I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain crosseyed.

I love talking to my readers so email me if you have any questions or even if you just want to chat...

I have waited so long to finally see how this amazing journey would come to an end and I wasn’t disappointed; Dead Chaos is full of emotional turmoil.

Right from the very start, the reader is thrown into the horrific crimes of hate that have been thrust upon Bryn; and yet the ever strong and stoic heroine is pushed to her very limits and still manages to think about how the people she cares about feel. Her friends and their safety are always of utmost importance to her – I love Bryn!

This really is a ‘not-to-be-missed’ story.
Love, hate, adventure, mystery, angst and a whole lot of soul searching culminates into the most addictive story of Valkyrie and Norse Mythology I’ve read to date. I knew the conclusion to this series would be epic but exactly how epic, well it blew my mind.
So many twists and turns, surprises and shocks, but I have to keep my lips sealed – no spoilers here!!
(But I did have to keep the tissues close pretty much throughout)

A tear jerker, a fun and complex quest, and an unexpected and fitting ending all make Dead Chaos one of my favorite books!

Review: I was given a copy of Dead Chaos by Love Romance books for an honest review. Here we continue with Bryn’s story and her loss of her wings. She is trying to make sure that she isn’t the reason the All-Father dies. She goes to the three fates and she is trying to dins the Heimdall and his horn. Will she find them in time? Odin’s life hangs in the balance and Bryn has to find a way to save them so she can find out who she really is. Wow! This book and series has me all excited! I love Thor so to read a book about Odin and Asgard I was thrilled. This book was really good and I highly recommend this story and series. I give it 4 out of 5 stars!

Oh my Lordy does T.G. Ayer get more complex, more thrilling, pretty much more everything with each new book in her The Valkyrie Series. That’s certainly the case with its third book, Dead Chaos. I’m not going to summarize it as the publisher’s blurb does a very good job of that (without accidentally giving away too much), but let me just say that Bryn Halbrook is in fine form (and the presence or lack of wings makes no difference here in the end), and this is one heck of a total thrill of an adventure. For those who read the first two books go ASAP and get this one. Trust me that you simply need it. For newcomers, you’ve been missing a huge treat, though I strongly urge you to start with book 1 for maximum enjoyment.

Highly recommended, to say the least.

I cried so much at the beginning of this book. What Dr.Lee did to Bryn is unbelievable and unforgivable. Aidan becomes so wrapped up with the computer files and his fathers research that he doesn't see what the big deal is.
But Aimee and Joshua are there for her. It seems whatever the universe throws at Bryn she overcomes.
I believe this is the best and the worst book in the series. The best because Ms. Ayer is a wonderful writer, the worst because Ms. Ayer is a wonderful writer and she made me cry.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! That was a crazy, intense, roller coaster ride. My emotions were all over the place! There is a lot going on in this one, and at times I felt like my head was spinning with all the twists and turns. I don't want to say anything about the plot so I'm just going to recommend that all fantasy/mythology lovers pick it up. You need to start with book one, though, or you will be lost. This series just gets more and more intense, which is one of my favorite things about T.G. Ayer as an author, and I can't wait for the next one.

Anticipation had me stepping into this one curious on how this would proceed. The interwoven mythology twisted to fit this story has me caught up into once again. This is a world you step into with Bryn wanting to be with her every step of the way. This one will also do its best to pull on your emotions with all its mite. Her heart is bigger than she is too. Watch out too for the twists that will leave you in a mess but by the time you reach the conclusion of this one you almost do not leave.

This series is amazing. The story keeps a great story line without losing any of it's upswing. The books follow each other with great flow. The lead character is amazing and strong. She has so much put on her and she continues to rise without a problem. The supporting characters are well represented and you feel like you know them all and are part of their group. The writing is strong and clear. I just love, love, love this series!!

A quest for answers

The intrigue continues as the battle for Ragnarok draws near. Bryn is conflicted, now that her wings are gone, is she even a Valkrie any more? Where does she fit in? Her quest to discover these questions leads her down a dangerous path that will cost her dearly in the end.

So much is going on in this book!
Bryn is still dealing with the loss of her wings, missions that seem impossible to retrieve, the loss of a friend and another completely changed that needs to be watched.
Loki wants Bryn and a war is about to begin and Odin might miss it.
I would highly recommend this book and series.

At first I didn’t understand why Bryn is sent over and over for the important missions. But the truth about that will be revealed in this book.
The trickster god may have a weakness after all, which makes an all the more interesting story.
And where is Odin in all of this?
The tension rises still, as Ragnarok approaches.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Bryn has many hard decisions to make in this novel, and I really fell for Joshua in this book. I would recommend this book for readers that enjoy fantasy that is strongly tied in with mythology and is written from a YA POV.

