Two men. Two Families. Too many secrets.When Castellani security specialist Max Pedretti is reluctantly loaned out to the Esposito Family, he's thrust into close quarters with their youngest Capo, Bricker Soldano. The magnetic pull between them is undeniable, but Bricker is strictly off-limits, for multiple reasons.

For one thing, he's an Esposito.

For another, he's half Max's age.

But most of all, because Max shares a hidden criminal history with Bricker's father—a secret that could shatter the tentative trust building between them.

So Max vows to focus on the job instead, and finds his old skills as a bank robber are put to the test as he works with Bricker and his crew on a heist that could change the power dynamics in Los Angeles.

But when a tragedy reveals a mole in their midst, Max and Bricker must investigate together to uncover the truth, blurring the lines of loyalty and desire.

Can Max and Bricker uncover the traitor and find their way to love, or will past sins cost them everything?

***

Each book in this series tells the love story of a different couple who find their happy ending, as well as a resolution to the mystery they're investigating, but there are cliffhangers to the wider suspense plot for the series.

Leighton Greene has been writing stories since she was old enough to hold a pencil. Her first book was a choose-your-own-adventure style book about deciding what to eat for breakfast. It didn't shake the New York Times bestseller list, but she still has a copy of it.

After spending some time writing in academia, fanfiction and corporate reporting, Leighton decided she should probably do what she actually wanted to do, which was to write commercial fiction. So she did. She writes gay romance and, when the mood strikes, erotica as L.J. Greene.

Leighton lives with her partner and her cockatiel on the east coast of Australia.

I seriously cannot get enough of the West Coast Mobster characters and I was so excited to see what exactly makes Max tick. His story sure didn't disappoint, much like every other Mafia Romance written By Leighton Greene it was insanely good. The relationship build between Max and Bricker was the perfect blend of reluctance, attraction, angst, passion and love. The story itself was amazing, there are so many twists and turns, secrets revealed, danger and emotion. The bond these two are able to form amongst the harshness of their world was extremely heartfelt and gentle. These two ended up being perfect for each other despite all of the obstacles standing in their way to a HEA. I cannot wait to see what's next in this series, it is so good!! I 100% recommend this read and series.

Another amazing and suspenseful monster story. Max Pedretti is the Castellani security specialist at Redwood manor and an intelligent and sexy guy. He has a past with many secrets and some things that leave him with some guilt. Due to what happened in the previous book with Vinnie’s death, Anna-Vittoria wants a favor, and that favor is Max Pedretti as an envoy. He joins Bricker’s crew to lend his expertise but no one trusts an outsider. Especially Bricker. It takes them some time to get on the same page even though there is attraction and a connection from the start. These two guys have amazing chemistry, even though they are more enemy than friendly. At least on Bricker’s side. This book has so many twists and turns and a mystery to solve like the previous books. It has steamy, sensual scenes. Blood and gore. And all the typical mafia family things that make up a great book. The writing is wonderfully done. I was left guessing and second guessing the answers to many questions and was still surprised at some hidden gems! It was a thoroughly enjoyable book.

Great addition to the West Coast Mobsters series! One of the main characters is Max Pedretti, Castellani security guard, who has previously been in the sidelines until now. Max was first mentioned in His Brutal Heart, when Alessandro promotes him. The other main character is Bricker Soldano, loved his actual first name more than his nickname lol, who is a Capo in the Esposito Family. We have been introduced to this family throughout the series, but now we finally have one as a main character!

The Esposito Donna, or Maestra as she prefers, is interested in Max helping Bricker on an assignment working against a common Mob enemy, the Pacific Syndicate or PacSyn.

The first third of the book is introducing the MCs to each other and Max becoming integrated into Bricker’s crew. It felt like Ocean’s Eleven to me, like we are introduced to this ragtag bunch working on a heist. Max even points out that there are a lot of people to keep track of, which I thought was funny because I was having a bit of a struggle the first time I read this as well. I even wrote all their names down to help me remember! Its not a bad thing though, just different as we haven’t had such a big crew (maybe Ciro’s old inner circle?) that the readers had to keep track of.

