle shop aka secret operative compound is literally like a fortress, she picked a great place to go for safety. Since her father and the Chicago PD weren't taking her ideas about the sitch seriously. The badassery that is these boys is deep within my heart, as they're all mostly ex-Navy Seals and FBI and black ops stealth...Okay. Sorry I'll stop with all the lingo...for now! Anyway, Billy and Eve do have a lot of history, and have been dancing around each other for approximately the two books...aka last year...and Billy is fighting hand over fist to not let history repeat itself. Which is fun for us, because the tension reaches off the chart levels.

Shel: As their journey to find out who is behind the attempts on Eve's life progresses we are given bits and pieces of their brief, but memorable, summer of love 12 years ago. Neither of them are able to forget the passion and love that they felt those many years ago and even though they've both lived productive lives and had other people involved with them, they are still hanging on to those feelings....although they are both in serious avoidance mode. While they both want a resolution to some bad feelings about the way things ended, neither of them wants to really confront it or talk about it or really even think about it. In the meantime there is an almost murder mystery to solve and many characters to get to know. There's Red Delilah and Mac and Ace and Jeremy and Eve's god awful father and ex, and a weirdo stalker...and lots of other interesting people thrown in the mix. Court: I still missed an appearance from Ozzie...hmpf...I had talked him up to you majorly! LOL...he has some serious 80's music love, so I hope he comes back soon from wherever he is! (Or just read Thrill Ride!)

Court: I always enjoy Julie Ann Walker's ability to build an amazing and multi-faceted story...and this one is no different! These guys are part of each other, and most of them don't think that finding someone to be their one and only will ever happen, so it is also enjoyable to see them get knocked on their butts! Eve takes a crazy journey to finding confidence in herself and her decisions from the pretty strict rule that her father tried to put her under, so I always enjoy a story about a woman finding her inner strength. She definitely did, and the top notch writing made a well established story not get stale.

Shel: This novel is filled with lots of one liners, action, heat, and varying perspectives. It was a nice introduction to this series. Court: Now you just have to find time...hahaha...to read the rest.

3.5 Stars. BORN WILD is the fifth instalment in Julie Ann Walker’s Black Knights Inc series. This series focuses on one of the former Special Ops/Military/FBI sgents who are now working for a covert government operation called the Black Knights. This book centers around Wild Bill "Billy" a former Navy Seal and Eve a rich socialite. Eve and Billy have an intense past. They were in love when they were young but something went wrong and they had a bad breakup and Eve ended up marrying someone else. She was divorced shortly after but it wasn't until about 18 months ago that she and Billy met up again and it wasn't pleasant for either of them. It is painful for them to be around each other. However, recently Eve has had a series of "accidents" and she knows someone is out to kill her. The police aren't taking her seriously so she has no other option but to turn to Billy and the Black Knights. Billy doesn't want to be around Eve but when he realizes someone is out to get her he steps up to protect Eve and find out who wants her dead.

I have to say I didn't have high hopes for this book because I wasn't a big fan of Eve and Billy in the previous books. Eve has always been a shy girl who was pretty much a doormat. She has been trying very hard in the past few years to stand up for herself and "not take orders" from other people especially her very wealthy father. Eve ends up being a surprisingly strong character in this book. When it really comes down to it she steps up and handles the situation and doesn't let everyone tell her what to do. There is a bit of falling apart and crying but it's understandable with everything that Eve goes through in this book. The one thing that drove me crazy about Eve was her ridiculous vocabulary. She used the phrase lady-balls way too often, and quite frankly once was too much. When she said the phrase "Cheese and Rice to Billy during their first sex scene I didn't know whether to laugh or roll my eyes. Honestly, I get she was sweet but no one actually talks like that.

Billy is a former Navy Seal and a tough guy. Mostly I liked him but at some point I completely agreed with Ace when he said ""What you need is an old-fashioned ass-whooping....Because your ticket on the Poor-Me-I-Got-Dumped train has long expired. You need to hop off at the next stop, my friend. It's at the intersection of SuckItUp and GetTheHellOverIt." I mean how long do you hold a decision Eve made at 18 years old over 12 years ago against her.

The romance was slow to build but there was a lot of sexual tension during the story and when they finally gave in they really went for it (I think it was two chapters of nothing but sex).