A good story and I liked the norse gods. I do think the plot is becoming slightly repetitive with the formula in how the quests are plotted out.

DEAD CHAOS - TG Ayer. 3 Stars - read, action, adventure, paranormal, fantasy, fairy tale, romance, murder, YA

“Everything seems to be falling apart for Bryn. She's lost her wings and she's losing Aidan. He's no longer the boy she loved. And then there's Joshua. Why does it feel so right to be with him?

As if she doesn't have enough on her mind, Bryn learns of a prophecy that predicts that she will be the reason for Odin's destruction. Bryn is desperate to find a way to change her future, and sets of to Yddrasil to speak to the Norns.

Can Bryn change her Fate? Can she help Aidan find his path, while making the choice between him and Joshua? And can Bryn finally save Brody from the clutches of the Frost Giants?”

The book opens pretty much where the second one left off - Bryn has been rescued, but too late to save her wings. During the ten or so days that she been captured in Dr. Lee's lab all kinds of terrible things had been done to her. It was clear from her condition that once they'd gotten all the information they were after they'd have killed her - luckily her friends got there first. Valkyrie Sigrun, as well as einherjar Amiee, Joshua, and Aidan are all there. Aidan, Bryn's boyfriend and the man she repeatedly risked her life to rescue, behaves atrociously. His behavior shocks everyone, making Bryn realize she probably never really knew him, though of course that doesn't stop the pain his behavior causes. Nevertheless, Bryn sticks by her word, and she and the team assist Aidan in rescuing his mother and sister, who had been Loki's hostages.

Back at Asgard Bryn speaks with The All-Father, Odin, and his wife Frigga. Rather than the pity she so deeply fears, she is greeted with kindness, as well as shock, anger, and sorrow over the loss of her wings. After being debriefed by Odin, Bryn is sent off for healing with Eir, the Goddess of Mercy and Healing. While healing Bryn overhears Frigga and Eir discussing a prophecy that states she will be the cause of Odin's downfall.

Hearing of the prophecy sparks a chain of events, beginning with Bryn sneaking in to speak with Odin's Oracle/Uncle, Mimir. From there she is sent on a series of quests, including rescuing the Gjallerhorn from Loki, rescuing the God Heimdall, to whom the Gjallerhorn belonged, and wounding Loki with a weapon that had been covered with the water from the Hall of Fate, located beneath the Yggdrasil, otherwise known as the Tree of Life.

Throughout her adventures there are many surprises to be discovered, some of the happy kind, and some of the heartbreaking kind, as well as some that were not yet determined, having the potential to fall either way. Bryn has grown up quite a bit from the person we met in book one, and she continues to grow and mature, though she doesn't seem to be very self-aware much of the time. She often seems oblivious to her impact on others, be they Huldra, Einherjar, Warriors, or Gods. And yet she is a strong woman, without being closed off from her own emotions.

While I've enjoyed this series it is beginning to feel a bit repetitive to me, or formulaic. Bryn must go on seemingly impossible tasks, against all odds, and she somehow manages to succeed each time. This happens a few times in each book, with all of the books ending on some sort of fantastic cliffhanger to ensure the readers return to find out what happens next. And while that method certainly works, I think it would be nice to have the characters make me return, not because they are in dire straits, but simply because I am invested in their story and would like to know what comes next. One could argue the two ending types are the same, but I obviously disagree. With that said, I fully expect that I will be reading the fourth book in this series when it comes out.

Dead Chaos is the latest installment in the Valkyrie series. It picks up immediately where Dead Embers left off. Valkyrie Bryn no longer has her wings and is in shock, as her friends try to comfort her and get her to return to Asgard. She refuses and insists on seeing the evidence of what was done to her. As you might expect, it was nothing less than shocking.

When Bryn returns to Asgard, she no longer feels like she is a Valkyrie. Learning of a prophecy that states she will be responsible for the All-Father's death, she takes off to visit the Fates at the base of the Tree of Life. This begins a journey for Bryn that is probably her most important yet.

Dead Chaos is a wonderfully crafted narrative and if you enjoyed the first two novels it will surely satisfy your need to hear the continuation of Bryn's journey. Bryn may doubt herself, but this is part of what makes her strong - you can't be brave if you don't have fear. Though she may no longer have her wings, and doesn't feel like a real Valkyrie anymore, she proves to be just as brave - if not braver – as some of her counterparts, and true at heart. Bryn gets hit with continual revelations about those around her and about herself. Someone she thought she knew and loved, turns out she didn't really know at all. Despite all the battles that Bryn has to go through she comes through on the other side with perspective, not an inflated ego. She's not indestructible and neither is her heart. Though it's quite possible, even with the loss of her wings, that her heart truly takes the hardest hits.