Regarding the relationship between Max/Bricker, bringing Max in with the crew helps the guys learn more about how each other work and gain respect, which kindles the initial attraction they both felt for each other to grow into a relationship. Max has total Daddy vibes, and Bricker is completely into it! They do remind me a bit of Angelo/Baxter from their book in the Morelli series, sort of a prequel to this one since they happen in the same universe. Baxter, Bricker…even sound sort of the same, how these young dudes like a hot, older man to compliment them? Am I reaching? Probably.

Max is partly there to help Bricker’s crew because certain mess-ups have been occurring during previous heists and they want this one to go well. When it ends very badly, it is revealed there is a mole in the crew and now Max/Bricker are working together to figure out who the mole is. The tragedy in the middle was so sad and because Greene spent the time developing these characters, you actually do feel something when the tragedy strikes.

Now it almost feels like this story could get really heavy, but the way Greene writes adds levity to the story. It isn’t all gloom and doom, there is some lightness, and the characters have great dialogue. We get jokes! Dad jokes, and little quips like calling Julian “Psycho Ken” I laughed a lot a that one!

My main criticism of the book is that there is a bit more told to us about these characters than is shown, since this story feels to be like a sidestep from the main Castellani plot that we have been following. It even acknowledges this when we hear about a Castellani event that went a bit crooked, although I’m fairly certain that the intention is for this to be a main plot point in Book 5, His Guilty Pleasure. I already have it preordered and am so excited!

We have been following Jack, Julian, and Alessandro since Vow of the Vigilante, so Max/Bricker feel sort of new and not as developed yet. I still absolutely loved this book; it really adds to the complexity of this West Coast Mob world that Greene has been building. Greene is one of my favorite authors and there is a reason, these are not just throw away romances. There are plot twists, suspense, action, as well as lots of sexiness! I can read these books over and over again and I find myself amazed how certain things are alluded to keep the reader engaged, but plot twists are revealed and not left hanging…except to get you to come back to the next one, which I am always looking forward to!

To broker peace between the Castellani and Esposito Families, a favour was promised. And now, it's being cashed in.

Max isn't sure what he's in for when he's asked to help with one of the Esposito Capos, but it certainly wasn't a blast from the past. Bricker is the son of Max's currently incarcerated former bank robbing partner. And now Max is not only keeping that secret from him, but he's also hopelessly attracted to the man. And that attraction is very much reciprocated.

But, as is natural with this series, there's fuckery afoot. There's a mole in Bricker's crew, and it's on Bricker and Max to find out who it is, and take them out. Which is not nearly as easy as it seems.

Again, as seems to be usual for this series, the secrets, betrayals, and deception runs deep. Far deeper than anyone really anticipated. But it's more than that - it's more than just the Castellanis and the Bernardis being at war, and more than a mole within the Esposito ranks. I have a sneaking suspicion about who's truly causing unrest with the West Coast Mobsters, but I'll keep those suspicions to myself for now.

For now, Bricker has a problem, and Max wants to help him fix it. The attraction between the two is instantaneous. And highly inconvenient, but convenience never seemed to be the aim of the game. Max is an outsider within Bricker's crew, and it's going to take more than his steady disposition and years of experience to assuage the Espositos.

But the more things go wrong for Bricker and his crew, the more Max digs them out of deep, deep holes. And that does earn him a fair bit of trust and respect. And a steady place in Bricker's bed.

Even with the strides they make as they get closer together, secrets always have a way of coming out at the least opportune moment. But laying it all out on the table manages to bring Max and Bricker closer together. And they really do work better together than against each other.

But as the bonds between Max and Bricker grow and become solid, so too do the bonds between the Castellanis and the Espositos. Not that their respective bosses had much choice in the matter. But it's an alliance that I think is going to be necessary as we get closer and closer to the conclusion of the series.

There's something big stirring. Something bigger than the implosion of the Bernardi Family, and the imminent war between them and the Castellanis. And with so many of our mobsters finding their perfect matches, there is a lot at stake for whatever is about to happen.

I have enjoyed this series and was looking forward to getting Max's HEA, but this did not work for me. Listen--those who have read my reviews and know me know that I do not read these for the intrigue or mystery. Most times it's all very predictable and I don't really care too much about the overall plot. That is the same here--nothing, and I mean NOTHING shocked me in this. I knew everything from early on, but again, not why I'm here.