Overall, I didn't roll my eyes near as much in this book as I have the past couple of books. The plot seemed more realistic and the villain wasn't immediately obvious. For the most part I enjoyed both Eve and Billy. I also really liked Mac and Ace (the other two Black Knights who are in this book) and Delilah who will obviously be Mac's love interest. I was pretty close to giving up on this series before this book but I enjoyed it enough that I'll pick up Mac and Delilah's book next.

Overall, this is a fast paced, suspenseful and action packed romance and worth reading.

Julie Ann Walker has been one of my absolute favorite authors since the first glimpse I had of Hell on Wheels. Now five books later it is just as clear today why I am so enraptured with her writing, because every single story is packed full of heart pounding action sequences and mouthwatering love stories. While I have to say that Thrill Ride is by far my absolute favorite in this series it is not due to the lacking of story in any of the remainder of the books. It is purely the attraction to the characters, and the feeling of home in the story. Thrill Ride just happens to be that for me. Although, Born Wild has been the story in the making from the start. All the way from In Rides Trouble (book 2) this vicious and grudging relationship has been running as a side story. I was ready to pick this relationship apart, and finally see their happily ever after. Wild Bill is the perfect mixture of alpha gentlemen. If that isn’t the most ironic word I have ever used. The perfection in his character with the right amount of man handling and caressing was perfect; further proving my point on the incredible and amazing talent of this author. Eve which is our female lead, as well as Becky’s best friend, was just as she has always been. Seeing that I am not a very finicky female I tend to find her character occasionally grating on my nerves. While I love her, and am one of her biggest fans; I find myself frustrated when she acts like a weak woman. Just as she says several times, she need to find her “ladyballs”. It is the constant wishy washy back and forth strength that tend to make me want to reach in the story, and smack a character. So here we are with the HEA for Wild Bill and Eve, but as with every other story is obvious who will be the next victim to love lasso. The introduction of friction between Mac and Delilah have me jumping with joy. There is no doubt that this will be another amazing ride, and with my attraction to their already presented character details I am secretly hoping for another display of Thrill Ride talent!!!!!!~BookWhisperer Reviewer JO~

It’s finally here! I swear I have been waiting forever for this book. Ever since we were introduced to the shit storm of a relationship between Eve and Bill in book two, In Rides Trouble, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on their story and find out what possibly could of happened to these two in the past. It wasn’t much of surprise that I was way off on my guess. Ms. Walker is brilliant and spinning a tale. She not only is a creative mastermind with her plots, she is one of the best descriptive writers I have ever read. She never adds too much, but gives you just enough detail to paint each new scene beautifully in your mind.

Bill and Eve have a past that is full of heartache, betrayal and disappointment. They have both been manipulated in a very cruel fashion. There was so much hurt and deceit thrown at them I really never thought there was any way to get past it. Not only do we follow this couple as they uncover the secrets of their past, but they are also trying to uncover the person responsible for trying to kill Eve. Both of these plot lines are strong on their own, but once weaved together it makes a hell of a good book.

I love the way the side characters from the previous books are incorporated into each new story. These guys and gals really have a way to bury themselves into your heart. It’s hard to end a book and say goodbye to them. That’s never an issue here. They show up in each new addition and bring all the spark and quirkiness right along with them.

If you are a fan of romantic suspense, this series MUST go on your TBR list. Each one is full of hot alpha men, strong witty females, blazing passionate sex, and tons of humor. The balance between it all is spectacular. Black Knight, Inc. is hands down my favorite romantic suspense series.

I’ve wanted to read one of Julie Ann Walker’s Black Knights Inc. books for a while. I even have a couple sitting on my bookshelf. I finally read one and now I have to go back and read the rest. With that said Born Wild was a fine place to start reading this series. It is the only book I have read from this author and works just fine as a stand-alone.
Eve has discovered that someone is after her and they mean to see her life end. She knows that the recent near death experiences are not random coincidences. Luckily she also knows someone who can help protect her and get to the bottom of who is having these nefarious thoughts towards her. She just hopes Bill does not hate her as much as she fears he most likely does.
Black Knights Inc. is so much more than the custom bike shop that it fronts as. Wild Bill is one of its secret operatives. He also has a past with Eve that is not ever too far from his thoughts, mostly bitter thoughts. It’s those thoughts that make him accept the job. His need to protect Eve and find out who would want her dead soon becomes more than a job to him. His feelings are the driving force to stop whoever it is that wishes to harm her by whatever means necessary.
There are so many questions that the reader constantly asks themselves while reading this gem. Slowly putting all the pieces together keeps the pages turning. The tension stays high while trying to figure out what exactly happened between Bill and Eve in their past. The who done it came to me quickly, but I could not figure out the why’s behind it. I like my romantic suspense’s to keep me constantly guessing. I love it when so much doubt is placed on multiple characters that I begin questioning everything. Julie kept me guessing until the end.

