THREE LAWS OF LIGHTHAVENS

Law One
Do not leave a Lighthaven without permission. The Garden is full of unsafe plants, even though they may be small. Slashweeds can cut deep enough to sever muscle and render limbs useless. Sparkbushes can cause temporary blindness.

Law Two
Stay away from any plant that could be dangerous. A Darkroot infestation has been reported in Fire Grove. Stay in well-lit areas to avoid death or mutilation. Bloodblossoms may look pretty, but they will puncture the flesh and suck a human dry.

Law Three
Report anyone with plants growing on their bodies. A burn from a vine may cause one to become a Fire Demon. The Raven was slain in human form. Be on the lookout for anyone who might be a Crow in disguise. And, as always, stay away from the Green Witch. She may act like she has the best intentions, but she means you harm.

Have I ever mentioned how much I loathe cliffhanger endings? The writing and the story aren’t bad. Actually, they’re pretty good. End a book on a cliffhanger, and you will automatically lose at least one star from me.

The second book in the Rhyme of the Willow series brings more of the same incredibly vivid story of the twins, Axton and Aniva, and their continued search for their parents in the Garden (the world on the other side of the willow).

They have expanded their adventure to Fire Grove, another Lighthaven in the Garden, and with that, they are thrust into more dilemmas and confrontations with the Green Witch as well as dealings with other evil characters, such as the Wilds and Crows from the first book.
The Green Witch continues to be an enigma. Such a curious, but fantastic, character. She shows up sporadically and interacts mostly with Axton, plying him with riddles and conundrums concerning the location of his parents and in general, messing with his mind. She is both helpful and harmful, so I'm still unsure whether she's a good witch or a bad one. I do love her character though.

While in the Fire Grove, Axton tackles the Darkroot problem that has been plaguing the area. Though it seems that solving one problem only creates bigger problems. Dire situations that call for extreme measures.

Be fairly warned that this book ends on a cliffhanger to rival all cliffhangers. Smack dab in the middle of one of those dire situations I just mentioned. In fact, I was so into it that I continued tapping my phone screen for a good ten seconds trying desperately to move the page forward, before I finally realized that it was the end of the book.
AAAAARRRRRRGGHHHHH!

Fortunately, I have the third and final book in this series already downloaded, so I'm able to jump right back into the story. phweeeew!

As I said in my review for Shadowbloom, the first book in this series, I would LOVE to see this story, these colorful characters and the awesomely descriptive world come to life as a movie.

Trouble seems to follow this brother and sister everywhere they go.
Fire Grove has chosen a new sage Tika Sprysprout and a new guardian Haze. Lotus from Azure Cove has decided to take the journey to Fire Grove and a new sentinel Brussels as well. This convoy heads to Fire Grove to destroy the attacks of the Darkroot, but no one knows how. Axton realizes some important aspects of the plant that has been killing and causing havoc on Fire Grove and in the process the Green Witch has been on the scene meddling and causing him confusion. Aniva's Blood Demon tendency is revealed to the counsel, thanks to Haze's betrayal, whom she destroys in the scandal. The whole place is in an uproar. Lotus and Tika are knocked unconscious by a Sleepnettle, while Aniva's Blood Demon is taking out everyone in her path. Brussel and Sible- the new Raven of the Wilds, are co-conspirators in the whole transformation, trying no doubt, to prove a point that Aniva belongs with the Wilds in the Murder.

It is pretty clear you need to pay close attention to the happenings, because there is just so much going on. Again the plantlore will trip you up if you aren't carefully paying attention to that also. Overall, not a bad read. I would say this is a decent book but not the best ever. I would recommend it to younger readers.

This is a great YA. There's adventure, danger, crushes, and character growth and development.
The main characters are twins- one male, one female - who, of course, couldn't be more different. They discover a world different from ours and become entrenched in the goings on.
It's a fantastical world with wonderfully exotic, and even dangerous, plants. Some plants can infect people turning them into a Wild.

It's a fantastic story, very engaging. There are some spots where I feel things could be more descriptive but overall the wrting leaves wonderful imagery in my head.