I am here for the romance and I found no chemistry or connection between Bricker and Max. I felt absolutely nothing between these two but attraction and once they started saying they were falling for each other I could not understand how we got here. Max and Bricker are attracted to each other, but then have this back and forth or can I trust him, he's an outsider narrative and it was all whatever. I just didn't feel anything for these two that made me need them together.

What had me irrationally angry from the start was Bricker and his role as the Capo. He's supposed to be this leader and make the hard decisions, but nothing he did made me have faith in him. He lead with his heart and was out to prove himself and that made him blinded to what needed to be done. He didn't trust his gut and continuously put his team at risk. Max told him he was a natural and a great leader--I saw no evidence of this. Bricker knew there was mole and chose to ignore it. He knew something wasn't right, knew he should call off the jobs, but let his pride get in the way and it resulted in Rook's death. Then everyone patted him on the head and said he wasn't to blame and this was a mistake you can learn from. ROOK DIED BECAUSE YOU MADE BAD CHOICES. I'm sorry, but that is a fact that no one wanted to say to Bricker's face and that pissed me off. Yes, they knew the risks going in, but as Capo it is your job to minimize that. Bricker ignored the signs, ignored his gut, and put his team at risk. That really pissed me off. I don't know why it hit me so strongly, but that soured me for the rest of the book.

So. All in all my favorite parts were Julian cameos and Sandro wanting his Max back. Other than that, this felt repetitive and boring and the MC's had no real connection for me. Will I read the next book? Yes because we are back at Redwood Manor and I'm hoping it will be much better than this.

I have to admit I'm not usually a fan of May-December romances, but after a rough start Max and Bricker just fit together so well that I was completely absorbed in their story from the very first (tension-filled) meeting.

Massimo Pedretti is one of those old-school, honorable men of Angelo Messina's generation, younger than the original (and now largely deceased) LA dons but seasoned enough to be a steadying influence for Bricker's hotter temper. Both men are carrying their own secrets that could permanently change how they see one another, and both are too important to their respective Families to take any sort of relationship between them lightly - the stress of their situation is compounded by a mole in Bricker's crew, a big job gone terribly wrong, and the dawning realization that neither of them can hide their true feelings much longer.

We didn't see a whole lot of Max in the previous books, and as far as I can remember after a quick series re-read, Bricker (Fabrizio Soldano) is an entirely new character. If Greene weren't such a masterful writer this might have made it more difficult to get into the story, but Max is immediately framed as both tactically and emotionally (as far as the Castellanis show emotion) valuable to his Family, and Bricker is in such a different position to the other Castellani partners that it was very interesting to get his perspective. As a Capo he isn't removed from the business like Miller and Teddy, and as an Esposito he is completely loyal to his Family, unlike Leo's eventual parting from the Bernardis.

This is definitely my favorite mafia series (tied with the east coast Morellis of course), and this installment sets up the next one pretty neatly - I've got my fingers crossed that the next pairing is Raffi DeLuca and Darian the mysterious butler, and we've still got a big Bernardi mess to clean up.

It's a mafia story, a great romance, and an intriguing mystery! This is my favorite of the series so far. Leighton Greene's books always give you great characters who are very well-developed and exist in a world with a full family of side characters. Her plots are riveting. This book has all that plus a mystery that holds your attention throughout the book trying to guess who did it. So many surprises were happening right up until the very end.

Max is a security expert from the Castellani family who is on loan to the Esposito family at the request of their leader Anna-Vittoria after she calls in a favor that Sandro Castellani owes her. He is told to work with Bricker, an Esposito Capo. The two are polar opposites. Max is older, calm, analytical, and thinks before he speaks while Bricker is much younger, emotional, shows what he's thinking, and is very stubborn.

From the beginning, the two are attracted to each other, but there are trust issues because of the situation they've been put into. Not only is Bricker distrustful of Max, but so is his crew in the beginning. At first, they view him as an outsider from another mafia family, but as Max works with them on jobs, he proves his reliability, resourcefulness, and loyalty to the crew.