Bill and Eve have been a constant source of amusement for me throughout this series. It may be horrible to some to know that they’re snipes and barbs then regret at their words and constant denial of attraction could be viewed as a source of entertainment, but it was. So I had to wonder what kind of story we would get when these two were finally thrown together, unable to up and walk away, because while their antics were entertaining I didn’t think I could handle and entire book of it, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how their relationship played out. While there is still that wishy washy, can I let the past be the past thing that permeates throughout the majority of the book, they stop poking the bear and start to see each other for who they are now, not who they were twelve years ago. Billy I liked, have always liked him, but it’s Eve who stole the show for me. I loved that there was so much more to her than anyone knew. We’ve been able to witness her struggle to not fade into the background and allow others to treat her as a doormat and while she still has moments of doubt, she puts her big girl panties on and doesn’t allow herself to go backwards.
The story moved at a good pace for me, though there was a bit of drag towards the end, but considering where it was at, it was appropriate. I enjoyed trying to work the mystery out on my own, I won’t say if my first suspect was the right one, but the mystery of who wanted Eve dead was played well. And while there was no Ozzie time (Yes, I love Ozzie) I LOVED Ace, his antics had me laughing outloud and am looking forward to learning more about him.

By and large, Born Wild was one of the best romantic suspense novels I’ve read so far this year. Well written, full of drama, action, laughs and love, you will enjoy every second of reading Wild Bill and Eve’s story of love, loss, and forgiveness. The plot is rich and filled with twists, turns, overlaps, and discovery of betrayal and secrets that change lives and teach that trust is something that should never be taken for granted. Bill and Eve are a perfect couple and experiencing the resurgence of their love and their rediscovery of one another was a heart-wrenching and heart-warming event by turns. I am so glad that Eve and Bill finally found their way back into each other’s arms and earned their HEA. Seeing all that Eve went through and knowing that she never gave up and never surrendered to hopelessness gives me a new outlook on relationships and hope for finding my own inner strength. I cannot wait to find out more about the Knights and I suspect that Mac will soon have his turn in the hot seat. Another great work of art Ms. Walker, thank you.

This novel is chalk full of suspense caused by the danger, mystery, and palpable chemistry that Walker puts down to paper. Her descriptions and narrative bring this novel to be in a larger than life way. I can definitely say that I didn’t see that ending coming, however. Walker kept me guessing right to the very end.

I love how raw & gritty the Black Knights are as individuals. Their rough and tumble demeanours really shine through Walker’s writing. At the same time, each has a little something that makes them stand out in a big way. I thoroughly enjoy how well we are getting to know them by this point in time in the series. Everyone is really becoming real to me.

Bill & Eve are priceless together. They’re so set on not actually talking that they fight their way through non-existent battles. At the same time, the tension between them, both animosity and sheer chemical attraction, is off the charts. It makes for a very unique main couple.

Once again, Walker has brought her secret agents/motorcycle mechanics to life in a big way. This was an exciting, fast paced ride through one heck of a story.

I did not want to finish this book. It was seriously bad. I hated the writers style. There were so many stupid analogies it took away from the book. I got almost half way through the book before I decided to give up. Not as much for the storyline as the author' s style. Another thing that drove me crazy was the lengthy inner dialogue. They couldn't have a conversation without paragraphs or even pages of inner dialogue then it would go back to the story/ conversation. Imagine this, one sentence of dialogue then three paragraphs of what a character was thinking, then another sentence of dialogue to continue the conversation.

Maybe I should have read the books in order, but I don't really know how that could have helped the writing style. This is not an author I would pick up again.

I decided to go back and finish. It has a decent storyline, but it still has a horrible style. The analogies are not good and I hated the over the top silent dialogues with themselves.

I decided to stop here reading this series. I know that I don't like how this author writes. I don't like her way to describe action, every situation is really anticlimatic and the suspense is null.
Besides her heroines are really backless. I'm struggling trying to get the story finished :(
That's bad. I saw a lot of high reviews on those books so probably the problem is me!