One of the final revelations confirms a suspicion I've had since the first novel, but it doesn't feel tacky or out of place. It just fits - like so much of the writing, it's natural. We have visited some of the places in the nine worlds on Bryn's journey and with any luck, maybe we'll get to see the rest before her story is really over, or Ragnarok comes and destroys it all anyway.

Since I've never been much of a comic book fan, I didn't know about Thor until the movie, and Norse mythology has always been one of the "other" mythologies. Greek, honestly, has always been my favorite. But Dead Radiance change that for me. It's made me want to know more about the Valkyries, I want to know more about Fen and Loki, and even just their relationship (as Loki is Fen's father). I can say without a doubt this series has inspired me; possibly I'll find the answers I'm looking for in my own research.

In the meantime, if you're looking for books that incorporates mythology into our contemporary world, then this is a series for you to pick up. Don't forget to start with Dead Radiance and work your way through Dead Chaos.

Review:

I’m a newbie to the Urban Fantasy genre so I’ve been very pleased with the Valkyrie series. When I was first asked to read and review Dead Chaos which was book 3 in the series I was also given the opportunity to read Dead Radiance (Book 1) and Dead Embers (Book 2) and needless I was pleased to have agreed to review Dead Choas.

I felt so bad at the end of Dead Embers when Valkyrie Bryn Holbrook had lost her wings that when I started reading Dead Chaos and found that it picked up where Dead Embers left off I was very pleased.

Bryn has always been a fighter and has refused to be brought to her knees no matter what has been thrown at her. She is strong but has doubt. She is brave but has fear. She loves but doesn’t feel she deserves to be loved. This is even more true now that she is wingless and feels she can no longer fulfill her destiny as a real Valkyrie but do the wings define the Valkyrie or does the heart?

As Bryn visits the Tree Of Fates she finds answers to many of her questions on her journey but she also finds out things about her friends and allies but are these revelations for the good or the bad? Are those closest to her who they appear to be? Again is a Valkyrie defined by their wings or by their heart? I’ll leave you to find those answers in the fabulous stories told by T.G. Ayers in Dead Chaos and the previous two Valkyrie novels.

I give this novel an A+.

I am absolutely in love with this series. Each book just keeps getting better and better. I was completely taken with this book. I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to keep reading to learn what was going to happen next for this amazing cast of characters. This book took a toll on me unlike the others in the series. It had my emotions in pieces and shattered my heart. Even though it broke my heart I still loved it. It was an eventful, adventurous and wonderful story.

I love Bryn. She’s so strong and brave. She never ceases to amaze me in this series. She’s a beautiful and courageous girl who keeps growing and growing as the stories continue. I felt so bad for her throughout the book. She definitely keeps enduring so much more than she should have to with all the good and kindles that she has in her. I was so glad that she kept fighting and trying to save everyone around her that she loves.

Aidan completely let me down in this book. I had loved him so much in the series but in this book I couldn’t help but be disappointed in him. Disappointed in the way that he completely shut down and changed. I so hope that in the next book the Aidan I love will be back and prove himself to everyone around him.

I was completely surprised by Joshua in this one. I couldn’t help but let my love for him grow. He turned out to be so much more than I had ever thought he was up until now. I adored him. He was strong and so caring towards Bryn. He was just what she needed and deserved. She deserved some happiness and love in her life. He definitely proved in this one that he was worthy of her affections.

The story has all kinds of twist and turns and major cliff hangers everywhere you turn. It will keep you reading and wanting more. This has to have been my favorite of the series so far even though my wonderful Aidan let me down. I loved how strong everyone was. How together their friendship and love was for each other. Just prepare yourself because you will cry, I did. The story is beautiful but there is one part of it that will break your heart. These wonderful books are definitely becoming one of my favorite series. Just be prepared to be even more shocked in this one as you were in Dead Embers. I was left speechless by the end of the story.

Back in October last year I read the first two books in this series, I remember how excited I was about it and I was keen to see the story continue. Dead Chaos was a fabulous 3rd book in the series and even though there was a lot of action, it was an emotional read and massive secrets were revealed.

Now, if you haven’t read any books from this series, I will do my best to not spoil anything for you. There was a major incident at the end of the previous book that has everyone in shock, but no-one more than Bryn. She is doing her best to get over the incident and is getting terrific support from her friends Sigrun, Aimee and Joshua. Aidan is a bit distant now, his focus has shifted and I was a bit annoyed with him as Bryn has been through a lot with and without him. Soon however, Bryn is on a new adventure to discover more about her future and her place in the prophecy.