Max and Bricker develop a relationship and while it isn't easy given all the factors against them, they fall deeper and deeper into a bond that is both serious and beautiful. At the same time, there are plot twists galore. Amidst betrayal and intrigue, they set out to find out who the mole is. There is plenty of action in the storyline. I loved this book and I loved the dynamics between Max and Bricker! I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Leighton Greene has become one of my favorite authors when it comes to mafia romances. She is so wonderful at building these complex stories that intertwine with each other while still being unique. Every time I open one of her books, I devour it in one sitting and then think about it constantly while waiting (patiently) for the next one.

In this book, we still have the ongoing conflict between the West Coast families. Max Pedretti, Castellini security expert, is being loaned to the Esposito family to help with an upcoming job. He’s added to Bricker Soldano’s crew. Bricker is unaware that Max has a complicated past with Bricker’s father. Max and Bricker’s relationship definitely had its ups and downs throughout the story. I did feel like they complimented each other well. The age gap was absolutely perfect.

The mystery was also really well done. I had no clue who the mole was because my suspicion kept moving from one person to another. They all seemed like they were capable of being the mole. I loved each person of Bricker’s team (except the mole of course) and cried during the heist. My heart just broke for them all.

I am already anticipating the next book. I may need to start over from book 1 to see how everything is all connected. I really, really loved this one and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves mafia books.

This story revolves around Castellani security specialist Max Pedretti and Bricker Soldano, the youngest Capo of the rival Esposito Family. When Max is loaned to the Espositos, he's drawn to Bricker, but their relationship is forbidden due to their family allegiances, a significant age gap, and a hidden criminal past Max shares with Bricker's father. Max tries to focus on his assignment, using his old bank robbing skills to help Bricker's crew with a high-stakes heist aimed at shifting power in Los Angeles. However, a tragedy exposes a mole within their ranks, forcing Max and Bricker to investigate together. This investigation blurs the lines between their professional duties and growing personal desires. The central conflict questions whether they can uncover the traitor and forge a romantic relationship, or if Max's past secrets will ultimately destroy everything.

I loved this story with the two men from different families trying to trust each other while trying to find the mole in their team. The dynamic of their relationship was interesting and was a mixture of comfort and feelings that could culminate in explosive passion. Lots of emotions and feelings as they navigated through difficult moments. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

** I received an ARC with the understanding that I would post an unbiased review. **

This was very sweet, not something that might be expected to be said about a mafia book. It also had a minor twist at the end that I wasn't expecting at all. I loved how balanced and thoughtful Max was, it made me hope for his happiness even more. Bricker's support for his people was wonderful to see, although he did let it blind him to the mole. I didn't figure out who the mole was, so good job on keeping that well-hidden. I also liked the secondary characters overall, they were all their own personalities.

I had expected, from the blurb, more of a Daddy vibe than was present, other than mentions of the age difference, there wasn't really anything about that trope present. I don't think Max being more calm made him a Daddy. But, other than missed expectations, I didn't mind that. I also found it a little long, I think there was more detail than was always necessary.

I was glad Van found happiness in the end, and I'm wondering if he's going to get his own book. I like how the different Families are coming together as the books go along. It was wonderful to see Max and Bricker find their way together, they were very sweet with each other and seeing them happy made my heart happy.

I absolutely love mafia romances and if you do too, you’ll love this one. These two don’t get off on the right foot and honestly the odds are stacked against them in so many ways. Ofcourse they rub each other the wrong way so there is loads of delicious animosity and sparks fly between them kicking off all sorts of instant attraction vibes culminating in some super steamy scenes but this book was also so much more emotional than I was prepared for.

If you enjoy a fast paced suspense plot, sizzling slow burn with sharp edges of animosity in your mafia romance check this one out. It’s a guaranteed fun, unpredictable ride with surprise twists that keep you on your toes
There are layers of subterfuge, different mafia families at play, bank robberies and a whodunit plot with loads of action.

Each book in the this series is a distinct experience in its own right though the overarching plot does need you to read them in order.