"In case you haven't noticed, your life is on the line here, Eve. Which means I'm not just willing to bend the rules, I'm willing to break every last one."

It's no secret I'm a fan of BKI. I've loved Julie Anne's series since I met Ozzy *g* But I will say that this series is also very hit or miss, at least for me. Some books are much more interesting in that they keep you on edge from page one, until you turn the very last.

I was looking forward to reading about Wild Bill, but honestly I wasn't a fan of Eve. Since the first, some niggling voice in my head told me she would be the last person to win me over. She's definitely the kind of woman who needs a backbone, and William the kind of man that deserves better.

However, it's evident when these two are in the same room that there's a lot of unresolved tension, and definitely a lot of history. The story goes that twelve years prior, Bill and Eve dated for a summer (think, the Notebook), but while Billy was at his BUD/S training Eve's father nagged and nagged until she agreed to date another man, Blake.

Lets stop here, for a second. I know that we are all raised differently, and that some of us are strong willed from the start while others need a little push throughout their lives. But I'm sorry, being shy and "innocent" isn't an excuse to allow even your family to dictate who you love. She was 18, but that doesn't mean she should have stood up to her father; that she shouldn't have said no to Blake. She should have stayed true to herself, and her heart.

For twelve years, Billy has been consumed by hurt and bitterness at Eve's betrayal, making him hostile towards her, making him conflicted of his feelings for Eve. Yes, some people never get over their first love, and when faced with betrayal of such magnitude, it's so easy to fall into a bitter existence. But honestly, after 12 years you can't let go? You couldn't have forgiven or tried to forget and move on with someone who was sure of themselves and didn't need anyone telling her who to love? Julie Anne, you couldn't find him someone better?!

That is part of the story, but my lovely readers, you'll have to discover the rest on your own ;)

Now, after some unlucky "accidents", Eve discovers someone is trying to kill her. When the police, fire dept, and her own father refuse to believe it, she turns to the one man she knows can help her. this becomes personal for Bill as he and Mac set out to find the one behind it all and discover the reason why.

There's a lot more suspense than romance in Born Wild, but because I failed to connect with the love interest, I didn't really mind. There is lies, betrayals, and a kung-fu shoot out that resulted in a death and had unrealistic written all over it's fictional self that it makes the lack of romance less frustrating. It's entertaining.

Born Wild is also slower paced than the previous book, Thrill Ride; it's a bit more frustrating because of the internal monologue that drove me off the wall. The characters would go on and on about their disfunctions. Even when they talked amongst themselves they only got about three sentences within three/four pages. The most frustrating? It happens during the sex scenes!

Guys, shut up and get on with it! No one thinks that much, especially in the middle of sex! Smh..

I know this review is much more of a rant, but if you can manage reading through Eve's whiny-self-pitying internal nonsense, and don't mind a weak willed overgrown woman who has no backbone and cries for every little thing, I'm pretty sure you'll love Born Wild. For me, like I said before, it's pretty hit or miss. I just liked it for the suspense, not the romance.

An ARC was provided by the publisher for review purposes. As always, all opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for this review.*

Very good book. The action and suspense were there from the first page and never really let up. Eve has had three "accidents" and is sure that someone is trying to kill her, but the police don't agree. After the latest one. Eve realizes she needs help, and goes to Black Knights Inc. But that also means facing ex-boyfriend "Wild Bill".

Twelve years earlier, when she was eighteen, she and Billy had been in love. But while he was away, she gave in to pressure from her father to date another man, and ended up marrying him. Realizing her mistake, she quickly divorced him, but the damage was done. Billy was heartbroken and very bitter about what he saw as her betrayal.

Because Eve is his sister's best friend, Billy sees Eve quite often. Every time the sparks fly between them, usually expressed in snide remarks. Their past is always there, stirring up feelings that neither wants to admit are still simmering. When Eve comes to BKI for help, Billy can't deny the need he feels to protect her, but trusting her again is something he can't bring himself to do. Eve can only hope that he doesn't hate her too much to help.

