New World #3

Impenetrable

Rate this book
Kidnapped from dying Earth by the heinous Tonan race, Piper is locked in a small cell, deprived of light and human companionship and tormented on a daily basis. When the door to her hell opens unexpectedly Piper is blinded by the light and walks headlong into a massively built creature. She is tossed over a shoulder, taken on the wildest ride of her life then placed into a healing pool.

Jago is a four-hundred-year-old immortal who has never seen a living breathing female before, but he knows of their existence. Their ship was headed to the planet Earth to see if they could find these rare human gifts when they accidently stumbled onto the Tonan vessel. Desperate to find a mate Jago was thrilled when the little female walked right into his arms as though she was waiting for him. Unfortunately Jago’s leader, Cobra, has asked to impregnate Piper, thinking Jago too young.

Ultimately, the choice is Piper’s. Who will she choose?

Born and raised in Ontario, C. L. Scholey developed her passion for writing through her love of reading books as a child. Her first book was contracted in Oct 2009 the very same month her first grand son was born. C. L. Scholey still lives in Ontario, in a rural community with her husband and daughter.

From the author:
Hello, I'm Connie! Now that we've met how about I tell you a little about me? I love to write, it's like having a super power.

I was born and raised in Ontario...yes I'm Canadian, no I don't live in an igloo, no I've never pet a polar bear, but I have run into a few black bears, seen wolves, moose, coyotes and I think there's a hundred pound squirrel in my attic.

I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.

I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?

Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.

If you want to get to know me better join me on FB or twitter. Right now I need to change back into a mom, it's my best super power.

Self note:

Seriously, Cobra is mated, MATED people! And to offer to get OW pregnant is simply put cheating on his mate. Just juck!

The Cobra thing annoyed me the most. On one hand I understand it. Time is running out, they need to have babies conceived now for them to be female, but on the other hand, it comes off badly and makes Cobra seem like an ass. It'd feel a bit better if it were coming from an older, unmated male that we haven't met yet. But Cobra is mated (for life!), has a new daughter and step-kids now. There was no indication that this was okay with Cobra's mate, either. Perhaps she'd be understanding, it is after all about the survival of their species and they need all the females they can get, but without knowing his mate's view on this, it comes off as (thoughts of) cheating and wrong.

Also, Cobra was going on about how Jago is too young and inexperienced, but he's 400 years old, the same age as Rask and Dasks and their warrior-brother/mate's from books 1 & 2 were when they mated and Cobra had no issue with them mating "so young." So what changed?

Ok, I hate this one. It is bordering on sordid for me to be honest. The h and H are being coerced and the h kept pushing our H away for not too much of a valid reason I can figure out.

The whole you need to get preggo pronto and I don't care by whom thing just turns me off in a big way. Like the h is nothing but a brood mare, and it is fine to have whoever to have sex with her so long as she is with child. The whole supervision thing is another turn off for me. I think this probably is common and supposed to be a turn on for some erotica books, yet everything is not to both parties' wishes, making this very hard to stomach and quite frankly, gross, especially when these two seem to have quite a connection and doesnt need outside interferance. I cannot reconcile a one mate for life race will be so ok about infidelity, to be honest, and based on the premise that the h needs to get preggo by anyone pronto, I cannot help but cringe or read beyond what is written imagining some upcoming scene with sexy times featuring some om whenever one of them is nearby.

I also do not get why the h kept pushing our H away. She essentially admits to being afraid of loneliness, so while she quickly figures out she more or less needs to adapt to and live in this world by having a man, it doesn't make sense for her to not want him mated to her, considering she is doing everything else with him already.

I guess this whole book's premise just isn't my cuppa. I still enjoy learning more of the world and am looking forward to seeing if we can know more about the other race.

....and here is why. I admire Piper's fortitude and her will to survive and I like Jago he is a lovely guy. Although I wish we got a little more in depth with him as I felt we just skimmed his story.

But, Cobra, HUH? What are you doing and why, why, why? You throw me off with your need/desire to mess with others....what about your mate? What happened to mating for life and how does Cobra's lady feel about his desire to have children with other females or for that matter join in on a fantasy??? I mean I know she was not his heart's mate but, still how about a little honor to your commitment, you did take her as yours!