Expect:

* Slow burn
* Mafia romance
* Age gap
* Suspense and intrigue
* Praise Kink
* Opposites attract
* Hurt comfort

Fourth in series (West Coast Mobsters), best if read in order due to shared cast of characters. Action suspense. Age gap. Slow burn. Dual POV. Being tasked as an envoy to another mafia family, Max is asked to help young capo Bricker and his crew with a bank heist. Max thought he had left bank robberies behind, and keeping secrets from Bricker about his past and the Castellani family business is a tight juggling act. Bricker has his own secrets, but he needs help as there may be a mole on his crew, and he has to work hard to ignore the attraction he feels for Max. Both Bricker and Max are loyal, dedicated men that are familiar with violence but are so sweet and supportive together. Tons of chemistry and plenty of scenes together that show their growing feelings allow for a little romance in between the danger and action going on around them. I enjoyed the journey of their relationship as well as the push-pull between family loyalties and the investigation into finding out the true villains. Still totally engrossed in this series, and can’t wait for more. 4.5 rounded up

Another compelling entry in the West Coast Mobsters series. I appreciate how the stories unfold across multiple books, each with a complete story arc but connected to the other books by characters, plot points and those little aha! details that keep you immersed.

It all just feels so real! I want to believe that this is actually the way things are in the mob. Greene gives us the familiar tropes of brutality, dispassionate execution, and found family seasoned with tenderness, connection, and excellently plotted mysteries. I read this in one sitting as I couldn't wait to see what happened next. While there were plenty of clues to follow to the denouement, there were also surprises, and surprising links to the larger story being told.

I highly recommend this series, and everything else Leighton Greene writes.

His Sinful Need is the fourth book in Leighton Greene's West Coast Mobsters series. I have loved all the books (and her Morelli Family series). This fourth book is another five-star book. The main characters in this book are Max Pedretti, the Castellani head of security, and Bricker Soldano, a Capo for the Esposito family. This is a very well-written story that brings the two families into contact through Max and Bricker.

Exploring other families and how they interact is one of the things the author does very well. I got a good idea of the power structure for the Espositos. The head of the family is a woman, a smart and powerful woman, and that is a nice change. Characters from previous books drop in to help, like Jack with his Pinto driving people around. Or to scare the ever-loving-$hit out of people, like a smiling Julian offering to send Max's friend (Bricker) "straight to the cells? They're partially filled in, but the cement's still wet, so --".

The plot has a mystery, lots of action, and a May-to-December romance. The mystery took me as long as the characters to solve. I did not guess the solution earlier and that is always fun. The romance was hot, angsty, and sweet. I pre-ordered the fifth book in the series today. The Morelli Series is being released on audio and I am buying them as they come out. If you enjoy gay mob romances (three years ago I did not know this genre existed), you will enjoy the Morelli and West Coast Mobsters series.

I received an advanced review copy from the author. I had already preordered the book. I read the arc, wrote an honest review, and was happy to receive my paid copy when it was released.

This is a excellent series, the world building is exceptional and I love gritty and complicated mafia family politics. This one is a very appealing age gap romance with the added complexity of Max’s past history with Bricker’s father. I loved being imbedded within the Esposito family this time around. I especially getting to see more from Anna-Vittoria, the Esposito boss is an amazing character. I also liked the heist vibe and being with Bricker and his crew was fun. Plus, the mystery of the mole’s identity was skillfully executed. This feels like an authentic and dangerous world, so I loved the surprising sweetness is Max and Bricker’s romance. These two build quite a lovely connection. Great couple, great series!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

The Enemy of My Enemy

Max Pedretti of the Castellani Family has been sent as envoy to the Espositos, where he's teamed up on a job under Capo Bricker. Bricker is fit, younger than him and prickly, and Max can't help the instant attraction.
Bricker is determined that Max knows that he's to answer to him as Capo despite his age - 28 - and Max knows how to play nice.
Unfortunately a few of the new team he's working with have issues with him, particularly the second Van.
Of course when someone betrays them on a job the two from different families have to work together to find the traitor ... By way of the bedroom of course.
This is full of action, betrayal, steam, laughter and grief, but we get a couple of welcome cameos with Julian and Jack joining the fights.
Another great instalment.

