Mike Falzone makes videos on YouTube. He talks about things you should and shouldn't do in your day to day life. More importantly, he thinks he knows everything. "Honest and funny, in the same vein as Greg Behrendt and Chelsea Handler, this is the bible of good advice that you probably didn't take but really should have". Meghan Tonjes - YouTube Celebrity "Mike's one of the funniest people I've ever met, and I once did a Google Hangout with Richard Dreyfus. Seriously, I've done that." Travis Helwig – @FriendfromHS "Mike Falzone taught me all sorts of stuff about myself. Like the fact that I completely love Mike Falzone. Can any other author tell you that? Absolutely not. Also, I finally learned what 6-year-olds smell like." Jenny Jaffe – College Humor
I was just perusing the DFTBA website when this title took me in. Impulse buying, I'm a victim. In this case, it was a good thing. I found the book to be as cute & clever as the title with witty words of wisdom such as "Complaining followed by a lack of any type of productive action is a always shitty."
This book was made for people who think about thinking. The book contained witty humor about unbelievable on-the-road stories that will leave you laughing out load. Must read!
After watching Mike's videos I was really interested in reading his book. I thought it would have the same tone as his videos. If I knew him personally I might have been able to associate the voice in the book with his voice, but I don't know him personally, I just like watching him walk around his neighbourhood talking shit about the human race. The voice is the book isn't really like the voice of his videos. The tone is the same, but I think the way he phrases things in the book wouldn't translate well to video.
That being said, the book was still great in it's own right. My favourite chapter was "You're not invited to the wedding because you're acting like a tool," and that's probably because that's where I am in life. I hear a lot of people waxing nostalgic for the way things used to be, and yet we're all still drifting apart - and I know the people who are stuck and who resent everyone else for moving the fuck on. It was like he wrote it from my perspective, which goes to show that what we think are the things that are only happening to us are actually universal occurrences.
I think that's what's great about the whole book. It's shit that we all know is true, and if you don't know it's true, you're a pretentious asshole who needs to stop taking himself so seriously. These are universal truths. Kids smell funny, you shouldn't pay attention to the shit you hate but focus on the shit you love, glitter is awesome but also a bitch, don't grow up too fast and miss the awesome world of adolescence happening around you... and learn to laugh about the things that piss you off.
I'm gunna leave it in my bathroom so people can go in there and think they're doing some light reading on the can, while in reality I'm just letting Mike tell them the things I don't have the balls to say, like "SHUT UP! Never stop shutting up!"
I read this in one afternoon which is very doable because it's a collection of short essays and a couple lists. Bought it because I sincerely love Mike's videos and wanted to support him. I had gone through most of his stuff again pretty recently though so a lot of the essays felt like I was rereading transcripts of videos I had seen a couple days prior. Also because it was independently published, there were a few typos and formatting errors. But apart from me being nit-picky, I found myself giggling every couple of pages. Mike's style of writing made the book fly by in a good way. A quick, enjoyable read that made me wish there was more.
I like Falzone, and many things about him. Reading this, I can tell it's entirely him. Because of this I can also send excerpts to my friend and we can add our own commentary, and that's something that makes for a good biography or autobiography in my world.
I've watched Mike Falzone's videos for a while now, and last year I got a chance to meet him at VidCon. That was when I decided I definitely needed to get his book and give it a read. It would take me almost a year to actually buy and read the book, but when I did, I powered through it on my way home from VidCon 2014.
And it is absolutely fantastic!
Falzone has a way of being open and honest while also being sarcastic as hell. Included amongst the essays in this book are little gems that take the form of hilarious lists.
This one definitely gets a special spot on the shelf for easy access, I'll be going back to it quite often. If just so I can read the line "There is no redeeming quality in a person that pressures another human being into sex," as often as possible so I can memorize and repeat it to others.
I really enjoyed Mike Falzone's first novel, Never Stop Shutting Up. I would have loved to give it the full five stars, but I settled for four. This book was a great deal shorter than it should have been (in my opinion, I guess really I just want more Mike Falzone), I noticed quite a few typos (although I'm not sure if that is because he self published and may not have had an editor, however, typos just generally annoy me), and it didn't seem to be the same Mike Falzone as he is in his youtube videos. I suppose I may have been a little disappointed by it, but it's still a great, quick read, and it is very funny. Mike Falzone is a great guy and his youtube videos are always fun to watch. I'm hoping he comes out with a second book soon.
It's not worth reading, spend your money on something written with better intentions and by a writer who attempted to write something worth reading.
It's a cash grab. Don't bother.
Even if you're getting it free it's a bit of a needless waste of time. It's funny how being a fan of someone can excuse their lack of effort or care in their work, so take it from a neutral source, someone who is several years out of being interested in his content, this book is, at best, lazy, and it has not aged well.
There's no real groundbreaking advice in this book, but sometimes being told what you should already know in sarcastic/laugh-inducing overtones can make all the difference! If you are a fan of Mike Falzone's Youtube channel, you will really enjoy this book. It is written like he is talking directly to you, with his personality splashed all over every entry.
I love Mike Falzone. I really do. I love his channel and what he says so I was really excited when I finally got his book yesterday! Although it is really short and he's already made videos on some of the chapters it's still a really good read and if you ever just have even an hour, just give it a go it's refreshing perspective.
I "really like" Mike Falzone but only "like" the book because it's so short. Just doing a quick calculation I think I paid about 15 cents per page. THAT ASIDE, seriously this dude is great. Even in such a short compilation there were several "bits" that capture his mix of wisdom and comedy. Check him out on YouTube for the full effect of his delivery!
It does not live up to his YouTube presence. Though I did gain one or two useful bits of life advice, much of it is rehashing of things he's gone over online, except that you cannot get a feel for his passion on the subjects he writes the way you can in his videos.
love this comedian/ youtube, love this book! Many of the stories told in the book have also been in past videos, but it was still fun to read and there were plenty of new stories as well.