I loved finally getting Billy and Eve's story. The tension between them has been building through several books, and it has reached its boiling point. Though Eve has previously come across as quiet and a bit of a doormat, in this book a different Eve emerges. She has had enough of letting people like her father boss her around and she has made several changes in her life. From defensive driving and self-defense lessons, to moving out of her father's house, she has developed a new confidence in her own abilities. It doesn't come easily to her, and there are some great scenes of her giving herself pep talks. She also tends to blame herself for all the bad things that are happening. Billy is definitely an alpha male, great at taking charge, but he is also a gentleman at heart. I loved seeing his protectiveness and caring come out, even as he was trying to resist admitting that he still loves Eve. One of the things I really enjoyed was the way he was often surprised by what she is capable of now, finally realizing that she isn't the same girl she was all those years ago. The events on the sailboat show him just how much she has changed, but letting go of those hurt feelings is harder than he thinks.

The action and suspense of the story was really good. I loved Eve's determination that someone finally believe her, and how she takes matters into her own hands. As the attacks escalate, it becomes obvious that someone is deadly serious about ending Eve's life, and the team is equally serious about finding out who and why. Putting all the pieces together isn't easy, and leads to evidence of a betrayal of the worst sort. The final confrontation comes with a twist that Eve and Billy didn't see coming, and nearly cost Billy his life. It did make him realize that life can be too uncertain to hold a grudge. The final scene of the book was great, and Eve's comment about the catheter was pretty funny.

There wasn't much involvement from most of the BKI team, except for Mac and Ace. There were a couple fun spots with Ace, especially with him telling Billy what a fool he is. There's more involvement from Mac, who has his own contentious moments with Delilah of the bikers' bar. I've liked what I've seen of her in previous books, and she really shines in this one. I hurt for her after the shootout at the bar, and was rooting for her as she got under Mac's skin. I'm really looking forward to their story in the next book.

Why I Read this Book: Born Wild is THE book I’ve been waiting for. Bits and pieces of Eve and Bill’s backstory have been mentioned here and there in previous books but I’ve been waiting to find out their entire story. There’s tension and angst settling between the two and I wanted to find out the root of it all. And I did.

What I Liked: There’s still chemistry between Bill and Eve, even after all the years that have passed since they were a couple. It was evident in previous books and it’s clear in Born Wild. There’s good reason for the tension, very good reason. Things weren’t quickly patched up, yet, it didn’t take forever and a day for them to straighten things out either.

Delilah is fierce! She has an eye for Mac and she isn’t afraid to let him, and everyone else, know. She comes on strong and lays it thick. Like when Mac walks into her bar and she says “Somebody slide me a glass, will ya? Because I just spied me a tall drink of water!” I like how the author sets up another romance yet doesn’t complete it. There’s enough there to establish a foundation, with its faults, that makes me excited for the next book in the series. As long as the author doesn’t make me wait too long for their book. And I love how Delilah isn’t fooled by the bike shop façade. She knows something else is going on behind those walls.

What I Didn’t Like: I kept going back and forth on who I thought the villain was. (I’m always trying to figure out who the bad guy is.) In Born Wild, I felt like I was being taken on a bit of a wild goose chase, trying to figure out who was behind everything. Particularly when a specific item was mentioned, an item that had been mentioned only once before (thank goodness for the search function on ebooks!), which I thought was linked to the villain but turned out to be incorrect.

Memorable Moment:

“And lest you think I’m bluffing, let me first inform you that I did two tours in Iraq and three in Afghanistan. I killed and maimed my enemies, and I did it all with a song in my heart. So, rest assured, I have no problem pulling this trigger and turning your greasy head into nothing more than spatter patterns.”

Overall Impression: Born Wild gave me what I’ve been waiting for - Bill and Eve’s story – but I was more into the romance part of the story than I was the suspense element. I did like the setup for a romance between Delilah and Mac. I just hope I don’t have to wait too long for their book.

Billy Reichert and Eve Edens have a tangled past that has left Billy's heart broken and hurt. He has built a fortress around his jilted heart and will never forgive Eve how she ended things between them.

While overseas, Billy learns of Eve's betrayal and forthcoming marriage--to another man--and the crushing sensation to his heart makes it impossible to forgive the woman he gave his heart to.

Eve Edens, a rich socialite, never intended to hurt the one true love of her life. She and Billy made vows to stay true to each other, but after continuous persuasion from her father, she agrees to go out on a harmless date with another man.

But that harmless date turns out to be the biggest mistake of her life.

Years later, Eve and Billy run into each other once again, and old feelings come rushing back--for both of them. Yet, Billy refuses to act on those feelings and be hurt again. He fights the attraction that still lingers and reinforces those impenetrable walls around his heart.