In this next book of the California Mobsters, Max the Castellani Security Specialist goes to help out the Esposito family as a favor. He gets and gives respect to the youngest Capo, Bricker until it becomes more for both. Max is wise and patient, calm and heroic, unusual traits and attributes for a "mobster". Betrayals, death and sorrow follow them and loyalties are strained but always uppermost for them. Many surprising twists and really hot sex crop up and someone could really use a Daddy! Appearances by previous MC's are welcomed. I love these books as much as the Morelli series and the Castellani's grow on you. I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

"His Sinful Need" is book 4 in Leighton Greene's West Coast Mobsters series. It is another excellent mafia story. Leighton Greene writes some of my favorite mafia books. The world building is excellent, the characters are fantastic and the stories pull you right in. "His Sinful Need" had me right from the start. There was everything a great mafia story needs: action, drama, betrayal, and several things you don't see coming. I always enjoy being in the authors mafia world and I cannot wait for what comes next.

This was one of my favorite West Coast Mobsters books. Bricker and Max were wonderful together and Bricker's crew were terrific and I spent most of the story trying to figure out who the mole was(guessed wrong of course). I especially liked that the head of the Espositos was a woman and never guessed the deep secret she held until the big reveal. It bothered me about Bricker's father until you learned the truth of the job that put him in prison. Rook's death was so painful and I loved that his death was avenged in the best way. Looking forward to the next book.

I feel like this is the most complete book in the series. The plot is compelling, with twists that keep you on the edge of your seat. The balance between romance and the mafia elements is expertly done, and everything feels well thought out.

The introduction of new characters brings a fresh perspective to the series and adds depth in a way that feels natural and engaging. I especially enjoyed getting to know the other families better—it expanded the world and made the story even more immersive.

Sleep is my favorite hobby, but I willingly gave it up to read this book. I was immediately drawn into this story that skillfully mixed betrayal with trust, love with hate, and safety with peril. Far from predictable, I *had* to keep reading to find out what would happen next and it was never what I expected. The only expectation that I got right was that Leighton Greene would write a fantastic story, and she did NOT disappoint.

Could not put it down. I'm just in love with the series, the characters, the plot, and the romance.

I was afraid the romance/smut would be too quick but it's not the case at all! It felt real and just right.
The mystery was intriguing, suspenseful and at one point in the story I actually wanted to cry. 🥺

I'm only subtracting 0.5* for the subplot with Max and Bricker's family history. It didn't make sense, felt forced when explained. The angst was there but felt unnecessary.

I'm looking forward to the next couple. February cannot come soon enough!

Mob romance among mystery

Max and Bricker were insanely combustible together.
Watching them develop their relationship while trying to navigate a mystery kept me thoroughly engaged.
There's plenty of fast paced action, danger, drama, betrayal and plot twists.
I really enjoy a good mystery and the author really made me work to discover the mole's identity which pleasantly surprised me.

Max & Bricker

Enjoyed this one about two men, both loyal to their families and put together by those they serve. Max can’t believe how young Bricker is and also can’t stop looking at him. Bricker can’t believe how hot Max is. Max has a past he hides from Bricker, there’s a mole somewhere in the team and max can’t stop saving Bricker’s life. Love that we get to see Julian and all his Julian-ness! Great story, looking forward to more of the west coast families.

I'm not normally a lover of a mafia story as overdone with the exception of anything by Leighton! Just love this book, another excellent addition to the series. A well written storyline with both great plot and character development, plenty of angsty moments, romance and an intriguing mystery! Such a great dynamic family and just loved how intriguing this plot was, it kept me hooked until the end.

4.5! Really good book. For me this was a really complete book - good plot, good twists, good action and good good good coupling. I wanted to read Pedretti’s book since getting first appeared on Sandro’s book, and it did not disappoint! I’m sooo glad it ended how it ended, and I’m really happy about them staying in each of their families. Loved Jack, Sandro and Julian’s appearances and even if I understood some of Bricker’s reactions, I kinda wanted to punch him in the face sometimes.

Max and Bricker together

Two mafia families, lots of secrets, a mole in the crew, older man with a younger man, and finding love. Max is forced to work with another family to repay a debt. Bricker is forced to bring an outsider into his crew to work on a secret project, which goes sideways due to a mole on the crew. Now they must work together to find the mole and deal with secrets they are keeping all the while falling in love.

I loved His Sinful Need. I loved Max and Bricker. Max was commanded to go somewhere else as a apologies for what they have done for a little while. Max trys to hide his past from Bricker. Max tried to deny that he wasn't in love with Bricker and that he wasn't gay. They had to figure out who's behind the murder of Bricker members and who's trying to kill them and who's the mole
