In a race against time, the Boys dash across London and, with some help from Mary's real father, uncover the murderers and rescue their friend.
Anthony "Tony" Read (born 21 April 1935) was a British script editor, television writer and author. He was principally active in British television from the 1960s to the mid-1980s, although he occasionally contributed to televised productions until 1999. Starting in the 1980s, he launched a second career as a print author, concentrating largely on World War II histories. Since 2004 he regularly wrote prose fiction, mainly in the form of a revival of his popular 1983 television show, The Baker Street Boys.
I accidentally found this book in a second-hand book shop and I bought it. It was two years ago if I recall it.
I read it and it was wonderful. Easy, short, well written This book has a character named "Wiggins" from "The adventure of Sherlock Holmes " Wiggins is a orphan and living with other orphan kids. He is the leader of their group which they call themselves The Baker street boys although three of were girls. Sherlock Holmes calls them Irregulars and sometimes he takes help from them with his cases. But This is not adventure about Sherlock. This adventure is all about Baker Street boys And it happens when Sherlock Holmes is out of London on his mission.
This book was a very nerve-racking case because Mr Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson are not in London which means it is up to the Baker Street Boys to figure out what is happening. In this book one of the characters can hypnotize you and make you forget everything. It seems very scary and creepy when Wiggins (the leader of the Baker Street Boys) hypnotizes Mary because Mary speaks in a weird voice. Overall this was a great book which never makes you want to stop.
I read all of the Baker Street Boys books a couple of years ago but I was excited to find them in ebook at my local library. Although I am a little disappointed I can't find them on Amazon but anyway. So I'm rereading and they're just as great as I remember.
They're lighthearted sweet little mysteries filled with great characters and interesting plots. Wiggins and the gang are hilarious - from Wiggins imitation of Holmes, Gertie's insistence of being one of the boys, Queenie's obsession with the Queen, Shiner's love of trains, Sparrow's love of theatre, Rosie's super nose and Beaver's desire to be the Watson to Wiggin's Holmes. All of the gang actively contribute to the investigations and help to solve the mysteries and it's nice to see each member play a role and demonstrate their own expertise. Not everyone is good at everything - but they're all good at something.
This is the second in the Baker Street Boys books and is just as much fun as the first. The books originally were printed around 2006 (there are a number of them) and appear to have been repackaged for the reissue and ebook release. The series appears now to be striking out on its own having acknowledged its place in the world of Sherlock Holmes - with only minor and cursory references to the afore mentioned detective. As the afterwards states the Baker Street Irregulars only had passing reference in the original Sherlock Holmes adventures and with only minor references to his life (in this book Holmes and Watson are off dealing with a case about a huge hound on the moors) they appear to be creating their own history and events. The books are easy to read and accessible and great fun, they have captured to spirit of the era just as clearly as the original great works.
A short and entertaining read for all mystery lovers! If you enjoyed reading about Sherlock Holmes' adventures, then you would surely enjoy this mini adventure of his assistants, the Baker Street Boys!
Loved the fact that the author used a character with pretensions of intellect and a tendency toward flowery language (which was translated by other characters) to challenge and hopefully expand the vocabulary of its readers.
I liked how the book was linked to Sherlock Holmes. I liked how it was children solving crimes. I did find it slowly start to get interesting when someone dies but that is quite far in the book.