I loved this one which is no surprise since I'm enjoying this whole series.

Something about the Castians is so endearing and I can't get enough. Although Cobra seemed a little insensitive to me. I mean what would his human mate think of his offers to other human females?

The Tonans are so evil, it's hard for me to find any redeeming qualities. Because of them, so many human females have been put through hell.

Jago is a hunk of course and I sense a bit of a kinky side to him. I also think that Piper is more than willing to explore these options...

Another good edition to the New World Series.

This book was as chock full of happenings as the first two were. The Castian’s physiology is ridiculously complex! I don’t understand the support character Cobra’s intentions in this book all that well but it was an interesting plot twist I guess. I think he needs his own book though.

The writing is still very fast paced and so far each book starts out written with time and detail but then somewhere in the middle it just starts rushing through the story. Information is just handed to you. Usually by Cobra. For a species that lives for forever he seems to be the only one ever around with the answers. Cobra is Johnny on the spot! Smdh.

Still I like what this author is selling with these sci fi stories. Adventure, exploration, wishfulness and HEA’s.

I’m off to read book 4. Enjoy.

Let me first say that I have enjoyed this series. Yes, it is a bit weird at times and the writing is not at the level of some Sci-Fi writers but this has been entertaining so far. However, Cobra is a mess! Corba is the creepy uncle that you see during the holidays and people tell you to avoid because there is something amiss with him.

This entire book he spoke about how he is the one that should impregnate not only Piper but the other human women that they rescue. I was ever this story as soon as he said that but in the same breath mentioned that he has a mate which was human. Like she would be okay with him going around making babies with just random women. 😒

He kept putting doubt into Jago's mind, the male MC, that there were times where he thought about allowing Cobra to do just a thing. I was completely shocked that Jago thought he was lacking. Come to find out he was not and Cobra just took a while to figure out what was going on.

They, Castian's, have finally found the person who caused all of their pain within this book. There were some great revelations that occured but they were outshined by Cobra, the creepy uncle.

This is the third book in the New World series and I was really intrigued with the beginning. Piper is kept in a dark cell and tormented by the Tonans before Jago finds and rescues her. Because of where she was found Cobra thinks Jago should let him impregnate Piper because he has more control and experience. Thats not the part I found intriguing. It was her being in a dark cell and tormented. I expected that to make more of an impact on her than it did.

I did not, however like that Cobra was willing to sleep with her. I guess I was under the wrong impression about mates in this series. I thought they were more possessive and hmmm monogamous. But I think feel like the author is introducing ideas to open up possibilities for her next books. And they didn't sit well with me.

I read these because Unearthly World was a shoot off and was recommended. It is better in both story and connection of characters, and way better in narrator. With these, the narration is so bad it is almost not worth reading on some. This one was one that was not worth it. Mostly the characters were carbon cut outs of the ones before and the over all story was not anything new are interesting. The couple has a little chemistry and we learn more about the abilities of Castian warriors The main issue is the explanations drone and take away from our main couple and usually, at least in this story, didn't further the story.

When Piper is kidnapped from dying Earth (weep, weep) by the heinous Tonan race, she's locked in a cell, deprived of light and human companionship and tormented by a Tonan on a daily basis. Jago is a four-hundred-year-old immortal virgin who has never seen a living breathing female before, but he wants her. Then Cobra his leader and already mated has the nerve to ask to impregnate Piper, because it is near their 400 year mating season to get a female child, thinking Jago too young. Yuk, she chooses Jago and surprises everyone with her choice.

once again same plotline but outline was different. we didn't get to hear from older characters from other books but a new heroine and hero instead. the steamy scenes got bolder and the dialogue in chapter 5 had me laughing out loud. we went from a terrible situation with the heroine to her being safe ...and adventurous.
a lot more castian detail came out in this one which you had to pay attention to or you'd miss the connection....still enjoyable to listen to. This author really is a clever witty writer

Most of the series has been a short, fun read but this book had Cobra going against everything that the Castians stand for with mated relationships. Castians mate for life and are protective of their mates. Cobra may be the Castian with the most knowledge but he was a complete a$$ in this book.

