Enter Meshyah, Jasmine and Ozwald's world. They live under a megadome in Antarctica, the Earths's largest continent. It's years into our future and the world has changed drastically from what is now known, but life is surviving. On Shy's tenth birthday she and her friends, Jazz and Ozzie, find something that turns out to be extraordinary in A Tree on My House.
Just before her eleventh birthday she tells a tale of how part of the dome fell one day in The Day the Sky Fell. It shows how important their dome is to keep them safe and how Jasmine's home was destroyed by a single cable.
Under the Honeycomb Sky tells more of what their life is like under the dome, beginning Shy's five-year journal received on her twelfth birthday. Shy learns about the Before Times (our time) from her grandfather. She loves his stories and hopes to see the rest of the changed world when she grows up. She relates their experience in these stories the children write with hopes of sending her journal back to the past someday so the future of the world will be known. If you can read these stories you'll realize they must have succeeded.
The separate publications of each story are no longer available. There is no series.
Member since 2012 the first time. Please do not “friend request” me. I don’t honor this site, nor do I like to visit it. It is my opinion that GR has troll librarians who are conspicuous by their one star ratings, without ever bothering to buy/read the book. Nothing has occurred to change that opinion in over 7 years. I have books listed that are not supposed to be (never published) and a book that was listed for some time correctly is now missing and the toddler activity book listed in its place as part of the series. The titles are similar. The games never end. I have a very low opinion of this site, its owner, caretakers and policies. If you want to see my book listings and their true ratings look me up on Amazon.
TREE & SKY An Introduction to the Secrets of Meshyah’s World Judith Victoria Douglas
A COPY OF THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME BY THE AUTHOR IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.
Tree & Sky is a book for middle grade children written by Judith Victoria Douglas. Although it is billed as a collection of short stories, it reads more like a book in that there are continuities between the three stories, or chapters. Each of the stories, however, had been published separately at an earlier time.
As the title indicates, the stories center around Meshyah Bluebird Garcia, a Hispanic-American of Lakhota Sioux descent. Also at the center with Meshyah – or, Shy, as she is called – are her two closest friends, Jasmine, of East African descent, and Ozwald, of British descent. The three of them live under a geodesic dome on the Antarctic continent at what has become the north pole.
In the first story, or Chapter, “The Tree on My House”, Shy and her friends are 10 years old. The story explains about the geodesic dome under which they live, as well as the Before Times. Shy and her friends make a remarkable discovery on the patio roof of Shy’s home: a little seedling. The little seedling grew into a big tree, a very unexpected tree under their dome.
In the second story, “The Day the Sky Fell”, Shy and her friends are 11 years old. We learn more about life under the geodesic dome and the immense amount of work it takes to maintain the dome. When an emergency occurs, the dangerous and fragile nature of the dome becomes apparent.
In the third story, “Under a Honeycomb Sky”, Shy and her friends are 12 years old. Although the main event in this story is Shy’s twelfth birthday party, it describes even more about life under the geodesic dome.
For her twelfth birthday, Shy received a five year journal. She and her friends planned to find a way to send the journal, with their stories, into the past to warn the people of the Before Times about the devastating events to come. At the end of the book, we are told that Shy and her friends will write two more stories, which will be published in a separate book.
My favorite story is the first, “The Tree on My House”. It reminds me of the Native American legends written by Tomie dePaola, and the tree is truly a wonderful character.
In my opinion, Tree & Sky is a science fiction/environmental awareness book for children in late elementary school and early middle school grades. The writing and dialogue sometimes feel a bit stilted, but it is a creative and interesting story. I enjoyed reading Shy’s stories!

The book for review is TREE and SKY: An Introduction to The Secrets of Meshyah’s World by Judith Victoria Douglas. It's the author's first children's book. It is geared toward children in grades 3-5. The genre is Science Fiction/Fantasy.
The setting for this novel is in the future. The main characters and their families live at the bottom of the world on the planet's largest continent, Antarctica, at a time when much of the ice has melted. The people now live under megadomes as protection due to the drastic climate change after a massive solar flare hit Earth. It forever changed how people view and live their lives. Meshyah’s, know as Shy, along with her friends Jazz and Ozzie learns in school and from their parents about how they came to live under their great dome and what the Earth was like in the Before Times. The book gives details on how the community manages and how every one is important to its survival. The novel contains the children's first three stories in Shy's journal. The Tree on My House tells of a mysterious plant that grows into a great and wonderful tree. The Day the Sky Fell recalls events surrounding the lose of one of the mighty cables which form their megadome. Under the Honeycomb Sky has many experiences under the dome and Sky's twelfth birthday party. It tells a little of the children's hope to send Shy's five-year journal back in time, when completed, as a warning for the future. The first story starts on Shy’s tenth birthday. The other two follow each following year. For her twelfth birthday she asks for a diary in which she plans to keep notes of events in her life throughout the year. Shy adds her yearly stories to a five-year journal received for her twelfth birthday. There is a bit of history and scientific jargon in this book. However, it is explained in a manner easy to understand. The relationship Shy has with her grandfather, who is mentioned throughout the book, is a sweet one. The family closeness is one I enjoyed reading. Another thing I enjoyed was the cultural diversity. It can truly appeal to a variety of young people and their parents. It is a good book for developing an active and creative imagination
This book was gifted to me by the author for review purposes.

TREE and SKY: The Secrets of Meshyah’s World a children’s book for grades 3-5, is this Author’s first children’s book and you would not know this by reading it. This novel is Science Fiction/Fantasy and is made up of 3 stories with some history and scientific jargon that the Author explains in a way that any child reading it can understand.
The Author’s imagination and writing style that gives the character’s depth that has you drawn into their world from the very first page. You are taken on a journey with Shy and her friends that start with her tenth birthday and the following two stories on her eleventh and twelfth birthdays. You are not only reading a futuristic children’s novel but you’re learning something while you’re reading it. The stories also tells how to take care of nature, family, friends, neighbors, and how to learn from your elders and how vastly different cultures can come together and live peacefully in villages and take care of each other.
This novel is 5 stars and cannot wait to read the next set of stories the Author has in store for Shy and her friends.

This was such an enjoyable and imaginative book...taking the reader on a journey of sorts with the characters. I def. recommend this for children over around age eight, but I also recommend it for parents!
This is the original single book with three stories. The three stories were published separately, but GR librarians still play with authors' rights so the first story pictured as part of the series is really a pre-school activity book, with the alternate cover being the real first book. The correct one has been deleted from my list of books, but is now no longer available. GR is always wrong about something.