But Eve needs Billy. Someone has tried to kill her--three times now--and no one believes her. Not even the police. And Eve knows that Billy and the men of BKI can help her. But being this close to the man she still loves makes it difficult to keep the truth to herself.

That twelve years later, Eve still loves Billy.

But can Billy forget and forgive her?

And will the killer who waits silently in the shadows finally complete his plans to get rid of Eve Edens...once and for all?

Julie Ann Walker has created a great romantic suspense series with her BKI men. All of the Alpha men in this covert group are sexy, fierce, and kick-ass baddies that will make a woman swoon. And I love the fact that Julie gives the reader more than just the H/h to get to know and understand. The secondary characters are used wisely and you can see the sexual tension build between Delilah and Mac. My only complaint would be that I would have loved to have seen more of other past characters (Big Smile).

While some of the plot and story structure came across as cliche, I still love reading this series. It's solid characters and continued building story line will definitely keep me around.

A couple that gets a second chance in love years after their separation.

Eve was the one who broke up their relationship, , something she's regretted ever since. She has been working on overcoming her tendency to let people walk all over her and when the police don't take her concerns that someone is trying to hurt her seriously, she has no choice but to turn to the Knights for help.

Bill is still bitter about their break up and hasn't forgiven Eve for the way she did things, . He might not be thrilled that she's back in his life, but he wants her to be safe and when her concerns are proven valid, he is determined to do everything he can to keep her alive and well.

The feelings both of them never dealt with are resurfacing and the truth finally comes out, allowing them the opportunity to try again.

Engaging story with a villain that I suspected but wasn't sure about until nearly the revelation, .

Next in the series comes Hell for Leather and the owner of the Knights' favorite biker bar Delilah Fairchild's story and the stoic Mac's, who is determined to resist her charms.

***YIKES *** I have made a major error. Thank you, ValerieC for bringing this to my attention. This review applies to:
Rev It Up (Black Knights, Inc., #3) by Julie Ann Walker , In Rides Trouble (Black Knights, Inc., #2) by Julie Ann Walker , Hell on Wheels (Black Knights, Inc., #1) by Julie Ann Walker , and Thrill Ride (Black Knights Inc., #4) by Julie Ann Walker

Born Wild (Black Knights Inc., #5) by Julie Ann Walker is on my list to read.

I started out really liking this series (referring to the first four books). My husband and I each have motorcycles and enjoy riding. We don't try to pretend we're hard-core, just love the ride. I love adventure books and typically enjoy military type adventures.

So, a group of hot "ex" seals running a motorcycle shop as a cover. Sounds like fun. But not so much for me as the series went on.

Book 1 started with lots of adventure and some sexy scenes along the way. I prefer to not read graphic sex scenes, preferring to leave the details to my own imagination. I won't stop reading an interesting book or a fun book due to graphic sex scenes as long as they're brief and not too graphic.

Unfortunately, as the books progressed there was less and less adventure and more and more sex happening. Not saying that's a bad thing - I just prefer not to read it. And I was disappointed that the adventures seemed less, well, less.

You might enjoy this series (if you don't mind reading graphic sex scenes.) I would have enjoyed it immensely if not for that.

Hmm, I didnt really like this at all, and that's a shame since I have liked the previous books. I am not sure why, but the author's writing style really bugged me this time around - every sentence seemed to have an analogy, and there was even an obvious contradiction early on. It's almost like the author is trying to get as much slang and obscure pop culture references as she can into every single sentence. To be honest, it reminded me a lot of JR Ward, but what an earlier version of her writing might look like. I nearly put this down twice, which is the kiss of death for a book for me, but I persevered and finished it. I knew who the villain was about a third of the way through, because the mis-direction to another character was too obvious.

Another thing that bugged was the looooong interludes of inner dialogue in the middle of a conversation. It was like an information dump at times, and there were sections where the dialogue went on for over a page, before abruptly returning to the conversation at hand. It was jarring.

Eve and Billy's backstory, and the development of thier current relationship, played a very bad second fiddle to all the inner dialogues and got lost in the writing style for me, and the whole thing seemed rushed in the end. I also didn't care for the set up of the next story - the characters were a little too much like caricatures for me. I think this may be the end of the road for this series, which is a shame because I have enjoyed the others, on the whole, and the last book was the best in the series to my mind.