Even the voice for Cobra has him sounding like a pompous a$$!

This episode...not so good. Half the book was an info-dump that readers of the previous books certainly didn't need. The Cobra character was extremely unlikeable. And the narration of Cobra was pretty bad.

Creepy Uncle Vibe! Great story and premise, The cheating aspect fell flat for me. Cobra is mated with children and wants to impregnate Piper? She even asks about his mate and he has no answer and no concern for her happiness! Jago and Piper were great but the Cobra interaction was all wrong for me.

Stars: 4

Overall: Piper is aboard a Tolan war ship and she is being abused as others are around her. One day she is rescued and that's when she meets Jago. Their mating goes good, but when they are unable to conceive, Cobra gets worried and tells Piper and Jago that he will do it for them. After a bit of drama from the bad guys and some ass kicking Piper and Jago finally make the magic happen and they get a big surprise that hasn't happened in a long time.

Pros: I love the idea for this story and I loved how the series has progressed, so have the mating bonds between each couple. It seems that each mate has their own special uniqueness about them.

Cons: I'm going to say this again, like I did the other books in the series. I'm really tired of reading about how their women died and what happened after it. I feel that if you have already read the first two books, there is no real need to keep repeating that they have already told you. I also thought it was a little creepy how Corba wanted to mate with Piper, I wanted to tell the guy to back up and give the couple a damn chance.

Characters: Piper & Jago

Impenetrable is the third book of the New World Series.

Piper has been kidnapped from Earth by the Tonans. She has no idea what they want with her, and she's only had interaction with the one who brings her food and water when they deem she needs it. She is locked in a cell in the dark and knows that she may die in the dark cell by those who torture her.

Jago is a young Castian warrior compared to some of the others. He has never seen a female, but knows they exist due to Cobra giving them information on the humans. They stumbled on a Tonan ship that had Earth females aboard and has now found the one female he wants for himself.

Cobra doesn't know if Jago can mate Piper and impregnate her before their window of opportunity closes for producing females. He has offered to impregnate Piper but let Piper and Jago raise the child. But nobody realizes that Piper may have been scared before but she knows she wants Jago, but is fearful he will leave like everyone else in her life if she depends on him too much.

It was an interesting read with problems. My actual rating is between 1 - 2 stars.

1st major problem - How could Mail have tortured the women on a toran ship if he was undercover with the castiens. The timescale seems impossible. Because he had to go to earth, spend time torturing the women, then somehow make it back undercover after escaping the castien raid.

2nd problem - cobra was smelling an unknown scent on piper, which he later realized was the scent of twins. Which is impossible since she did conceive until after he has been smelling her I usual scent for a while.

3rd problem - the wording of a few sentences made it hard to understand the idea the author was trying to relate to the reader.

The only reads on I did not rate it 1 star was that I've rated worse books as 1 star and this book was not that bad.

I like the premise of the book more than I liked the book. Scholey works hard to create an alien world and an alien culture. Unfortunately, there were moments the aliens seemed all too human. Some of the erotic moments were a bit disappointing. This book didn't push any genre envelopes. There is so much explanation that goes on, but doesn't really show us... And I almost thought we were going to get some fourplay but I guess not. I did not read the first two and I'm not familiar with this author. Not sure if I'll read more of these.

This one is probably my favorite out of the whole sires. Now this book does hint at domination and slightly goes towards the edge of control and rape but its not to much in that area.
I think I liked this one so much because at the beginning the female mane character can not see, I relate to this. I think in this book I did actually cry!
I thought also in this book sadly it was a lot to do with her having babies..... that was it, it bugged me a little. I love the protectiveness of the castonians or however you spell their species. Grate book to read!!!

So, Cobra made me so made in this one. He's already mated, so I don't understand why he wanted to try and impregnate Piper. I get that they need females, but I feel like Leah would be beyond pissed! I loved the scene when she finds out she's pregnant. It was hilarious! Overall, pretty good, but it was similar to the last two books. I'm hoping this next one is different since the main character is half Castian and Tonon. It will be interesting. :)