Bryn is still one tough chicka and even though she has had to deal with a lot she is still able to put it all aside to do what she needs too. The fate of the world depends on a few people including her, and she is able to put it all aside to do her job. Sigrun, Aimee and Joshua are her constant companions and it was nice to see more of them. They are great friends and will follow her anywhere. Aidan is a bit odd… but he too has other thoughts on his mind.

I enjoyed how this story built up. Many things clicked into place in this one as Bryn was on her own mission. T.G. Ayer has done a fantastic job continuing the story and my real issue was not reading the first two books for ages. If I read them consecutively I would’ve enjoyed the journey more. I am excited to see what happens now… Ragnarok is on the horizon and the prophecy is going to unfold!!

After being left gob smacked at the end of Dead Embers I was expecting lots to happen from such events in Dead Chaos. A lot did happen but not quite the way I expected. A certain boy had his jerk switched turned on, an on-and-off-again relationship ultimately ended, new love was quickly kindled and suddenly realized and Bryn got sent off on more missions than I'd have thought possible within one book. There is a lot of action, of intrigue, of team work, of friendships being forged deeper due to said action. Due to the amazing amount of actions sometimes not enough detail or focus is spent on the build up so I didn't get a build of anticipation towards many of the fighting scenes but they were still good because in each one someone or something was at stake. One of the characters did drop out of the entire story a little too conveniently for my liking, leaving a lot of issues that seemed resolved but didn't feel totally resolved to me. But despite that I still did enjoy the book which as always had an equally exciting ending that leads onto book four with much relief as I'm hoping to see a certain character make a come back with some hopefully dramatic consequences as well as wondering what brave Bryn will face next since the major truth she discovers in Dead Chaos. It is to be frank life changing. And hopefully game changing as it seems a certain prophecy is creeping nearer to being fulfilled. Which makes us as readers wonder how on earth Bryn will survive and she will do to save herself and those closest to her as impending doom approaches. We still have high expectations for what T G Ayer will bring us next.

Three Stars! What I thought I remembered just became reality.

MAJOR, MAJOR SPOILER.
*****If You Read This Review After You've Been Warned, You Will Hate Yourself.
You might hate me, too, but it will be Your Fault!!!
WARNING, WARNING WARNING. If you're a kid named Will Robinson, if you remember a TV show where Will Robinson was a character, if you know someone named Will Robinson, if you remember Mrs. Robinson, or if you've never read Robinson Crusoe.....
.....*****DON'T READ PAST THIS POINT!!!!!*****.....

There has been a reason Brynhildr has gone all of these super difficult assignments and adventures. They were tests. Brunhildr is knon as the daughter of Odin, but the Asgardians weren't sure that Brynhildr had retained enough of Brunhildr's essence to have the direct connection to Odin.

The assignments she had to complete had her working with both of Odin's Raven's, both of Odin's two wolves and using Odin's spear.

She faithfully executed all of her assignments, chose Asgards safety over reacquiring her wings (and won them both).

She lost Segrun in the last battle with Loki. After Segrun's Warrier Sendoff, Odin appears in the Hall annd once again gifts her his personal spear, announcing she is his true daughter.

Ragnorak, prepare for some major booty kicking.

Negatives? Same as before, but I missed some as the action built. Maybe I missed a lot of errors, afterall, I gave it four stars!

In "Dead Chaos," the world as Bryn knows it seems to be crashing down all around her, with her unable to stop it. She struggles with the loss of her wings, and on top of that, the gods keep up and disappearing: Loki has escaped from his brief capture, and Odin is seemingly no where to be found.

If that's not enough to demoralize the masses, the beginnings of Ragnarok are upon us. The tree of life seems to be dying at a startlingly fast rate, and it would appear that there is nothing to be done to stop its progress. When faced with all of this, what's a Valkyrie to do but to keep fighting?

I loved this third addition to the Valkyrie series. It was chop-full of love and loss, pain and perseverance, and most especially a courage and fortitude that would inspire and fortify the Asgardians for the battle to come.

I have enjoyed the Valkyrie series so far, but Dead Chaos has been my favourite by far. I really, really enjoyed Bryn's journey in this book. She really discovers what she's made of. Her adventures are intense and emotional. I love that her team are with her most of the way. I love the way she copes with the loss of her wings and how that makes her grow as a character.

There is more romance in this book compared to the others. Yay! Just want my soppy heart needs. That storyline was played out beautifully.

This book is an emotional ride, be warned...you will no doubt cry, but I didn't come away disappointed either. It was a great conclusion to a good series that still left you wanting a little more. Who knows, maybe one day T. G. Ayer will come to the party and send us back to Odin's throne room. Fingers crossed :)
